I remember when I was reading DOTC when I was around 10, and ever since Misty died I had been waiting for the moment where Birch and Alder learned about her murder, how everyone in their lives has kept it a secret. And then it just didn't happen.
I also remember obsessively re-reading the part where Quiet Rain blows up at Clear Sky.
Birch and Alder are two characters that are just so...
I WANT to say they were forgotten about, but that word doesn't feel right for how they're constantly showing up on the screen. Clear Sky occasionally feels guilty about how he murdered their mother, but for the vast majority of the time, that's described in passive voice. So you're not reminded of just HOW cruel he was, and still very much is.
It's like they're not allowed to be characters.
Like, how does Alder feel about Clear Sky, who seemed to be acting as an adoptive father until he beat her as a child? How did Birch respond later, when Clear Sky was so busy thrashing his sister that he was threatened by a dog? How do they feel about the man who took their mother away from them?
They keep getting cited as "Good Examples Of Non-Campborn Cats," dodging around the fact they were stolen and raised by Petal. Like a lot of the other "adoptions" in the series, she quietly stops mattering to them. But even this fact... like, they're being OTHERED when they were functionally raised SkyClan.
How do they feel about THAT? That their earliest memory is SkyClan, and yet, they'll never be considered truly, fully "clanborn."
Their whole life taken from them, by Clear Sky's cruelty, their formative years spent in his violent shadow, and the narrative is just not interested in that.
#birch wc#alder wc#I see a lot of people calling this arc So Very Interesting#Begging for more of it#but like... the more I think about this arc the more I hate it.#Both reading it and the deep dissatisfaction that settles over me thinking about how much potential it wasted#All sacrificed on the altar of Sweet Brother Love or whatever was going on there#Even people who go 'oh it was so exciting' like... when. did we read the same series#the entire thing is clear sky causing problems and then no one is allowed to react violently to them#because that makes us Just As Bad#what was interesting about 3 books of the moor cats doing NOTHING as clear makes the plot happen#And another 3 books of Clear just being a bastard and everyone feels bad about hating his guts#And here's Birch and Alder who have never really been explored ever#because it would require them to fucking hate the guy who ruined their lives#it doesn't JIVE with his exoneration arc. so it cant happen

The Damned Four Warriors AU
You know all those cats that everyone in the fandom always asks how they got into Starclan, what if Starclan themselves started asking that same question?
This AU follows four cat's that were let into Starclan originally now being put into 'probation' after they don't improve as people in the slightest. Four spirits get sent back to the mortal realm and do Starclan's (Clear Sky's) will or get booted to the Dark Forest. I am not entirely sure what that 'Will' is mind you, but things from fighting back Dark Forest spirits (which are a bit more "dark nightmare creatures" in this AU) and orchestrating some of Starclan's less ethical mortal meddling. Essentially, every time Starclan begins to screw cats over and random events happen that allow for prophecies to succeed, these four are the ones sent to do it. Suicide Squad but with Ghost Cats if you will.
Now, you might say that throwing a bunch of already angered and restless spirits who all died violently into situations which will only further anger and hurt them isn’t a good way to make them better, and you would be right.
The line up:
Mudclaw: His coup attempt enraged Starclan and there was a lot of debate, but his life of being basically a model Warrior: traditionalist, brave, ready to fight, and reverence for Starclan got him enough good boy points for them to let him in. Also his 'lawyers' (spirits on his side) basically just blamed Hawkfrost for everything. However, he was not content with this, and as Mudclaw increasingly began to stew in rage and bitterness over his smiting and Starclan's intervention in Windclan, they started getting nervous. Starclan spirit's do have some power over the real world, not a lot, but enough to where one rogue Starclan spirit could cause a lot of problems. So they kicked Mudclaw into this group to keep him under control and generally just give him something to do.
Ashfur: Was let in for generally the same reasons as Mudclaw, but slightly less so. He wasn't that exceptional of a warrior, but Starclan was currently still panicking over the existence of The Three. Ashfur was convincing enough and the Higher spirits didn’t really want to deal with anything regarding any of the three for now (also they don’t particularly like Squirrelflight) so they generally just gave him the benefit of the doubt. As his obsession continued in Starclan however, the powers that be basically saw the plot of TBC coming. Ashfur is here so they can keep an eye on him and keep him away from anything important.
Needletail: Out of the four, she is the one that Starclan came closest to just chucking into the dark forest. The whole “Kin” incident angered them greatly, as Clancats betrayed their own at the whims of rogues. Her heroic sacrifice won them over enough to let her in, but Needletails general aversion to authority and caustic side remained. Basically, when they got this idea, she was already on the short list of cats they wanted gone.
Appledusk: After Mapleshade went on a rampage (which was partially their fault) they wanted someone to blame alongside Mapleshade, so they settled on Frecklewish. However, as Maple then became a major river demon that drowned apprentices and inflicted generational curses, fingers started pointing again. With everyone else involved being either a leader or a medicine cat (both of which would implicitly lay blame on Starclan) Appledusk was the next one up to get thrown under a bus.
The four are thus no longer Starclan cats, they have been cut off from the stars and their connections to the ancestral plain (I will go more into that later). They can freely roam the earth and each have certain powers that let them influence the mortal world. Also, due to them not being associated with Starclan, at least officially, they can be made easy scapegoats if things go wrong and either the mortals or other Starclan cats start having questions.
This is all overseen by Clear Sky, (if this is a suicide squad anaology, he is the “Amanda Waller”) who was ‘chosen’ (decided) to guide them and punish them if necessary. He is essentially a lesser god and the one that gives them their orders. The question of what is Starclan’s will and what is HIS will is one that tends to pop up.
Overview of all the characters, subject to change based on how I think they would act and also on any new ideas
Feel free to ask questions and also suggestions, this is very barebones so I would be happy to develop it. The cast is not set in stone, or the lore, or the story, or much of anything.

You know, about Kamiki—what I think is that maybe he was suffering from a lack of “Ai concentration” in his bloodstream.
No, seriously. If you analyze the lyrics and story, it really comes across that way.
(This analysis is filled with rants)
To be honest, I feel quite frustrated with this manga. I sometimes even think I'd be fine if it just collapsed entirely.
It's not just that the story fell apart. That can happen and it's not a fault. I'm actually all right with that end. I’m upset because it handled serious issues—like child abuse, grooming, and stalking-related murder, suicide—in such a careless and superficial way, despite the weight these themes carry.
The structure of the story also feels cruel and malicious at times.
There’s this one character who, in my view, might actually be far less guilty than people assume. But both in the story and among readers, they’ve been consistently blamed and vilified, treated as if they’re the cause of everything. The protagonist and his contract girlfriend even go so far as to brand him as the villain and a terrible person. And then, when that character says “I didn’t do it,” they cut him off, throw him into the water, killing him. That entire sequence left a bad taste in my mouth—especially since the truth still isn’t clear, which only adds to the frustration. So I looked into it, really hard, because it bothered me so much. The whole transition felt so rushed and unfair. Whatever was it that he's done, it should have been properly been dissected of right and wrong.
The thing here is that I feel Kamiki might have actually been deeply misunderstood.
That’s not to say he did nothing wrong—he clearly made mistakes and caused problems. But I think he probably did a lot behind the scenes to try to save Ai. It does keep leading into that sort of conclusion.
His driving force seemed to be his desperate wish to meet her again and bring her back to life. Out of everyone in the story, he’s the one who loved Ai most purely, longingly, and selflessly. He's the one that understood and cared for her the most. His emotions towards her weren’t malicious—they were earnest. He felt responsible for her death, for the fact that she got murdered because of having their kids, and he was trying to do something—anything—about it. It wasn’t obsession so much as grief he couldn’t let go of, and I think it pushed him over the edge. Think about it, if the one you loved got killed for having raised your children, how would you feel about that? Instead of lashing out against the world or blaming other people about it, I think what he did was to... Find a way to bring her presence back or get closer to Ai. He probably did find some sort of method that had him thinking it could work. That's exactly what the songs are implying. He tried to get her back, it kept failing, so he wanted to become something "like Ai", but what does a god say about Ai? That she's become a star in the sky. The lyrics are getting somewhere. You really have to look into those to understand this character's motives.
In terms of personality, I actually think Kamiki is the most unusually kind character in the whole series, in a way that feels almost inhuman. That’s what made it so painful for me to watch.
This manga never clearly defined who or what he really is, yet it allowed assumptions to pile up. Readers were encouraged to hate him, and then the story pulled away without resolving anything. And then it turns around and says, “People don’t care about the truth anyway.” That kind of messaging really bothers me.
The author's way of telling the story feels offensive to me. I’m not sure if I’ve ever been this upset over a work before. Maybe I have, but not to this extent.
It’s the author’s perspective that gets to me. I figured out that this is a reinterpration of myths, and it's not meant to be realistic—but if you're going to use fantasy elements, at least explain them clearly. Instead, the story leaves everything vague, and if you don’t pick up on the allegory, you're treated like a clueless reader. I just don’t think that’s fair.
This, in my opinion, is the writer’s fault.
Personally, I hope this doesn’t get adapted into an anime Season 3, but I don’t have any power over that.
I feel like I’ve figured out the backstory, but I still don’t have any hope left for the series. It makes me feel terrible, and I don’t think it will handle any of its themes properly or deliver a meaningful message. That’s why I’m so upset.
The thing is, if they do decide to adapt Season 3 into an anime, I actually think they shouldn’t change the plot.
Because if you break it down, the mythological references were surprisingly accurate. That’s probably the only part of the story that’s worth salvaging.
As for Kamiki—he’s not some evil villain. I really don’t think he should be portrayed that way.
What he is is that he’s a godlike being with the power to deal with the future, and bring goodness to all on that matter, but after losing his wife, he became tainted—or maybe corrupted or hollowed out.
With no way to recover, his power twisted into something that brings misfortune instead.
Ai really had met a kind and good person who'd love her more than anything else. The real problem stemmed from his powers that went flawed. Things wouldn’t have ended up like this otherwise.
But- he was warped by abuse. It’s hard to even blame him in that case. That's why the writers have Ai having wanted to help him—she truly did. Why would they write her like that if he's the one that's given her all the misery.
He should’ve received help much earlier.
But after Ai died, he became a god who lost his wife—and that was basically the end of his fate.
To reframe him now as some kind of outright villain feels very off to me. That should never happen because, it's not the right interpretation.
Still, I get the sense many people won’t see it that way, the writing pulls people to do it too. That is very frustrating.
And as for Aqua—the protagonist—
Honestly, I don’t even understand what he’s supposed to be.
His later actions, especially the extreme ones near the end, were an eyesore to look at.
But maybe, just maybe, it was a side effect of Kamiki’s powers breaking down—powers that were originally meant to lead the future toward good. Like Uehara and Ryosuke, Aqua might’ve been driven to madness because of its flaw.
But regardless, I don’t think Aqua ever really understood Ai, or his father that he even played as in his own movie. He didn’t seem to grasp anything properly, and I don’t like what he did at all.
Is this really someone who should be the protagonist?
I remember Chapter 163, where Aqua talks to Tsukuyomi. That chapter made me very uncomfortable.
He had just killed someone—thrown them into the water—and yet they sympathized and comforted each other without acknowledging what they’d done!
In fact, to make it worse, if Tsukuyomi hadn’t pushed him to seek revenge, I think Aqua could’ve had the life Kamiki spoke of. (What is she, really?)
Kamiki knew what that future held—because he really was a god of the future. When Aqua brings up the fact that he wants to watch Ruby at the dome, Kamiki smiles, right? That's a genuine one he makes there. He knew Aqua could really seize that sort of future if he returned! I believe that's what was going on.
But Aqua rejected that. He insisted Kamiki was evil and would ruin Ruby’s future, and so he gave up on everything and chose to die with him instead.
In doing so, he destroyed all of Kamiki’s years of effort to reunite with Ai—and left Kamiki in despair.
That's why Kamiki felt, 'I can't die yet.' Aqua didn't just ruin his own life, he ruined everything his dad was doing for his mother's sake(I know, it could have been twisted, but this work doesn't show us what he'a actually been doing with his own hands!!)
Aqua—what even was he doing?
And if the story was going to end this way, why did it include the whole subplot about him wavering between two girls?
He could’ve just hired someone to find his father and thrown him into the water—that would’ve been much, much simpler and just...more practical to do. He caused so much unnecessary pain.
Even if Aqua did things for Kana or Akane, I think showing them his death in that way would make an even deeper wound. I would go as far as to say it would’ve been better if they never got involved with him in the first place. This is a comic, sure, but in real life? When you see someone that close being dead because he committed suicide? That leaves a huge mental scar, that's what he's done and he could have avoided that. Kamiki wasn't being a threat to Aqua in that situation! He was just standing there, told him to go back! It was Aqua who drew out a knife and had things spiral into that mess. Till the end, his dad pleaded him to stop!
Now that the story’s over, I can’t say Aqua did anything particularly admirable. He hurt both of the girls who cared for her. He couldn’t offer either one his full heart.
It’s not that I avoid commenting on his romantic pairings—I just don’t have anything to say about it at this point.
And with Ruby—yes, he devoted himself to her. But in the end, he went and died without telling her any of the truth or what'd been going in in his mind. She says Aqua opened her future—but was that really the only way? Really? It sounds really ridiculous and dumb, what kind of a future opens up with your family member's death?? What is this story? Of course, I can make out what that's implying-Kamiki is a future god gone flawed so with Aqua removing him, Ruby's future wouldn't be so versatile now-but is this really right?
Wouldn’t she have been happier if he’d stayed alive?
To me, Aqua just seems foolish and pathetic. It makes me angry. He didn't just die himself, he went and killed someone. He's a murderer. The one he kills actually told him to live, to go back and choose life.
So who can he blame for how it ended?
Aqua's death wasn’t Kamiki’s fault.
At least Kamiki gave all his love to one person. But Aqua… I don’t even know what he is anymore. Why is he the protagonist?
Honestly, I just want the story to make it absolutely clear how terrible and thoughtless his actions were. But he’s the main character, so will they even go there? I’m not optimistic. It’d be the easy way out to turn Kamiki into the villain. And if that’s the case, I’d rather they don’t make an anime at all. They should not do it.
This manga depicts all these psychological pain and trauma so vividly, yet they never truly handle any of it with care. It hurts people and it's very irresponsible. Exactly the things it warns about in one of the work's chapters, it does it itself.
When something happens, you must look in to make an accurate, objective analysis of the situation, right? I just can’t support the way Aqua acted.
However, the story seems to lead people toward the conclusion: “Aqua died because Kamiki was evil.” at first glance-that framing really bothers me. In truth, it was a consequence of Aqua’s own choices.
Kamiki told him to live—he refused.
Who even wanted Aqua to die? Tsukuyomi, maybe? Probably just her if anyone wanted this sort of outcome.
Ah, right. Back to the title now—
When it comes to the lyrics in this manga, I think it's fair to take them quite literally rather than reading them as metaphors.
As for Kamiki… I personally feel that Ai—or rather, Ai’s love—functioned like some kind of power source for him.
In the main story, his battery level(power) feels like it’s in the red—barely hanging on at around 1 to 5 percent. That’s why his eyes are dark with him in bad shape and malfunctioning(literally). He's basically running on emergency mode. (You see how Fatal has some effects that sound like sirens? This is why.)
About the black starry eyes Ruby and Aqua have? It works the same way. Those are manifestations of the power or blessing they drew from their father. But because that power is unstable, it puts a strain on their souls—it’s like forcing a device to turn on when the battery’s already empty, and that overload takes a toll.
Kamiki, though—he had the potential to turn white again if he was able to receive Ai’s light or her love.
It’s true that Ai’s light was still within Ruby.
And Ai… it’s possible that, even after becoming a star, she kept trying to send her light to him. But I don’t think she was able to do so for a long time.
Then when the light did finally reach him through Ruby, there was an immediate effect—his eyes briefly returned to having those white stars. He was filled, even if it only lasted for a brief moment. That's how he knew. That's how he knew he'd be able to feel Ai if he did take Ruby's light- but did he? He did not! We actually don't know if he actually made an attempt to do so, there is no clear evidence that he did anything harmful to Ruby!! You can't just decide he wanted/tried to kill her, what he states there only indicates that he thought/knew if he did kill Ruby, he'd have felt Ai! But when you look at his actions, it's ambiguous!! I tried looking into this earlier and what I figured is that he might've still held back on it even while knowing so and is regretting about it since Aqua just dunked him getting them both killed.
There’s a lyric in FATAL that talks about needing "someone's love", or wanting to be filled with "light". That's what Kamiki needs, the love-light from Ai.
Without Ai, Kamiki truly did become “FATAL”—a walking catastrophe who threw the future of everyone around him into disarray.
In his case, I think Ai’s presence in the world was essential for him to keep existing as himself. He wanted to feel her forever. They really were a match.
Didn’t I say this before, after Chapter 166? That if Ai and Kamiki had stayed together in a healthy state, they probably would’ve had a powerful positive synergy.
I still believe that. They were simply the god of light/future—and the god of love/entertainment. They were a divine pair. Always meant to be together.
If they had been happy, drawing light and love from one another, then all the things tied to future, love, and the arts would’ve flourished as well. (That’s actually what the Aratate Shrine blesses—love and fated bonds.)
But when one of them died, the other fell apart too. Everything broke down from there.
From that moment on, Kamiki’s sole purpose became: find Ai again.
Because that guy really can't live without her. He's totally ruined without having Ai...
And honestly, based on both the mythic overtones and the narrative structure, it really does feel like he almost succeeded. He came so close, just one step away…
Which makes me think… Aqua did ruin it all for his dad.
If that’s the case, then Kamiki’s reaction—the way he responded to it all—was incredibly mild for what he's putting up with.
I don’t think many people will view it that way, but for me, that part really stands out.
It’s not that the narrative itself is bad. I just think the way the author is handling it is pretty awful.
Honestly… I really wish this series doesn't get an anime adaptation any further. It hurts to see people missing what's actually happening, and the story doesn’t seem to be communicating its message properly either. I don't trust this artist's take. Things will never be explained at this rate.
What makes ME feel so helpless is that, while I try very hard to explain things, I don't feel like it's really getting across, either...;
I've been trying really hard, but, with this work saying "people don't care" and all, it's pretty sad. If that's the type of message this work tries to get across, then it's so pessimistic and cruel at that...why would you try to make your work impose that kind of message when it is a story that feeds on love from the fans? People cared about this piece, didn't they?;
Of course, you can make whatever point you want regarding the work you create, but shouldn't you at least make it available to be understood by those who followed it?
Whew...what I'm saying is not pretty at all, I get that, but.. It'd be nice if it can be taken in this light because..; I think it's right. I can't find any other way for this story to make coherent sense. And what Aqua did is really wrong. Whether I like or hate him is not the question, what he did is still horrible and I don't want it being justified because it shouldn't be.

