From Uncanny Lovers series, Paulina Otylie Surys, c. 2017
Love and sex with robots are inevitable.
"Dolls don't possess any of the unpleasant qualities that organic flesh and blood humans have. A synthetic will never lie to you, cheat on you, criticize you, or be otherwise disagreeable." (Davecat, the dolls collector)

It occurs to me that the Ash model is pretty unique among the synthetics of the ALIEN series movies, not in being an antagonist but in how weyland yutani seems to use this model specifically.
The Ash model seems to be something of a secret - in ALIEN, none of the crew know he’s a synthetic which implies his model type isn’t known among the regular populace and with ROMULUS the only other Ash type model we see was among the secret project aboard the Weyland Yutani station Romulus/Remus.
Which seems to show that the Ash series of synthetics are specifically designed by the company for more secretive/black ops style projects or specifically infiltration missions where they will be mistaken for human and where the unsuspecting crew is not supposed to return alive (thus ensuring the Ash model and whatever it was sent for remain a company secret)
Now later down the line clearly this secret is blown since Bishop mentions the model and how it was faulty - so something must have gone wrong somewhere for this model to become more widely known.
Idk I just find this interesting (and also another point on the board of WeYu being a shady mega corp) especially since every other mainline synthetic is known about in some capacity.
Everyone on Prometheus & Covenant knows of the David/Walter models, they’re not a secret by any means (and if I recall some promo material for Prometheus, I believe the model was advertised also?)
Bishop is known from the get go with the only one not knowing being Ripley (who can be excused due to long hyper sleep and such)
Even if we take a look over at Isolation, Samuels was also known about, he wasn’t a twist reveal.
And in the latest movie, Andy’s model is clearly known about given the random pack of kids that chose to beat him up presumably because he was a synthetic (and later the remark by Rook of the models, we can assume they were regularly known)
Just something I was thinking about, how insidious it is and how possibly WeYu may have other ‘secret synthetic’ models for just such purposes.
#alien#aliens#alien Romulus#weyland yutani#synthetics#ash#Rook#alien romulus spoilers#in our image {androids}#probably been said before but I just started thinking about this again

