A thought I just had - when Santra tells off Max and Brax for calling Mischa and Jessa - is it actually trackable? We know that there is no internet in Stratford (and the same can be assumed for elsewhere) because the wards block signals. Given that the four are essentially supernatural police I kind of doubt that they would care about the human world and it's inventions (e.g. mobile phone calls) - especially when you think about how they act in the human world. So like, do they even know about phone calls and how to track them?

My theory is that Santra is just saying that to make Jessa and Mischa feel more scared and alone (and so more easy to manipulate into joining them) + make them resent the government even more (for taking their ability to talk to their friends away)

If the Umbrella Academy writers wrote season 5 of Stranger Things

Lucas is given the magical power to resurrect Max. She wakes up episode 1 and her being dead has no impact on her character development.

The Russians? What Russians? Oh, there was a US-Russia war that took care of that off screen.

Dustin becomes a comic relief character with no depth. Suzie is mentioned once offhandedly in episode 2 as having vaguely ended their relationship. No elaboration.

Will can fly now.

The kids discover they can defeat Vecna with the power of holding hands.

A third parallel universe called the Sideways-Over is introduced, used as a plot device once, then the show ends with no explanation or real relevancy.

Will has a tearful gay confession then he is sucked into super hell and Mike abandons him to go to homophobic heaven because God wants him to be his Special Angel - wait sorry that's Supernatural AND Good Omens.

Robin's role is written down to Steve's sidekick, Vicky is never mentioned, and she has no development or interactions with any one but Steve.

Mike finally gets with Eleven/Will. Then there's a time skip where he cheats on them with Steve. It's okay, we time skipped so its legal now. Why are you booing? They got trapped in the upside-down for four years, of course they'd fall in love.

HISTORY AND PAST

astraea was born into a long line of vampire royalty. she was born with a human and vampire parent. this made her an outcast from both worlds, as vampires saw her human side as a weakness, while humans feared her supernatural abilities.

astraea leaves her isolated home and travels to Decelis Academy. she enters the school under a false identity, trying to keep her powers hidden.

POWERS AND ABILITIES

astraea can harness and control moonlight, allowing her to create beams of intense light or soft, soothing glows.

she has the power to manipulate shadows, bending them to her will. she can use shadows to create illusions and cloak herself in darkness.

the moon acts as a guide for astraea, providing her with visions

astraea was born on a full moon night, an event considered to be of great mystical significance in the world of dark moon.

astarea’s birth during a full moon could be linked to an ancient prophecy foretelling the rise of a moon-child with the power to either save or doom the supernatural world

some say that sooha and astraea is related. they say that sooha and astarea are prophetic twins, born under similar celestial conditions or destined to fulfill a shared prophecy.

seraphina (sooyoung) are polar oppsoites, seraphina related to the sun while astraea related to the moon.

OK, I was going to reblog this excellent post by @luckshiptoshore so go read it, because yes. Yes!! YES!!! But then when I got started my post got super long and I felt bad tacking it onto her post and decided to make my own in response to these tags:

Gurl, me too! Like go back to the start! By the time Supernatural began, the backlash against the Joseph Campbell Monomyth-style mode of storytelling had already begun in the hallowed halls of USC film school, and yo: I was there at the time of Kripke's graduation, and my best friends from college are full scale big giant time filmmakers now, whose names I will not share on main because it's uncool, and I don't want that attention, but... yeah. I am referencing FIRST HAND SOURCES on this.

But, for a real source? The Oxford English Dictionary places the first use of the term "Queer Theory" in 1990, with Queer Studies as an option in the academy by 1992. I know the kids think it's a new-fangled thing, but Kripke graduated USC in 1996 (I graduated in 1995) and it was ALL THE RAGE by then. My friends read queer theory in their Critical Studies courses in the Film School, I read it in the College of Humanities getting my degree in Literature. By that time, you could not get through that school with any degree in any non-STEM subject without knowing about ye olde postmodern lenses, queer and feminist theory, and without knowing how to employ those lenses.

Queer refers to sexuality, yes, but the word's earliest use (again, according to the OED) is in the 1500's, meaning: strange, odd, peculiar, eccentric. Also: of questionable character; suspicious, dubious.