I can't remember if I ever posted this here or not, so if I didn't, here's a little Tsustar drabble.
---------------
Tsubaki tapped her fingertips into the impossibly deep, but oddly shallow depth of her soul, it was like sitting on a pane of glass that covered the ocean with a tiny crack somewhere in the expanse that was leaking ever so slightly to create a sheen of water on top. The deep expanse below her was a calming, darker blue, the sky above a bright, clear blue...a familiar shade, she noted with a smile.
This thought caused her to look around, seeking the other presence in her soul...well, one of the many, if she was honest, but easily the most recognizable. She spotted her Meister in the distance, walking towards her at a leisurely pace, hands in his pockets, starkly white against the bright blue backdrop of the Uncanny sky. He wasn't looking at her, he seemed to be deep in thought while looking off towards the endless horizon to his left side. He did this sometimes, she had noted, wandered off in her soul as if he might find something new on the limitless ocean. Perhaps that was what he was seeking: the limit. That sounded like him.
She could easily feel the emotions his soul wavelength was putting off and she smiled to herself when she found nothing there but a calm; reminiscent of small waves lapping at a sandy shore. It was a rare thing, this calm, in a soul so intense as Black☆Star's, so she kept silent to allow it to continue as long as it could, and she let the feeling wash over her as well. He had always been that way; his wavelength, even when calm, was a constant presence that intermingled with her own. She remembered very well the first time she had felt it, and that had been nothing at all like this.
His wavelength back then had slammed into her like a tidal wave, large and powerful and overwhelming, but that was precisely why she had chosen him. He would always tell people that he had picked her over the other Weapons, but she didn't have the heart to correct him on it. She had chosen him because she had to defeat her brother, that was her entire goal, and here was a Meister strong enough to get her there. However, the first time they trained and he had gripped the handles of her chain scythe with solid confidence, their connection was immediate. They hadn't even attended the Soul Resonance lessons yet and they were able to do it without any difficulty. They were a perfect match.
Looking back now, she still felt a bit of guilt for having used him for that first year of their partnership. But he had assured her it was no problem, that he didn't mind, because she could always lean on him when she needed to...and he had admitted for the first time that he relied on her as well. Something had clicked for her back then in that moment, she knew then that she would remain a student at the DWMA if she won the fight for the Uncanny Sword. Because he needed her with him to surpass the gods.
Black☆Star had reached her by now and he dropped into the "water" without a care in the world, falling straight down onto his back with a splash as if falling back into a swimming pool, hands behind his head, green eyes closing as he sighed.
"Find what you were looking for?" Tsubaki asked him quietly.
"Not yet," he admitted, and then he sat upright to give her a small smile. "I keep thinking maybe there's a soul here from your family I haven't discovered yet...someone who can teach me something that would let us get that idiot Crona back."
Tsubaki nodded in understanding, this was an answer she had expected. She knew the defeat on the moon, Crona's sacrifice, had affected them all very deeply....but Black☆Star was a sore loser and he had taken the loss very personally. He had gotten his dream of godhood, even the kishin itself had acknowledged he was no mere human any longer, but he was still constantly working himself harder, pushing further, to find the power to return and pull Crona out of there.
"You'll find a way, I know you will." She assured him easily, and she wasn't just saying it to soothe him. After all, he had accomplished every single goal he had set for himself. This would be no different. "I know we will."
"Damn straight."
She giggled, but they fell into a comfortable silence. This was something that no one else got to see besides her, this thoughtful, reflective side that he had developed after his decision to follow the Warrior's Path. The first time he had shown this side of him had been under that starry sky in Japan, she had never seen him so unsure and lost before...and she never had since. That had been another moment of change in their partnership, she realized, when he had let an uncharacteristically soft sentiment leave his usually boisterous mouth, comparing her to the stars. That was, maybe, the moment she realized they were more than just Meister and Weapon.
She scanned the horizon as she thought about these things, remembering the way the landscape had looked when her brother's soul was being drawn to the Demon Path, lifeless and pale pink with a sickly, bleeding black moon overhead. Her own wavelength had cleansed it once, clearing a way for light and color, but the sword had bounced back again, pulling her Meister's soul into it piece by piece and tearing it apart like all the others before. When Black☆Star's wavelength had cleared it a second time, she knew the blade would never take another soul into those empty pink depths to suffer an endless cycle of regret and misery. She would be forever grateful for that.
She glanced over at him out of the corner of her eyes and smiled softly. He leaned back on his palms, tape wrapped fingers wiggling in the "water" as she had done only a few moments earlier. It was a childish urge, she admitted to herself, but they were far from children anymore. He was only eighteen and she had just turned twenty one only a month prior, but they were aged beyond their years from the things they had been through in just the six years they had been together. They had matured more than she ever thought possible. Well, she supposed, she had always been mature because she had to be.
That was another thing she loved about him (one of the many), he had brought out the child in her that she had never gotten to be. His recklessness had made her worry at first, but now she was happy to go along for the ride, reveling in his simplistic way of seeing the world. Have fun but work hard! Never take things too serious if you don't need to! Eat junk food and go on walks or runs with no real destination! Be loud and be who you want to be. He had brought that side of her to life and where others might have felt overshadowed by his larger than life presence, she had kept up with him and bloomed like a camelia blossom in the bright light he was always shining with. She thrived in his chaos.
"Hey, whatcha thinkin' about? You keep smiling like all dork-like." Black☆Star's voice interrupted her train of thought and she blinked blankly at him for a moment before laughing and giving him a delighted smile.
"Why, you, of course!"
"Of course." He agreed, but she didn't miss the blush that colored his cheeks before he turned his head to fake interest in the edge of the white scarf he wore.
"Black☆Star." She said this somewhat imploringly, wanting him to face her so she could show him a glimpse of her own bare soul. He did, head cocked slightly like a curious dog, and she leaned across the small space between them to press a soft, but heartfelt kiss to the scar that crossed the bridge of his nose. "Thank you."
"Heh...for what?" There was no hiding the blush this time.
"For being you."

Hi, so feel free to ignore or delete this if it's entirely out of line but I have been stuck on some things hinted at in Brother's Blood for several days now, plus having a tendency towards angst in my own brain anyway...
But the thread of Sky checking his pulse, of the exertion seeming to cause problems with his heart and knowing the effects of lighting can have on humans made this plot bunny turn killer rabbit on me, especially when you described Sky’s collapse after his journey. Plus a lynel fight...
Playing fast and loose with medical stuff (apologies to Lofty) but here it is:
They found a place to settle. After the Lynel fight, they were all exhausted and no one was fit to ride. Wild was asleep once more, he'd been safe, no further injury was causing him pain, and though they would be delayed once more in moving... Time had to take his small victories where he could get them.
It was then that Time realized there was one of the boys missing.
Twilight was hovering over the sleeping Wild. Four was sharpening his own blade after the battle, Warriors’s sword was laying beside him to do and Warriors was examining his spaulder and chainmail for dangerous breaks. Sky… where was Sky? He wasn’t in the camp. He’d been with them at the end of the battle… hadn’t he? A flash of him trudging beside Twilight as they left the Lynel’s clearing came to his memory but after that? A quick lap of the surrounding area yielded no sign of the young knight. Now with worry rising, Time hurried back towards their last fight, scanning darkening hills for the flash of white sailcloth or the blue glow of the Chosen’s weapon.
There! A rustling in the bushes drew his attention to a Hylian figure lying there. Something was wrong. He got close enough to find it was Sky, weakly trying to move. He’d ended up on his back, one arm clutched to his chest, the other trying to find purchase to pull himself forward. Sky wasn’t breathing. His mouth gaped like a fish as he tried, fear and panic rising in the boy’s eyes when it wasnt working.
“Sky!” He knelt and started to try to find the cause of the boy’s trouble. The Skyloftian grasped his arm and dragged himself upright with a panic-fueled strength and clutched onto Time as the change in position allowed him to draw in a gasp and begin coughing violently.
“What happened? Where are you hurt?” He tried to shift so he could check for injuries as Sky continued to gasp and cough. He couldn’t see anything on the boy’s back, no crimson staining white that would indicate a wound. Sky shook his head feebly, scrabbling to hold his position and Time’s arm even tighter.
One minute, two, two and a half minutes passed with agonizing slowness as if he was under the Inverted Song of Time. Sky wasn’t catching his breath, he continued to cough and choke and gasp.
“Sky, do you know what is wrong?” Something was wrong and the fact he couldn’t place it was growing more dire. Sky nodded. Was it Time’s own panicked perception or was Sky’s grip starting to slacken? Five minutes, forty-one seconds.
“I’m…sorry.” Sky uttered between gasps. “Bad one…” a bout of coughing overtook him and Time found that he was having to hold the boy’s weight, no longer was Sky supporting himself. Six minutes, eleven seconds.
“Sky, do you have something to help?” The strangled words seemed to hint that the Chosen Hero had experience with this strange malady. Sky shook his head. His gasps for air were shallower than before.
“No…nothing…to…do…I-I… I’m sorry.” They were out of sight and hearing of the others. And even farther from the other half of their band and they were already trying to move the desperately injured Wild, and now this. Seven minutes now. He needed to get Sky back to the others, hoping aginst hope one of them would have something to aid the ailing Chosen. But with even the slight shift to reposition himself to carry Sky, Sky scrabbled as if to hold on.
“Please. Don’t leave.” He cried desperately. “Don’t leave me.” There was mortal terror in the Chosen’s plea. Fear Sky would not show willingly. Sky’s gasps had started to rattle in his chest as shudders of pain wracked the Chosen’s body. It hit Time all at once, memories of doomed souls in Termina, pleading for someone to stay with them in their final moments, of dying soldiers during the War of Eras, of falling comrades while on errand for the Queen. Eight minutes, seventeen seconds.
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry, Time…” And the breath left him in an awful sigh, and the Chosen Hero went limp in his arms.
“Sky? Sky!” There was not another breath. Sky was dying, had died? No, that couldn’t be what had happened. They’d come too far, they’d been through too much, Wild’s suffering, the battles and the wounds and the choice not to play the song of time and try to undo it all… Hands yanked Sky away from him, quickly laying Sky flat on his back. Warriors, the Captain had come to help.
--
Four’s lantern was extremely helpful finding their two straying heroes now that night had truly fallen. The sight when they finally did locate them...
Time was frantically calling to Sky, who was slumped in Time’s arms. The Chosen’s lips were blue, he wasn't breathing. Warriors pulled him out of Time’s grip, and laid the unresponsive Chosen flat.
“Not breathing!” He called out as Four was somewhere behind him. His backup, the one who could move to get the others in case of ambush. He searched for a pulse on one side of the neck, faint flutters met his touch.
“Flutter, no beat!” He moved Sky’s head situated him to breathe into him. Two breaths to start and then Wars positioned himself with his hands laced and locked just above the Chosen’s chest when he froze.
If he did this, it would break ribs. It would save Sky from certain death, encourage his heart to beat again, but could he cause pain in yet another brother? Even to save his life? They had no healing supplies left except for the single potion dedicated to if Wild couldn't bear his pain and bindings anymore.
He was shoved away from his spot by a surprisingly forceful Four who took the same position and began counting under his breath as he drove his weight onto a point in Sky’s sternum, and heard bone snap under the initial blow. “Wars, can you do the breaths?” Four questioned between thrusts. Wordlessly, he scrambled to Sky’s head to breathe for him again.
“Time! Time!” Four’s attempt to call out to Time brought him back to stark reality again. He'd just given Sky a fourth set of breaths, Sky was making no motion as if to breathe on his own. “Old Man, do you know how to do these?” Time was still stunned, counting along with Four by reflex. “Link, I need your help!” Time met Four’s gaze but still bore a dazed look in his eye. “Can you take over here? I need to try something...”
The deed was done, taking over the physically difficult part of trying to revive Sky would not damage him any more than he already was, and inaction would mean they'd resign all hope of saving the Chosen.
“Here, let me.” Warriors moved to take a spot mirror to Four on Sky’s other side and after taking a few precious seconds to sync himself with Four’s count, took over.
--
They needed something else. They needed to do something to restart the fluttering-ineffective beat that Sky’s heart was doing on its own. The revival techniques would only function for so long before Sky was likely beyond saving, and it would exhaust them all in the process.
He remembered in a flash something that he'd read about, that he'd heard off-hand discussions. Lightning could stop a heart, especially if the bolt went through the torso, across the heart. But, it might also be able to start it back up again. He thought for a split second about the yellow, barbed arrowheads charged with a power not unlike the most miniature of Lightning bolts and began digging in his bag for them as soon as Warriors took his spot over Sky's heart. These were likely the reason he was in this state. The monster had gotten all of them at least once but if it didn't work... Sky was already dead.
Give the lightning an incentive to jolt through him and across the heart, Vio explained as he contemplated the two arrowheads that had been dug out of chainmail less than a half hour ago. They glinted and a jolt jumped from one to the other with a flash. He gave Warriors a warning of only a second before touching the arrowhead flat to Sky’s shoulder and the other against his side just under the ribs. Sky twitched and his torso moved just a little as if to roll in the direction the current took through his torso. Four allowed three valuable seconds to allow the charge to dissipate before placing fingers on the pulse point in Sky’s neck. He couldn't even feel the flutter that Wars had reported. Warriors resumed the attempt at reviving the Skyloftian knight.
Try again Vio prompted as the doubt flashed through him. At least give it three times before you give this up.
But we need something stronger Blue mused. He barely moved.
Three to the shoulder, two to the side, try again.
Oh please let this work...
The shock spasmed Sky’s entire body this time, arching his back, forcing arms to flail and legs to kick. And Sky gasped, moving as if to sit up with the electricity coursing through him. It was dispersed almost instantly as evidenced by the fact that Warriors wasn’t thrown back as he moved to keep the Chosen flat. Sky drew a labored, painful-sounding breath, then another. A quick check of his pulse found a beat under Four’s fingers. It was weak, but not fluttery or irregular. It had worked.
--
First Time had left, bringing to their attention that Sky hadn't been with them since... how long ago? He’d been so focused on his Cub, the growing heat on Wild’s brow, the fact that his ancestor had left Wild stashed away and had come to help...
We needed the help, that monster gave us far too much trouble and Wild asked him to. He was safe in the end after the fight... So why was he still so tense?
Then, when Time hadn't come back very shortly with the missing knight, Warriors and Four had stepped out into the lengthening night with a lantern.
He tried to not show these growing concerns outwardly. They were all worn thin with the stress that hadn't gone away, on the contrary it kept ratcheting higher. Wild’s fever, his injuries both physical and spiritual that were growing in their perceived depth and scope, they were still under threat from the Yiga--he was still expecting the flutter of paper, the sulphuric stench of their smoke and the cruel laugh that said they'd come back for his Cub-- and now the lame horse and a fight with a monstrosity.
Light Spirits, goddesses, Hylia, someone please no more...
The prayer seemed futile though as his missing companions finally returned, Time carried a deathly pale Sky in his arms. Four and Warriors both looked so much more worn...
“What happened?” He asked, daring to be three more steps away from Wild to hope his hiss wouldn't wake the sleeping Champion.
“Sky collapsed. Time found him.” Four was contemplating a few of the shock arrows that he'd collected from their chainmail. “He... he wasn't breathing when we got there. I think the arrows were enough to give his heart trouble... and then the exertion...”
Sky's habit of trying to subtly take his own pulse, the ragged and harsh gasping as he'd pushed himself to get both of them out of the Yiga base... these flashed through Twilight’s mind as he watched Time carefully lay the Chosen on a bedroll that Warriors set out. The way that Time handled the knight as if he was more fragile than glass confirmed Twilight’s suspicion right as Four explained.
“We revived him. He's breathing, we got his heart to beat again. We're just going to have to find a way to stabilize his ribs in the morning so we can travel.” They were all words meant to provide reassurance but it was one more obstacle to add to the heaping pile. They had no more healing supplies, and they were still so far from the other three of their missing band...
“Twi” Wild’s moan caught his attention as his Cub squirmed to try to prod Twilight.
“what's wrong?” He moved to soothe the Champion, making an effort to stuff the new worries and stress away so his cub wouldn't pick up on it. It was too late for that though.
“Give ‘im m'pot'ion...” Wild began.
“Cub...”
“ ‘lease, Twi... we can' get to Rule..if he can't ‘ravel tha’ far...”
“The potion is for you.” The failsafe if their situation got to be too much, if Wild couldn't stand the pain or if the growing fever would be more dangerous than their chances of fixing Wild’s missing fingers.
“please Twi, give ‘im the potion... I've las'd this long. If we can' make it t’ ‘Rule... please.”
The weight of Wild’s words hit him like a darknut's blow.
“Cub, are you sure?” Wild's gaze met his with a fire and lucidity he hadnt seen in days.
“Yes.”
Oh, the feelings! I have so many of them! This was so tense to read and I loved the use of electric arrows as a defibrillator and then Wild at the end 🥰🥰😱😭🥰
Thank you so much for sending me this. I'm glad I already have a full outline of the next chapter (I'm just stuck on the fight scene) so I won't be too tempted to steal anything from it 😅😅

*tries to be mean- fails*
Dan x reader
(Introductory chapter, thats all)
---------------------------------------------------
the sun was bright, the sky clear and the breeze was cool, all this to say that i was having the worst day of my life atm. my dad was being the biggest dick head in the entire world and because he cant handle any kind of emotion or female at that he kicks me out in the blink of an eye, im sorry but im not a maid. i had to pack in a day, be out and hunting the next, and just yesterday was i approved to move into my new apartment, my own space that i can dominate to do what i want, i should be happy to be on my own at my big age of 21 but for some reason i feel bad for leaving an old man alone, but then again im not dealing with his yelling and commanding for any longer. at this moment i am moving in, i have to carry each, and every, LARGE BOX, up stairs and into my apartment MYSELF. i make my way back down to the moving van and so happen to see someone standing by it with two other people i don't know, i got a little anxious because i wanted to be a bit more on the down low but damn, three people at once. as i got closer i was able to register the people, a tall built blonde, an average sized purple haired woman and a short dark haired man. they seem friendly from afar but as i got closer and into their bubble the small mans energy makes me a little more on guard, i didn't say a word as i got closer because all i heard was the smaller man ranting about how no one was allowed to move in because its only ever an inconvenience to him and how all people are stupid and problems only come from new people. i just stood behind him and listened, by the time the other two noticed me but he was facing away from me, they looked at him and pointed in my direction. He was mid sentence when he glanced my way "OH, AND I SUPPOSE YOUR THE-" he abruptly looked me over and clasped his hands behind him and straightened his back "ooooh, you must be my new neighbor! im dan and this is my best friend Chris........and his wife Elise" he gestured to the other two people who were waving at me "hello, and welcome to the neighborhood i hope you're not moving all of this in yourself" Elise said, i smiled and introduced myself "its nice to meet you, im (y/n)". dans eyes haven't moved from my form at all but i act like i don't notice how weird he is to not hurt his feelings or embarrass him " uuuh, yeah. im kinda on my own but ill be ok" i smiled tiredly. Elise and Chris immediately volunteer to help me carry boxes into my house but i deny it to be nice, though i really do need help "dont worry (y/n) its not a problems at all we wouldn't want you to tire yourself out on your first day in your new apartment" Chris said. i smiled and looked at all of them " thank you so much, you guys are some of the kindest people I've met so far" i purposely didn't make eye contact with dan when saying that, and it caused him to to quip in " i can help, im nice too!" feeling bad i looked at him and smiled " of course id appreciate it, and maybe i can make us all dinner when we are finished" the blonde man with a box already in his arms snapped his head in my direction "yes please" and i giggled at that, hes funny and his wife is really sweet, i might want to consider a friendship, but dan is.... i don't know right now but we'll see.
---------------------------------------------------
After placing a few things that need to be put in place, i sat chris elise and dan in the living room and allow them to pick what to watch and even play games, but dan was consistent on getting in the kitchen to stare up at me and ask questions every 5 minutes like a toddler. I give up and sigh "look dan if your going to ask so many questions then you might as well put on that apron and help" it was silent, but seconds later dan has a stepping stool pulled up next to me and is wearing a frilly pink apron, i giggled at how willing he is to help me all of a sudden, hes been quieter ever since hes first saw me, almost like hes thinking constantly but about what, its not like hes not enjoying my company, i show him what to cut and how to cut it and he listens, him helping is making the process quicker. We both go to grab the last tomato and our hands touch, his on top of mine, even though i did jump a little he didn't move away at first, as if he liked the contact, when he did pull his hand away he was furrowing his brows and blushing "I-I FORGOT I HAVE TO GO FEED MR MUMBLES" and ran through the door and im assuming to his apartment. 'hm....whats all this about now' I shrug it off and scramble to finish the pasta i was making and go to sit with chris and elise with our plates "hey wheres dan" i shrugged my shoulders and sat his food in front of him and elise and sit with my own "something about feeding mr mumbles, i suppose its a cat or dog but ill head over and give him his food later im hungry right now" and with that we all ate, and after we ate we talked and even played games, and when it was time for them to leave it was late, i walked them to their car and hugged them both "thank you guys for all the help, i couldnt have asked for a better first experience and i hope we can become good friends" i say and smile "well with that meal you just cooked us consider us buddies!!!" Chris said out of his window "yea well be sure to keep in touch and maybe we can help you seek out stuff for your apartment too!" Elise had quipped, and after all of our goodbyes they drove off. After i watch them drive off i make my way up stairs and back to my apartment, as im passing each window i stopped by dans because i heard what sounded like ranting but it wasnt like earlier, where he was angry and sporadic but more low and gentle, sounded like he was kinda disappointed or sad. An idea pops into my head, maybe hes just alone and doesnt like when he feels left out, so i headed to my apartment and got two slices of cake and his dinner and went to dans, i will share this cake with him and hopefully become best neighbors and even friends, maybe then he wont be so awkward, i knocked on his door and smiled for hospitality, but for some reason it took a short while for dan to answer. i go to knock again when the door is swung open and dan is standing there looking a little down, not sad but not too enthused either "hey dan....i noticed you missed dinner so....i thought id bring it over for you, also i was hoping we could share dessert and you know...talk, get to know each other?" For a split second fear was shown on his face and while his eyes darted around his apartment he wasn't looking too sure"i-i would be honored to enjoy dessert with you, its just- my apartment is a mess" and he held his door wide open in shame. i peer in with no visible reaction but holy hell was it cluttered, usually people with depression or deteriorating mental state cant clean or notice when its too dirty, they just dont process it the same. I frown dont at dan with sympathy "dan im not one to judge but have you ever consider asking for help, i mean im sure no one wants to see you like this" his eyebrows furrow and he clenches his fist "NO BECAUSE IM NOT WEAK I CAN HANDLE THINGS ON MY OWN" aah there it is "what if i offer to come over and help ill even make us lunch" i say sweetly, purposefully sounding cute, he groans and blushes, then fidgets with his hands "ok but......dont mock me or use this against me, ill ruin your life" he said the last part as a threat, i smiled