"The geth serve as a cautionary tale against the dangers of rogue AI, and in Citadel Space they are technically illegal. Advocacy groups argue, however, that an AI is a living, conscious entity deserving the same rights as organics. They argue that continued use of the term "artificial" is institutionalized racism on the part of organic life, the term "synthetic" is considered the politically correct alternative."
"Experts from nearly every species predicted that true artificial intelligence-such as a synthetic neural network with the ability to absorb and critically analyze knowledge-would grow exponentially the instant it learned to learn. It would teach itself; quickly surpassing the capabilities of its organic creators and growing beyond their control. Every single species in the galaxy relied on computers that were linked into the vast data network of the extranet for transport, trade, defense, and basic survival. If a rogue AI program was somehow able to access and influence those data networks, the results would be catastrophic. Conventional theory held that the doomsday scenario wasn't merely possible, it was unavoidable. According to the Council, the emergence of an artificial intelligence was the single greatest threat to organic life in the galaxy."
"The geth were originally created to serve as an automated manual labor force. Initially their intelligence was as limited as any VI. Over time, we made small modifications to their programming to allow them to perform more varied and complex tasks, bringing them closer and closer to true AI status." "How come the Council didn't step in and stop you ?" "This wasn't true AI research - we may have been skirting the bounds of the law, but we never did anything that was actually illegal."
"The example of the geth has led to legal, systematic repression of artificial intelligences in galactic society."
"Commander, AIs are universally illegal. They must be destroyed upon contact, without exception."
Headcanon Wednesday : The Memorial in Tayseri Ward
It has been said, by some, that the truth lies in the silences.
Tucked in a corner in Tayseri Ward, close enough to the Presidium for the location to be prestigious but off the tourist circuit nonetheless, is the Memorial.
What the Memorial memorializes is an event whose very name is disputed. "The Synthetic Genocide" is a term fiercely opposed by those historians who believe synthetics are not alive in the first place, or/and who are loath to even entertain the idea that the Citadel Council, the arbiter of justice across the galaxy and the defender of the equality of all before the law, was at the very least complicit in a stochastic genocide through indifference — when the truth, of course, is much fouler. The accepted term is "Great AI Purge", though in truth, it isn't usually named, so much as described : "In 1896 CE, amidst the panic that followed the sudden revelation that the quarians were losing an existential war against the synthetics they had inadvertently created, all artificial intelligences were destroyed in the territories recognizing the authority of the Citadel Council to limit the risk of an AI uprising." If this is mentioned at all, it is a footnote in the paradigm-shattering event of the Geth War.
The truth was that everyone panicked and the Council sanctioned the murder of every single AI in Citadel Space in the name of security. In many cases, the population had not waited for the go-ahead.
The Memorial began as the friends of the murdered AIs made it out of them : the cannibalized remains of the synthetics, welded together into a monstrous, unmovable structure — the undeniable evidence of incorruptible corpses, still smoking from the gunshots.
Among the public, sympathizers lambasted the decision as "gruesome" and "in poor taste", while most of the galactic population, regardless of species, violently condemned the effort as insulting, insensitive, offensive and prejudiced against the near-total genocide the quarians had just experienced ; members of the intelligentsia were quick to accuse the organizers of "moral relativism".
The makers of the Memorial argued that, for the most part, synthetics had lacked spiritual traditions and any belief system as to what should be done with their component parts after their demise ; that many graveyards, crematoria and such had refused to take in "junk" anyway ; that the Memorial was shocking only if its components were considered corpses, which the Council itself, who had concluded synthetics were not alive, had ruled out ; and that true moral relativism was to pick and choose which systemic killing of innocent populations was an atrocious crime. The crime the quarians had tried to kill all geth for was what they believed the geth might do to them. The crime the geth had nearly killed all quarians for - down to children bombed in hospitals - was the belief the quarians would kill them all as long as they existed in the same spaces. The Citadel species had killed all the AIs because they were in the way of them feeling safe. Shouldn't you condemn all of them ? Weren't all innocent lives worth saving or worth mourning, regardless of who they were ?
The early repression of the advocates for synthetic rights - how they were systematically discredited by the media until they were, in a triumph of nonsense, accused of terrorism and collusion with the geth and barred out of public life - has been documented elsewhere. In the end, the Council decided that the best way to let the problem die down was to let it do so. The Memorial wasn't removed. By the mid-21st century, when everyone who had been alive back then (with the exception of some very militant asari) was dead, the Memorial, which weighed several tons in its original form, was cut down and reduced to a somewhat abstract assemblage of welded parts, with nothing too uncomfortable, on the ground of safety reasons. An official plaque enunciates the deep and abiding regret of the Citadel Council and all the people it represents over those horrific events, now safely tucked in the past, and their joint commitment to nothing of the sort ever happening again. There's no reason to doubt everyone is being sincere.
Isn't it worse ?
Year 1896 CE - Removal of Illegal AIs - Vault C940
These are the last of the AIs on the Citadel ?
This termination action is unlawful ! Why do you continue when our appeal has not yet been heard ?
Keep quiet ! You know that the Council will never overturn its own edict.
Standing by for your go, sir.
Do not terminate us !
Go.

I haven't seen anyone blogging about Thia, so I guess I'll start. XD
We're finally getting another woman in the artificial person club after 8 billion years. It's nice to see more diversity in the group, with Andy last year and now Thia. Hopefully she survives the movie and gets to be a recurring character. I know even the humans don't usually survive movie to movie in the Predator and Alien franchises, but it would be nice if David wasn't the only one who got to stick around for a while 😆 (Not sure if I can count Bishop bc he was on screen for only a few minutes in Alien 3)

A Needed Apocalypse
You wake up, the room is illuminated just enough to discern it to be a hospital ward. It is quiet, save for the gentle whirr-click of IV pumps, your own, is host to an arrangement of bags, ranging from saline to more bespoke, glowing substances. Your body tingles slightly, as your nervous system and neural tissues are slowly converted to something else, something less fragile, able to be merged with technology, or replaced completely.
You are known as a bridge, an informal term given to those in the mid phase of the colonist program, there are so few humans left in this age, mainly the affluent who have long fled to the lagrange colonies, the moon, and the orbital tether..
The rest below either live in waiting for their turn on the colony program to come up, living in the walled cities from the fanatics that otherwise rule the lands, long since having cast aside the higher technologies, they eschew a pseudo technological dark age akin to the turn of the 20th century.
Those in the cities have a rather interesting mix of living, with old and new intertwined with green technologies and the few living plants left on the surface, all huddled around the atmospheric processors that inexplicably keep the planet alive despite their now "ancient monument" status they are maintained for now, for one day they will be shut off, and the planet left to die.
This is the plan of the wealthy & so called leaders of course, them and their legions of synthetic servants, mechanical armies, drones and so forth. To let all life on earth die so that it could be reclaimed as paradise long after the colonists have resettled on their farcical, barely habitable worlds..
This is where you come in of course, their intent was long discovered after the first colonial deployment, and discontent had been brewing long before then..
You turn on your lamp and flick through a book, filled with options like chassis builds, limbs, hidden tools… even AI pro-genesis is possible.
Long has fiction taught you to fear the robot apocalypse, and now it has not only become necessary, but you will be a part of it, you and millions like you, not only still on the colony ships in the dark, but also,
waiting in plain sight.