So, ok, in 2005, Enter Supernatural, episode 1:

Presented? Two brothers. One actively seeking credit in the straight world that is not available to him in the bosom of his family: Stanford, law school, hot co-ed girlfriend, the other bound to his fractured, wounded family by duty, yes, but also by love, living on the fringe, alone, fighting monsters, and chasing after his father's approval, and who has long since given up any dream of being 'normal'. Episode 1 presents Sam's call to adventure, which he refuses when it's just familial duty, honor and love calling him, but accepts when the show takes a very straightforward and very telling path by classically fridging his woman. Ok, now he's on board. Like John, whose motivation is another dead woman, his motivation is revenge. So far so straight!

Dean though: he's different. He is already on the adventure and he was not 'called' or given the option of accepting or refusing because he had no agency when his feet were set upon this road. He does not fit the straight world at all, because he is cobbled together out of love, duty, deep guilt, striving, desperation and fear. This is who he is now, in some elemental, incontrovertible way. It was not a choice for him, he was born to it. His mother is dead, and we later learn, she made the choices that brought them all to this fate. Dean remembers her idyllically, but he is not motivated by revenge, more than any other thing, he wants to be worthy. He wants his father's approval, his brother's love.

Enter Supernatural's main theme: fucked up relationships between men enmeshed in patriarchy, which will eventually expand to include fucking GOD HIMSELF.

And like, there are SO MANY CLEAR STEPS ALONG THE ROAD in season one, and I am not even talking about sexuality and gender here, but there is SO MUCH TO SAY about it in season 1. But I am not talking about that -- I am talking at a structural, narrative level, the whole thing is just fucking all the way queered, yo.

The big climax?

At the end of the season, Dean says: "I just want my family back together. You, me, Dad... it's all I have." He is Sam's mother, John's partner! His vulnerability and emotion is feminized and contrasted with Sam and John's more overtly driven by their more masculine/straight heroic revenge quest. John: "Sam and I can get pretty obsessed, but you always take care of this family." Only that's not John talking, it's Azazel, and Dean knows it is because his father would never forgive how soft he is, how he will always choose love and family over revenge. Then, in the end, the show makes a huge point of telegraphing that Sam is finally aligning with Dean by refusing to shoot Azazel because he's possessing John, and Sam just can't do that to Dean.

Sam and Dean are thus bound together and cemented into a marginalised path, living on the road, haunting liminal spaces and cheap motels, confronting the monstrous everyday. Sam is presented as the brains of the operation, he does research, logics his way through things (masculine) while Dean is the heart who acts impulsively and on instinct and intuition (feminine).

It later transpires that Sam has a piece of the monster inside himself, and Dean has to learn to love the monstrous, he has no choice, because Sam is his brother and then Cas... and, and, and!

Like... I could go on and on, citing ENDLESS EXAMPLES. This could be a literal book. Maybe one you need to read with a magnifying glass like my condensed edition of the OED. LIke, the queerness of Supernatural is DIZZYING and MYRIAD.

But basically? FROM THE START, hunting is a queered version of family, and within that, Dean is a queered version of a Campbellian hero. Hunting is a metaphor for otherness and liminality, and that's even before you say a WORD about sex. It starts in deviation from the norms of family, masculinity and expands from there on so many levels both in story and on a meta level. The story is flesh on queer fucking bones.

I'm so sorry, but anyone who thinks queerness was not BAKED INTO Supernatural and more specifically into Dean from DAY 1 has clearly never seen Dean's insane lip gloss in season 1, and vastly underestimates the cultural awareness of people who write shit in Hollywood, and also the other people who put pink lip gloss on pretty boys in Hollywood. Nothing that gets on your screen wasn't a fucking choice made and approved by a LONG LIST of people who know what they are about.

Eito. Oh, Eito. Born a hater. Forever cursed (or... blessed?) to see the world filled with creatures ignorantly ripping apart the planet that gave them life. They're all just rabid animals, biting and scratching at anything that moves. Senselessly bleeding the Earth dry of its resources. The most horrific of apex predators. Someone has to be at the top of the food chain to end all the needless suffering. Eito vowed to devour them all. He will stoop to their level of depravity to exact his punishment, but raise himself high above it all the same. He is just a cruel reflection of what humanity has wrought upon themselves.

Eito is the embodiment of merciless Death--the embodiment of War.