ㅤSky should have realized he was going to have a fight on his hands.
ㅤAfter getting out of the Hero's arms, which was hard enough on it's own, the Sheikah had simply stopped walking and stood directly outside of this physicians building he was being literally carried off to. Like some weak and pathetic being that had gotten himself incredible injured and needed a strong valiant night to rescue them from the evils of the world.
ㅤNo. Sheik was a warrior, a fighter and a person who had stared evil in the eyes without flinching. If it wasn't for the fact he had torn the stitches he would have happily wandered off after the Hero back to—wherever it was they were going to face whatever horrid thing was attempting to wreck this era's Hyrule. He's held himself together with far less before, while chasing after another hero and doing the bidding of Ganondorf. It would have hardly been even a thought.
ㅤBut since it was one, and he was actually bleeding, he needed at least a few minutes to put himself back together before doing any of that. It wouldn't take him long, he's done it before, Sky didn't need to carry him off and drop him on someone else and go do who knows what without Sheik. Which, while being part of the reason he had forced Sky to let go of him, was not actually all of it. Wasn't the entire reason he had decided to cause a problem and refuse to walk in front of the physicians building.
ㅤ"I just need a list of ingredients and I can patch myself up perfectly fine." Sheik is not a Hylian (correction he is half Hylian), he's not a Skyloftian, he's not human. Sheik is a Sheikah, and they have very strict very custom rules that he has lived his entire life by. He had absolutely no intention of stripping in front of a stranger and allowing them to shove who knows what in or on his body to attempt to fix him up. He doesn't need them to touch him for something he can do himself. Something he understands how to treat himself. These weren't normal wounds, and given by the way Sky spoke—his people are not common. They won't know what to do or how to treat him, but Sheik does.
"I need a Springy Mushroom, some Chuchu Jelly and water from a Fairy Fountain. All of those are common ingredients that should be easily found." Which, Sheik hoped, meant they could be found up here. Or, at the very least, things similar enough could be purchased from the market. Ingredients that served the same purpose or had the same base molecular foundation, should work to make the salve he did in his own time. Skyloft was an odd place, but it wasn't that different from Hyrule. From the surface.
At the Hero's question on how he got hurt, Sheik took a small step away from him. His gaze darted toward the building he'd been brought to, small and very quaint looking, but the distrust had already rooted itself into his chest. Even though he had already diverted them and caused Sky to slow down, when he made it clear he didn't want to, Sheik still had no idea allow a stranger to see him in any state of undress and treat him. Either he does it himself, or they go back down to the surface and Sheik powers through it.
Those were the only options he was going to allow to happen.
"Before I ended up with you, there was a fight. My friend Link and I got into some trouble. And though we won, it was not without paying a price." Turning his head back around he met the Hero's gaze. "My people have very strict customs, as much as you trust your—" he waves his hand toward the building, "to treat my wounds I would need to remove my armor and I can't. If they were a Sheikah it would be different. I can fix myself, I just need the tools to do it."
He hadn't noticed that the Sheikah was not right behind him. Sky had been so incredibly focused on collecting whatever he could from the Temple of Time before leaving that he just... didn't realize. Sheik's steps may be incredibly quiet but they've been around one another for hours, the Chosen Hero has gotten familiar with the light sounds of the other's steps.
The Goron, Gorko had gotten his attention briefly. The other had been ecstatic to realize that there was another way to get inside the Temple of Time. Thankfully, Sky and Sheik had been the ones to go through it, he's pretty sure that the Goron wouldn't have been able to make it far and he wouldn't have an item like the Gust Bellows to be able to open certain doors or to move the platforms. His attention was pulled away when he heard Sheik calling him. Why did he sound further away?
When Sky turned to look in the direction of where Sheik's call had come from only to freeze up. The other looked hurt, was holding himself as though he was hurt. The knight quickly ran back to where Sheik was, listened to the other's apology as he knew that Sky hadn't wanted to take a break. It briefly made a conflict in his mind. Sky could bring Sheik back up to Skyloft, there was a physician who'd be able to look over Sheik and while that's being done then he could go to the Sealed Temple. But then he remembered how Sheik had not wanted to be left behind, even when all he had been about to do were quick errands around the islands. The way that the other had gripped his tunic tight and looked at him with a fear in those red eyes. The only way Sky had been able to leave was by leaving his cap with him.
But he needed to find out how he was to reach Zelda...
"C'mon, there's a physician on Skyloft, he can look you over and fix your stitches..." Sky tells him in a way that he will not take 'no' for an answer as he gently moves Sheik towards the Bird Statue.
The travel up to the sky had worried the Chosen Hero, afraid that Sheik's grip would not be strong enough but the other proved him wrong. Once Aeon caught them, he felt a questioning probe from his Loftwing as Sky directed them towards Skyloft. The most he could do was send a little bit of reassurance the large bird's way. Once they land, Sky lifts Sheik up and instead of putting him back on the ground, he carries him in the direction of the physician's home at a brisk pace as Aeon takes off again behind him.
"How did you get hurt? Were you already hurt when we first met?" The blond asks as he crosses the bridge and heads towards one of the houses. He's been here enough that he knows the way in his sleep. Once they're in front of the door is when he puts Sheik down and he knocks. He just needed to have Peri look at Sheik and then he could go restock on his potions then come back.

“The hellhounds originated from Gluttony and Beelzebub created them that’s why she looks like that. She’s suppose to be like the animal tamer of Lucifer’s circus.”
Okay but like Viv, none of that is made clear in your actual show. People had to actively ask if she was suppose to be the one and only Beelzebub and now your relying on Twitter fans to make theories on why your characters look certain ways or are allowed to do certain things, people who don’t follow you on social media aren’t gonna know shit about how this world works. I like subtle world building and hints, and I think the ideas of Beelzebub representing an animal tamer is fun (even if wrath makes more sense to me), but when the rules of how the hierarchy system and rings work is already so confusing and relies entirely on you looking it up online it just looks like you wanted to make another random furry design. Why are hellhounds represented by gluttony? We were never shown an instance of this before and the episode doesn’t even say that they’re in the gluttony ring at the start (which is just another Earth with a yellow sky this time how creative).
I’m not saying I want the show to spoon feed us everything, but just a little context and set up in the actual show instead of random things just happening all the time with no explanation would be nice? Like yeah it might get explained more later on in Hazbin, but why then did you make this entire spin-off show come out first taking place in these other locations and with these demon lords if you weren’t gonna set the ground rules of your universe for the audience? That’s exactly what’s causing people online to scramble to come up with explanations for you about why you have discrepancies like Tex and Beelzebub not being a big deal but Stolas and Blitz are, your relying entirely on diehard fans to wave away your shitty writing and world-building cause you never take even a single moment in your show to have a character say anything that would clew us in on how it all works. There’s too much exposition in writing, and then there’s never giving any so you just have to make guesses or listen in on streams to figure out what society your characters are even suppose to be navigating.
Also for the “A bee/fly would have been unoriginal and ugly, she doesn’t have to follow the Bible lore” people, have you considered the fact it’s just a messy design? Like I don’t even hate it on it’s own, she looks really pretty in the fanart I’ve been seeing. But putting aside the fact she’s just a wolf/fox girl, she has so many unnecessary markings, her actual hair combined with the honey hair looks so unnatural and awkward, the bug traits don’t stand out, her outfit is basically only a slight redesign of Loona’s and as people have pointed out makes no sense on her chest with the supposed undershirt. You just can’t tell what your suppose to be looking at when you first see her, it’s just noise, which is fine for an oc, but this is an actual animated show where your suppose to be communicating something. The problem isn’t she’s not fat, I’m glad they didn’t do that for her in a show with everyone else skinny it would’ve read bad, it’s that she only stands out because they slapped bright colors neon colors onto her, nothing about this design is clever. It’s just pretty aesthetics, no substance.

Also I’m sorry, they could’ve made her entirely a bug and still have been hot, why are people assuming we are saying she should’ve been ugly when we say we wanted a more insect-like design? I’ve seen loads of gorgeous bug designs for Beelzebub, people aren’t disappointed cause she’s hot they’re disappointed cause it makes no sense.

Cassian x Illyrian! reader
Cassian meets his mate.
(pronouns used are they/them)
word count: 1,116
You panted heavily, leaning forwards as you attempted to catch you breath again. You must have been running for miles, desperate to escape the cage you had been locked within for your short life, and for the new one you were soon to be trapped in. And of course, to escape being grounded forever.
Already, due to a lack of true practice, your flight skills weren't good enough to carry you far in the sky, but to have even that permanently taken away from you terrified you. Wing clippings were banned now, but that didn't mean the Lord's didn't still do it. Of course they did. Your father did, and it wasn't like the High Lord was going to swoop in and protect you from him.
And if you had no capability to fly, then there would be no chance of escaping Rhen, the male you were to wed. He was cruel, nearly as cruel as your father, but you knew it would be worse when you married, knew that he would do things that your father wouldn't do — worse things.
That set your feet moving once more, running as your legs burned, as you thought your feet would fall off. What to? You weren't even sure. Even though the chances of being caught were tremendously high, there was still that slither of hope that perhaps you could escape. Perhaps you could reach freedom before they got to you first.
Tears welled in the corners of your eyes. You couldn't go back to that place. You couldn't live your life like that. You didn't want to become a shell of a person like your mother had before she'd passed years ago, did not want to live a life of sadness and oppression. You desperately wanted freedom. What would it feel like? You didn't know yet. But you wanted to find that out.
So despite the pain you carried on running.
As the sky began to lighten, you knew by now that your father and brother's had risen and would be tracking you down. You ran anyways. Perhaps some beast would get to you before they did.
When you finally ran out of the thicket of trees, you slammed hard into something and toppled back onto your behind. You felt only fear as you looked up with bleary eyes at the imposing male.
He was blurred by your tears, but you still saw his warm, brown eyes, his square jaw and dark brown hair tied back by a leather strap. His siphons were bleary, but shone red. All seven of them.
He looked down at you, curiosity and concern etched across his handsome face.
"They're going to take my wings," you choked on a sob.
"Who is?" The general asked, taking a step closer. You'd be a fool not to recognise Lord Cassian. He was one of the two Illyrian's to have that many siphons after all.
"My brothers... my father," you breathed heavily, "please don't let them take me back."
You bottom lip quivered.
He held out a large hand for you, and you looked at it, blinking away your tears.
"I'll take you somewhere safe, I promise."
You met his eyes again, and perhaps it was stupid to do so, but you took the outstretched hand. You grasped his hand, warm callous skin meeting yours, and the rustling of the trees came to a stop. The entire world seemed to pause as you felt something click into place, so strongly that it would have knocked you off of your feet had you been standing. The general staggered back, mouth agape as he looked down at you.
Mates.
Mates were rare, but to be mates with the general of all people… to even have a mate. It was rather baffling.
The word remained at the forefront of you mind. You were mates. With the general no less. You looked up to him, wide-eyed.
Would he take you with him? He had to, no male could abandon their mate, there was no way he'd allow your father or brother's to take your wing, nor Rhen. He would never allow you to marry anyone but him. But what if he would take your wings from you?
The sound of another body landing came from behind you, and you turned to see one of your brothers — Benjin — land.
You tensed, suddenly lifted off of the ground by Cassian and standing on two feet once more as he stood ahead of you. Your brother stopped where he stood, eyeing you, then the general cautiously.
"Y/N isn't well, they needs to come home," he spoke bravely, annoyance there as well, and you had to wonder if he could sense the bond between the two of you or not. You doubted it if he was this bold.
Lord Cassian turned to look at you once more, "do you want to go with him?" he asked loud enough for the male behind to hear.
You shook your head, throat dry, "no."
Turning back to Benjin, Cassian glowered at him, wings flaring a little in a display of intimidation.
"They are engaged to Lord Rhen, general," he told him. If you weren't his mate, perhaps he would send you back with him instead of causing any more tension between the Illyrian's and the High Lord. Rhen was after all a camp Lord, your father his second.
"And they are my mate," Cassian growled, taking a step towards your brother, "so run back home and make it known that the engagement is off."
Your brother clenched his fists at his sides, masking his shock quite well, but thought better of saying anything. A sharp nod of his head and he had left the small clearing.
Cassian turned to you, and you took a step back to better see him as he towered above you.
"Can you fly?" he asked.
You shook your head and shrugged at the same time before speaking quietly, "not that well."
"Can I carry you then?"
You contemplated this for a second, "yes."
His arms wrapped around you tightly, leathers against your thin cotton dress, "I'll take you to my cabin at Windhaven."
You hummed in approval as he pulled you up, wrapping an arm beneath your backside to ensure that your dress wouldn't fly up mid-air.
"Thank you," you mumbled, closing you eyes tightly as your head came to rest against his leathers.
"It was no problem."
His wings extended out, and you regretted not having your eyes open to see how big they were, but before you could think too much about it, you were soaring away in the sky, hopefully on your way to freedom.

boreal star ✵ chapter two
kirigan wouldn’t be himself if he didn’t care for appearance and reputation. he supposed he would have to tiptoe around you until you showed your cards. until then, he’d have you play new recruit.
series genre: romance & angst
series pairing: [past?] general kirigan (the darkling/aleksander) x reader
word count: 1.7k
warning: slight suggestive theme (mentioned in passing)
note: wow. i’m absolutely astonished with the enthusiasm the first chapter had. thank you guys so much! i have two exams next week so i’m not entirely sure if i’ll be able to update. i will try my best :)
here’s the masterlist
“here’s your room.” aleksander gestured to a room that was vaguely familiar.
brows furrowed, you turned to him. “your room is next to this one.”
his eyes rounded in mock innocence. “really? i hadn’t noticed.”
your nose crinkled in distaste as you glimpsed down the hall. “what of my old bedroom?”
“someone else is staying in there,” his arms folded across his chest. “alina starkov, the sun summoner.”
“oh? it’s to be expected, i suppose,” you bobbed your head, stepping to explore the room. “why create another staged cage when you already have one ready?”
“what?”
you observed the flowers by the bedside and plucked one out to tuck it behind your ear. “you like to give your prized cattle the very best so they may feel important, no? it makes it so much easier to subdue them.”
“what? prized cattle? alina’s not— you were never—”
while he wrestled for a response, you continued to inspect the room before happening upon a locked door. “where does this door lead to?”
“my room,” aleksander cleared his throat, recovering from your accusations.
you froze, your hands twitching, before you tore away from the door. “your room?”
“my bedroom, specifically,” he clarified. in that moment, he looked like the cat that ate the canary.
“why would anyone want to have a room connected to yours?”
looking into a mirror, aleksander fixed his appearance. “well, i assume these rooms were designed with my future lover in mind,” he replied.
bitterness rang throughout your body as you barked out a laugh. “your lover? to think you wouldn’t jump at the chance to house your precious sun summoner here. what? was there a snag in your plan to seduce her? a boyfriend back home?”
at his silent admission, your jaw dropped. then, genuine laughter erupted from you, causing you to lean on the bedpost. your knees nearly gave in until you saw his glare. you took deep breaths and tried to stifle your amusement behind your hand.
“i’m sorry. it’s rude to laugh,” you surrendered. while your giggles subdued, he remained silent. aleksander’s reflection was eerily still, his eyes far away from reality. when you stepped towards him, he broke from his stupor and made for the door.
“rest up. you have a full day ahead of you tomorrow.” he began closing the door when he paused just before it shut. “goodnight, [y/n].”
well, that was odd.
✵✵✵
with the sun high in the sky, aleksander walked with you to the training grounds.
“do all new recruits get escorted by you or is this arrangement special?” you walked beside him with your hands linked in front of you. you sported your new deep blue kefta with white detailing.
“i can’t risk you disrupting alina’s training with your spitefulness. whatever i may or may not be planning for her, she’s still ravka’s only hope of banishing the fold,” he said. “my accompanying you is a precaution as well as your formal introduction to the second army.”
as you approached your destination, you spotted multiple grisha huddled in a ring. two of them were fighting in the middle.
“you teach them physical combat now?”
“you’d be surprised how often we lose grisha to drüskelle because they’ve tied their hands. they cannot always rely on their powers,” he droned.
off to the side, you spotted a burly man. “you have a shu training them?”
aleksander looked down at you, “he used to be a mercenary. i think you’ll find him adequate.”
“i think you’ll find i’m already above your training,” you whispered as everyone turned their attention to you or, rather, aleksander.
the shu made his way over and bowed, “general kirigan, i had no idea you would be joining us today.”
you see a girl peek her head out from the corner of your eye, her face lighting up at the darkling’s entrance.
alina starkov. i see she already holds some sort of affection for him.
the general raised his hand, “please, botkin. i am only here to introduce everyone to our newest member, [y/n]. they’re a gravity summoner.”
at the sound of your name, you reverted your attention to the crowd and gave a small smile. placing a hand on the small of your back, aleksander guided you to the center.
“actually, i was hoping you could evaluate their combat skills.”
you whipped your head around, staring at him incredulously. he didn’t change his diplomatic smile when he met your eyes.
“that is no problem, general.” botkin faced you and gestured to the crowd. “please, choose your opponent.”
your eyes scanned the crowd before you smirked inwardly. “if it’s no trouble to the general, i would like to fight him,” you requested. “i’ve only ever heard how powerful general kirigan is and, well, if he is the standard…”
the grisha around you looked at you as if you were insane. you peeked through your lashes at aleksander whose eye was ever so slightly twitching. before botkin could voice his disapproval, aleksander shrugged his kefta off.
“why not? i can’t remember the last time someone challenged me so bravely.”
you grinned as you threw off your own kefta. out of the corner of your eye, you saw the sun summoner pushing her way into the circle with a dazzled look. botkin warily lifted his hand. “no using your powers. only your fists and wits.”
you nodded and took an offensive position. botkin threw his hand down, “fight!”
you dropped down, doing a low spinning kick, and swept aleksander off his feet. he landed on his back with shock evident on his face. you then pressed your knee onto his diaphragm and gripped his sleeve. grinning, you gave him a cheeky smile.
“i don’t think i’ve ever had you on your back,” you said in a hushed voice.
with annoyance written on his face, he grabbed the lapel of your shirt and pulled you off him. he trapped your arms by your sides as he straddled you.
“because you always liked it when i was in control,” he smirked as you rolled your eyes. you thrusted your left hip up, effectively throwing him off balance and freeing you. you both scrambled to stand. aleksander crept closer to you and threw a punch. before his fist made contact, you blocked it and gripped his arm. you threw him over your shoulder and stepped on his shoulder joint. he groaned under the pressure when you leaned down.
“it’s a good thing i came to my senses then,” you said. “yield.”
he narrowed his eyes before you shifted your weight onto your foot. with the discomfort and pain rising, he quickly tapped your calf. you moved off him and offered a hand. he begrudgingly took it, allowing you to pull him up. the grisha stared with open mouths. you sheepishly smiled and hurriedly put your hands behind your back.
“i apologize, general kirigan. it seems i didn’t know my own strength,” you said in deceiving shyness.
he smiled tensely and slipped his kefta back on. “no, i am glad you are so advanced. it makes it all the more assuring that you are with us for the war effort.”
you bowed your head and brushed the dirt off your kefta, shrugging it back on. without another word, he left, alina following in his wake.
botkin clapped his hand on your shoulder. “you are an impressive fighter. where did you learn?”
“shu han. i lived there until hearing about the sun summoner.”
the man looked surprised before nodding. “your fighting style did appear familiar.” after that, he left you to be greeted by the others.
they were mostly friendly, some talking nonstop about how you defeated general kirigan. you just brushed it off as him going easy on a new recruit. you noticed another girl, a squaller judging by her kefta, glaring at you before stalking off.
“don’t worry about her,” a voice said. you turned to see none other than alina starkov herself. “apparently, she hates anyone that’s a threat to her spot as general kirigan’s favorite.”
“she must be delusional because there was nothing about that interaction that hinted at favoritism,” you snorted as you held a hand out. “[y/n].”
“i heard. i’m alina starkov.” she shook your hand with a bright smile. “it’s nice not to be the only new person.”
you returned her smile, “it all does feel rather isolating, doesn’t it?”
she laughed and nodded. “my friend, mal, and i never really liked grisha. they acted like they were the elite.”
ah, is mal the boyfriend?
“if i’m honest, i don’t like them either. i actually ran from ravka when i found out i was grisha,” you said honestly. “i guess i couldn’t run far enough.”
her eyebrows lifted, “oh? where did you run?”
“shu han. a nice place once the villagers get to know you.”
she tilted her head with confusion etching her face. “don’t they, you know, kill grisha?”
you scrunched your nose, “not as much on the outskirts. but, it gave me more reasons to hide my powers.”
“does that mean you’ll have to take lessons with baghra too?”
your shoulders tensed at the mention of the older grisha. you put on a grimacing smile, “i suppose so.”
oh, baghra’s going to kill me when she sees me.
with knowing eyes, alina grabbed your hands. “don’t worry. she’s a bit mean, but she does help you control your powers. 100% success rate, i hear.”
you nodded, patting alina’s hands, before withdrawing yours to your sides.
“alina!” two girls called. they waved their hands to usher her over.
alina looked at you apologetically. “sorry, i’ve got to go. lessons with baghra, actually.”
you sent her off with a wave. “it’s fine. it’s not like we won’t see each other again.”
she grinned, “right. i’d really like to be your friend, [y/n].”
you couldn’t help but soften at her words. “we already are, alina.”
her grin grew wider before she departed with her other friends, leaving you with your thoughts.
so full of life, that one. no wonder aleksander’s drawn to her. the brighter the light, the darker the shadows. let’s just hope he doesn’t snuff her out.

