Morticia lore rewrite

TW- Mentions of ||su*c*dal ideation + death along with emotional ab*se + murder. A lot of it. ||

Backstory split into 3 parts based on timeline of events:

First Witch's backstory

Story of Ianthe and Anastasius

Morticia

First Witch: Note: "First Witch" is vaguely more seen as a title that conveyed power. While not historically the VERY first witch/ mother of all witches, it was a title granted to a witch who basically attained godhood/ minor goddess like power (immortality etc). Her name is unspoken of. (There are different types of witches etc, natura born or one's who are human who study witchcraft etc. Important for later technecally.)

This part of the story take place in a long ago time period + region that was significantly poor/ corrupt and held a vendetta against witches and witchcraft.(Small village under larger more wealthy individuals who control trade with them etc)

The first witch adored humanity and life. Despite their hatred towards her kind. (Very passifist). -noted she was a very beautiful womanShe fell in love with a man in the poor village and in order to keep the facade, worried he would hate her for who she truly was or cause conflict if any other villagers found out she altered her appearance to 'grow old' with him (Sacrificing her beauty for the love of a mortal also maybe sealing away her more goddess structured powers for the sake of living a truly human life with him)

Eventually the man would pass away, but around that time she would find 2 orphan girls. To keep her home, it's memories, and honor her husband, she did not redisquise herself as a young woman again. She raises the two girls still as an old woman.

The villagers often would speak poorly of the old woman, calling her ugly, decrepit or claiming she was a witch because of how old she was/ appearance (didn't actually seriously believe it, but ment it as an insult towards her). They would bully her daughters for bring orphans raised by a creepy old woman. The first witch ignored these rumors and peacefully went on and took care of the two girls.

Very quickly, the two girls would learn that life sucks and only the rich succeed 💀. Unfairness, bribary, things that suck :( (Basically at a young age realize the world is cruel and harsh).

Older sister= Sister A

Younger sister= Sister B

The two sisters were pretty inseparable at first, having only themselves and their adoptive mother to rely on. They would argue at times of course, but they always quickly made up. (Them against the world mentality).

Eventually sister B would date a rich guy who she had been interested in for years. (Genuinely loved him) with his help she was able to provide for her family and even open up and make more friends/ connections.

Though is should be noted that her boyfriend was often manipulative and ab*sive. Basically toyed with her since he could get whatever he wanted out of the poor girl who wanted to provide for her family+ never really had ever been in a relationship so never understood true love yet or acceptance. (Influenced by cute fairytale of love) Sister A repeadedly told sister B that her boyfriend was terrible and she should get rid of him, but sister B never listened. During this time Sister A discovered very hidden away books of witchcraft in the house and begins studying in secret. (First witch is unaware of this yet) Eventually Sister B's boyfriend would begin harassing and trying to flirt with Sister A. She confronts him with how he's treated her younger sister and how he's disrespectful treating her. He admits that he never loved sister B and had been toying with her, hoping he could do the same to sister A.

Angered, Sister A then tells sister B what her boyfriend admitted, to which Sister B becomes upset that her sister was 'ruining everything for her' both because her boyfriend took interest in her sister and the fact her sister was constantly trying to tear them appart when all she wanted was romantic love from another and br able to help provide more for the family.

They have an argument so upsetting they stop talking to eachother altogether.The old woman (first witch) attempts to get them to console but she isn't able to.Sister A decides that she will no longer concern herself with Sister B since she didn't want the help. Out of pettiness she turned a blind eye to the manipulation and abuse her younger sister would continue to face from then on, despite how much worse he because after their argument, she never lifted a finger for her again Despite being fully aware of what was happening to her. She focuses on witchcraft.

The first witch does her best to protect her daughter but she declines her mother's help aswell.

First witch discovers sister A has found her old books and was studying it, so she reveals her identity to her and tells her stories and helps teach her. Has her swear to never use it to harm others.

(Tells her about the beauty she gave up for a man<important>)

She would go out on a shopping trip for more herbs and ingredients etc for study, accidentally leaving out witchcraft books/material in the home. Sister B's boyfriend would find it and immediately blame the old woman and his girlfriend for truly being witches, tell the towns people and have them all burned at the steak.(I know this is historically inaccurate but trust its important they burn)

Sister B and the first witch and dragged out of their home and tied to the steak. Sister B was unaware of witchcraft at all (completely innocent and clueless to this) while the first witch, having not used or broken the magic seal she placed on herself for years, was unable to protect herself in time. (Idea of having been taken advantage of by her love of humanity/ lowered guard)

Sister A would find their corpses at night fall, horrified and absolutely guilty.(heard the cheers and happy cries of the towns people and smelled fire and didn't want to go near originally.) She craddles them in her arms in absolute agony. First witch last minute (too late at this point for the frail body she put herself in) removed the seal, gave all her power and memories in a way to Sister A who runs home. On the way she overhears this was all the boyfriend's fault who was boasting abt what he discovered and what he did etc.

