My experience of the WOII module

The Positive:

Whatever I had learnt make me curious about this study module of Art because Art has a a lot of sub categories that branches out even more of this disciplinary. For example, there is Design History and Art Criticism that preaches Graphic design and other form of art studies that I have yet to explore.

So this lesson does encourages me to seek out and read more so I can implement my knowledge and reflection so I can go deep in-depth to my writing in the future.

This can also helps me not only in Graphic Design but also in Journalism because this study give the student critical thinking skills and writing skills to help formulated their though process into actionable ideas.

The Negative:

Although the teaching was useful to provide miscellaneous lessons to the viewers, I felt that more could be improve by handling out useful notes about the teaching of the subjects.

For example, teachers could give us brief and easy description and give us even more references/sources to read more about the particular topics and why these topics are important to the students in the future.

Teachers could also trains us to write well by providing us some useful phrases or descriptive words for these academic writings.

This definition is where a group of individuals with shared beliefs of organising arts by publicly displaying artworks with numerous of other artists into a form of community.

This practice rekindling similiar interests and help artists to introduced themselves to others for social networking or building relationships.

In one of the exhibitions, I choose this as my favourite designs.

While looking at the display, how I feel about the impacts of the design communication and discipline experiences of itself is that the design of the icon/logos is stylish and fresh.

The colour palette has a warm and inviting feeling that demonstrated the flaming sensation of the taste.

The font is curvy and bold and which give a cute, casual and loud representation of the branding thats center itself of spiciness and encouraging some young viewers to try one of their products which will delighted or make them feel the passionate taste of the product.

Hence, this design stand out to me because it is excellent at telling the viewers what the product will achieved when they try it.

As a student, one specific area in which that I wish to make an impact as a designer is to always considered human centered approach design for audiences and having deep analysis and researchs to justify what your products will help or benefits them rather than the aesthetics and visual appeal of the design.

For example, always considered your user needs in mind such as understanding or researching how the products help it users, the justifications for its existence and how the products markets towards itself without the dosage of words with great usage of tones, colours in branding.

In this manner, we earned our user respect and commitment. Thus, they will served us as a lifelong partners and confidants.

Postmodernism

Postmodernism in my definition is the rejection of stereotypical culture that shaped society with the disciplining of abstract thinking, rebelling the thought processes between race and gender by expressing with the emergence of feminist art and minority art and other source of art movement.

Example,

The way the colour works is complementary with one another and the subjects are in harmony and unity. Creating that humankind are fallen to the political side of war thats happening and they are troubled/hurt as a soldier or a victim that fallen to the pandemic. By depicting in that period, It communicates the idea that the war has a destructive side and affects human physically and mentally.Thus,it is modernism because it speaks about the depth of the subject,the purpose and reason for this creation.

The artwork depicts miscellaneous races raising their fist in unison, this gestures could means a sense of rebellion or protest from their minority demographics. The art style has a blocky and colourful colour palette which represents the group standing up the to by making a bold moves or messages to the ones that discrimmate them.

To demonstrate what I learn so far,I refers to the sheet that teachers given us that describes the keywords of today lessons.

By implementing in my work, I use my knowledge of postmodernism the subjects what I learnt.

My description of this artworks is it depicts a home scape with a whimsical and random images to form a broken side of the fictional artwork.

The subject depict the chaos surrounding itself and have imperfection and incompletion since it mixed different sources which speak about diversity.

It is also Pluralism in a way many subjects co-exist yet viewer still can retains their individuality that the objects cannot linked to the real world but still provide creativity and surreality to the design.

I fragmentate the whale to resonate how irrationality and adding playfulness with the font around it and reinvent the chaotic side and complexity to this final design.

Cultural Materialism

Cultural materialism is an humanised approach that aims to comprehend culture and society through the study of material conditions and economic structures influencing them.

For example, economic structures are educational systems,it was proposes globally so that citizens can transmission of knowledge, skills, values, etc from existing generations to the next in the future.

In learning knowledge Through literature, history, art, music, and language, individuals learn about their or foreign heritages through history, learning how the cultures and beliefs shaped up themselves or countries. Thus, this system build up the structure in today education systems.

This lesson is also similar to what I implemented in studio lecture.

In one of my studio work, I have constructed a website portfolio for my trading cards.

In my design references, I choose a contemporary and miminalistic approach that help viewer to easy understand the navigation process.

Infrastructure- User was lead to the home page first. Then, their eyes guided to the bottom of the arrow icons which displays navigation and they can exit = whenver they want.

Structure - The website was read from left to right and the gallery is dynamic once user hovered on it. Superstructure - The website was designed in Wix and has a basic but effective way of formatting the work in the gallery. Technological realities- The website is interactive where the animation designed like a stack of folder and the icons are panned in slow easing motion. Material realities- The website is clean and well presentable. Giving off the formalities side but also with the inventiveness of the artwork design.