Tell Me It’s Not Too Late
(Sequel to Switchblade)
Corpse Husband x Reader (Female)
Warnings: Heartbreak, Swearing
Genre: Angst, Fluff
Summary: When is it considered ‘too late’ when it comes to expressing feelings? Is there even a time limit? Is the chance only momentary - is it a second that passes you by with no possibility of returning? All Corpse can do is hope that’s not the case. Cause if it is.....he’d rather not think about that.
Requested - sort of, but not in a typical way. Thank you to all the readers of ‘Switchblade’ that wanted to see the story have an ending that’d lead to a new start. Here it is, guys! Hope it lives up to what you expected. Love you all to the moon and back. 💖💖💖
I end my stream after almost three hours of constant scares. I sigh, slipping the headset off my ears so it’s hanging around my neck. I don’t feel that fulfilling feeling that I’m always met with upon ending a stream. I look at the countless scratches and little holes on the surface of my desk - evidence of the fear and frustration I experience while playing certain games. Not all of them are caused by that, however - Coming home after possibly the most humiliating night of my life, that desk and a few other pieces of furniture suffered my wrath and are now decorated with stab wounds that were a result of uncontrollable rage, hurt, self-hatred and self-pity. It took me a while to put an end to my hazardous, switchblade wielding rampage throughout my house, but the tears didn’t stop until the early morning hours.
I didn’t care that my feelings weren’t reciprocated. That was and is the least of my troubles. The most amount of hurt comes from the fact that I ruined something wonderful for myself. Corpse is the only person I’ve felt this close to all my life and now, due to my own poor decision making, I no longer have him. He no longer wants to be a part of the shit-show that is my life. Especially not now that he knows how messy things get when I show my forever-hidden feelings. I can’t blame him. I know I’d be running for the hills if I were him. He deserves a person who knows what’s going on in their life. Who has themselves and their surroundings figured out. Not someone who has an irregular streaming schedule and catches feelings for her best friend, ruining the friendship altogether in the process.
As I stand up from my chair, accidentally hitting the handle of the switchblade on the edge of my desk. I look down at it and how tightly I’m holding it. I seem to not be able to let go of it. Almost like I see it as my last bit of link to Corpse. The remnants of the connection I felt between us.
Maybe I should return it.
No, that’d be weird. I’d either have to go over there and give it back or send it via mail which is worse. It just feels like a harsh gesture - mailing something so meaningful as though it’s as worthless as the bills people get in the mail. I cant send it through others, I don’t want anyone else getting involved. The more people know, the more real it is.
I’m aware I’m being both overdramatic and irrational, but you have to understand how much pain I’m in. I can’t guarantee the pain will go away or even lessen if I let this switchblade go, but it’s the only thing I haven’t tried.
Only problem is - I can’t let it go. I can’t find it in me to destroy it or throw it away. A part of me is willing to take the suffering of keeping it just cause it wants to hold on to that little connection it resembles. It’s evidence it existed to begin with. I believe it’s worth the pain. The hurt will go away eventually, but the memories are forever. I’ll look back at the time I had an amazing person such as Corpse to call ‘best friend’ and I’ll have something to prove to myself that it wasn’t a fever dream.
“Oh for fuck’s sake.“ I mumble as I finally uncurl my fingers from around the damn thing and put in down on my desk.
I take the headset off and proceed to head out onto the balcony to light what I call a ‘stress cigarette’. I’m not a regular smoker, but when everything just caves, I prefer to resort to a quick puff rather than grabbing a drink. I can say no to a second cigarette but not to a second drink. That second will then turn into a third and so on. And I don’t trust myself when drunk. I don’t personally know, but I’ve been told I’m rather unpredictable.
For the first few seconds while I’m standing there I don’t notice the pouring rain by some strange miracle. I can only focus on the chill of the breeze and the fresh breath that’s finally entering my lungs. I take a moment to breathe in the cool air before I start mixing it with the cigarette smoke.
With my eyes closed, I hear more than I feel the rain on me. Storm noises always distract me from the actual storm, they calm me down. However, the sudden loud thunder causes me to open my eyes in a matter of milliseconds. I frown, slightly upset that I didn’t catch glimpse of the lightning that the thunder probably followed.
I’m not upset for too long, though. A lightning flashes right opposite me, creating the most mesmerizing of pattern you can see in the night sky during a storm. It’s so bright, it allows me to see my whole, usually unlit garden perfectly in that second or two it graces the sky.
Wait
My balcony has a clear view of my entire front yard and all it takes a glance to the left to be able to see the front doorstep.
Don’t freak yourself out, it’s just a trick of the light
I stay quiet and as still as a statue as I await another flash of lightning, my heart speeding past the point of a healthy pulse and into the realm of a near heart attack. The storm seems to be on my side because maybe a minute later another lightning bolt cuts through the black of the night.
Sure enough, there’s a person standing outside my front door.
Fuck, what do I do?!
The person doesn’t appear to be moving. They are standing just as still as I am, facing towards the house.
I thank the universe the lights inside the house are off. I turned them off cause I wanted the ultimate scary experience playing that game. The only light is the faint glow of my computer screen which is, thankfully, barely visible. I slowly start backing up towards the sliding glass door, never taking my eyes off the figure that I can just barely make out now that my surroundings have fallen into darkness again. If it weren’t for the lightning I would’ve never been able to see them.
I manage to get back inside, soaked as though I just got out of a pool, without making a single sound. Just to be safe, I shut my monitor off. I grab my phone to use as a flashlight in one hand and the switchblade just finds its way into the other, my fingers curling around it tightly, more on instinct than to use as a weapon. I know I probably won’t be able to stab whoever’s out there.
I tiptoe my way down the stairs where all the lights are also off. I flick the blade out as I hesitantly and shakily make my way to the door to look through the peephole. I let out an unsteady exhale as I look at the the figure who is now standing further away and seems to have one arm in the air, curled at the elbow.
Just as I’m about to pull away from the door to dial 911 another flash of lightning illuminates the yard, the figure along with it.
Can we go back to it being an intruder?
It’s no intruder, surprisingly - to my dismay.
I turn my phone’s flash off and reach for the switch next to the door, flicking the light on before opening the door and walking out.
“I NEARLY STABBED YOU WITH YOUR OWN BLADE!“ I yell in a desperate attempt to be heard over the waterfall of rain.
I can finally see him properly thanks to the light in my hallway. He looks like he hasn’t slept in years. He has his hood up but his black locks are sticking out in every direction from under the soaked material, not being protected from the droplets whatsoever. I read the shock in his eyes, almost like he didn’t know I lived there. He doesn’t make an attempt to approach or walk away from me so we just stand there, in the rain, staring at each other as though it’s the first time we’ve seen one another.
I snap out of the trance he has put me in, shaking my head at the ridiculousness of the situation as I step towards him, grabbing onto his wrist, “Come on, we look like drowned rats.” I don’t give him time to react as I drag him inside, closing the door once we enter. “OK, from the top now: Why were you embracing your inner serial killer on my front porch?” I keep blabbering, diverting my gaze to anything but him. “Fucking hell, I could’ve stabbed you! You could’ve gotten really badly hurt! I -...”
“You know, I wish you stabbed me.“ He finally puts an end to my sorry excuse for frustration, I’m aware I look and sound miserable. His voice drags my eyes straight to his, fixing them there. “I know you can’t kill a cockroach on your own, and I know you most definitely wouldn’t even scratch a person, but I wish you had hurt me. Inflict fifty stab wounds on me and you still won’t hurt me as much as I hurt you.“ His hand swiftly pushes the hood off his head, grabbing onto his drenched locks as an expression of pain paints itself on his face. He’s the one diverting his gaze now, “I know what you mistook my silence for and I want you to get that out of your head.“
I wince at the pang in my chest, barely restraining my hand from flying up to rest over my heart, “Don’t humor me, Corpse! I’m not a child and this is not a game!”
“I’m not humoring you. I’m telling you...“ he makes a step towards me, grabbing hold of my ice cold hands, “I’m telling you I’m an asshole that freezes up when it’s least acceptable. I’m telling you I’m the worst at expressing how I feel. I’m telling you I can’t open foil. But you already knew all that. And you still liked me.“ He breaths in, refilling his lungs before continuing his rant, “I know you can be very chaotic. A real handful. A fucking tornado. But I love you. I love you as every natural disaster you represent. And if you could humor me...“ One of his hands releases mine, coming up to push a strand of hair away from my face, resting his hand on my cheek. “...by giving me one more chance. You always let me try multiple times when I stumble over what I’m trying to say. Can you do that, for me? For us?“
I let out a dramatic sigh, rolling my eyes. “If I say yes will you stop showing up like that on my doorstep?“ Of course, my primal instinct is to act tough and cool when my heart rate is once again going at the speed from back at the balcony. The skin of face and neck is red and burning hot. My eyes are rimmed with tears, I hope he doesn’t notice.
“Yeah. I’ll start coming in through the chimney instead.“ He visibly relaxes, a smile dancing at the corner of his lips. He lifts the hand that’s still holding the switchblade, prying it out of my grasp. “No sharp objects, please.”
He drops it in the pocket of his hoodie, finally leaning down to erase any last bit of doubt I have left. This kiss teaches me a lot of things.
Love isn’t linear - nothing about it is linear. Not falling in nor falling out of it. Feelings aren’t digital or binary - it’s not always as black and white as we might want to believe. Feelings don’t just come and go. They are always present, but it depends on us weather they’re suppressed or expressed. We fear the latter cause we fear vulnerability and change. But we also crave the positive outcome we have a 50% chance of getting. It’s a fifty-fifty game, but here’s the thing: if you never express your feelings it’s a zero-a hundred chance that you won’t receive the outcome you’d like.
I took the fifty over the zero chance and regretted it for a day or two. It gave me closure if nothing more. It let me stand under the spotlight and carry my pride on my shoulders despite the tears in my eyes.
My feelings being reciprocated is just another benefit. But no longer being able to call Corpse ‘best friend’ cause he’s now got a bigger and better title is the positive outcome I have been dreaming of.
He makes it all worth it. He is worth all of it.
And if I had to go through all that again, you can bet your ass I would.

Starlight
m. de lafayette x reader
chapter four | champagne and sunsets
summary: it was never your intent to be anything more than a common thief, but fate—and a rather attractive general—have other plans for you.
word count: 2.5k
masterlist | previous | next

The expression the receptionist makes when she hands over the key to the honeymoon suite is a little too suggestive, but other than that, you find that Ambros is a rather lovely planet. The high ceilings and gilded artwork on the walls of the hotel you were staying at were a mere microcosms for the glistening planet itself, rich off tourists and natural minerals. You had a brief amount of time to read up on the history of the planet from a pamphlet at the front desk while Lafayette was checking in.
The elevator ride to the twelfth floor is quick, and you and Lafayette carry your luggage to room 1215. With the slide of the key, the door swings open and you take in the sight before you. The room is spacious with large windows and a balcony facing out over the rose-colored sea. There's a large king-sized bed that takes up most of the space, rose petals strewn over the sheets. Romantic.
A golden bottle of champagne sits in an ice bucket calling out to you. You drop your bags to the floor and make your way to the champagne where you find a small note from the hotel congratulating you and Lafayette on your wedding. You stifle a laugh and brandish the bottle for Lafayette to see.
"Free champagne," you grin.
Lafayette raises an eyebrow. "Starlight, we're working. This isn't a vacation."
You roll your eyes. "I'm aware, but that doesn't mean we can't have a little fun. Congress is paying for the room, we really shouldn't let that money go to waste, right?"
He gives you a pointed look. "Your logic is flawed."
You sigh and put the bottle back down into the bucket; maybe you'll revisit the idea of opening the bottle of alcohol if he is going to be so uptight for the entire mission.
"I'm going to go scout the area," you mutter to him, coming up with an excuse to leave your shared living area. It's probably a good idea to memorize the layout anyway. You barely register Lafayette's response as you begin to explore the resort.
There are two entire floors dedicated just to the casino, and you make a note to yourself to check them out before you leave. A few restaurants: fine dining on the lower levels, small cafes toward the middle of the building, and a bar on one of the top observation decks. There are many attractions your hotel offers, and you decide to check out the conservatory on the twenty-ninth floor.
It's rather busy around this time of day, but the conservatory is expansive enough that you can walk around freely without bumping elbows with anyone. Walking from section to section, you slyly listen to bits and pieces of conversation hoping to pick up a lead on your target. Some time passes and realizing that you've examined a starfire flower one too many times, you decide it's time to search somewhere else.
In the elevator, you catch sight of the label "pool" on the highest level and don't think twice before pushing the button. Moments later, the elevator has shot into the sky, and with a ding, the doors roll open to reveal the light purple of the twilight sky. The weather is just right when you step out onto the roof, the warm climate of the planet combatted nicely with the early evening breeze.
Most guests are attending dinner at this time or going to see a show in one of the many theaters, so the pool deck is all yours for the taking. It's been a long day for you, so you think you deserve a little bit of self-indulgence. Removing your shoes, you sit down by the pool that seems to stretch on forever, reflecting the sky on its calm surface, and you dip your feet into the tranquil waters. Closing your eyes, you allow yourself to soak in the peace of the moment.
It feels like an eternity, but when you open your eyes and see that the sun has hardly moved from its low place in the sky, you know you haven't been up here too long. You hear the sound of the elevator doors opening and immediately you tense up in annoyance that someone would come to bother your solitude. You're about to pull your legs out of the water when the intruder speaks.
"I had a feeling I'd find you up here."
You turn your head slightly to see Lafayette walking toward you. You relax a bit. Once he approaches your side, he sits down next to you, and to your surprise, he rolls up his pant legs and dips his feet into the water beside you.
"Found any leads yet?" He asks.
You hum a response and shake your head. "No. You?"
"Nothing on out target, but I'm pretty sure there's a young cardshark in the casino that's been conning wealthy guests out of their money," he says.
This makes you smile a little. "Good for them. I used to do similar work."
"I'm just going to assume you mean working in a casino and not being a con-artist."
“What? We met because I decided to con you; are you not a fan of the business?” You lightly nudge his shoulder with your own as you tease him.
“Starlight, it’s illegal,” he points out.
“Only if you get caught.”
“But you did get caught.”
You purse your lips. “Yes, because I saved your life. You wouldn’t have ever found me if I didn’t have that one moral lapse of judgement.”
“Moral lapse of judgement?”
“Mm, yes,” you hum, “I was quite successful looking out for myself and making a living. It’s a shame I suddenly felt a sense of conviction and decided to save your life.”
Lafayette snorts at this. “For what it’s worth, I’m glad you had a change of heart.”
You study his face in the dying light, pushing down the butterflies in your stomach that inevitably appear when he gives you that sideways smile. In this quiet moment, you take the time to admire the golden lines that run from his ears up the side of his forehead, intricately linking and marking him as Franco nobility. You want to memorize them and draw the patterns on your own skin; they’re beautiful. Before he can see that you’ve been staring, you look away, eyes falling to the reflections in the pool. You’re happy to be here now with him.
“For what it’s worth, I’m glad, too.”
When the last of the daylight finally leaves the sky, Lafayette stands to his feet and offers you a hand. You accept, pulling yourself up to your full height. It's too cold to stay on the rooftop any longer, so the two of you step into the elevator and press the button for your room number.
The elevator ride is uneventful, and when you get to your floor, the cool evening air greets you once again. The wide halls of your floor have open walls, large columns are wedged between the floor and the ceiling. You and Lafayette lazily walk down the hall, not in a rush to be anywhere. There are a few other guests meandering about in the open air, and that's when you spot the group of New Britannia soldiers making their way down the hall.
Ambros is such a lovely planet, you nearly forget it's currently New Britannia territory in a bordering system. Troops of soldiers police the planet, checking credentials and arresting anyone they suspect have ties to the United Planets of Amerigo.
The troops are making their way down the hall, speaking with guests occasionally and checking their papers. Your heart begins to thrash against the walls of your ribcage as they get nearer. Lafayette bares the markings of Franco nobility, and Francosia has been known to sympathize with Amerigo.
In a split second, you've made up your mind.
Taking Lafayette's hand in yours, you pull him over to a column, adjusting the both of you to where you are placed with your back to the pillar and Lafayette in front of you. You guide his hands to your waist, and while he looks a bit bewildered, he allows your movements. Your hands reach up to cup either side of his face, your fingers deliberately covering up the golden markings on his face. You pull him closer so you are standing cheek to cheek as you hear the soldiers’ footsteps get closer.
“Just go along with it until they’re gone,” you whisper into his ear, smiling against his skin as if you’re saying something scandalous.
His eyes flicker to the soldiers with a look of realization before looking back to you. You press your lips against his cheek, and Lafayette seems to get the message, because the next thing you know, he’s wraps his arms around your waist and pushes you roughly against the stone behind you. Lafayette buries his face in the nape of your neck, leaving a trail of kisses over your shoulder and along your collarbone.
His lips find a sweet spot, and he begins sucking a hickey into your skin, causing a soft moan to escape your lips. With one hand shielding his face from the passing soldiers, your other hand finds its place at the back of his neck. You can’t help but wonder when the Amerigo Army had time to teach its generals this technique.
The soldiers pass you with no problems, muttering something about “lovebirds” under their breath. Lafayette seems to have forgotten all about them, his lips moving up your neck to your cheek. He’s placing a kiss on the corner of your lips when you come back to your senses and lightly tug on the lapels of his suit.
“Love,” you say, and the both of you are both hyper-aware of how desperate and breathy your voice sounds. “Maybe we should take this back to the bedroom.”
His eyes meet yours, and he seems to understand the meaning behind your words. To your surprise, Lafayette picks you up bridal style and carries you back to the room. Once inside, he kicks shut the door behind the two of you and sets you down gently on the bed. Now that it’s just the two of you, Lafayette takes a step back from you. Tension lingers in the air.
“I… I’m sorry about that.” Lafayette’s eyes trail to the ground, obviously embarrassed.
You clear your throat, skin still warm from the moment before. “There’s nothing to apologize for. It was all just part of the cover.”
There is an awkward moment of silence between the two of you. Finally, he nods and moves toward the bathroom.
“Well, we have a long day tomorrow.”
“Yes, we should probably get ready for bed then,” you agree.
Lafayette spares you one last look, attempts a smile, and disappears into the bathroom. You hear the shower being turned on seconds later and take that as your cue to change into your nightgown. You slip into the cool covers of the bed, propping yourself up on the pillows until you find a comfortable place for yourself. While you wait for Lafayette to finish showering, you pull out your tablet and begin reading up on Ambrosian customs; you can never be too informed.
You have no idea of how long it has been, but eventually the shower shuts off. A few moments later the door swings open, and Lafayette steps out.
"About time," you tease. "Thought I'd never get a chance to brush my teeth."
"Next time you can join me. I hate to think you've been sitting out here bored," he responds.
You'd like to take a moment to think about how incredibly flirtatious his comment is, but your mind goes blank when you look up at him. He's fresh out of the shower, hair still wet. Lafayette wears a pair of dark sweatpants that hang too low on his waist. He's not wearing a shirt, and you can't help but stare at his toned skin. His stomach and arms are well-defined, and you catch the golden glint of the small medallion he wears around his neck.
He shrugs on a white t-shirt, and you can tell his body is still wet from the shower by the way the shirt clings to his torso. Never before have you wanted to be a t-shirt so badly in your life. You feel your face heat up, and you are in the process of pulling your gaze away from him, when he looks up and meets your eyes. The way his lips curved up into a smirk left you with a visceral feeling.
“S’there something I can help you with, starlight?” His tone is light and playful.
Your throat is dry, but you manage to get out, “I can think of a few things.”
Lafayette throws his head back and laughs quietly at your response, and you despise the way your heart crashes against its cage at his actions. You slide out of bed and move past him into the bathroom, putting toothpaste on your toothbrush and then shoving the toothbrush into your mouth before you say or do anything more that you’ll regret. Lafayette doesn’t notice the way you are aggressively brushing your teeth, and you don’t notice the way his eyes linger on the neckline of your nightgown and the hem that ends at your upper thigh.
When you finish brushing your teeth, Lafayette is taking a pillow off the bed and moving it to the floor.
“What are you doing?” You ask, knowing perfectly well what his intentions are.
He looks at you bewildered. “I just thought it would be—”
“I’m not going to make you sleep on the ground.”
“You’re not making me do anything.”
“Am I really that deplorable to be around?”
“That’s not it.”
“Then what is it?”
Lafayette sort of resembles a deer in headlights at this moment. He shakes his head. “Starlight, we shouldn’t. It’s just that…”
“What? What is it?” Your hands have found their place on your hips and you quirk an eyebrow up at him, waiting for a response.
The answer is on the tip of his tongue. He knows why he shouldn’t share the bed with you, but truth is something he can’t say out loud. Lafayette sighs in defeat, picking up the pillow from the ground and tossing it back to the head of the bed.
Content with your victory, you climb under the covers on your side of the bed. Lafayette is still hesitant, but eventually he climbs into bed as well, keeping an absurd amount of distance from you. You consider making a comment about this, but you’ve already argued with him enough about the bed itself, so you bite your tongue. The light beside your bed is the only thing keeping the room from darkness; you turn it off and settle into bed.
“Goodnight.” You say this quietly, the darkness imbuing the room with a sense of peace that you are all too afraid to mess up.
Lafayette must feel this, too, because his response is a whisper as well. “Goodnight, starlight.”

