blinks beautifully. you should tell me about tashiro and ogasawara thoughts ^_^ ive been thinking about them a little lately. sweet senpai-kouhai thing going on...

ok so sunnfish this is like. really funny you say that. bc what I find kind of interesting abt tashiro and ogasawara is like. they don’t talk to each other. like. they have a senpai-kouhai thing going on in the legal definition of the word only to me. my thoughts r mostly based off of the like… voice messages that were part of the graduation movie? tashiro’s voice message is like. he says one thing to each senpai (sasaki, hirano, ogasawara) and then spends half of the message on hanzawa. bc they’re weird about each other. I think what he tells ogasawara is nice, but not particularly close—he had fun w/ that pizza party (dvd extra 3) and it’d be cool to visit an amusement park with him (which! excitingly does end up happening in canon). ogasawara gets kind of cutely emotional bc Tashiro always made an effort to say hi and talk to him… what a great kouhai! and frankly this is nice but I think this is just bc tashiro’s That Kinda Guy. we saw him so energetically high five sasaki last volume. he’s just like that.

so I don’t necessarily have a lot of thoughts on their interactions bc I think they Don’t Interact. that’s actually super fun for me though. firstly I think it emphasizes ogasawara’s sort of… isolation, as a character. I genuinely and truly think it’s neat that he’s super close with sasaki and not really that close with anyone else. like maybe he & hanzawa know a bit of each other but that’s it. so I think that tashiro and ogasawara would have this very easy like… mutual appreciation for each other. they might not ever get super close unless some big events happen, but they’re operating off of a pretty positive, if non-specific impression.

now as for what would make such a thing happen…  lots of fun ideas. what if ogasawara visited the high school for their cultural festival? just out of some lingering fondness. and in my “tashiro crossdresses” timeline he’d see hanzawa doing tashiro’s makeup and squawk indignantly about tashiro’s honor. that’s what I think. like, he’d intervene out of a sense of wanting to be a senpai, despite the lack of any legitimate connection. and tashiro would roll with the punches because that’s the kind of accepting guy he is. if hanzawa’s older brother is actually dating ogasawara’s older brother, there’s a really fun sequence of events where tashiro & ogasawara don’t meet for a long time, until they do (due to hanzawa relatedness) and ogasawara’s just immediately on his side. I just think he got attached without meaning to… not in a way where they’d necessarily make the effort to stay super close post-graduation, but like. if they’re right in front of each other. why the hell not.

like I guess if I have to pin in down short form. prev prez -> tashiro = He sees something in you. in his sights from the start. a genius worthy of being in his inner circle.

and tashiro -> prev prez = an insurmountable wall; a high wall to scale. walk into club—rabbit, meet fox. It’s because I want to win. I want to beat him.

and prev prez -> masato = bearer of world’s gravity, inheritor of legacy. the next president. the next guy to pass you off to. speculatively: someone who’s seen a lot of you. speculatively: someone you might never show yourself to again.

and vice versa masato -> prev prez = someone who can shoulder responsibility without so much as a buckled knee. all the earth’s mass pressed into the world’s most loaded Yes, sir.

and of course tashiro -> masato = the next guy to be passed off to. Man, he sounds so cool saying that. Have a warm drink and put your feet up. run until you can’t anymore. run until you get your bearings. run after him. fast guy, that guy.

and of course masato -> tashiro = I hear great things about you all the time. [GUNSHOT] You’re the person I’m trusting in the most. [GUNSHOT] Not that I ever had any doubts about it. [GUNSHOT] did you know that the people you look out at can themselves look in? fucked up, isn’t it?

Love & Passion already this much. AND shirahama is there. god damn it. you notice how those got kinda longer. I’m sure that means nothing.

ask game Wow shirahama how come you get TWO miscommunications in one fic . title or whatever it was specifically. :]

HAHA OH NOOO. well more like oh yes but oh no for shirahama. this is what I like to call the "shirahama interlude" and I have one snippet from my outline for you that sums up the entire plot

i would say I feel sorry for him but I really don't. I need to keep putting this boy in situations.

okay for real though, this is the shirahama fic for my lovely riverbed au which I care for like my own thousands of words long child. very dear to me.

the basic idea of this fic is that in a world where sasaki never met miyano (at least not when he did in canon), shirahama for some reason Keeps meeting miyano. over and over again. not that miyano realizes this, since they meet randomly at very spaced out points in time.

the miscommunications mentioned in the doc name are very miserable times for everyone, one taking place before graduation and the other after it. shirahama will be the one to let both of these miscommunications go without trying to fix them. this is good for me and bad for him because I love a long game.

something to note here, shirahama and miyano become friends in a similar way to canon sasamiya becoming friends. except they're so much more embarrassing about it (in their own opinions) because the effects of two different but similar kinds of nerds becoming closer friends due to their interests meshing well can be catastrophic for their very repressed minds.

