#juney.txt#it's not a show i hate but wow the writing just isn't there#there's a whole lot of#shit just arbitrarily happens. we're doing this emotional scene where we SUBTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:tm: hint at lore or character development#uhhhhh just because the writer says so i guess. it doesn't really feel natural or properly built to it usually just kinda happens.#there are moments it *doesn't* feel like that. the kinger and pomni stuff comes to mind as a rare exception#but for the most part it feelsss. cobbled together. inelegant.#half of episode one is just characters going ''huh?? what??? what is happening i don't understand???''#and it's usually to things the audience has figured out the general gist of within two seconds of seeing it. it's very awkward#idk i'm too sleep deprived to put my criticisms more concretely and into words. hence putting all this in the tags#writing is hard. the team behind the show just kinda don't have a grasp on what to do with it.#everything else about the show is technically competent#editing. cinnamon topography. animation. sound design. lighting and colour.#acting is a little rough but to be fair. like i said they're not working with the best writing#and also find me literally any piece of media from the past ten years with good acting#it's a dying art i tells ya

This interview with the Severance DP (aka the cinematographer) back from season 1 is a cool little window into the shooting process. The show has such a unique and confident visual language, and you can tell it's the result of being super deliberate about the visual world they're trying to build and how it informs the story. She gets specific here about some of their inspirations for shooting the office scenes, and how different departments have to coordinate early on with the lighting and final color grade in mind to achieve the look they want...

The funny thing is I loved Adrien Brody in the Brutalist and was hardcore rooting for him to win, only for him to win and give an acceptance speech that immediately made me go “oh I can’t stand this guy”
#actor who should only be seen when in character I guess#if Timmy chal had gotten the win I would’ve been mad#would’ve accepted Colman Domingo because apparently he was amazing tho I still need to see sing sing#tried to do the Oscars death race and it went badly#to qualify my prev statement I did think timothee chalamet did a good job#he nailed Bob Dylan#but the emotional range of lazslo was greater#and I really did think he nailed it#oh or ralph fiennes maybe I also didn’t see conclave oops#other general Oscar thoughts were yay flow#my fave documentary short won!#as well as one of my fave animated shorts!#was really hoping for nosferatu cinnamon topography win#and Demi Moore substance win#a little confused about Anora?#watched it and enjoyed it but best picture?#OH WICKED COSTUMES WIN WAS SO DESERVED#I adored the wicked costumes#this concludes most of als Oscar thoughts#oh also yay flow