History of the Clans
There are two versions of the story of how all things began. The one the Clans know deals in monsters and magic, and a rose-tinted idea of the importance of warriors and the feline people in general. The one told here is from the collective knowledge of scholars, and is much closer to the truth.
Once upon a time, there was a seemingly never-ending forest, and it was home to thousands of animals - badgers, foxes, stoats, owls, and best of all, an uncountable amount of prey to feed those animals. No one hungered or wanted for land to call their own. The forest brought in curious visitors every day, who had heard tales of this land of plenty and had come to see if the stories were true.
Among them were the cats, a very foreign creature that the others had not seen before. Cats are remarkable at taking over an area and exploding in numbers before anyone has a chance to blink, and these ones did not disappoint in that aspect. They quickly took up the remaining available space and settled in to hunt and sleep to their heart’s content.
But they did not come from nowhere, as the rest of the predators had assumed. They had been brought in by humans, who were even more alien than the cats, and who were on their way after their escapee pets. With humans came a drastic upheaval - the forest was cut down to a quarter of its original size just as fast as the cats had made themselves comfortable; the once wooded slope to the west had a structure built near it and the ground was torn up for planting strange grass; the east was taken over by glass and brick from the humans; and finally, a straight, wide path, stinking of something foreign and dangerous, cut the area apart, splitting the high stones in the west and the growing wetlands in the north from the hills and what remained of the forest.
This unprecedented shrinking of territory left many animals without a home, or in defense of the little they had left. Friend turned on friend, family forgotten. Quickly, a free-for-all broke out, leading to many predators dead or severely injured and fleeing for their life from the forest. The cats proved themselves adaptable to any situation - the entire community banded together and, as a team, drove out the rest of the predators, sending them in every direction but the east and properly taking the forest for themselves.
The victory was short-lived as a new problem presented itself: everyone had lingered as long as there was food to eat before escaping. Mice, squirrels, birds, rabbits - there were barely any of them left. It wasn’t helped by the cats having a tendency to overhunt when there was nothing else to do. The unity once present dissolved as territories began to overlap and cats attacked each other for pathetic morsels that could be swallowed whole. The few kittypets living with humans had even their terrible food stolen, with some cats deserting the forest to wander the developing streets, hoping for charity. The prey population continued to shrink and some turned to even more desperate, much darker sources of food.
Things got even worse when a crew of pilgrims arrived, late to the party and unaware of how bad the forest had gotten. Natives immediately bullied them away from their scant reserves. With nowhere else to go, the pilgrims huddled on the other side of the river on the edge of the forest and prayed for help.
Then she arrived.
To this day, no one knows where the old molly known only as the Crone came from. She seemed to appear from the mist to inspect the forest, sniff disdainfully, and call together a sizeable cluster of cats before leading them away to the hills, where some of the human grass had gotten loose and taken over the moor.
The decrease in population helped reserve the dwindling resources a bit, and cats temporarily forgot their battles to watch curiously as the new colony in the west found a place to settle at the top of the hills and thrive on the influx of prey that came from the farmland, which had receded its grip on the moor and left it free to hunt on. Several cats discussed leaving the forest to request sanctuary with this colony. Others turned their eyes across the human’s path (that was slowly turning into stinking black stone), where the wetlands were settling into a proper marsh. The pilgrims’ scant territory was growing grass, bringing in some animals to hunt.
Before any action could be taken on its own, the Crone reappeared in the forest and called together the residents. She announced that her test run of creating a colony had gone successfully, and now she was ready to help the rest of the scattered cats create their own groups, organize a hunting system, and allow their land to restore itself to something one could comfortably live in. This, she said, would ensure an era of peace for everyone, and if any were interested, they could come with her to be trained as leaders to complete her mission.
Four cats volunteered: Brawn, a huge, powerful tom that had fought and won many battles in exchange for prey; Ripple, a stray from far off that had fallen in with the pilgrims; Dewdrop, a former kittypet who had been cast out from her home and was desperate for security; and Clear Sky, a pilgrim that was ambitious and eager to join the project. The Crone took all four of them and left for the hills again without another word, except an order to limit the hunting in the forest. This was obeyed, since there wasn’t enough prey to hunt normally anyway.
Before too long, the four cats returned and began to gather cats. Brawn called for those that he considered allies of himself or his friends, which were mostly those he had fought together with before, giving him the strongest fighters, and claimed the forest for his colony. Ripple had his pilgrims already, and they stayed south, on the far side of the river. Those that had been cast away or were weak or distrusted were taken in by Dewdrop, who brought them to the marshes so that they were far enough away to not cause problems with the other colonies. The rest who did not fit in anywhere else or were loners looking to have a proper home again followed Clear Sky to the outlier part of the land, touching only the corner of the forest and river territories. The Crone brought in no one else except one stray pilgrim called Grey Wing as her new second-in-command, a position she called “deputy”. The other leaders followed suit by appointing deputies for their own, carefully chosen to contrast their superiors and speak as the voice of the rest of the colonies.
With this, the leaders exercised what the Crone had taught them: in an unheard of move, hunting was organized and scheduled, with acceptable hunting areas changed day-to-day and prey of the day altering depending on what had the most numbers at the time. Borders were laid out so that no one accidentally took from another colony and reduced their number of prey. The most amazing of these decisions came from the pilgrims, who Ripple taught to hunt in the water - because no one had dared to jump in the deeper parts or even really fish at all, there was plenty of prey for the pilgrims, leading to no source of conflict with anyone else. The other colonies slowly began to prosper over time as less cats shared more prey with their communities. The exception was Clear Sky’s colony, which he proved to be a poor leader of and was eventually driven out before the colony disbanded and either joined up with the others or left for other areas.
With the unusual, regimented structure, there came a very faint sense of ranks within the colonies: the leader, the deputy, and queens, with the average member not belonging to any of these and being unnamed in their position. Queens were given special treatment and their own dens to have their children, and they had prey delivered to them while they raised the next generation.
As time went on and the colonies grew strong, healthy and well-fed, their members’ confidence were boosted. Old grudges resurfaced and the borders that were put in place to help hunting became places to defend or skirmish to settle arguments. Fights broke out, even with the leaders attempting to resolve disputes peacefully. Worse, these fights escalated as more cats joined their new friends to defend their pride or help with revenge. Things got worse and more vicious, until several very young cats got caught in a large battle they had nothing to do with and were killed.
This was the breaking point. Queens across the territories campaigned for a law to be set in place for the protection of their kits, while the more peaceful members encouraged rules of their own to prevent these unnecessary fights. The leaders got together and devised a burgeoning code that every cat was expected to follow if they wanted to stay in their home.
The first of these was making a new rank for cats that were too young to be acceptably attacked, with a suffix to their name, -kit, which was taken away once they were older. These cats were under six months old, and were absolutely forbidden to be hurt or killed. Those that aged out of it were still in danger, until Brawn’s deputy, Ember, started teaching them to hunt and fight to protect themselves. The rest of the colonies, now under the name of “Clans”, immediately borrowed this idea. Soon after came the next rank of apprentice, and the suffix of -kit was changed to -paw.
At the time, suffixes were reserved for the young, but the leader of the river Clan, now called River Ripple to give respect to his territory, took his group’s original two-part naming system and awarded apprentices for making it to adulthood with their own individual suffixes. This, too, very quickly became popular with everyone else.
More changes were made over time - elder as a rank being added, religion and seers blossoming into things of great value, more additions to the code, the Clans being properly named, and so on - but these came to be more gradually. For now, at least, the wild and fast alteration of the forest from a place of chaos and disorder to a variety of territories with law-abiding Clans had been completed. From there, things have only gotten better.

I saw your requests were open so I 🥺👉🏼👈🏼 I’m not sure if you do Guy but if you do, maybe a scenario where the reader is dancing under the rain and having fun but Guy is worried for their health and is trying to coax them back in but the reader manages to pull Guy with them and start dancing together. I personally think Guy wouldn’t understand the concept or the appeal of dancing under the rain until he sees you and is dancing with you and just goes “oh” yknow 😔✊🏼 if you don’t do Guy or aren’t comfortable enough yet you could replace him with Juza/Tasuku
THIS REQUEST WAS EVERYTHING. I've wanted to write Guy for a while so this was absolutely wholesome to do, thank you Ever!
Hope you all enjoy it 💕
One soulful moment it's all it takes (Guy x Reader)
People say monotony kills the heart. Ironically, monotony is what also keeps the heart working.
It wasn’t that Guy enjoyed it per se, it's just that it was proven things got done quicker when you set up a system. It was more productive. More efficient. Waking up early every morning to practice karate was good to improve his health. Making and drinking tea also helped. Going fishing or taking care of Tsukioka’s garden had also become part of what he got used to when he started living in Mankai among other activities.
The only variant he could never seem to grasp was you.
“You should go out more!”
"I believe we are already outside."
"No- I mean, to play around, you know? Enjoy life! Nothing like a good bruise on your leg to remind you that you have a leg."
You always picked on him based on the consistency of his routines, on the rigidness of his answers. And while sometimes Guy had to admit he didn’t quite grasp the full meaning of what you said, he found you captivating, intriguing even.
Everyone around always seemed to have a smile next to you after all, and as you two got closer, Guy found himself wishing he could be half as carefree and adventurous as you.
“Come on!” You made him eat some of the food you had ordered- even though his own plate was more than enough for one person’s fill. “I can’t believe this is not making you smile. If you are not excited when you eat, you are doing something wrong.”
You always loved to try new things, which was why whenever you would suddenly appear at Mankai you would try and drag him all over Veludo. Openminded experiences, you liked to call them. It was also how Guy had gotten used to asking for places others recommended, such as the cat’s café, Veludo main acting street, or this new curry restaurant director and Usui had seemed to enjoy so much lately.
As you finished your meals and paid, you both stepped outside while making light talk. “Ah… that was spicy but delicious! Not Omi’s level though. I’ve only eaten snacks from him but I bet all his food tastes just as good. You guys are lucky.”
“Yes. He is one skilled young man even among other Zahran’s royal court's chefs I know. I have no doubt anyone that would try his cooking would think so as well.”
“Right? Anyway, I didn’t know you could handle spices so well,” you patted his arm happily. Those plates had been no joke, Chikage and Izumi were monsters. “I mean, you finished it all! I believed this was the time I was gonna see you making weird faces."
"Do you want me to?"
"No! I was joking Guy. You always take me too seriously I swear," you laughed as you both left the shopping district.
The winter member nodded, taking a mental note once again. From his early childhood memories he had always been told to be careful about everything, and was made to follow the path everyone told him to. And though there were times when he wanted to step out of the beaten path, he hadn't been much of a rebel- until Citronia left, that is. He would easily put those thoughts aside and go on doing whatever he was supposed to do.
All of a sudden a few drops fell, snapping him back in the present and made him blink surprised at the sky at the unexpected wet contact. He had seen the weathercast that morning over breakfast and it hadn’t said anything about raining.
“We should look for shelter before it becomes heavier.”
“Uh? What are you talking about?”
Guy stopped walking and met your questioning eyes, as if you truly didn’t understand what he had said. People around you both began passing by jogging with jackets, briefcases, or whatever object they might have in hand acting as umbrellas, and for a second he didn’t know how to explain it more clear. “The rain. We will get wet otherwise.”
There was a sound of thunder in the distance, which made people speed up their walking pace. Not you though.
“I know." you shrugged. "Still can’t see the problem.”
As the raindrops started to make their way through you, causing you to get wet, you stepped away from him, welcoming the cool drink from the clouds.
“Y/N? Where are you going?” he called out to you when you started moving around in circles.
The unaware worry tinted in his expression resonated in your mind. In time, you were able to control yourself enough to let out a snort of a laugh. "Nowhere. I'm dancing silly!" you replied, your voice high with joy and arms open up in the sky. "The rain feels good. I love to walk and dance in it. Don’t tell me you’ve never done this."
“But you will get sick.”
“Oh come on, healing rain is real!”
“Is that so.”
“Yeah! It can be physical healing or emotional or whatever you want it to.” You smiled. Your movements were rusty under the slow and endless drizzle, making jumpings and turns here and there. “It washes your sins away.”
Guy kept staring not entirely convinced. As much as he saw you enjoying yourself moving around in the rain, he had seen Tsukioka and a few other members from Mankai get sick just from running under in the rain on their way back home and all in all, he still didn't fully understand the point of what you were doing.
“It doesn’t seem very conclusive.” He looked around, trying to look for any shop that might sell umbrellas. Without any result he turned to you once again, rain getting heavier as you two talked. “If you wish to feel water running under you a shower could work as well, although I admit the space is considerably different if you decided to dance.”
“Oh for the love of-" you ran up to him, grabbing his elbow and forcing him to come out of the somewhat safe roof he had been guarding himself against since you had left him laughing. “Just come here. Now close your eyes and enjoy the music!”
He followed your instructions and stayed in silence for a few seconds, then he opened them. “There’s no music Y/N.”
“Of course there is! Try closing them again and pay attention.”
He followed your suggestion once again.
All was silent as before- All silent save the dripping rain. Then, as the breathful afternoon melted slowly and the cold caress of fresh air lapped up, Guy started to feel the drops around him. And while they were not synchronized, they created a sound worth listening to.
As you had indicated, he tried to let go of his inhibitions, allowing the rain to wash away the thoughts that had been roaming on his mind After a while he opened his eyes slightly, confused at the sudden feeling emerging within him. It was also when he found you still there, not having moved yet, smiling brightly -as the now hidden sun in front of him.
Ah. He didn’t know exactly why or how it had happened, but the connection between you was different from anything he had felt before.
“…I believe I am now listening to the music you spoke of.”
Sometimes one finds joy in the small and simple things. It could be the scent of the rain, the taste of your favorite food... others, it was the sound of a loved one's voice.
“What do you think Guy?”
He never wanted anything so much than to drown in your love and feel the rain, however his eyes trailer over you, before silently stepping back instead. The sudden action made you tilt your head confused. You knew Zahfra wasn't that much of a humid place so it would make sense he might not be as comfortable as it was for other people to stand in the middle of the rain.
“Guy-”
“Y/N-"
You chuckled at how you both said each other names so suddenly. Just like in the movies. “You go first.”
He stared gaze at your figure for a second, before offering his right hand. Rain kept falling under you, no one else in sight. Just you, Guy, and the sound of rain.
“May I have this dance?”
As if it was possible, your eyes lighted up brighter than they had on the whole day, which surprised Guy to an extent. With a beaming smile you nodded, and so he took a step towards you. He wrapped his hands around you and pulled you slightly closer. The thunderbolts made your body shiver while you wrapped your arms around his neck. He could feel your every breath, and with every breath, your own heartbeats pumped faster.
A good lead should be soft yet subtle, stating their intentions by moving themselves, inviting their partners to follow along. Guy was alert, eyes scanning the surroundings ahead of him, watching traffic, other people, but also aware of what was happening right in his arms.
He treated your follow with respect, never forcing any movement. If he led a step or a pattern and you interpreted the movement differently than he had intended, he adapted to you rather than forcing change. He wanted to give you a sense of security, knowing you could fully depend on his lead the way he had learned to dance, however after a few clumsy fails followed by your laugh, he soon discovered it didn't matter how you both danced, just that you did.
“I think you know me better than I know myself.” He broke the silence after a while. You smiled.
“I’m not going to deny that.”
“I wish I could repay you for that, somehow.”
Laughing again you adjusted yourself so you could look up at him. His astonishingly beautiful green orbs finding yours once again, filled with overwhelming love and safety. “You are doing it right now.”
The corner of his eyes softened.
There were many things he had tried to chase away. Things he couldn’t remember, and others he didn’t let himself think about. Right now he was living, and nothing else seemed to matter anymore. He allowed you to take him anywhere you pleased on that made-up dance floor under the rain. You went right, he went right. You sped up, he sped up. Having you there, next to him like this, made him think about just how lucky he had become.
“…You are beautiful,” he whispered, touching your cheek with care, clearing the strands of wet hair that had gotten in the way.
You held on to him tighter.
“You are beautiful too.” You smiled, noses touching. Rain still falling over you both. “Didn't I tell you? That dancing in the rain deserved getting a cold.”

