On paper, shee knew the person nearby hadn't been the kind of poor soul Maggie would usually force herself on—she didn't go around expecting everyone to take her seriously, after all. She was used to being perceived for her looks, particularly after spending five years wearing the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders uniform. She was a dream, a fantasy, America's Sweetheart—very much not the type of woman who could hold a conversation about anything from politics and current events to football history and player stats (despite that being a big part of the DCC interview process). She was glad, though, when the other continued the conversation, because there was something intriguing about them. Maybe it was the juxtaposition of the two of them sharing a conversation over drinks, but she wanted to know more about this individual.

"No way? My name is Maggie," she said with a chuckle, loving the connection, however small. "The Switchhitter, huh? I'll have to stop by sometime." She wasn't completely sold on her sexuality, truth be told, and saying that out loud sounded like admitting some kind of defeat. Who got to be this age and didn't know how they felt about sex? "I've learned that gay bars are usually the best bars in town, so I'm sure you're right." Maggie gestured toward the now-empty shot glass. "What's your drink of choice? Can I buy you another one? Unless you're headed over to the Switchhitter now, that is. Can't say I'd blame you, but I'd definitely be bummed."

her friends had left the stage a couple of hours prior, but holden was still here. she could feel the noise in the room expand and finally, dissipate slowly, until it was but a whisper of what it had been before. still, she stayed. it wasn't her usual spot, but she'd stayed for the band and the other live music. they mingled with their friends, but none of the conversation really touched them tonight in a way that was changing. rather, it had been somewhat lackluster and the norm. what she really wanted was a surprise, something to break up the mundane of their life. really, it had been sleep, wake, go to class, hit the field for practice, and then the library or her apartment for more study before sleeping again. a never ending cycle of repitition that had started to become mind numbing. she talked to the same people, did the same things, and it was becoming... boring. she thought maybe she might meet someone tonight that might be worthwhile, but no one had really shown themselves. so they found themselves at the bar again, deciding to order a shot or two before heading home for the night. they lived not far from the bar, so it was just a short uber ride or walk away.

and then, a voice from the right of them, feminine and pretty, rang out. holden, who did not trust easily and made new friends even less, eyed the woman with slight trepidation. there was a part of her that didn't think the other would be speaking to her if the strangers head hadn't been buried in her phone. after all, they were very different from one another from what holden could see. her combat boots were scuffed, her hair perfectly messy in a daring dyed cut, and her clothes mostly all black, whereas her sudden company looked like someone out of a movie or a really good book - the kind her friend naomi reads and tries to get holden to all the time. they were complete opposites - from what holden could see. so, like the very damaged boy they were, they waited for the other shoe to drop and the woman to leave. still, on the off-chance that she wanted to stay after glancing up, holden answered her anyways. "this bar has nothing on the switchhitter. my friend, maggie, she owns it with her wife. they have really good live music, though the clientele is... well, it's a gay bar." holden didn't look up from their drink that was just put in front of them, instead taking a shot with barely a wince before placing the glass back down on the minimally sticky bartop. "not sure if that's your thing or not." it was more a husk than a very loud comment as the burn in their throat got to them.

Still fascinated by the presence of "switchhitter" on the wikipedia page for lgbt slurs, so starting a poll now. Has anyone ever heard of anyone ever being called a switchhitter as a slur? Or acdc for that matter that ones also there

The saying: “We’re here, were Queer” isn’t a sentence that reclaims the slur, it’s a slap to the face with people who used that slur against us. We’re here, we’re Queer was a Battlecry, not just a sentence that seems to reclaim the Q slur. It costs 0 dollars to say or type lgbt. Besides, saying the Q slur repeatedly might normalise it and encourage non-lgbt people to say it. Don’t worry, I won’t stop you for calling yourself Queer, but please don’t call others the Q slur when they are clearly uncomfortable and then use this as a pethetic excuse.

For Bi people using homo- slurs: “We were called these slurs too!”

