quick question about the musician AU (which i fear might have me in a chokehold for the next few days), are all heroes composers, instrumentalists, or both? (also i wanna know what instruments you think the other characters would play)

!!!! so so so excited to hear you're liking this au!!!! I would have responded to this ask quicker, but as i was doing my research I got sidetracked and ended up watching so many videos about violins and orchestral performances 😭😭

I wanted to demonstrate a large range of musical genres and styles, so it's sort of varied across Pro Heroes. Some Pros are vocalists, some are solo artists (writing and performing their own music), some play in orchestras, others conduct orchestras, etc etc etc. Also, the homeroom teachers at UA double as conductors for their classes.

As for the instruments themselves, I still haven't decided if UA is Classical instruments only (and I'm simply undecided on some) so I've included a few options! I've also included the genres I think each character would create for. Of course, these are all subject to change, but here's what I have so far:

Izuku - starts off not knowing how to play any instrument, then he picks up All Might's instrument (which I'm actually thinking of changing from Piano, but I'm undecided at the moment), then he learns the seven that the previous composers of One For All played (referencing the quirks he gains access to). Genre: Classical.

Bakugo - i know percussion is the obvious choice since that's what he plays in the anime, but if UA is orchestral then I'd probably give him something other than percussion because it tends to be a supporting role within an orchestra. If it's orchestra-only, I'd probably put him on the same instrument as Izuku, just so he can be extra pissed when Izuku picks up HIS instrument. Genre: Classical.

Ochako - Guitar or harp. Genre: Indie Pop.

Iida - Second Chair violin. Genre: Classical.

Aizawa - Either bass clarinet (because it gives off the feeling of those old noir movies, which Underground Hero Eraserhead definitely gives off to me) or contrabass clarinet (deeper sound, and supports the other melody instruments). Genre: this may be controversial, but Jazz or Indie Folk.

Tokoyami - Once again an obvious choice: Electric Guitar, or Double Bass. Heavy/Black Metal.

Present Mic - Either Vocalist or Tenor Saxophone. Genre: Hip Hop or Jazz.

Midnight - Vocalist, Viola (deeper than a violin, but just as elegant), or Electric Bass (for that dirty, slutty metal 😩😩). Genre: Classical, Gothic Rock, or Metal.

Thirteen - Ukulele. Indie Pop.

Tsu - Wind synth or clarinet. Genre: Electronic Pop.

Todoroki - currently thinking French Horn, but any brass is up for grabs atm. Genre: Classical.

Momo - First Chair Violin. Genre: Classical.

Those are all the instruments I have determined as of right now! As for the League Of Villains, I'll make a separate post about them once I set their genre in stone. Thank you for the ask, it's really nice to see people interested in this stuff :)))

I thought I had posted this but sleep got me lmao. Here are my rankings. If someone did see them, well they’ve changed already.

1. Thunder Bringer: Y’all the acting. Every song is phenomenal in the acting department but I swear this one does it! Like when Odysseus’s’ voice breaks when he says he has to see Penelope. The dread the crew feels when they realize their lives are about to end Odysseus is going to let them die. Eurylochus’ voice when he says “but we’ll die.” I like how Odysseus’ resolve begins to falter and Just a Man is brought back once again.

2. Suffering: I don’t really care that this song was an illusion created by the Sirens. I love Anna’s voice. I’m so happy Penelope appeared in this saga, even if it wasn’t technically her. Also funny thing like hours before the saga came out I was thinking “hmmm maybe Ody had a fear of water.” Also the way I was skeptic of the song the entire time because it opened with a more synth(?) sound rather than traditional and when Penelope said “daughter.” My man is a genius! 😩 he integrated the Sirens so well

3. Mutiny: Again, the acting yall 😭😭😭 they are all so phenomenal. Like Odysseus’ gasp when he realizes he’s been stabbed by his crew. All the callbacks to Luck Runs Out and more. Also bonus points for Eurylochus calling Odysseus “Ody.”

4. Scylla: Good song. I really liked the way Scylla was haunting them before she revealed herself. I can kind of just imagine them trying to get through the strait and she’s taunting them and then she reveals herself just when they think they’ve gotten out of harm. I just thought that as a song it was a little short? I’m not sure.

5. Different Beast: hmmm can’t really remember much lmao. I liked the ensemble voices a lot, but yeah.

Also my favorite remastered songs were Open Arms and My Goodbye. Uhhh yeah. The Thunder Saga, so far, might be the darkest of sagas. I love all the callbacks to old songs. Just a Man is like all over the place I think??? And like the way Ody and Eury the melody of Luck Runs Out but they’re reversed? 😩

Y’all I’m not worthy to hear such genius ✋😭

Ps. Everyone involved in this project is so freaking amazing and talented. All the singers/actors and artists ugh omg the talent is off the charts I can’t with this. Alr bye I’m gonna suffer an existential crisis with Ody.

TERRAFORMERS

A video I did to showcase my Space Rover design (the yellow thing with wheels) the rover does not have a better name yet... probably needs something cool sounding (or cringe worthy) like Land Stalker or Wheel Spinner 3000 (because if you add a 3000 to anything that sounds more futuristic, right? trust me, I`m a sci-fi artist, I know)... anyway... I`ll think about it later . Had to make an environment and add some props here and there + tiny little astronauts walking around for the sense of scale.

Sorry for the poor quality, scene is done and rendered in blender back in the day then I thought that my old veteran pc can handle good quality animated renders straight out of blender and that it will not take FOREVER to complete the rendering… Guess what, I was wrong, so for the thing to render in at least in some barely watchable way I had to drastically reduce the resolution and sample count, so yeah the final result is far away from good quality…😩

So… What did I learned back then? I learned that next time then I will want to render a heavy geometry animated scene in good quality I will have three options: 1) upgrade my veteran pc 2) if not - leave the thing to render over night hoping my veteran will not die during the process while setting my home on fire while I sleep 3) export and render the entire scene in Unreal engine 🤔 so yeah, as they say… The more you know 💫

The final video is 15 seconds shorter then the intended first version. Somehow I decided that maybe these extra 15 seconds do not look that interesting or decent so I cut them away. First uncut video has different music (some royalty free cinematic sounding track) later I replaced it with synth-wave. Because synth-wave always sound better with Wheel Spinner 3000 😅I probably post the first video as well.

Oh gosh can I just tell you how much I love you for asking me more about this alsfhdj original fic writing is so much lonelier than fanfic because you can't really scream about your OCs the same way you would about a well known character, but so much of my brainpower has been going into writing & plotting this one lately so YEAH anyway thank you thank you 🥹🙏 Here's a few tidbits of lore:

1. WMD is short for "watch me drown" which is the temporary title of the doc, both because I've had "Oh No" by Biig Piig on repeat for this story, but also because part of the story has to do with eldritch horror-type entities that pull your mind into a separate plane which is like an abyss/the bottom of the sea 👀

2. The main character is a human/synthetic hybrid who was recruited as a child into a company/organisation that created super soldiers essentially, so he was vigorously trained and he also underwent a series of procedures to give him extra abilities (resistances to the elements and certain kinds of damage, having a sort of built in "interface" in his head so he can communicate with others in his team without risk of interference, being able to scan and map out places quickly etc). People like him are often used as mercenaries or members of private armies or are hired by the actual army or the police force for sticky and difficult situations. When children start disappearing under mysterious circumstances and their bodies are found under more mysterious circumstances, he and a few members of his team were hired as extra guns and also to investigate the places where evidence was found as reconnaissance experts. After years of fighting bullshit wars and seeing ppl in his crew dying over and over again, he sort of becomes obsessed with that case and makes it a personal mission to find those kids and stop whoever is behind the abductions/rapes/murders. Only he does a little TOO well, he gets too close and sees things he shouldn't have and his team is wiped out, but he manages to save one kid and take it to relative safety before fleeing (of course after that he is blamed for everything that had been going on and the media goes on a sort of crusade against synths)

3. The other protagonist, the kid, grows up barely scraping by and basically fending for himself in the Big City, blending into anonymity as much as he can. Eventually he gets involved with the underworld in order to survive and he makes some questionable connections, but he manages to track down the main character, and together (alongside a crime boss whom the kid has befriended and who is helping them for his own nefarious reasons LOL) they try to find whoever was behind that ring because the abductions never stopped.

4. Needless to say the kid has a MASSIVE crush on the MC and has been thinking about him for years at this point LMAO he definitely has a saviour kink and no one else could ever compare 😩🙏 The MC is way more sceptical bc the boy is like half his age and also despite how full of horror and tragedy his life has been he has little to no experience with love/romance since so much of it was spent either following orders or surviving. So he definitely has a crisis right there the moment he sees the skinny and terrified little creature he'd rescued back then all grown up and drooling after him ahah. They end up having their fair share of awkward sex and complicated feelings for each other, in the process of dismantling that child trafficking ring (/unhinged eldritch monster loving cult 😬)

so uh… thunder saga. are you alive.

Do not get me started.

I am not gonna lie when I got into this fandom (around January) and found out about the different sagas the one I was least excited about was the thunder saga (not for any reason in specific, it's just that I was most excited for the underwold, wisdom and Ithaca sagas, I love Circe with all of my strengths and the vengeance saga (I think that's the name) has Dangerous and another song that I'm always forgetting but that I am so hyped for and I hate fights between friends and this saga has a song called mutiny) so I did not have much expectations for this. Boy, did I understand that wrong. It is currently my favourite saga.

Suffering - SO DIFFERENT. Jorge always likes to play with old-fashioned and modern music, but he went all in for the synths. The melody was so pretty and the fact that in the chorus Odysseus picks up the you from penelope/sirens line "I will take my suffering from you". Also, fuck you Jorge, you made me believe that this wasn't sirens and I was already thinking of an alternative universe where he didn't go to war and spent his time with Penelope and instead of a son they have a daughter but because of his other self's shit he is also afraid of water (yes, I know, way too far but that's how my mind works)

Different beast - FUCK YES, I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH. THEY SOUND SO FUCKING BADASS THAT I ALMOST BELIEVED THAT THEY WERE GOING TO SURVIVE THIS EVEN THOUGH I KNOW HOW THE STORY GOES. FJENENRGKVKCDKSMSNEFNFJCJ IT MAKES ME FEEL POWERFUL. New favourite song from the musical in case it wasn't obvious. AND IT'S SO FUCKING CATCHY, I'VE BEEN SINGING THE CHORUS FOR THE PAST 2 DAYS

Scylla - this was the song I was most hyped for and it did not disappoint. Holy shit those harmonies were everything AND HER VOICE??? *chef's kiss* I do not have much to say because I was in awe the entire time (also is it just me or whe Odysseus says "the lair of scylla" it sounds weirdly like when Athena says "goddess of wisdom" in the first berse of warrior of the mind)

Mutiny - I was so scared of this one and I was right, it was horrible (<- in a this destroyed my feelings kind of way not in a this was a bad song kinda way). As I said before I hate when friends have fights, so this was... a struggle, but I got through it, barely. I absolutely love the fact that in the Odessey, Odysseus men were just dumb. They were warned by Tereseus and still did it. HOWEVER, in Epic, they just seem so exhausted and pessimist. It's just heartbreaking to hear. The do not have hopes of getting home and their too blind with hunger. Also, when they start singing "how much longer must we suffer now" and Odysseus starts overlapping? 😩👌 Perfection. Also, the men singing full speed ahead while Odysseus just screams faster is also everything to me.

Thunder bringer - holy shit this was so much better than I thought. When I heard in the snippets "If I were to make you choose/ the life of your men and crew or your own/ why do I think they'd loose" I thought it was just a reference to Odysseus' monster side NOT THAT ZEUS WOULD ACTUALLY MAKE HIM CHOOSE. Anyways I heard the last instrumental part of the song one (1) time, which was in my first way through the saga. I cannot listen to that knowing that Odysseus is drowning and his crew is all dead because of his choice, I just can't.

ANYWAYS, after this I just have to say one thing: CALL👏BACK👏SAGA👏. There were SO MANY references to previous songs.

BUT WHAT DID YOU THINK. WHAT'S YOUR OPINION????

Good lord, this had to have been one of the most heavily advertised albums of all time, man. I don't know how much ad money the Razor & Tie label shelled out for all of their 'As Seen on TV' comps back in the day, but the commercials for Monsters of Rock and Monster Ballads were fucking inescapable throughout the late 90s and early 2000s, especially. Like, you'd be watching something on cable, and the commercial for this album would come on, so then you'd change the channel, and the same commercial would be playing on there too! And then you'd just force yourself to sit through it, and eventually, through repetition, the entire sequence of little song snippets that gets played throughout the ad would become a permanently etched medley inside of your goddamn mind, destined to haunt your soul for the rest of eternity:

🎶Cum on feel the noize, girls rock ya boys…my, my, my, I'm once bitten, twice shy, babe…poison!…*synths from Europe's "The Final Countdown"*…round and round, what comes around goes around, I'll tell you why…she's my cherry pie, cool drink of water, such a sweet surprise…we're not gonna take it, no! we ain't gonna take it…she's only seventeen, seventeen…here I go again on my own…I'm no fool, nobody's fool, nobody's fool…so hold on loosely…🎶

Now, the hair metal era may have been the dumbest and most ridiculous period of mainstream rock that we've ever borne witness to—and it's very difficult for me to think of another commercially successful subgenre in which rank stupidity has been such an inherently defining trait—but thanks to a combination of my own nostalgia for these damn Razor & Tie ads and my sometimes weird and ironic affinity for bad shit, after listening to this album, there is really nothing more that I want to do than hitch a ride back to 1990 so I can live out a super corny fantasy as a badass suburban high school senior who cruises through town in a boxy, red sedan with the windows down as these silly songs blare out of my speakers 😎.

But like I said, I am also under no illusion here; I'm fully cognizant of just how patently absurd so much of this music was. And when it comes to the pinnacle of pure trash, I really don't think anything ever quite managed to top Warrant's signature 1990 anthem, "Cherry Pie," which is obviously on this album. Like, have you heard or thought about this tune recently? It really might be the single-dumbest song that's ever been recorded in human history. And as the single-dumbest song that's ever been recorded in human history, it has thankfully and, I guess quite fittingly, been memorialized in some way, since…*checks notes*…you can currently go see the pizza box that its lyrics were originally transcribed on at the Hard Rock Cafe in Destin, Florida… 😭.

🎶I scream, you scream, we all scream for her Don't even try, 'cuz you can't ignore her!🎶

Also, Winger's "Seventeen." Yikes; you can probably guess what that one's about! Talk about songs that haven't aged well at all 😩:

Yeah… This one's catchy and all, but, um…no. 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎 Really glad we've finally realized as a society that, at the very least, fully-grown adults singing lustily about minors is a very unacceptable thing to do. I mean, it took way too long for us to get here, but at least we've finally made it to this point, right? And I think "Cherry Pie" is probably about a minor too, by the way, but that's also up for debate 😑.

To be clear, though, not every song on this album is embarrassingly dumb and/or skeevy hair metal. I happen to think Living Colour's alt metal classic, "Cult of Personality," is a genuinely great banger. And I also dig the southern rock smoothness of a song like .38 Special's "Hold On Loosely" too; but most of the rest of these are just pure dunderheaded hair metal classics, and a key, overarching feature of this stuff was just how fucking maximally mindless it all was. It's hard to put a finger on what exactly allowed this madness to spread so widely and flourish for nearly a whole-ass decade in the first place, but thank goodness grunge came along when it did and dethroned this stuff from its perch as rock music's top subgenre in the early 90s, because, seriously, this shit was so excessive and outrageous.

All that being said though, and as good and necessary as grunge was back then, I can't help but imagine what a kick-ass time it would probably be to have almost any one of these Monsters of Rock songs come on at the bar while you and everyone else around you are in a highly intoxicated stupor; like, "Black Hole Sun," "Man in the Box," "Interstate Love Song," "Even Flow," etc., might be total jams in and of themselves, but songs like those are probably not gonna do the same trick as something like Alice Cooper's "Poison" can in that type of situation. I mean, when you're fully committed to annihilating some brain cells, it's good to have music that's way ahead of you in order to accompany your experience, right? 😅

This is sort of a tough question honestly!

Of the boss music, it's a toss-up between "6:24" for The Chain (made by Danger) and "You're Mine" for The Burst (made by Carpenter Brut). They've just got so much energy and I fucking love the sound. As per usual for Carpenter Brut, he put his whole bussy into the synth for The Burst. Though, I'm an absolute sucker for the steel drums and the sound of the prison alarm in 6:24 😩. Fuck, honestly The Chain's boss music may just marginally be my favorite actually.

The Song's "Make This Right (Remix)" from The Toxic Avenger is also a good runner-up, though I will never not be upset that her Desperation Phase is just the 1st phase's music again. The things that could've done with, man...

As for the walking music, that's also a toss-up. Though it isn't anything crazy, I really appreciate "Love and Madness" from The Voice's level (made by Scattle). If I was better at making music, I would love to make a remix for a hypothetical battle with The Voice (something I already have many thoughts upon)- point is though, I would love to hear somebody's take on what it would've sounded like 👀... Onto the other walking tracks I adore though, there's "Enraged" from The Strap's level (another goodie made by Carpenter Brut), "Unraveled" from The Scale's level (made by Lorn), "A Monster" from The Beat's level (made by Waveshaper), and "My Only Chance" which plays once The Stranger finally escapes the prison (made by The Toxic Avenger, making me forgive him for stealing The Song's music for the Desperation Phase)... I'm gonna stop now before I list every other song now actually- NOT BEFORE I SAY THAT THE SCALE'S WALKING THEME REMINDS ME OF BIOSHOCK THOUGH.

There's also the trailer music, "Time To Wake Up." Thank you again, Carpenter Brut, for giving Furi some of your bangers. 😌