What if...? Part 6
Again, this one goes out to you beautiful enablers! You who comment, reblog and are along for this journey through AU land! I see you, I appreciate you and you make my day :D
So, uh, a quick question: Which do you, read readers, prefer; either one giant part 7 or more regular sized part 7 + a part 8... What’s your vote?
-
What if Dulsissia hadn’t died, what if she had grabbed Corin and fled? What if she met Davarax? What if…
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Part 5
Part 6
“I want you to train me. Teach me how to fight.” Dulsissia blurts it out as she settles herself down next to where Davarax is sitting on the floor with his blaster meticulously laid out in pieces on a blanket in front of him to do maintenance on the different parts.
Davarax freezes for several seconds and then he cautiously puts the pieces he was holding down and he looks over at her. “I, uh, I’m not sure that’s a good idea.”
“Why not?” Dulsissia frowns. He doesn’t think she can handle it?
“I’m sure we can ask Decco to train you.” Davarax offers.
“Bee-cause you don’t want to.” Dulsissia draws out the word, not entirely sure whether to be hurt or offended, but right now she’s leaning towards both.
Davarax lifts a placating hand, sighing. “It’s not that I don’t want to. I just… I don’t think it would be a good idea.”
Had it been any other man, Dulsissia would have gone on a rant by now, but she knows Davarax wouldn’t say no if he didn’t have a good reason. “Would you mind telling why not?”
His hand slowly sinks down again and he makes a couple of efforts at starting a sentence, but in the end; Davarax’ shoulders sag slightly with defeat. “It’s just… not.”
“Why not.” She insists. Fine, Dulsissia can ask Decco, but she will at least know why the most skilled fighter in the Covert refuses to train her. He’d even called her Mandokarla once. “You don’t think I’m Mandokarla any more?”
When had she broken his faith in her? When she’d panicked over that storm trooper? Was that it? Mandalorians aren’t allowed to show fear?
“You are!” Davarax blurts out. “You definitely are. Mandokarla. You are.” He then sighs again and gestures faintly towards himself. “It’s me, okay? I’m the problem.”
“You?” She narrows her eyes suspiciously. How can he be the problem? He’s their best fighter.
“I’m too…” Davarax searches for the right word. “...invested.” He finishes, somewhat lamely, and his hand just drops to his lap.
Dulsissia snorts. “You’re training my son, your own kids, but you can’t train me?”
“You’re different.” Davarax mumbles, sounding awkward.
“Nonsense.” Dulsissia inches closer. “I want to learn and I want to learn from the best. Please? I’ll be a good girl and do everything the teacher says.”
Davarax makes an odd sound deep in his throat.
“I know you are busy and you’ve already helped me so much and it is incredibly selfish of me to put another burden on your shoulders,” Dulsissia confesses, feeling the taste of shame again, “but I trust you. And… I like spending time with you. No offense to Decco, she has been wonderful, but she’s not exactly… cheerful. Or especially fond of conversing. She threatened to glue my mouth shut yesterday and I honestly think she wasn’t joking.”
Davarax chuckles, sounding both resigned and fondly amused. “She wasn’t.” Then he hangs his helmet low for a moment or two before sighing yet again and looking over at Dulsissia. “Okay.”
Letting out a low squeal of delight, Dulsissia bumps her shoulder against his. “Thank you! You won’t regret this.”
Davarax makes a sound as if he’s not entirely convinced about that before he picks up the blaster pieces again and continues his work. “Tomorrow. Thirty minutes before I teach the kids.”
“Thirty minutes?” The man pushes the children far harder than that. “That’s it?”
“One, it’s your first lesson. We’ll be going over basics. Two,” Davarax’ t-visor turns to look at her, “I thought you were going to do what the teacher told you to do?”
Dulsissia puts on her sweetest smile and nods. “Thirty minutes. Before the kids. Yes, sir!”
Davarax sighs, how many times is that now in such a short while, and turns back to his blaster.
-
She meets up a little early, eager and wearing her finest skirt, ready to impress and become the best student Davarax has ever had. Dulsissia straightens her spine and gives him a bright smile when Davarax enters the training room.
He comes to a halt when he sees her, then clears his throat and continues to walk over to her. “You’re early. Good.”
Dulsissia tilts her head, still smiling. “Ready for training. As you can see.”
Davarax makes a non-committing hum.
She can’t keep it up any longer. Dulsissia reaches down, undoes the two buttons and lets her skirt fall to the floor to reveal the far more practical pants she’s wearing underneath. “Ha! Got you!”
He does the Davaraxian huff of a laugh and rewards her with a faint nod. “Funny. Very funny.”
Stepping out of the skirt before picking it up to fold it, Dulsissia rubs her successful prank in with a smug cackle. “I can’t believe you weren’t going to say anything. You’re so sweet.”
“I can’t believe that you don’t think I won’t get back at you for calling me out on it.” Davarax replies, crossing his arms and tilting his helmet in a challenging way.
Dulsissia grins, puts the folded skirt by the wall and trots over to stand in front of him without a hint of fear. “Whatever you got, my good Lord Davarax, I can take it.”
Davarax just looks down at her, breathes, and for some reason; Dulsissia’s heart does a flip.
Then the Mandalorian suddenly unfolds his arms, clears his throat and steps away to take up a position she’s seen the children start the day with.
“We’ll start with the basics. Just the basics. It’s going to be harder for you than the children because you’ve grown accustomed to your body in a way they haven’t had the time to yet, and you’re going to have to unlearn a bit of that plus replace some old reflexes with new ones.” Davarax says.
Dulsissia forces herself to focus and tries to copy the stance. “I’m ready to sweat. Show me.”
Davarax glances over at her, she can feel his gaze slide over her, then he nods.
Yeah, okay, Dulsissia is starting to understand why he’d been hesitant to agree to teach her. He’s an excellent teacher, explains things so well, but she’d failed to take into consideration how every single touch of his hands on her, despite the gloves, despite the layer of clothing, results in flares of heat, moments of complete distraction and a flush to her face that has nothing to do with the strain of the exercises.
She had complained about thirty minutes not being long enough, but after twenty five of them; Dulsissia resolutely sits down and lets out a loud, unladylike groan at the ceiling. Who could have known copying moves that Davarax makes seem easy would be this hard? And while Dulsissia had not considered herself to be out of shape, this has left her completely exhausted.
“Still five minutes left.” Davarax points out, standing next to her, sounding smug.
Dulsissia decides to wipe that smugness off his face. Fast as lightning, she flings herself over and grabs a hold of his lower leg with both of her hands, aiming to bring him down to her level, and she yanks with all of her might.
Nothing. It’s like trying to pull at an AT-AT. And Davarax just looks down at her.
Groaning, Dulsissia lets go and flops over to lie on her back. “It was worth a shot.”
Laughing, a low, warm sound, Davarax eases himself down to sit next to her. “It was cute.”
Cute? Dulsissia glares over at him. And before he realizes his mistake, she launches herself at him, climbs into his lap and shoves at his shoulders. Maybe she couldn’t topple him over on his feet, but surely she can knock him over like this?
No.
She’s not entirely sure how he does it, he moves too fast, he’s too strong, but suddenly she’s on her back on the floor and he’s hovering over her. His hands are pinning her wrists to the floor and a quick tug tells her she has absolutely no chance of getting loose. Dulsissia grins. “Also worth a shot.”
Davarax hums, deliberately not to touching her with anything but his grip on her wrists. “Be careful with your shots, Dulcy. You don’t want to end up like this with the enemy.”
Her face burns. She’s suddenly so very aware of him. “It doesn’t feel all that bad, to be honest.”
It feels like all of the oxygen in the room abruptly disappears, gravity gives up and the temperature sky-rockets. Neither of them move. The tension keeps growing and then…
Davarax looks over at the door and scrambles away from her half a second before the children come stomping into the room, chattering and eagerly anticipating today’s lesson.
Dulsissia closes her eyes and let out a long exhale, just as she hears;
“Mom…?”
-
It’s Din’s birthday. Dulsissia had overheard it by accident when Din had been talking to her son and he’d mentioned how he was counting down the years to when he would finally be allowed to put on the helmet.
She’d asked when he was having his birthday celebration so she could get a present for her son to give him and felt no small amount of horror when Din said there wasn’t going to be one. His parents had said there was no point so he assumed that meant no celebration.
Well, he was wrong about that.
As Din is more comfortable there, she arranges the birthday celebration in her and Corin’s room and invites the rest of Davarax’ children, plus the man himself. It’s a small thing, compared to the parties she used to throw, but it is a huge deal to Din. He shies a bit away from being the centre of attention, but with Davarax and Corin both encouraging him; Din ends up actually enjoying it a little.
And it is all worth it when a red-faced and awkward Din gives Dulsissia by his own free will a quick hug at the end of the day.
Dulsissia then has to hide a smile when Paz ‘innocently’ mentions how he has his birthday exactly one standard week after Din’s while they are seated at the table and devouring the sweets she’s made. (She’s getting pretty good at this baking thing. The fighting? Less so, but she’s improving.)
Paz’ father has a big celebration for his day, but while Dulsissia mostly observes it from the outside, she can’t help but to notice how, while it is in his name, very little is focused on Paz himself. It’s mostly about his father, adult food and strong spirits. Not much for a twelve year old to enjoy.
So she throws him a party in her quarters with the other children and their teacher like she’d done for Din. And Dulsissia feels her heart break yet again when, at the end of the day, Paz hugs her so tight he almost squeezes the air out of her.
Standing next to her, Davarax sighs as he watches Paz leave with the other kids in tow. “I didn’t really celebrate my own birthday much so I never thought about theirs. I let them down.”
“From what I’ve seen,” Dulsissia replies with a bittersweet feeling, “you are the only person in this place who hasn’t let them down.”
Davarax shakes his head. “Not entirely true, but thank you.”
She turns to face him, places her hand on the breastplate where she’d feel his heart if not for the armor. “You took them under your wings when everyone had given up on them. You didn’t just give them the abilities to survive that they are going to need, but your attention and kindness as well. You are those children’s entire world. And I don’t think they could have chosen a better man.”
Davarax reaches up and covers her hand with his. “Dulcy… Do you know what a kov’nyn is?”
She shakes her head. Her heart is going faster and faster.
“Find out.”
“How?”
Davarax does his trademark huff-laughter. “You’re a clever girl. You can do it.” He then lets go, says his goodbye to Corin, who sits on the bed and watches them with a far-too-knowing grin on his face, and gives a final bow to Dulsissia before leaving as well.
Flustered and a little breathless, Dulsissia walks over to clean up the last traces of the dinner.
“Mom.” Corin says.
“Mmh?” She replies, wondering if she can ask Decco what a kov’nyn is or maybe just try to find some sort of dictionary so she won’t have to trouble her all the time.
“Can we ask Din to stay here with us?”
Dulsissia gathers up the plates. “Baby, I don’t think Din’s parents would like that.” Unfortunately.
“He says they wouldn’t mind.” Corin replies. “Also, when you and Davarax become girlfriend and boyfriend, can I call him ‘dad’?”
Dulsissia straightens with a jolt and her face flares up so badly it hurts. “Go brush your teeth, baby.”
“But-”
“Go brush your teeth!”
-
The Tribe doesn’t have an abundance of datapads or old fashioned books. Most of their teachings are done verbally, but Decco is kind enough to ask around and two days later, a Mandalorian in an orange armor agrees to borrow Dulsissia something similar to a dictionary.
Too curious to wait until she is back in her room where Corin is getting ready for bed while she rushed out to get the book, Dulsissia stops in the middle of a hallway to look up the word. She’s dying to know what Davarax had hinted at, what he was trying to tell her and wanted her to know.
Turning the pages, Dulsissia finally finds the word. ‘Kov’nyn’! There it is!
A headbutt.
Dulsissia blinks. What? Excuse…? She vividly remembers the sight and not to mention the sound of Davarax headbutting that poor Mandalorian during his training and her eyes widen with startled surprise. What?! Was he going to do that to her during their next training? Oh, nonono, no way.
Just as she’s about to slam the book shut and declare that Davarax had been right; Decco might be a better teacher after all, Dulsissia almost accidentally reads more of the text.
Or: A kiss between couples when wearing armor.
Now she does slam the book shut and she’s finding it a bit hard to catch her breath.
Oh.
“I heard you were looking for a book on Mando’a.” A voice says behind her.
Making a startled sound, clutching the book close, Dulsissia spins around and is even more startled when she sees the golden armor and fur cloak.
It’s her. The leader.
“Yes. I, uhm,” Dulsissia awkwardly pushes a lock of her hair behind her ear, “I thought it was about time I learned a little more about… Mando’a. You have all been so kind to me.”
The leader looks at her and her body language is as impossible to read as her facial expression hidden by her helmet.
Dulsissia tries to smile.
“I also hear your son is making good progress in his training.”
Nodding, Dulsissia tries to hide how nervous she’s feeling.
“On his travels, Davarax has brought back many Foundlings. That is his Way and that is The Way.” The leader says. “But he has never brought back an outsider.”
Dulsissia loses the smile and she feels her shoulders sagging a little under the heavy weight of shame. “He… He was kind enough to save me from some horrible men.”
“Mmh.” Is the flat reply. “Are you going to take the Creed?”
Surprised, Dulsissia struggles to find the right answer. She’s been so busy trying to deal with the present that she hasn’t really planned her future. “I… I don’t know.”
That does not seem to impress the leader of the Mandalorians. “Then find your Way. Before you ruin his.”
Watching the Mandalorian walk away, Dulsissia isn’t entirely sure how she feels about this conversation. She’s getting the distinct feeling that this was a message for her to stay away from Davarax, but why? Surely the leader of a warrior tribe does not care about the love life of one of her soldiers? And what gives her the right? Rude.
Frowning, Dulsissia starts walking back to her room while the thoughts keep churning in her brain.
She doesn’t know what she’s going to do, not even when she walks over to Davarax’ door instead of her own and finds herself knocking on it. Dulsissia waits until he opens the door, says her name in a slightly confused tone, and then… she drops the book, reaches up with both hands to take a hold of the top of his breastplate and promptly pulls him down to thump her forehead to his helmet.
Ow.
Letting go, Dulsissia takes a step back and rubs her forehead. One eye closed, she stares at him in confusion. “I think you people got kissing a bit wrong. It’s not supposed to hurt, you know?”
Stunned, Davarax finally straightens back up and reaches out a hand to take a hold of her upper arm in case she falls over. “I don’t… That’s not how…” The Davaraxian laughter huff appears before he urges her to take the step back to him. “Can I show you?”
Dulsissia moves closer to him willingly enough, but she keeps rubbing her forehead and hesitates. “I’m not sure if I want another concussion.” Maybe she isn’t Mandokarla after all? She prefers softer things than headbutts from her date.
“Trust me?” Davarax asks in a quiet tone.
Sighing, Dulsissia lowers her arm. “Fine. But if I am knocked unconscious, you’re in charge of making breakfast to Corin tomorrow as an apology.”
“Deal.” Davarax murmurs, but in an absent way. His hands are already sliding up to cup her face and she shivers at the memory of them without gloves. “Close your eyes, Dulcy.”
Swallowing hard, she does. Suddenly she doesn’t care if he headbutts her into tomorrow as long as he doesn’t take his hands off her or stop talking.
“It’s mean to be gentle…” Davarax says, so soft and smooth, his hands tilting her head backwards, just a little, but enough so her body automatically arches against his. “It’s meant to be warm…” One hand moves to cup the back of her head, the other slides down to her lower back. “It’s longing…” Smooth beskar gently meets her now very warm skin and he eases her body close, so very close, until she’s firmly up against him with a very strong arm around her waist. “and it’s giving.” He tightens his grip around her.
Reaching up, Dulsissia’s fingers dig into the fabric on his upper arms, desperate to hold on to something so she doesn’t just swoon in his arms like a bad theatre actress.
Davarax lets out a soft exhale, it’s sounds almost like relief, and she can feel the muscles in his arm tightening a little more, his hand cupping her head and holding her there, as if she still isn’t close enough for him.
Time stands still. All she feels is heat, him and her own frantic pulse.
Breathless, far too warm for any decent explanation, Dulsissia reluctantly opens her eyes when he pulls away and shivers with disappointment when he lets go of everything but her hand.
“That’s what it’s meant to be like.” Davarax says.
“Oh.” Dulsissia manages. Okay, maybe everyone else had something to learn from Mandalorians.
It takes a visible effort for Davarax to make himself let go of her hand, for a second she can see the twitch in his shoulders when he stops himself from pulling her close again, but he lets go and now he is the one to take a step away. “Good night, Dulcy.”
“Good night.” She whispers, and it takes a visible effort for her to turn around, pick up the book with numb fingers and go over to her own room.
-
Stupid Mandalorians and their stupid headbutt kissing! Now Dulsissia can’t even look over at Davarax without feeling her face burn or be near him without having her heart to backflips all around her ribcage. This is making her life very frustrating!
And her only comfort is suspecting that Davarax isn’t faring much better either. Judging from how he walked into that table yesterday when she stretched out.
The training? Oh, it’s the sweetest torture ever.
She’s on her way to pick up Corin at Din’s room when a familiar piercing way of screaming catches her attention and Dulsissia doesn’t hesitate to run towards the sound.
Inside what looks to be school room with several pillows on the floor placed around a larger one. A group of scared children are huddled together in one corner while a Mandalorian who looks to be the teacher is restraining a fully feral Raga, with one big hand gripping her arm and the other hand is locked around her neck and preventing her from moving her head.
“What do you think you’re doing?” Dulsissia shouts, stalking in and shoving the Mandalorian away.
Once again surprise is on her side and the Mandalorian stumbles away, releasing the little girl and Dulsissia does not hesitate to crouch down and wrap her arms protectively around the flailing child. Pain flares when sharp teeth dig into Dulsissia’s arm and latch on.
“She’s completely feral!” The teacher shouts, pointing at Raga. “I’ve taught children, youngsters and foundlings alike, for decades and I’ve never met a child that feral! She’s hopeless!”
“What do you expect when you restrain her like a rancor? I’d bite you too!” Dulsissia shouts back at him. She gets up, hoists Raga in her arms, ignores the pain of the teeth still digging into her and marches out of the room with her.
She’s halfway to her quarters, Raga still hasn’t let go but at least she has stopped flailing and screaming and is just quietly twitching so that’s something, when a Mandalorian comes trotting with Davarax on his tail. They both come to a halt when they see Dulsissia carrying Raga.
“I was just coming to…” Davarax points helplessly in the direction of the classroom. “They said she…” He sighs at the sight and reaches out towards Dulsissia’s arm. “Here, I’ll try to-”
“No.” Dulsissia snaps, turning away to shield her arm and Raga from him. “I got her. I’m taking her to my room. You go tell Corin, he’s with Din, that I’m going to be late, and then you go get us Paz.”
Davarax seems a little surprised, but eventually he gives a nod and Dulsissia continues her march back to her room, giving a quick couple of pets to Raga’s back as she’s still twitching.
Once they are inside in the safety of her and Corin’s room, Dulsissia walks over to sit down on the bed. Raga is a bit larger than Corin, her thin frame doesn’t make her much heavier, but she’s taller and it takes a little arranging of her skinny legs and arms. Once they are settled, Dulsissia continues to run her hand up and down Raga’s back and just waits.
To her surprise, Raga lets go of her arm. And a few seconds after that, the girl quietly mumbles; “M’ sorry…”
Smiling, Dulsissia continues to stroke her back. “It’s okay, baby. I know you didn’t mean to.”
“He said I had to sit in the corner because I threw some thing at him.” Raga mumbles. “But I didn’t. It wasn’t me!” She starts to get agitated again. “I told him it wasn’t me and he said he was going to tell my parents I was a liar and have them punish me!”
Forcing her own anger away, Dulsissia strokes the girl’s back again. “I’m sorry he did that to you, sweetie. I’m sorry he didn’t believe you. That was wrong of him.”
“It wasn’t me…” Raga whispers.
“I believe you.” Dulsissia reassures her. And for the next ten minutes, she just holds her close, strokes her back and pets her hair. And anger quietly simmers inside.
Finally Davarax arrives and in his footsteps, Paz follows. He instantly darts by his teacher at the sight of Raga and the girl doesn’t hesitate to twist around to reach out to him.
Dulsissia gets up from the bed and watches Paz take her seat, pulling Raga close and lets her curl up on his lap. She almost disappears in his embrace. That boy is going to end up a giant if he doesn’t stop growing soon and yet he treats his friend with such mesmerizing gentleness.
“Your arm…” Davarax asks quietly, looking over.
“It’s fine.” Dulsissia replies. It aches like crazy and there will definitely be bruising, but that is not what is important right now. She looks over at him. “They called her a liar. They were holding her down like a rabid loth-cat. And they are surprised she bites?”
Davarax shakes his head. “I know…” He sounds pained and resigned. “The four of them are marked as troublemakers. If something goes wrong, if something could have gone wrong, they’re always blamed. And I can’t stop it.”
Dulsissia’s eyes narrow. “Stay here with the kids.”
“Where are you going?”
“I have to talk to someone.”
-
Dulsissia raps on the door with urgent haste and this time she doesn’t wait for the drowsy Mandalorian to speak before she asks; “Is he in?”
He is.
She knocks and then barges in to the room, startling Barthor into a defensive stance. Dulsissia ignores the tiny fists. “What I’m about to ask you can never be repeated. Do you understand?”
Barthor stares at her, slowly lowering his fists. “What?”
Dulsissia stalks closer and he backs up a step so she crouches down for them to be the same height. “I need you to do something for me and no one can ever find out.”
Barthor’s dark eyes slide from side to side, as if checking for hidden cameras. “Do… what?”
“I want you to make me a stink bomb.”
Snorting a laugh, Barthor shakes his head and walks over to sit on his bed. “I don’t know how to-”
“You know.” Dulsissia interrupts him. “Will you make me one?”
Barthor frowns, now suspicious. “Why? What are you going to do with it?”
Dulsissia raises an eyebrow. “I want to place it in the room belonging to man who teaches Raga’s class.”
That seems to make Barthor even more suspicious. “Why?”
“Because he’s a bully to Raga.”
Something flickers in Barthor’s eyes. “He was mean to Raga again?”
Again. The word hurts Dulsissia’s soul. If that man had been mean to her son, he wouldn’t have had the chance to do it ‘again’. She nods.
Barthor stares down at that floor for a little while, then he jumps to his feet and sighs. “Okay, give me ten minutes.”
It takes him eight to finish it. But he insists on joining her when she goes to plant the contraption.
“You might do it wrong.” Barthor informs her, gingerly easing it into a small bag.
Dulsissia rolls her eyes but follows him when he marches off towards their unsuspecting victim.
Once there, it’s clear it won’t be as easy as they hoped. The man is in his room.
“You distract him, I’ll plant it.” Barthor declares.
Dulsissia nods. “Be careful.”
Barthor smirks. And they go to work.
Knocking on the door, Dulsissia waits for the man to open it and then begins lecturing him on all the wrong ways to handle a sensitive child, not letting the man get a word in, and she barely catches the shadow of little Barthor sneaking by them and into the room.
She keeps her rant going, the man is too surprised and startled to do much than come with feeble objections, and the second Dulsissia sees the shadow sneak out by the man’s legs again, she finishes her speech.
“Good day to you, sir!”
Marching down the hallway, she rounds a corner and finds Barthor there. He looks up at her with a hint of respect.
“Not bad.” He says with grudging respect.
“You too.” Dulsissia replies, reaching out a hand and shakes his when he takes it. “But remember, no one can know.”
Barthor grins. “Don’t worry. No one is going to be able to to prove anything.” “Good.”
When the stink spreads in the man’s room, Dulsissia and Barthor has picked up Corin, and somehow Din ends up tagging along, and they are all safely in Dulsissia and Corin’s room, along with Paz, Raga and Davarax. Eating cookies.
And Barthor was right; nobody is ever able to prove who was behind it.
-
“Mom, are you sure we can’t ask Din to stay here?” Corin asks one morning.
Sighing, Dulsissia looks over at her sweet son. “I told you, baby. I don’t think his parents will like that. Is there something wrong? Is that why you keep asking?”
Corin, sitting on her bed, shrugs and looks down. “He doesn’t like it there.”
Clearly, as the child spends most of his time with them rather than his parents, but Dulsissia isn’t sure how Mandalorian adoption works. She’s fairly certain it would be frowned upon if she just started hoarding children from them. Otherwise, she would probably have had bunk beds and five children in this room. “I’m sorry to hear that, Corin. Has he tried to talk to his parents?”
Corin shakes his head. “He doesn’t like talking to them.”
Dulsissia has a sneaking suspicion that Din doesn’t like much, except Davarax and her son. At least he has excellent taste. “Do you think he’d like me to talk to them?”
Corin shakes his head again. “He won’t like it if he knew I’d told you.”
Figures. Dulsissia sighs. “Then I don’t know what we can do, baby. They are his parents. We are guests here.”
“Well,” Corin looks over at her, “at least he can come and visit as much as he likes?”
“Absolutely.” Dulsissia confirms. “And I’ll ask if he can stay over some time. Would that help?”
Her beautiful boy lights up with delight. “Really? You’re the best, mom!”
“Remember you said that when I tell you to clean up your toys.” Dulsissia declares.
Corin laughs.
It’s such a wonderful sound. He never used to laugh. He’s always been such a silent child, like Din, but the longer they have stayed here at the Covert; the more Corin has come out of his shell.
He no longer cowers behind her leg when they are in the common room with the other Mandalorians. He still flinches when someone raises their voice, but at least he doesn’t go pale and look like he’s about to pass out. He has friends. And there is a father figure whom Corin greets with joy and looks forward to spending time with, unlike his biological father.
Losing her dresses and servants is a price she’s more than willing to pay to see her son this happy.
There is just thing that could ruin everything. And considering it’s not just harmless flirting any more, Dulsissia decides it is time to tell Davarax.
She asks Decco to look after her son, which she grudgingly agrees to despite meaning the boy is old enough to look after himself, and then Dulsissia asks Davarax to meet her in Din’s hiding space.
“Well,” Davarax say as he steps over a piece of engine and barely manages to make his way over to where she’s sitting on a sofa pillow without falling or knocking himself unconscious against some metal part sticking out amidst the debris they are surrounded by, “this is romantic.”
“Sorry.” Dulsissia says, too nervous to be amused by the graceless way he tumbles down on the pillow next to hers. “I just wanted us to be able to talk in private.”
The tone of her voice makes him sit up and pay attention. “What’s wrong?”
“I want to tell you something.” Dulsissia says, sighing. “And I’m not sure how you’re going to react.”
“You can tell me anything.”
Oh, how she hopes that is true. Dulsissia takes a deep breath, looks down at her own hands as she wrings them nervously in her lap. She smiles a little when his hand moves over to cover them and stops her from hurting herself. Okay. Here goes. “I told you my name is Dulcy.”
“Yes?”
“It’s not.” She glances over at him. “Well, it kind of is. It used to be my nickname. My name is Dulsissia.”
Davarax gives a faint shrug. “Okay?”
“Dulsissia Motti. The man looking for me, his name is Macero Valentis. He is Corin’s father.” Dulsissia braces herself, turns her gaze down to his gloved hand over both of hers and dreads the moment it will withdraw.
Davarax’ voice is carefully neutral. “If you’re a Motti, surely your family will help you get rid of Valentis?”
Dulsissia’s smile is bitter and it hurts. “No. I stupidly defied them to marry him and I’ve been told that I have to lie in the bed I made.”
Davarax hesitates. “Would you like to go back your family?”
Looking over at the man by her side, unable to stop the tears from welling up in her eyes, Dulsissia shakes her head. “No. And they’re not my family. They don’t know what the words means.”
Davarax’ hand withdraws from hers, but only so he can gently cup the side of her face. “Mottis and Valentis, they don’t scare me if that’s what you were worried about.”
“Kind of.” Dulsissia admits, a tear slipping from her eye. “I have seen the destruction they can cause. I don’t want to bring it here.”
“We’re Mandalorians.” Davarax says, a slight grin in his voice. “We thrive on battle. It’s in our blood. And they would find us a lot more dangerous than any other opponent they’ve been up against in the past.” His thumb caresses her skin, wiping away her tear, and his voice softens. “They don’t matter. They’re in the past. You are here now. You’re Dulcy. And Corin is safe. You both are.”
It might not be Mandokarla, but Dulsissia doesn’t care; she leans over and he wraps his arms around her.
“As long as I breathe,” Davarax mumbles, holding her close, “you and Corin will always be safe.”

