spent my morning reading Brian Baker’s “Gramophone, Telephone, Radio, Spy: Mediation and Espionage” in Randal Rogers’ Histories, Adaptations, and Legacies of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. might just be my platonic ideal of an academic essay, not necessarily for the strength of its writing but bc it manages to cram a half dozen things i am Insane abt into one chapter. ghosts!! gender!! tape manipulation!! espionage!! weird interpersonal power dynamics!! theatre!!