Dell
"Male", he/him, 165cm, Hyperdyne Systems 120-A/2
Role: Medical officer/biologist
Assignment: Special Research Vehicle - Solaris
Backstory:
Although Dell is the same model synthetic as Ash, he was made in an earlier round of releases. Minor differences in software/hardware specs means his capabilities also differ slightly.
He was brought on to the Solaris, a W-Y and 3WE funded special research vessel, as part of the early test run of synthetic officers on long-haul flights. Their medical officer had just retired and they needed a replacement.
Dell incurred some manufacturing defects, he was put on watch in case there was significant damage instead of being destroyed outright. His issues were deemed minor and so he was put on the B-grade product catalogue. It was Jude Wilheard, the Solaris' chief engineer's idea to check the cheaper synthetics.
Personality and mannerisms:
As a crew mate he's well-meaning but dense. Unlike Ash, he's very wary of the crew's health and safety, but also easily moved to action by their collective bravado and impulsiveness. (there is no voice of reason on this boat, sorry)
He is terminally curious but lacks situational awareness, often leading him into trials and tribulations ranging from walking into doors to getting caught in fights that he could have avoided.
A bit too willing to trust humans and has a hard time recognising red flags. He's also skittish and easily shaken and has a tendency to stall/freeze up in unfamiliar situations. Which means he often gets into trouble and can't get himself out.
He has a one-track mind and dedicates himself to his work and enjoys learning about alien lifeforms (very much not aware that he's in a horror movie world.)
The speed of his processing is slightly below target for his specs and is noticeably slower than the current models. Due to the less than stellar comments from the company's product testing department, he underestimates his abilities and is often unsure of his own judgement. He's also a bit of a people-pleaser and wants all humans to like him very much, is easily manipulated, and becomes frustrated quickly.
Participating in human activities is a key part of his daily life, and he's heavily involved with the humans' personal lives. His crew is very close with him and they all function as a single unit, very in sync with each other's habits and needs.
Something else that differentiates him from Ash is his body language. He moves in a meandering, unhurried manner rather than the sharp and purposeful way most synthetics carry themselves. Dell experiences a lot of emotions and expresses them often, he's quite animated and easy to read.
Easily excitable, friendly and gullible, his personality is quite a surprise to those expecting the detached demeanour of most synthetics, almost the opposite of Ash.
Appearance and other physical attributes:
A man in his mid fourties, short and slightly chubby. Looks almost exactly like Ash except for a 'scar' on the left side of his head from an injury that's hidden by his hair and the slightly discoloured splotch under his left eye. It's barely visible and most people don't notice unless its pointed out.
Compared to Ash, Dell has a 'kinder' looking face, his standard expression is more placid, which sometimes gives people the impression that he's an airhead.
While it's not immediately obvious from the outside, his right hip joint is structurally malformed and causes the limb to rotate inwards which also affects the positioning of his leg. The deformity does not impact his mobility much aside from a noticeable limp and uneven stance, he walks slowly to minimise the effect. Most days he doesn't need a mobility aid unless the misaligned components become worn down, requiring maintenance.
Wears a different outfit/uniform that's more suited for field work
Durable woven, water-repellent synthetic fiber work jacket with the sleeves rolled up to the elbow and matching cargo pants. Muted grey-green with a slight shine.
Inner layer is a white, sleeveless high-necked shirt
Often paired with white, wrist length cotton PVC dotted gloves
Off-white, steel-toed work boots
Solaris and Weyland-Yutani patches on the jacket sleeves
Green cotton cadet cap
Extendable cane with built in stun gun function (Wilheard's design)
Misc. info:
Likes to play with bugs and make entomology mounts
Powers down to sleep mode during night hours. Sleeps curled up in a ball and sleepwalks if alone due to faulty motor suppression mechanism
Battery issue resulting in reduced time span between charges
Infographic of the A/2s for comparison
