Cats in the Cradle is really fun because Thomas is having a breakdown, obviously, on his revenge spree, and Lori is having a second, smaller breakdown because it's been nonstop since she joined them and she still hasn't been able to solve her problem, and also she's a teenager and things are very stressful. But in the back Floyd Lawton is clearly having yet a third very quiet breakdown trying to figure out if he can salvage any of this a mere two (2) issues after shooting Amanda Waller on the basis of his relationship to the Six. He gives Scandal a straight answer about why he's concerned and then pulls out half a dozen Thomas Blake endearments, I mean this guy is having a BREAKDOWN he is just doing it silently over a cigarette in the back of the panel.

it's ironic how KATSUKI BAKUGO refers to other people as nerds when in reality, he's the biggest nerd you know. his head is bent over his textbook; he's unaware of the world around him, and especially of the way you've been staring at him for the past thirty minutes. or so you thought.

he looks up suddenly, brows furrowed. "take a picture, it'll last longer."

"oh, can i?"

his annoyed expression morphs into somewhat of a more panicked one when he sees you pull out your phone; he snatches it from your hand faster than you'd expected.

"no, 'course not," he grumbles. "why're you even looking?"

"nothing," you sigh. "you're just such a— such a nerd!"

KATSUKI looks like he's been shot. "what?"

"i said what i said." you grin at him defiantly, and he rolls his eyes.

"i am not a nerd just because i touched a book," he argues, but you shush him. "you can't change my mind, kats, so don't even try."

he quiets down then, but he's always been a little stubborn — a little being an understatement here. on the way home, he turns to you again. "can you at least tell me why i'm a nerd?"

he doesn't expect an answer, but then—

"gladly." you've been preparing for this. "first of all, you're obsessed with pro heroes and becoming a pro hero—"

"that's normal," he interjects, but you continue, ruthless. "next, whenever you have free time, you're always reading someone or the other."

KATSUKI doesn't say anything.

"and," you shoot him a smile, a terrifying, anticipatory thing, before continuing. "you collect those pro hero cards! like, really? you are a nerd!"

and there — you've rendered him speechless. after a few seconds — too long, in your opinion — he finally speaks again. "swear to god, you'd be dead by now if i didn't like you so much."