She takes all that she can carry, digging up a bottle with a single golden tear (a tea from the first witch, immaculate healing properties). She does NOT use it, choosing to keep it as a memory. Taking all she could out of the village she proceeds to burn the village to the ground with all the people inside it.

This is when she finally realizes her new role, having inherited the power's of the First witch, takes her title and pretends to be her to hold onto her legacy. (She becomes a witch/takes on a form more reminiscent of born witches instead of human)

She ends up finding and creating a hidden safe heaven for witches, Völva-Heiligtum, Sanctuary of the blessed.

---Mini character analysis:I don't want to drag this on forever, so instead of the whole character analysis section I'm just squeezing it in as quickly as possible 💀🙏

Current "First Witch" (Sister A) -after these events she experiences horrible self loathing, having been the reason for the deaths of her only family. She feels terrible guilty for both of course, but especially the way she had treated her younger sister, who she ignored the suffering of on purpose and treated cruelly until her untimely demise. A girl who died suffering and alone. While it was sister b's own decisions that also lead her there, she was still young and naive.Her sister had no part in witchcraft at all, she was unknowing of any of it.

Following this, "the first witch" gains a hatred for Humans and especially men along with an obsession with beauty and power.

- original first witch Sacrificing her power and beauty to only be with some man who died

-betrayed by towns people

-the village suvks in general + corruption-how the boyfriend treated her and her sister

• Her sanctuary becomes popular among witches and faye, she is highly respected for her graciousness and her strength.

• Basically in the position of queen in a sense• Note: despite her more regal and elegant nature and her cold, calculated, and calm demeanor she constantly feels horribly self loathing and regret for what happened all those centuries ago.

• While she is described to be elegant and mature, it's later on more noticeable how she still isn't the "all knowing" goddess stereotype at all. She was a girl was was pushed into a position of power without any more guidance, putting pressure and forcing herself to mature and act "grown up" because of what power she now had and what she had done.

• She can't handle or recognize her mistakes (in the face at least) her revenge being destroying the whole village without second thought.

• She moves forward, internally feeling guilty, but never acknowledges that day or the mistakes she makes. Later noticeable how she forces solutions to the mistakes she previously made onto Morticia• She underestimates humans mentality, seeing then as lowly disgusting cowards who only care for their own selfishness

• She was given all of the first Witch's abilities except healing. Which the only trace of it is left in her bottled tear. An item she kept for memorial now left hidden away due to the shame of her actions that lead to her owning the bottle

Story of Ianthe and Anastasius

Note: both Ianthe and Anastasius hate witches. Anastasius due to prejudice + stories he's heard from his wife, and Ianthe's personal experience with them.)

- As a child, Ianthe's father was bewitched by a witch basically. She stole her father away from her mother separating the family, and when her mother tried to retaliate, the Witch's friends cursed her, leading to her early death, leaving Ianthe to fend for herself. Later she personality gets cursed by a witch while she was pregnant, so even worse

Living in a poverty-struck village in the outskirts of the Shaftlands. Ianthe (morticia’s mother) is pregnant, but ill, being cursed after deciding to steal from a merchant who had wronged her. Anastasius, her husband, when unable to reach a church or anyone who would help due to money or distance, instead turned to attempting to formulate a cure himself.

He finds insight on a forest that has ingredients that could cure his wife. He stumbles upon a witch who he begs for help. She ends up leading him to the sanctuary, but she tells him she wants nothing to do with him or his plan. (if he gets in trouble or caught she wants no part). He picks herbs he finds he deems useful without asking and the “first witch” catches him.

She threatens to kill him and he begs her to help his sick pregnant wife. Hearing this she gives him an offer she expects him to refuse so she has an excuse to get rid of him. She asks for him to never come near this place again and to offer their first born to her. He quickly agrees to her surprise. She wants their child assuming they would become grief-stricken, taking their child (just wants to hurt them mentally). With that she lets him go (she curses him so he is unable to tell the location of the sanctuary.)

Years pass and Ianthe is cured and happy. Anastasius is too scared to tell his wife about how he cured her. When she finds out she becomes enraged. She tries to formulate a way to cheat the deal, and Anastasius, hesitant at first, also agrees.

When the first witch comes to visit them for her end of the deal (the child has been born and alive for like. 5 years). Both parents assumed the witch had forgotten or was lying because of how long she took, but seeing the witch shocked them. Ianthe attempts to deny the witch but fails. In the end Ianthe and Anastasius decide to kill their child, deciding its better that the child is dead than in the hands of a witch. Ianthe basically stabbs her daughter to death. (Ianthe refuses to let her child follow the fate of people she deems horrible).

-Ianthe did not hater her daughter, it was precisely her love that made her do something drastic. Her absolute unwillingness to allow her child to ever become a "monster" or a horrible person to hurt someone else or herself in a way. She is left to greivr for her decision

The first witch ends up just taking the child’s corpse and leaves. (pain of knowing for the rest of your life you killed your own child seemed like something that would be worse than a painful death). The first witch sees something of her sister in the child, she ends up gifting the child with the old woman (true first witch)’s tear impulsively out of immense guilt. She revives the child as a witch(rebirth. This is supposed to reference the rundrop flower from tangled trust😭). She quickly regrets it, realizing she offered a prized item to some human. She looks into the child’s future for some answer if she made a terrible mistake. Discovers the child gains a unique magic similar to the tears healing, able to heal injury and illness + curse reversal to some extent. While originally named Despia, the first witch renames her Morticia.

