“Merry Christmas, Keith,” Harry says to him easily, pretentious California arse that he is using ‘Merry’ instead of ‘Happy’, and they eat the desserts in small bites between mindless chatter, fighting over the sorbet with fork tussles and it feels like home, even if he’s seven hours away.

So he’s not exactly an expert on how all of this works, but he’s sure one of the first rules to this should be “don’t get attached.” He’s having a hard time with this though, and he blames Zayn for it, for inviting Harry to have a drink with them last night and then ditching them in the middle of it, because for a moment as he’d made Harry laugh and as Harry asked more questions about Niall’s life, it had felt like some sort of date, and Niall had to tell himself it wasn’t suck. If anything it was solely business—for Harry at least.

When the leaves whisper away across the earth, the pitter-patter feet of the frost cold on their trails, and the sun spirals down until it’s little more than a memory on the horizon... when the stars become commonplace, hovering behind the Arctic winds, and the frost nibbles your fingers and nips your toes, and you ache for summer but you know you can’t think of summer for long. Or else the winter will creep in and snatch you. Here, visitors are few and far between, and you find yourself lonesome, aching for another soul. Wishing you hadn’t done what you’d done to end up here. Knowing you’d do it the same way again, given the chance.

Niall never thought he’d find a way back home. But then, the wind works in mysterious ways.

Half-Way Check In

It has been an absolute pleasure running this exchange so far, and I can’t believe we’re already at the half-way point! This post is just going to go over a few reminders, so please read this post all the way through before you scroll past to remind yourselves of some things:

Any and ALL fics are due no later than 11:59pm (EST) on January 10th, 2016. If you are afraid you cannot finish your fic in that time, please let us know/ask for help so that everyone is given the gift the signed up to receive. 

You are not to discuss your fic with anyone, especially if you know that they are also participating in this year’s exchange. This is supposed to be anonymous, and you’ll ruin someone’s surprise that way.

Since we did exchange the date to January 10th, fics are not required to be centered around the Christmas holiday. As long as it’s Winter themed and within the parameters of the prompt you have chosen to write, your fic will be accepted under the exchanges namesake.

We DO have betas available to those of you who are stuck in your writing/need one. The list of those that completed the final interest survey and their contact information can be found here. !! If you have found no one that fits your needs or that has been able to help you, please contact us through our q&a tab or the exchanges email(which is listed on the AO3 page) !!

There are only THREE (3) Days Left!

Authors, you’re starting to run out of time! We are still looking for Eight (8) gifts to be posted to the exchange page on Ao3. Please refer to THIS POST and read it thoroughly, if you haven’t already.

In case any of you are unsure how to submit your gift, and that’s what is preventing you from posting, please follow these steps.

Log-in to your Archive account. None of the options listed below will be available to you if you are not logged-in.

Follow this link to our Ao3 page

On the top, right hand side there’s a header stating the Collection’s name. Directly beneath that are multiple options to click on that take you to different parts of the exchange. Find ‘Post to Exchange’, and click on it.

Fill out the ‘New Works’ page in order as normal. If you haven’t done this before, just read and follow all directions as you scroll down the page. 

When you get to the body (Work Text), unless you’ve written your fic in HTML code, change the style to ‘Rich Text’ so that when you paste your fic from your word document (if that’s how you originally wrote it), the spacing doesn’t mess up and it looks the same as when you originally wrote it.

Once you’ve filled everything in, PREVIEW your fic before you post it. This way you can make sure your tags are correct, your gift shows up as “For _____” in the notes, and that the body of your fic looks the way you originally wrote it and want it to look.

If everything is in order and looks how you want it to, just press post. We will be notified of your submission, and will accept your gifted fic as quickly as we can.