Reading your comments and asks have meant more to me then you could possibly know. Happy Howling 🐺
Chapter 9 (part 2) / Masterlist

The chill tickled his senses and that was what woke Steve up that morning, his hand sweeping over the bed to find you not there, but your warmth was still clinging to the bed sheets. You haven’t been up for long. Rolling to his stomach, he moved to resettle, listening for where you might be in the cabin. But all was silent, all he could pick up was the drip-drip of the coffee maker in the kitchen, so you had been there just before, there was no rustle on the couch no sounds of your feet springing off the cabin's wood floor though. But the heavy autumn air did draw his attention to the wide-open door to the deck. Rolling up to rub at his face to waken further, Steve leaned down and grabbed sleep pants nearby to tug them on. He advanced on the deck and took a look around.
The deck was frost-covered, as well as the towering pines housing the migrating songbirds sheltering overnight and that one grey squirrel that seemed to claim the back deck as his since you started feeding them. Steve’s eyes scanned for you, and the Wolf immediately picked up your warm scent, eyes dropping to see where the soles of your feet and toes had melted a trail across the frost covered deck. Following it, he went down the stairs to the lower deck that stretched out over the lake, and there you were, at the very end with an afghan wrapped around your shoulder, legs peeking out from underneath it. Steve could see where you were arched onto your toes to keep the rest of your feet from touching the frost covered wood. Getting a quicker spring to his step, Steve approached you from behind.
“Y/N, what are you doing out here so early? You must be freezing.” His Wolf growled in agreement when you looked over your shoulder. Even as cold as you looked, your eyes were bright with excitement. “I heard geese overhead, and I wanted to see them flying south.” Once he reached you, his arms went around your waist and drew you back so that you would lean into him, your feet moving to step on top of his to protect them from the frostbitten boards and the fog coming off the lake so early in the morning. His head tilted up to look in the clear blue sky above, something about the cold made it look sharper. Sometimes he forgot that son of a bitch Pierce kept you locked up so long in his compound, like an animal in a zoo.
You missed out on the way their world would shift between warm sunshine filled lazy days to everything preparing for a long sleep. The woods were now constantly rustling with animals seeking food to store away, leaves windblown loose to swirl in patterns before falling to the forest floor to provide shelter for the tree roots. Overhead the sky would be swarmed with birds, quick off the wing as they left for winter bound destinations. Ice would soon form on the lake edges, sending the lake dwellers down into the depths to wait out the winter. And right now, your head tipped back to watch the obnoxious geese as the massive birds flew in their arrow path, carrying them out of sight.
“Winter will soon be here,” Steve said with a smile, for it was his favorite time of year. As wonderful as all the others were, the snow brought a serene calmness to The Pack. Letting the Wolves loose for days to run across the snow. It was a time his Beast was most at home in the world. The biting winds and harsh cold he was made for. While the forest snapped from the intense ice and cold, he tracked through it, laying claim to all that was his and reminding nearby packs that a strong Alpha and his wolves claimed this territory. Then for his human side, he had a warm cabin, and now his Little One filling his home and his bed. Steve finally felt that maybe things were falling into place.
You turned to face him, wrinkling your nose at him. “You know who else will be here soon ? Ross.” You reminded him with a worried look and Steve gave a soft growl at the man’s name, a pain in his ass if there ever was one. He had put him coming off for well over the past couple months since you two had returned from Wakanda. But Tony finally pushed him for this meeting, to go over what had actually happened to Pierce’s pack, and You. Pack on pack violence wasn’t tolerated among the council, supposedly. So Steve needed to explain his reasons for attacking. It was all bullshit, considering what you went through alone.
“Don’t remind me Little One.” Steve gave a huff, warm breath washing over your face as his head dropped, burying his face in your neck, inhaling deeply. “The sooner he leaves the better. Come on, now my feet are cold.” He chuckled and drew you away, and back up the stairs towards the house once more.
The morning was a bit more tense than usual. Steve was quiet, you felt like his concentration was discussing matters with his Wolf, knowing he would have to keep himself under control with the Alphas coming into his territory. Initially, he was going to refuse this meeting, but Tony convinced him that it would be a show of good faith to the council if he allowed them access and actually explained what happened. The ex Pierce pack now belonged to Caine, who told the members the council sent what happened already. But Ross couldn’t let it go. Wanting to still hear from Steve. Finally, the Alpha relented, unsure if it was entirely the right thing, but it was done with. He wasn’t one to back down from his word.
“You still going up to the yard?” You asked cautiously, knowing Steve was a bit all over the place, and his head lifted at your voice, checking his watch.
“Yea, guess I better get up there if I want to get at least one truck off to the mill.” He drained his mug and set it in the sink, grabbing his jacket as he drew up to you. “Shoot me a text if anything happens while I’m up the mountain.” His fingers grasped your chin and placed a kiss on your lips, you nodded with an encouraging smile.
“Of course Steve.” You nudged at him and tilted for one more coffee stained kiss from him, and when he left, you listened to his heavy footfalls take him down the porch and then moments later one of the pickups at the garage start-up. Once he was gone, you moved to settle on the couch, pulling your phone out to call Natasha. This had become the morning routine, once Steve headed out, you checked in with the Red Wolf.
After a few moments, Natasha picked up, you could see here setting her phone up on a nightstand before going back to packing up a duffel bag.
“Hey, you coming home for a bit?” you asked hopefully. She had been gone since she left you and Steve in Wakanda, and only heard from her now and then till you started to actively video chat her once a day. If she would pick up the phone that was. Some days when she answered it would be from a car while driving, a motel room, middle of the street. And the days she didn't, you weren't sure if you wanted to know where she was holed up in her search for the missing pack members.
“No, not yet, I picked up another lead last night, and about to go check it out.”
“Natasha, Steve wouldn't be upset if you came home. It's been weeks and every trail you come across leads to a dead end.” You say into your phone while propping it on the coffee table.
“No, I'm sure of it this time. He really fits Bucky’s description. Tall, dark hair, slight limp to his walk. Sounded like he passed through town.” Natasha sounded hopeful. So many times Natasha was sure she finally found Bucky, and it always led to a dead end.
“Was there anyone else with him?” You questioned, and her face got a bit crestfallen, shaking it slowly.
“No, nothing about the others. Has Laura said anything about Clint contacting her?”
Another shake of the head no. “Nothing, no one has seemed to hear anything. Steve’s even been reaching out to other packs. Someone named Fury is coming soon, he works for the Council, and is going to try to help figure out where they went.”
Natasha’s green eyes widened a bit. “Fury? Well damn, Uh, how did Steve feel about that?” your eyes narrowed at your packmate, yes you were still fairly new, and was reminded of that in moments like these.
“From what I understand, Steve called him himself. Why? What do I not know?” You questioned, and Natasha shrugged.
“You know Steve, he's not on board with the whole Wolf Packs need to be “policed” like the council wants to do. But Fury, he's one of the better ones. Kinda walks his own line, you know? Steve worked with him way before he was an Alpha, at an agency called Shield.”
This piqued your interest, even your Little Wolf stirred, cause Steve rarely talked about his past. “What was Shield?”
Natasha searched the drawers one last time while she remained talking. “Oh it was Wolves trained in special skills, usually combative and logistics. They would be dispatched into problem areas for wolves and humans alike, working with the military. Bucky was a part of it as well. Their team was called the Howling Commandos.” Natasha snapped the drawers shut, and went to sit on the bed, picking up the phone. “Course this was way back when. I'm a bit surprised Steve hasn’t talked about it?”
“No, but honestly Steve doesn't talk much about his past.” You worried your lip a bit and the Little Wolf brushed against your mind.
<He will talk about it when he's ready.>
Natasha gave a shrug. “He will sometime, Steve’s time with his ex wasn’t easy. He probably just wants to forget some of that. With your help.” Natasha smirked at you, and you gave her a roll of your eyes, your Little Wolf snickering in agreement with your friend. “Have you thought about making it all official?” She eased out the question, and you wish you could give a resounding yes. You had considered asking Steve many times about it since you two have returned home.
But something held you back, the idea of being connected to someone mind and body scared you in a way that seemed so unreasonable considering you and your Little Wolf knew you wouldn't ever want another Mate. Steve assured you many times that he would share that bond with you, but only when you asked for it, and never pushed or made you feel guilty like you should ask. Plus the way you and Steve were right now, it was comfortable and content, you hated the thought of asking for more and ruining the rhythm of happiness you found with each other, even though in Wakanda you were more than ready.
“I know Steve would the second I asked him, it's me waiting. After living with Pierce for so long, Nat honestly it scares me. If Steve connected, I would belong to him. I know he wouldn’t do anything I wasn't okay with, but knowing he could. Fuck that just scares me.”
“Y/N, does he even know you feel this way?” Natasha asked softly and you shook your head. “Talk to him Y/N, Steve will want to know what you are thinking.”
Your Little Wolf curled around in your mind, growling softly. <She’s right, we should communicate with our Alpha.>
“Think about it Y/N, you open up, maybe Steve will as well.” Natahsa grabbed her duffel and shouldered it. “Listen, I will be home soon, okay? Don’t worry about me, I'm used to being out on my own quite a bit.”
“Doesn't mean we don’t still worry.” you chuckled softly and gave a wave into the phone screen. “Talk to you tomorrow Nat. Bye.”
After hanging up, you settled back into the couch thinking over yours and Natasha’s discussion with the bond. Maybe it was time to bring it up with Steve, about why you were hesitant.
Maybe he’s hesitant to? I know he has offered but-
<But nothing Y/N, his past is his past and even with the bond, he can choose not to share it. You know some things still stay private unless you choose to share them. Same goes with Steve and his Wolf. Besides… you're not just a little curious about before he was Alpha?>
Of course I am, I just never really brought it up.
The Little Wolf huffed out in frustration and shook out her fur as she moved to a stretch. <You have wanted it since before I came home, you were just waiting for me to come back.>
How do you know about that?
<Cause I was never actually gone, just trapped.> she responded, starting to trot away from the front of your awareness with a whisk of your tail. <Now it's simply fear holding you back. The Alpha deserves to know.>
You huffed a bit at your wolf being so dismissive. Pushing up off the couch, and going back to the bedroom to go get ready for the arrival of Ross to the pack.
Up on the mountain, the lot was just finishing up, Steve waiting with hands on his hips, watching as Sam worked the Skid Cat to load the last of the logs on. Once the last one was on, he pulled himself up the side and started working on strapping them down for transport when Sam parked the skid cat nearby, and hopped down to go join Steve. Pulling himself up the other side, both men working quietly tightening the straps till everything was safe to be taken down the mountain.
“Your awful quiet today Man.” Sam finally broke the ice while twisting to take a seat at the top of the pile, Steve making a similar move to sit next to him.
“Lot on my mind I guess.” He pulled off his heavy duty work gloves, and slapped them down beside him.
“This to do with Ross or Y/N?” Sam questioned while falling back to his palms planted on the log behind him, relaxing for a moment.
“A bit of both. Ross, I'm just ready to get him off Pack Land.” Steve admitted, and the Wolf growled lowly at the mention of the man's name. “Y/N, were good and starting to feel comfortable, and settled after everything from this summer. But is this what she wants for sure?”
<Course it is, our mate is happy Steve.> The Wolf pinned back his ear at the humans worries, sighing.
Sam listened and gave a nod. “I remember feeling that way with Sara when we first started. ‘Was she happy, would she want this to be her life.’ Nerve wracking. I wanted to ask her, but fuck I was scared that she was gonna tell me it was temporary.” Sam flashed a grin. “Then I sucked it up, and brought it up one night. Damn, she jumped me in all of two seconds, told me I was an idiot and that she wasn't going anywhere.” Sam chuckled at the memory, and Steve gave his own amused laugh. “Anyways, I had nothing to be worried about, and I don't think you do either. Y/N looks at you man with those god damn heart eyes all the time whenever she catches a whiff of you. And Ross, I know you're not happy about it. I'm glad i'm not in your position right now.”
Steve rolled his eyes at him. “Thanks Sam.”
“But you're gonna sail through it, tell Ross what happened, he's just being a prick cause you're not rushing to sign his accords.” Sam moved then to push off, sliding back down to the ground, and motioning to the truck's cab. When one Alpha refuses, others will not be afraid to say they agree. He’s afraid of more Alphas and packs agreeing with you. Come on Alpha, you're stalling. Let's get our shit finished, your best friend gonna be here soon.”
Steve grabbed his gloves and jumped down, growling at Sam. “You're an ass.” while stuffing his gloves in his back pocket and yanking the door open to get in.
“It’s a gift I’ve worked on for years.” Sam grinned, grabbing the walkie talkie and listening for the static. “Steve and I are taking the last load, clean up guys.” Once he got the confirmation, he got in, and Steve put the truck in drive and headed down the mountain.
It wasn’t long till Steve was once more pulling into the Packs compound and it hit him as soon as he opened the door. The Alpha himself bristled in Steve’s mind scenting the other Alphas on his land, and he had to push the Wolf back from the front of his consciousness, the beast set off by not just one outside Alpha, but two. Sam coming out the other side, side eyed Steve a moment to make sure he didn't lose control because he saw the situation before Steve did. Sam was well aware the moment Steve saw them, just from the growl that raised from the depths of his chest in a menacing tone before dying down.
On HIS porch, with HIS mate was Ross, Tony, and a female. Steve was unsure of who it was, but he was more focused on three wolves surrounding you that were outsiders. Heavy handed, he slammed the truck door shut, and all heads turned towards him to see him stalking towards his porch.
Tony immediately moved to a stand, clapping his hands together. “And there's the old boy now! We were just about to go up the mountain to find you Steve.” Ross gave a cold nod in agreement, and the woman sitting next to him, Steve finally recognized Ross's assistant, Judy. Steve’s gaze shifted hotly from the wolves to you, taking you in. You seemed relax, one leg crossed over another, your hand wrapped around a coffee mug, and everything in you seemed to say that you were comfortable yet alert. Immediately as soon as you saw him looking at you with such an intense look, you set your cup aside, and eased to a stand, bushing past Judy and going down the stairs to reach your Alpha, smiling in that welcome home way.
Immediately Steve loped an arm around you and pressed his lips to your temple with a whispered hushed tone just for you. “Everything okay?” you hummed a yes, exchanging the sentiment with a nuzzle to his shoulder before turning back to your waiting guests.
“They just arrived minutes before you and Sam, Alpha.” You say cheerfully, the other three following you off the porch and standing around. You can feel Steve against you, not growling, but the vibrations of silent rumbles shifted through him. Your hand lightly slides under the back of his shirt to press against his lower back, and you feel him calm down, a deep inhale clearing his mind.
“I was expecting you all much later, and I have a business to run, orders to be placed and people to keep employed within the compound and from the town below. But I’m here now, shall we go inside to talk?” Steve offered with an extended hand towards his front door. Ross once more seemed to look at Steve with disdain, making the Little Wolf in you bristle at the rudeness to your Alpha, but Steve chose to ignore it so you did as well. Judy though was another matter, the woman standing just to the other side of Ross with her tablet for notes, and she seemed to be eyeing Steve in a whole other way. A way that made you self conscious that he didn't have your bite showing any other unmated wolves he was committed. It made your jaw ache as you clenched it shut, your Little Wolf pacing now, panting slightly being on edge.
<She's a threat, I can smell her desire.> The Little Wolf's ears swept back flat against her skull, yellow eyes sharp as they watched Judy flaunt a bit in front of Steve, flashing her neck with sweeps of her hair over her shoulder and lowering her gaze in a way that wasn't necessary for anyone other than her Alpha or Mate. Now that Steve was here, you could smell the change in her, the heated desire this woman had for him. Steve must have felt you tense, cause his hand flexed on your hip and fingers pressed in the curve.
She is only a threat if we allow her to be. Your attention turned away from her back to Tony and Ross.
"Yes let's finish up with this." Ross snapped a bit and proceeded up the stairs.
As they headed inside, Steve dipped his head to Sam to whisper in his ear. Sam nodded at whatever Steve had said and stepped away from the group. You watch as he leaves, until Steve's touch pushes you gently up the stairs, wanting to keep you with him during this. You embrace for going inside, assaulted by the scent of all the extra people, but the one that was really irritating you the most was Judy. Who flung her hair once more over her shoulder, showing off the slim column of her neck.
Your teeth bared slightly, although you flashed her a smile, digging for a hair tie in your pocket. “Here, your hair seems to be bothering you.” you held out the offending tie to her and she looked at your hand with a slight wrinkle of her nose, and plucked it from your fingers.
“Thanks.” she muttered, but was quick to walk away from you. You noticed she flung your hair tie back on the kitchen island counter and stuck to Ross’s side while they settled on the couch. Judy’s nose dropped to her tablet, suddenly very busy.
Not a threat but she's annoying as hell. Steve isn't even paying her any attention. You stated confidently to you Little Wolf as Steve dropped a kiss to your shoulder while going to the bar to pour some tumblers of the Wakandian liquor to offer the guests.
“Be careful, it's strong.” he said as he passed it to Ross, Tony and Sharon. The last two he kept for you and him, once he settled in his leather chair, you perched on the arms chair allowing Steve to keep a possessive hand on your thigh. You sip it, licking your bottom lip afterward to clear the droplets collected and smirked to yourself when Steve’s fingers flexed and dug into your muscle before loosening again.
<His…>
Yes we are. You thought while sipping the strong liquor once more.
Tony, you noticed, was well aware of what Steve had given him and took a tentative sip. Ross though, shot back a heavy swallow, and started sputter and grabbing a kerchief from his pocket. “Christ Rogers, what was that?”
“It's Wakadian Liquor, courtesy of King T’Challa. So, what is it you want, Senator Ross? You felt the need to come all the way to my Pack to discuss my packs matters?”
Ross set his glass to the side, and your gaze followed to see that he completely missed the coaster, and your eyes flashed in irritation at his ignorant behaviour.
“Well as you know, the council over the American Wolves don't condone pack on pack violence. I understand the unique situation with Pierces ex lone wolf.” Ross said, gesturing towards you.
Steve snapped forward in his seat, a warning growl rising from him. “Her name is Y/N, and I accepted her as part of the Mountain Pack the day she arrived. She was never a lone wolf or lived in the no man's land. Y/N was on the run, for her life. Running from a mad Alpha looking to sell her. She was a victim, she didn't choose to cross boundaries. Treat her as such.”
To be called a lone wolf insinuated you had abandoned your pack and disrespected your Alpha. A wolf gone rogue and living between pack lines was a dangerous wolf, traveling to find a new pack was acceptable. But to live entirely feral, was rare and often those beasts went a little mad, losing their sense of human side.
Tony rubbed at his face, easy to tell that the two Alphas were going to start bristling at one another, and interrupted with a slightly cheerful voice. “Okay gentleman, let's be sure we keep to the purpose here.”
Ross nodded, this time taking a much more careful sip of his drink. “I apologize Y/N. I'm not unsympathetic to your situation.” He stated towards you, which you nodded slightly in acceptance while Steve thrummed his fingers against your thigh, impatient now. “As I was saying, there are proper procedures we must take to investigate Pierce and properly hold him accountable. Now, he’s dead. And he can't pay for his crimes. So Alpha…” Ross snapped out. “What prompted you to take those measures without notifying the Council.”
Steve slid his arm around your hip while leaning forward, moving to sit on the edge of his seat, instinctively you felt the Aloha growing angered, and slid from the arm of the chair onto his knee. You could feel his coiled muscles underneath you and you leaned back enough to feel his chest pressing partially against your back. “What prompted me, Senator Ross? The fact that Y/N had to come seeking safety while being hunted. Trackers crossed my lines, uninvited, went into my house, uninvited and tried to abduct Y/N.” Steve inhaled deeply, dragging your scent to calm his Wolf down before continuing. “Then I am told about unmated wolves being held captive and sold to the highest bidder, against their consent. But none of that matters, right Ross? Leave it to the council to sit on their asses waiting for something more? How about this, Pierce threatened to attack my pack.” Steve shifted back, easing you both back. “I went to him instead, offered to talk first. It didn't end that way. I'm not going to have any of my family threatened, especially when from what I've been told, the council had all this information and more on file. And YOU all were still waiting? For what?” Steve challenged back.
Ross glared at Tony before clearing his throat. “I don't know where you might have heard that information, but I can assure you Steve that the council has nothing but all Packs welfare in mind. That's why we were made in the first place.
