i think ppl who say that mapleshade is an unreliable narrator should go read yellowface by r. f. kuang. not to #school them or anything but because it’s a far more interesting read than anything you can get from mapleshade’s canon book at least

#obvious cw for sinophobia and discrimination and also SA discussion about 2/3s in #but yellowface is a fantastic example of a villain protagonist who is also an unreliable narrator #its a fairly easy read too its like 300 pages and it was easy for me to pick apart the lead #i think the main reason maples book disappointed me is that ive read books that handled the villain protag role far better #that being said june and mapleshade are nowhere near the same character. different goals and all that.#idk what im getting at tbh. i just wanted to sneak a book rec in on my sideblog