• First witch treats this as a moment of weakness (emotion) and despises it and the child

• Noted that Morticia’s body is unable to contain blessing/ too weak, so her body will eventually start painfully deteriorating when it can't handle it anymore

• Slight reference to idea that beauty doesn't last/ like how beautiful flowers wilt/whither

Morticia:Morticia gains her unique magic at a young age under the training of the first witch who plans to use her to profit and build connections with other witches, faye etc. (basically has ultimate first aid kit tool)

Every mistake made by the first witch, she is forced a solution to unknowingly. She's taught to hate/fear all human men. She's trained physically so she can defend herself from ever being captured, taught the importance/ significance of beauty and power other stuff I forgot rn.

She is constantly reminded that her human parents had killed her when she was a child and that Morticia herself was once human. (‘first witch’ pushing her self loathing onto Morticia who ends up feeling the same)

(her only experience with humans so she is pretty successfully terrified of them)

The first witch decided basically that she would make use of Morticia for all she is worth. She doesn't want to get attached at all. She is quick to tell Morticia that she is a tool that she will eventually kill when she is old enough and take her ability for herself (first witch sees this more as a blessing than a threat; She basically gets Morticia to believe that this is right and a fate she can never escape.)

- first witch is stuck between two feelings. One where she feels pity because of how much the girl reminds her of her sister, while the other is loathing, for her human beginnings and the slowly more prominent becoming resemblance to herself (That's crazy, raising a child obsessively to be everything you aren't and accidentally making them everything you are? Oops)

Morticia does get used to this quickly, she listens and does as she is told. Preparing herself, she trained herself to dream of dying repeadedly in order to get used to and fully accept without fear what will happen to her She delusioned herself to believe that she was completely okay with dying that way. When meeting with those she would heal, she was often silent and didn’t speak with them, not even eye contact.

*IMPORTANT*

there was one specific instance where as a young child when she was tasked with healing an ill Faye, she failed, left holding the dead faye in her arms basically. In a sudden feeling of anger the first witch had told morticia it was entirely her fault this had happened.

(This scene is more of the first Witch's self loathing. She sees is as herself and how she failed to save her sister and mother figure. She treats it almost as though she was yelling at her younger self. Remembrance of failures anger her.) This moment makes Morticia horrified of failure and her own short comings. Holding a corpse in her arms changes a person basically.

Despite her nauseous feeling and her utter fear she is still forced to continue healing others her failure weighing heavily on herself.

Morticia was isolated from everyone except two older girls who she would call her sisters, but they were restricted from taking Morticia out of the sanctuary, letting her play or anything childish by the first witch. Eventually they were only allowed brief visits. Even so they would tell her about all the fun things outside, hoping it would give her hope that she could one day go out.

While Morticia is confined to Völva-Heiligtum, she wasn’t expected to sit around all day. She was of course allowed access to the library and garden where she went the most. Though she spent a lot of time physically training by the first witch’s order. “I’m not foolish enough to allow my prized possession to be defenseless. If she cannot fend for herself it's like handing disgusting individuals an invitation to steal her.”

One day Morticia asks the first witch if she would be allowed to go to school. While she was taught in the sanctuary, her sister had urged her that the outside world was so much morr interesting. She prodded at the younger girl basically communicating that "she should want" to go to a read school. At Morticia's request, the first witch gets agitated but solves this by sending an application with night raven college.

She communicates with Crowely and gets her admission to the school. She planned to put Morticia in an environment that would make her never want to leave the sanctuary again (taking her fear of humans and guys specifically and using it to stress her out.)(She underestimates Morticia in a way. Morticia actually stays and hopes on completing school there not because she loves it, but because it was "her wish" and the first witch was gracious enough to grant it for her.

- notable she only does as she is told and is treated as a tool; this further effect her education, where she is unable to think for herself at all, only whatever she is told or the teachings of the first witch. She struggles heavily in subjects like English or one's requiring individual thought and not set answers and frameworks.

-morticia has never asked for anything for herself. Anything she ever requested or wanted seemingly was something she was told she should want.

I didn't know where to put this but the first witch did know Maleanor and respected her. After her death and Malleus's birth sometime later he goes to the sanctuary for help after Silver is heavily injured. The first witch agrees because of her respect for Maleanor, but in turn Lilia owes her a favor. She has yet to use the favor. This is Morticia's first interaction with a human after her parents. She's absolutely terrified of him despite him being unconscious. This fear actually follows her to when she recognizes him again in NRC despite never actually interacting with him physically. • Lilia is aware of who Morticia is • Comments when he sees her at nrc that she looks like ‘her’ • Also NOT A SHIP the first witch is aesexual 🙏 she does not like anyone.:
