something i hope was a purposeful narrative choice with aarmau in general is that they repeat the cycle of Irene and Shad never being able to be in love. There's always going to be something that keeps the two separate. One of them dies. They'll be forced apart by an outside force. They'll be completely different people who hate each other. They'll be different species incapable of communicating with each other. Irene and Shad have passed down their curse to every incarnation of Aarmau, even ones not in their own universe.