If his plans succeeded, nothing would remain standing other than him and the dying Earth. He would finally be one with Mother Nature, its last resort come to pass. Perhaps she wasn't even aware of his presence. Just another spider in the corner of the room. But while the Earth grew silent, Eito would always be there. Waiting. Savoring. A lone god. A moon forever caught in Earth's gravitational pull. Revolving. Fading. His purpose fulfilled. War is over.

I think touching grass would fix him he really just needs to not be locked up in a hospital for so many years. Let him run free in the woods.

Eito is very cartoonishly evil in presentation but I cannot deny he earned it (and ngl there are times where I've conjured a thought of hating humanity too because of how people treat each other we've all been there) through careful manipulation n sneakiness despite his fumbles here n there. Like bro got lost n almost gave up after disposing of Sirei. What a dork. Or who knows maybe he hid that he bet on Takumi going out to find him so he could be brought back to the academy and let their trust in him deepen further. He's just some guy who ascended through holier-than-thou hatred. Nobody does it like him.

Believe me I will also be writing a separate post about how the flaming ghost foils Eito by representing the genuine feelings Eito faked (or... denied?) for the other students and how they very well could be Life vs. Death if you squint hard enough with such little information about the flaming ghost. I'm trying my hardest out here I NEED TO KNOW MORE.

What a cliffhanger to end the first ending on, too! Looks like all's not well on the Artificial Satellite, just as I presumed. So many mysteries left to solve! Listen there's been no talk of the real moon anywhere which means my top secret Moon God Eito theory is still on the table!

Dakota forgets about all the accumulated unpleasant memories. While they were gathering around her like clouds for several years, the suddenly appeared person became a sunshine for her. But suddenly, during an evening walk, she sees something indescribably nightmarish... But what did Dakota see at the end? I think we had a really funny callback in this episode because do you remember how Miae used to be the outcast in the class and she had to work hard to befriend the other kids? Now, we have Jisu as the fresh outcast and it's Honggyu again who openly voices his dislike towards him. Like, I'm always talking about paralles in the story and how Jisu parallels Miae so much, from his dynamic with Miae that is similar to the relationship between Miae&Cheol, to how other characters treat him.

The title of the story is about the academy and the last year of the century. So it makes sense Jisu's arrival to the academy marks the start of the ending of the series because this is the point where all the narratives come together. I've also mentioned this before, but aslfua seems to be a collection of parallel stories that intersect right now, one was happening in the background without the main characters knowing about it - that's Jisu's story-, and the other is the obvious one with Cheol and Miae. Author Soonkki likes playing around with perspectives, so it's common that seemingly unrelated occurances start to have meaning later on.

We actually know quite a few things:

the story is in its last stage

the title clearly references 1999 as the end of the century so the series has a limited timeframe

the narrator has pointed out how the academy kids don't have much time left together so they should get along

Jisu joined the class temporarily with the excuse of taking the mock test

the academy is not only a symbol for the whole story, but also one of the most important locations where Miae and Cheol started interacting without pretenses. Knowing this, Jisu's arrival could be the start of the core of the story, no wonder the supernatural power is becoming more aggressive. I guess this is where Soonkki's meticulous foreshadowing elements will come into play and where her writing skills can shine the most.

I didn't want to see a rift between the kids this far into the story and I've been vocal about how I don't like Jisu being used in the jealousy storyline. And I'm also not a fan of how Miae feels bad when she feels comfortable around Jisu and when people act like she's doing something wrong by being friends with him. I guess this is my biggest complaint in this episode as well, like give Cheol more scenes that are not about him being jealous! Let teenagers interact with each other without having to feel guilty about it! (hopefully this will be addressed)

Also, Jisu's possible neurodivergent behaviour is just shining through, it's actually funny. He's like 'I'm having fun -.-' with a straight face and 'I was bored so I solved all the problems' lol If he's yawning because of autistic fatigue caused by sensory overload and prolonged social interactions, it makes sense that he's doing it more excessively at the academy where he's surrounded by strangers. When I went back to the episodes where he was alone with Miae, he clearly didn't yawn as much so this theory seems to make sense.

Hey! I noticed that in Supernatural Academy, every time someone opens the door to the hub they put one hand behind their back and use their arm to gesture for everyone else to enter. If they enter, they enter last but they will do the arm thing even if they are not entering the hub, just opening the door for someone else.

This happens every time regardless of their relationship with the other characters (sisters, friends, bickering, whtv)

I'm convinced this is supernatural etiquette

Theory about the shinigami under, I dont remember where exactly it was that they explained how a shinigami becomes shinigami, so maybe spoilers below?

The reapers end up reaping themselves.

Those words struck to me and I think I can see this being a thought that might be onto something.

Lets start with conditions of what the reapers are, what they do, the hows and the why.

There are some headquarters. Where? We dont know. But we do know they carry small notebooks with files of the souls to reap, that most likely are handed out by them. The contents have their names, reason of death, date. And sometimes they talk about the "to be dead" as "ah this will be a famous author" or they might recognise them as an important figure. Why do they know that? Is it something intrinsic to the powers of the shinigami? Is it something they learn at the academy? But I think its neither.

They lived as humans right? So if someone was important enough for them to remember, it might ring a bell for them when looking at them or reading their names.

Its not that they read the future, but rather, they know it as one might remember the past, a past that maybe they lived through, maybe read the books of that famous novelist that died early.

There are two options: the shinigami are kinda like doctor who that jumps through time or the shinigami are brought into an era in wich they are to be reapers until a certain point. I find it more likely to be the second, because they the seem invested on the linearity of that period.

And given that we on kuroshitsuji like the whole melodramatic vibe, what would be more dramatic that being "punished to witness your own death and end your punishment by reaping yourself, full circle".

That could explain why they speak about the events or technological advancement as facts.

" humans have yet to develop this fully..." and seem to know more, are aware of the time period historically, use "futuristic" tech as scythes like ronald with his landmower, grelle with her chainsaw. They were humans too, and yes, they were on the "academy" for a certain time, but how techy is the academy really?

And even if it was techy, the reapers themselves do stand out like out of their time, like they really arent from the time period at all, they dont refer to technology as something grand, but rather as a given, like someone that grew into it instead of later in life.

They remember important people not as something they plainly memorized on the academy, instead they know about them, like someone that might have read for class a book or know them as important figures of history that created or changed something, lived through it, interacted with their creations, not meticulously for the job but as someone that was culturally impacted by it.

Thats why it could only be something like a rogue shinigami that could tamper with technological advancement, maybe a reaper that was a doctor or a nurse, for example, when they were alive could be quite problematic, because they recall their knowloadge and training. Was undertaker some kind of healthcare worker? Othello seems like a scientist right from present day doing lab work. Also undertaker obviously knew what idols are, to the whole concept. Sebastian does too. I doubt ciel, even if he had the initial ideal, came with the whole concept of bad cool boy and cute devilish (even if he himself is kinda that whole vibe). Well, it makes sence to me that sebastian could be summoned into any time period, as he is kinda not of that world at all no?

Thats why when we see something too techy we know its the works of undertaker or a supernatural.

On the hotel seb and ciel entered on the last chapters, things are straight out of our present, the tap water, the suites, the amusement park... its copied from our present, there is no innovation or re-imagined things here, as in right from memory.

How to Become an Astronaut

Hey! So... with this all this alternate timeline business cropping up in the manga... I've been thinking.

...What exactly would it take for Amane to become an astronaut?

No, I don't mean what it takes to join the national space program. I mean, why did he become a teacher and not an astronaut?

The simple answer is that it's hard as hell. But that's boring, and this is a piece of fiction, so screw that! No, no, there has to be some deeper reason. And examining this new timeline we're in and the various theories surrounding it, I've been thinking...

Maybe he's missing something?

For some reason, in the new timeline, Amane is a teacher. Instead of killing his brother and himself, he lived on to become a teacher, just like his book in the Bookstacks said. That said, we still don't know what changed in this timeline for this to happen. But we have some ideas.

Tsukasa seems to have been eradicated from this timeline, for one. How that was done, we don't know. But the Clock Keepers saw him as a threat and did something to get rid of him. My current theory is they helped Amane fix the Big Clock and Amane did something to Tsukasa himself, but that's unconfirmed for now.

So Tsukasa is gone. That said, there exists a "Tsukasa-kun", who appears to be the entity that was inside of Tsukasa. It could also potentially be Tsukasa himself, or a part of Tsukasa is mixed in with the entity, but I digress...

Anyway.

Did you know? Amane is supposed to be DEAD!