as in "devastating: the one person that gets me is making me question myself". and of course being romance lovers they both have their fair share of trope knowledge that logically should save them from miscommunication (<-it makes it 10x worse). surely the consequences of their actions won't lead to more problems. Definitely.

this fic is also the one that I had fun leaving little easter eggs in the other parts of the series for too. icey incidents had one, not sure if anyone spotted it though since it was a small moment and I doubt anyone would've thought to look out for it haha.

being the shirahama interlude, it's also the mid point of the series (at least as of now), so it really pulls tight on all the different plot threads left from the stories before it.

with a more meta angle, this fic made me draw on the different feelings that can come from growing up ignoring a truth deep inside of you. one you've grown comfortable letting ache and dig into the darkest corners of yourself in hopes that you'll be able to forget about it completely. but one day you grow too much, there isn't anywhere left to hide. one day you're all long limbs and silver hair shading your eyes, and you're forced to stand in the light.

why am i linking a month old ask game. well bc i took a month to answer. lol.

16: What do you struggle with most when writing?

shit. everything? uhhh but recently i think descriptions have been a big pain point for me. i’ve recently been outlining stuff a bit more in a sense of bullet pointing my way through and then expanding each part into writing, but I feel like while it means my actions and dialogue are connected well and like, the piece is working effectively, I don’t always manage to hit the stylistic flourishes or descriptions I want of these things, because for obvious reasons that’s not baked into the bullet points. I’ll have to figure out how to improve…

25: Are there any moments in [see the light] that feel "blurry" to you? Is this a stylistic choice, or would you go back and clarify the descriptions if you were given the chance?

well i mean. Yeah. the fic is about seeing. shirahama’s always fucking lying about his vision in that fic. see this:

He can’t see that clearly, but Tashiro’s lips are pink. Success, Shirahama thinks dimly, the alcohol blurring his vision and mind to a gossamer lightness. He caps the drugstore lipstick.  […] As he looms above him, he can feel Tashiro’s leg hair absently scratching against his own shin. His vision hasn’t faded in the slightest—the low lights and alcohol and even his own shadow can’t obscure the curves of muscle on Tashiro’s arm, the way his Adam’s apple moves as he breathes, in and out, splayed before him like it’s so easy.

liarrrrr. tbh though even though that’s a theme, I feel like the descriptions aren’t actually that blurry themselves…? like shirahama is looking and observing pretty clearly. I guess time passes pretty fast in maybe a blurry way, but that was intentional. because I didn’t want to write too much. so I wouldn’t really clarify any descriptions… if I could go back, I’d maybe wanna annotate everything to see how intentional my descriptions are, and refine them a bit. maybe work on some pacing. but overall I’m satisfied with it.

hiii sunnfish. I would love to ask abt ur thoughts on tashiro’s popularity / friendliness? what with harusono’s recent tweet abt that + his fast friendship with akikawa

HI KIRI heheheh this ones fun…. hes literally a popular guy. hes cute hes fun hes approachable hes everybodys friend. harusono word of god said he would be second to KAGIURA AKIRA in popularity in a coed school. thats insane. kagiuras like. ikemen. hot guy. but tashiros got enough charm to outperform every other hot guy that would be there. hello. but hes like. literally just Friendly. but he also gets really nervous around girls which is really funny. (see: he goes to mixers with shirahama and gets so nervous he forgets what happened). but i feel like. he'd only get nervous in explicitly romantic situations. so he's able to be like Normal towards girls at school. and thats what makes him so charming. anyways.

i wanna circle back to what i mentioned in my previous ask post. about how Tashiro is Friends With Everybody. but nobody is really close with him. fun fact i had an old pokemon fanfic with a main character with this exact trait. im obsessed with it. and i'll probably also talk about it even more in my Tashiro loneliness ask WHICH I DID GET !! yay me. anyways. Tashiro Is Friends With Everybody. he asks how everyone is doing but nobody asks him. type thing. really good at solving other people's problems and doing little things for other people (noticing their favorite drinks, songs, colors, people, etc). but he doesn't really. share anything about himself. and nobody thinks to ask. cause he seems like his heart is always on his sleeve. think i'll save the rest of this rant for the loneliness post. cause i'll lose the plot if i keep going here.

as for his friendship with akikawa…. i think it's really really really cute. and if im crazy enough i could ship them (<-voice of a guy who is crazy enough for that). but we won't get into that. their fast friendship is so like. Of Course? like. i can't imagine a situation where he wouldn't chat up his friend's other friend. but then, as we see in the latest chapter, he's again always doing little things for other people. taking reference pictures for akikawa. he sure likes to think of himself as a lazy avoider guy but he sure does a lot for other people. odd jobs kinda guy. literally at a quite smart school kinda guy. he likes doing things for people. like when he realizes that being club president would be a huge help to hanzawa. anyways. thats not the point. the point is he's a really really good friend. to literally anybody. god forbid he leave anybody out. oohh this will lead so well into the shirashiro ask i have next ehehehe Evil Grin. okay Peace and love on planet tashiro