Of course! But still, if a lesbian or gay man comes towards you and asks you not to say, please don’t say it. After all, you don’t like a bi-curious or other Mspec person to say switchhitter, don’t you? I won’t stop you from using these slurs, but please only feel free to use them freely under your group of friends privately or as a quick joke or slip-up, anything but as an insult. When people call you out on it, please still apologise and don’t say it in front of them. Still show respect towards the main targets of the word that was used against them, thank you. Because you won’t die for not saying a slur for once or twice, the least not harming anyone.

“Hearts not Parts”-In any bi-context.

Can we stop using that? I know this sounds a bit boot licking, but hear me out.

Our long Quote which would be shortened into: “Hearts, not Parts”, was used in a Time where we bisexuals were blamed for spreading AIDS and called sex crazed sluts and many slurs like switch-hitter and stuff. Hearts not parts was used in a context to fight against our toxic standard kind of biphobia 'type'. Yes, it is very rude when it’s used in a different context and Pansexuals, but we also shouldn’t say that saying. We can fight over this with all we want, with the right ofc since this is a very important part of our history, but we also shouldn’t use that slogan anyway today.

“Hearts not Parts”-In pan context

Please, just, stop. Idgaf if you know or don’t know, shut up right now. Hearts not Parts in context of Pansexuality is very problematic and disrespectful. Not only is it a stolen slogan, it’s also used in a very harmful context. Hearts not parts IN CONTEXT OF PAN wasn’t used to defend themselves. Oh no. It was to 'justify they are different'. Basically, another definition. “We don’t care what’s in your parts, we only care for hearts”, that sounds very problematic, doesn’t it? And when you add the source where it’s coming from, you wish you could ban. Hearts not parts also gives off that many only care for your parts, which can also push transphobia.

“Many lesbians have used he/him and they/them pronouns! Nonbinary lesbians have existed for decades!”

Because of Safety, misunderstanding and until now, unproblematicness. Let ,e debunk your statement that they 'hes/theysbians' have als ways existed. Please, do not say Hesbian and theysbian, that is very disrespectful. Butch lesbians had to dress masculine and use he/him pronouns in order to not be recognised as a homosexual couple with their girlfriend or Stemme lesbians androgynous. They were for safety and thus, they sometimes had to accept Nonbinary people using the term lesbian or Nonbinary people thinking/misunderstanding they can use the term lesbian. Now, unless you’re hunted down for what you are and thus have to act masculine/androgynous, please do not use this excuse. Butch and Stemme lesbians were pretty strong with their Non-Woman gender expression back in that time after all and that for a good reason.

Besides, until now they kinda grew up with it, until suddenly many Nonbinary People who use the term lesbian try to change the definition of lesbian, so sadly we cannot do this anymore and lesbians are allowed to be very unease’s and distressed by this, even mad and sad and horribly upset.

“Pansexuality has always existed!”

If you mean the definition regardless of gender or other stuff, sure, it was either because of bisexual context or attraction context. Some ancient Gods were attracted to people regardless of gender, indeed. Does that mean the label Pan has always existed? No. Just like Bi hasn’t always existed. The label, I mean.

If you refer to small quotes back in the 90s, it wasn’t even used in a good context. It was mostly used as Biphobic and even homophobic intentions as well. I cannot say the fully correct quote, but one 'popular' sentence was among the lines: “I noticed people come out more bisexual than homosexual. I know what comes next, Pansexual.”. Even after, I did more digging and have found many articles erasing Bisexuality in favour of the new Flashy label. Pansexuality IS rooted to biphobia, even in old use for people who avoided Bi and created new words just to avoid using it. This is a backfiring Argument.

“We aren’t hurting anyone!”

Where does that back that up? There’s many people that speak against it and many reasons as well as historical proof that speaks against it. No one can ever not hurt anyone. Yes, we can hurt others, but you aren’t any different.

“Could you stop being so whiney?”

If you talk about us actually caring for l, g, b and t's history, no, we won’t. We stick together, and we will fight against you, no matter what. We won’t stop hurting until the damage is gone. And that can be used in both ways.