Tsukasa gave up his life for Amane in the original timeline so that Amane could live and grow into an adult. Tsukasa was happy just making his brother happy, and was content to live the rest of his life in the Red House if it meant Amane could achieve his dreams.

But then Kou revealed that Amane killed his "fake" brother and himself at the age of 13, a rash attempt to convince Tsukasa that Amane wasn't actually happy without him. This caused Tsukasa to realize he didn't know Amane as well as he thought he did and, so overcome with the urge to learn more about him, he went back to his brother excited to be killed by him.

Now, the issue here...is not only that this leads to a murder suicide, but that Tsukasa and Amane were never supposed to grow up together at all. No, what should have happened was that Amane died and Tsukasa lived. This whole situation was doomed from the start. For them to live together at all is wholly unnatural.

Just like Nene and Amane.

My idea is that, if Tsukasa stuck to his plan to stay in the Red House, Amane would have lived to become a teacher. And in the case that Amane ever grew up with Tsukasa, without any supernatural elements at all, then he could have become an astronaut. And I believe this applies to Nene as well.

I think Amane needs either Nene or Tsukasa to become an astronaut, and he had neither.

On that note, I want to call attention to the fact that the Tsukasa-kun rumor in the new timeline spreads through Kamome Academy. Perhaps Tsukasa, properly sacrificed this time in order to give Amane a functioning heart, manifested in Kamome Academy somehow. Whether this is actually Tsukasa or just some hollow imitation is another question, but if Amane learned of the rumor, this easily could have lead him to start working there as a teacher.

Instead of, y'know, doing something else. Like becoming an astronaut, for example.

You can also apply this to Nene. He might've applied to Kamome Academy precisely so he could meet with Nene-oneesan again. I mean, who knows!!

Anyway, I'm aware this is a bit hard to agree with since Amane's book in the Bookstacks was from the original timeline--with Tsukasa!--and it said he became a teacher anyway, but considering the book was wrong and Amane ended up killing himself I think it's safe to disregard it. We have no idea how much of the book Tsuchigomori read, after all. It's possible Tsuchigomori only read segments and didn't have the full picture. We have no way to corrobate the events of the book with what actually happened in the series.

But to get to the heart of my point, I want to direct your attention to Nene and Tsukasa:

They are, by far, Amane's biggest supporters. They both care so much about him and want the best for him. They believe in him and his dreams when no one else does.

^ He didn't, but Tsukasa believed him!!

^ She's doodling him as an astronaut in her notebook!!

It's not hard to imagine one or both of them are the missing key, is it?

Now all he needs to do is get those grades up and bulk up some. We believe in you, Amane!!

I HAVE TO SCREAM ABOUT IT NOW: what if Eden isn't as innocent a school as it tries to present itself? What if, by becoming the top imperial scholars in Eden with the most stellas, instead of going to other schools and colleges and furthering their education, Eden Academy sends those students to a facility far removed from civilization.

It's a facility where Project Apple breaks in their new test subjects. It's for the older kids. For the imperial scholars who showed most promise and potential.

Other theory tied into this:

What if, since Donovan used to be an imperial scholar, he got involved with Project Apple at some point in his past? Hence the surgical scars around his head? What if they experimented on him more extensively due to his high achievements in Eden?

If Melinda was somehow connected to Project Apple, either her father being a benefactor or even a scientist, she could've met Donovan there. Or their marriage was not only a political marriage but one of convenience for Melinda: as a woman in that time period, she possessed immense diplomatic and political skills to impact Ostania and Westalis on a greater scale, but not the same opportunities as a man.

So they use Donovan, their number 1 test subject. They combine both of their abilities and in their marriage to control the political climate in the country.

What if the reason why we don't see Demetrius is because he's currently being experimented on by Project Apple after he became an imperial scholar? What if the reason why a couple stuck in a loveless marriage like Melinda and Donovan had two children to see if their talents would naturally merge in them, as a social experiment for Project Apple? To create a "Übermensch"?

Ostania and Westalis remind of communist Germany during the cold war era. The SS is obviously the Stasi, the Stasi and the Gestapo of Nazi Germany often used much of the same intimidation tactics as the other, who's to say they also didn't adopt the Nazi ideology of creating a "super human" aka "Übermensch"?

In Spy x Family, wouldn't a possible goal of Project Apple be creating super humans? Or at least humans with supernatural powers that could turn the tides of the war in either country's favor?