“Enough!” Steve snapped his teeth behind you. “I see now that the Council was made to try to control the Packs, do away with the need for Alphas. That's what this is about right? I refuse to sign your Accords, and by me not doing so, you have other packs who are also refusing. The matter with Pierce is just showing how fucking sloppy you all are, half ass work, rather watch until its the prime opportune moment to make the Council look good.” Steve snarled out, jostling you a bit in his lap as his arm tightened around you, probably unconsciously at this moment because his anger was starting to roll from him.
“You're severely misjudging the Council Rogers, and although your opinions of us are not unknown, I say you best be watching what you say. You originally were for it, and we're still doing good for everyone, even if it's behind the scenes. Just because you and your Wolf got all tripped up saving a bitch in distress and breaking the Law.”
You felt Steve surge behind you, but you were quicker this time, your Little Wolf raging enough that your eyes flashed yellow barely containing her now. “You are in the Alphas house Senator, shut your fucking mouth if you cant be civil!” you snapped out, looming over the seated man when you pulled out of Steve’s hold. He went to stand, and you pushed him back to sit on the couch, Judy next to him giving a yelp in surprise, and you snarled at her enough for her to pull back into Ross. You turned into Tony next, who threw up his hands in surrender. “Stark I like you, you helped Steve and I when we needed it most. But how dare you bring this man to our home.” Your hand waved over Ross.
“Y/N, I'm sorry… “ Tony started genuinely but you cut him off, turning towards Ross, your anger still on the surface. You felt Steve move up behind you, but he never tried stopping you.
“And You,” you inhaled deeply and growled as you exhaled. “You left us there to be tortured and abused. You left Pierce out of control, for what? More evidence? Know how many times Pierce tried to sell me off? Do you want the details of how that happens? I can fucking show you for your files. I know you saw his wall of skins. How many you think he did that to while your precious fucking council was waiting? You know how many he skinned alive?” At this Steve rested his hands on your shoulder, angry tears welling up that you wiped away furiously before continuing. “I remember every single one of them begging for mercy, their howls and screams. It will never go away.” All three of them listened while horror crossed their faces. “Steve, listened to the bare minimum of it all and knew it couldn't continue. So don't ever, EVER come here again trying to accuse the Alpha of anything other than saving the rest of our lives.” You took a deep breath, and your glare fell on your last victim. Judy saw you snap towards her, and she shrunk into the cushions, her hands shaking a bit as she dropped her head to look away from you. “And you know that I'm with Alpha, bite or not. All the neck flashing and bare minimum presenting yourself as a possible mate does nothing but make you look like a fool Woman. I'm assuming you think you're going places working for Ross. Sweetheart, find a new Alpha to work for.” You could feel yourself getting closer to losing control and you straightened, your back slamming into Steve just behind you, and his hands tightened on your hips to steady you.
“I think my Little One said everything she needed to Ross. Leave, get off my pack’s land and don't ever show your face here again, you are not welcome.” Steve said quietly, the tone dripping with anger and a threat.
“Now Rogers…” Ross tried again to make his point across while Tony and Sharon both went to stand and remove themselves. Steve roared out from behind you, and you hitched your chin up in your resolve. “NOW!” From outside came threatening howls from around the cabin, a clear sign that they were no longer welcome, and Ross snapped to a stand, straightening his jacket.
“We're leaving, but mark my words Rogers this isn't over. There's the matter of your missing pack mates. Know where your trusted White Wolf is?” Ross snarled, and Steve started to make a move to lunge at Ross when Tony started to push them out.
“Were going Steve, Y/N, Pepper says hi.” Tony shoved them both out the doors, and from the glance you saw, several wolves were lounging in front of your cabin, Sam being right on the stairs and Sara just below him. Sam remained impassive, just his ears perking at the opening of the door. Sara though rolled her muzzle to flash her fangs at the trio descending the stairs.
Sam followed them down with Sara pacing right along with him, all three hurried to their parked vehicle as other wolves followed along. Several other packmates flowed silently into the treeline bordering the road that would lead them off the grounds.
As the vehicle sped, they were followed with howls all along the driveway, going for several miles, keeping track of where the intruders were. You and Steve remained listening, relaxing a little more the further they got. Steve's hold was loose around you and his head dropped to nip kisses against your neck, breathing in against you while you and the Little Wolf listened with perked ears until Sam and Sara both announced with their own howl the threat was gone. You sagged in against his chest, for a moment and tipped your head back to look up at him.
“I could have ripped his throat out.” You rumbled, and Steve looked down with a slight amused look on his face when he rubbed your stomach under your shirt, feeling yourself clench under his hands.
“I know Little One, apparently they lit a fire in you.” A hand wrapped around your neck to slip up to your jaw, tilting your head to the side so he could drag teeth along your neck and followed by the soft warmth of his tongue. Your adrenaline was quickly shifting from anger to lust and desire. “Seeing you get protective was fucking hot Little One. I could fuck you so hard right now.” He bared his teeth against your wayward pulse. Everything about Steve screamed danger for others, for you it was exhilarating, the slight squeeze on your neck left you whimpering as you clenched your thighs together. “Get in our bed Little One, now.” He released you and you spun to face him, grasping his face to lick over his lips and biting that bottom one with a tug while his hand snapped sharply across your ass to send you on your way inside.
Steve followed you in and watched you disappear down the hallway before he turned to lock the front door. Gritting his teeth as he leaned his forehead, feeling the Wolf shift through him with hunger for you, he was already rock hard when you lit right into Ross, Tony and Judy. Now the need to claim you was overriding all his other desires for you. Snapping back from the door, he stalked down the hallway, his nose lifted to follow your scent. Which built a hunger in his lower gut.
He was raging hard, everything said that you ached, wet heat for him to get lost in. And when he stopped in the doorway, he saw you kneeling in the middle of the bed, arching yourself while your hands traveled to your back to unclasp your bra. Steve didn't even give you a chance.
He couldn't help it, he was on you, his hands pulling you in closer to the edge, and a snap of his fingers against your back and sliding his hand around your ribs, he pulled the bra off your front to sharply inhale, catching the sight of you blinking up at him with those wide eyes shimmering back and forth between you and the Little Wolf. Hands moving to cup your breasts, thumbs flickering over the round pebbled tips while descending to claim your mouth, riding you down till you were smothered underneath him on the bed, caging you effectively underneath him. “Fuck you drive me wild Little One.”
You could feel his teeth sink into your shoulder to keep you still and make you hiss out “Isn’t that my job?” which made Steve bite just a bit harder and make you growl while arching just a bit. Your hands fisted in the soft cotton of his tee and started to shred it till you could pull it away while his hands had your hips pinned in place, slotting a knee in between your spread thighs to grind the hard muscle into your cunt, which had your jolting underneath him.
Once you got rid of his shirt, yanking the last of what was left over his head that he had to lift himself away from where he was marking you, you rubbed your aching cunt against his thigh again, dragging your nails down his muscled back while arching underneath him, seeking out that friction of his body against yours.
Steve’s hand snaked once more around your neck, slamming you back into the pillows so he could look down at you, panting as inhaling you wasn't enough, he wanted to taste you, breath you in and get lost in the intoxication that made up you. “Flip over, to your knees Little One.” Leaning over you and brushing his lips against yours while you gave kitten licks to his lips, opening to let his tongue fill your mouth in a hungry kiss for one another. Steve couldn't contain the snarl of need erupting from him, the twitch of his cock constrained in tight jeans. Your nails dug into his back, dragging down while digging in, maring the spanse of his back in deep red welts. You gasped out when he moved down to suck his mark on your neck. “Steve, you gotta let me move.” you chuckled, pointing out the obvious. Steve had you effectively captured underneath him.
The Alpha gave a warning nip to your pulse before pulling away, smirking down at you. “Sassy Little Wolf.” His palms slapped against your ass cheeks, digging his fingers in and pushing you off his knee. “One more time, flip over and let me see just how wet and needy you are Little One.” Steve commanded, and pulled back while you twisted to your stomach, his hands sliding along your sides, and grasping your layers remaining to jerk them down over your ass and off your legs.
Finishing with unbuckling his belt and sliding pants down while your ass swung back and forth to get yourself in position for your Alpha, breathing out deeply while dropping your head to the mattress. You could hear his hungry groan as he moved in behind you, his hands cupping the soft globes, spreading them so nothing was possibly hidden from him. You sighed feeling the cool air brush against your heated swollen cunt, and snuck a peek over your shoulder to see Steve biting on his lip, his eyes hungry while his cock pressed against the lower part of his stomach, dripping from his own desires. A finger trailed along your weeping cunt, sliding so easily into your channel, even when you tightened around him, dropping your head against the mattress once more with a pleading whimper. “Alpha please.”
Steve stroked your fluttering and clutching walls, his finger slick with your want, and he easily stretched you open with another finger. His other hand smoothed up your back, and grasped the back of your neck, long fingers grasping around the column and dragging you up so that you were leaning on your elbow, your head tipped back to look up.
“So pretty for me my Little One, taking my fingers so good.” He gave a stroke against the soft spongy spot that made you clench around him, breathing in deeply as he dropped his forehead against the center of your back, breathing out to keep himself under control as his muscles rippled under taunt skin. You started whimpering and mewling whenever his calloused fingertips sunk back into you, snapping your back while pushing back to meet his movements. “Your Alpha is going to fill you up, leave you dripping with my cum so everyone knows who you belong to.”
Fuck you wanted that, wanted him so hard and deep in you that you would ache moving the next day, that his claim would be all over your skin, bruises from his mouth, and his seed rubbed in till it was all you could scent, leaving you dripping with need. “Please Alpha, make me yours.” you panted, and started clenching around his fingers, the coils in your belly threatening to snap. Twisting your head to muffle into the mattress, you started crying out and curling your toes while Steve started to run his tongue up your back till his chest was draped over your back, nuzzling the back of your neck with soft growls while pressing his words into your soft skin with kisses and sharp nips.
“Come on my fingers and I will give it to you.” tilting his head and sinking his teeth in enough to hold you still while you let go, his fingers dragging out your orgasm until you wanted to sink into the bed in bliss. “Nu uh uh, Little One.” Steve removed his fingers from your clenching core to hold your hip up, pushing up to take the weight off your back. “Im not done with you yet.” He assured you while you dragged in deep breaths and gave a nod. “That's my good girl, my perfect Little One.” Grasping his base, he dragged his swollen weeping cocks head through your swollen folds, tapping against your clit to make you jolt while he pressed against your entrance. Tight as you were, when he started to press into you, he was able to slide right in, burying himself to the hilt, and you flexed around him with your own groan underneath him, biting against a pillow to muffle yourself. Steve's hand moved to press against your stomach, feeling himself thrust into you, a jolt of his hips rocking you.
“Fuck Little One.” He growled and you pushed to your elbows, flexing yourself around him. A few shallow strokes went faster and harder, his hands holding your hips in place to keep him from driving you into the mattress. Steve felt so heavy and full in you and around you, it was taking your willpower to keep from falling apart feel each demanding thrust into you, but you met him back, your hands digging into the sheets and your head tipped back to get lost in the sensation of Steve claiming your body, every hitting thrust into your cunt breaking down those walls of doubt just a bit more. There wasn't going to be anyone you could want like this, except for Steve. Even now in the midst of taking you as his, he was still taking care of you, above you was him grunting out praises in how good you were to him, a hand dipped in between your legs, and rolled your clit to bring you maximum pleasure.
In the midst of this, the need to belong to him flooded you. More then the endorphins sex brought, but genuine resolve that you were ready for it, all that belonging to the Alpha would bring. You couldn't imagine not being here with Steve, and not just these moments, but all of them. The good and bad, you would remain at his side should he want you, and you wanted his immense strength to lean on as well. You finally managed to gasp out from the pleasured haze “Steve, Do it… Claim me, make me yours.”
Steve faltered over you, his hand flexing on your hips when he thought he heard you tell him to give you the bite, to officially claim you as his own. He clenched his jaw to keep from sinking a hold into you. It was a struggle for a second to keep the Alpha from taking over, he collapsed over you, pressing you down into the mattress, and hissing against your shoulder. “Little One, you want the bite?” His tongue dragged over your ear while you whimpered underneath him, nodding while twisting your head to the side to see him.
“I'm ready Steve, I know Im yours.” You whispered, Steve’s gaze scanned you, from your swollen kissed lips from earlier to fluttering eyelids, but your eyes kept contact with his, nodding again to affirm that is what you wanted with him. Pushing up to his hands, he placed a deep kiss to the crook of your neck with a deep inhale against you, committing your scent of sweet honeysuckle and arousal to memory. A scent he would never get tired of. Pulling back further he eased his aching cock from you, leaving you lifting your head in question, a slight panic in your voice that he was leaving you. “Steve-”
“It's okay, Little One, turn around. I want us to do this together.” His hands smoothed over your hips, and along the scars on your back till his hands folded over your shoulders and eased you back to kneel, your back pressing against your chest. “I got you Little One.” He nuzzled against your neck where he always favored, ever since he was first with you. Flicks of his tongue and press of his lips made your racing heart start to ease.
Reaching behind you to press your fingers through his hair at the back of his head and tug on it to lift him from your neck. You hum gently while easing around to face Steve and cup his face in your hands to crash your lips to his, gliding tongues and teeth. You both tilted into the kiss to deepen it while Steve rode you to your back, his hands planted on each side of your head and his mouth traveled to the corner of your mouth to your jawline, a nudge of his nose had you tilting your head to the side so he could drag his tongue over your pulse and leaving his scent on you. “You sure this is what you want Little One?” He growled, and you squirm underneath him to wrap your legs around his waist with a nod.
“I- We have never been more sure of anything before Steve.” you whispered and when he lifted his head to meet your eyes, you tilted your nose up to bump against his, your fingers remaining tangled in his hair. “I love you and want everyone to know it.” Your fingers slid down his neck and rubbed against his shoulders before gliding along his biceps.
“I love you to Little One.” he shifted to one arm to grasp your hand, weaving his fingers with yours, then to the other with the same action. Steve eased himself forward to slide back into you, feeling you gasp and arch underneath him feeling him thick and full inside of you, the slow roll of his hips, dragging him back and forth. “Fuck Alpha…” You buried your face in against his arm as you rolled back to meet him. “What should I expect?” you whimper, flexing your fingers against his.
Steve nipped lightly against your neck and you tipped your head back for him. He growled softly while lapping at your skin, rolling once more to fill you, press deeper to connect you two. “A complete connection Little One, we will feel one another with strong emotions even when we're apart.” another nip, and another sigh as your nerves flared with anticipation. “We won't have to be shifted for our wolves to be together.” Another promising nip and ghosting of lips against the hollow of your neck, sucking a mark there as he sped up his hips, grunting as he held back the desire to cum inside of you at that moment. “Are you ready for that Little One?” Steve asked, not willing to go through with it if you were having second thoughts.
You were overwhelmed with love for the man claiming you, and you tightened around him, drawing him in closer. With his barely held control, it made him growl with his next thrust. “Mark me Steve Rogers.” A flash of your neck made his eyes flare yellow in the moment, and he dropped to scent against your neck.
When he found the spot he wanted, one that was his favorite place to bury his face into because it was soft and warm, everything you were in his life, his tongue soothed over it, and a soft growl to prepare you rolled through his chest before his teeth laid claim, breaking through your skin. You immediately arched into him, curling yourself around his body with a pleasured scream. It left your Little Wolf howling while you came from the intense pleasure, and his body surged forward to keep your orgasm rolling through you in waves. It felt like fire and ice burned from your clenching core, and laced your body with licks of contrast, making you wither and hold onto Steve more. You sought out Steve's firmness to keep from losing yourself, and your head buried in against his shoulder, breaking a pleasured sob into the muscle. His hand broke from yours and cupped the back of your head, each surge rocking you into your mate. The urge to return the bite overcame you, and on his shoulder you laid your own mark, which sent Steve spiraling over the edge. His hips started to stutter to a stop while he buried his seed into you, groaning as he sunk over you.
The explosion in your mind was another pleasure all its own, leaving you seeing spots in your vision even when you had your eyes screwed shut and your hand not pinned down with his hand, was wrapped around Steve’s side, clutching yourself to him till there wasn't any space between both of your sex blissed bodies.
Your Little Wolf was tentative in the new connection you and Steve shared, lowering to her belly waiting to see if the Alpha would come, and sure enough the silver Alpha nudged against her, the Little Wolf rolling and nipping under his chin while rubbing against him with excited whines and yips.
You could feel him, not in the same way you felt your own Little Wolf, but the sensation was thrilling. Steve was the first to let go, gentle with a rub of his hand along your hip and a soothing caress of his tongue against your broken skin to clean off the blood the bite brought. He groaned at the warm iron taste. You unclench your jaw and let go as well, placing a kiss against the mark while sliding your hand up and down his back gently which was still rippling under your fingertips, tracing the marks you left on him gently. “I can feel your wolf Steve.” you whisper in his ear, and Steve lifted his chest off yours, tucking himself up on his elbows, his hands cupping your face, and thumbs gliding over your cheeks, smiling down at you.
“I feel her to Y/N, she's as much a part of me as he is of you.” Tipping his head to catch your lips, he circled an arm around your waist while pulling up, bringing you with him till you were straddled against his lap while wrapping your arms around his neck to stay in place. Steve couldn't stop his hands from gliding over your curves, the smooth skin along your lower back and over the swell of your hips and down along your thighs. You tentatively touch your neck, feeling the raised heated skin from where Steve bit you, your fingertips tracing the indents where his teeth sunk in. “Do you want to go see it YN?” Steve asked as he grasped your hips, ready to ease you off him now that he was no longer knotted in you, and was safe for you to move.
“Yea, I want to see it, this is the first bite that was my choice, I want to admire it.” You gave a shy grin, and Steve felt a burst of satisfaction in his chest. You were so happy in this moment, and he was effectively feeling it as well. Easing you off his lap and you tumbled out of the bed, to approach the dresser mirror, lifting your hair back to see where Steve claimed you as his.
In the mirror, Steve could see your face break into a smile, placing your palm over it. He moved to sit on the edge of the bed, and you twisted on your toes to approach him. Spreading his thighs for you to step through, he let his hands slide up the back of your thighs while your own fingers slid through his hair and down till your palms pressed against the underside of his jaw, tilting his face to look up at you. “Thank you for choosing me Alpha.”
Steve's fingers dug into the back of your thighs. “I would choose you again and again my Omega.” for the first time, he labeled you as his other half, the omega wolf to his alpha wolf. In the connection, you both could hear your wolves singing your bonding song.
“Oh it's going excellent, the asset was well worth the wait.” Brock smirked into the phone as he looked in the large cell used to contain their weapon. “Hold on, I will show you how efficient he is.” Turning the phone around, he tilted the phone so the camera could face into the cell, and he barked out an order. “Go get that Stark man… the one they call Happy. Let the Winter Wolf have some fun with him.” Quickly the hydra agent he ordered went to collect their victim while Brock continued to speak into the phone. “It took a while to break him in but once we did, we unleashed a killer. I had no idea he even had it in him, and makes me wonder now if Rogers has that in him as well. They were trained in the same unit.” Brock heard the scuffle of footsteps behind him, and he swung open the cell door to shove Happy inside, sending him spiraling against the cement floor. With a clang, the door slammed shut and Happy pushed himself off the dirty ground, looking for any way to get out.
“Rumlow, you know this is foolish, Tony will never let this go.” he grunted as he turned towards the bars. Rumlow crossed his arms over his chest, and smirked coldly.
“You think Stark scares me any? Bigger picture Happy. Tony is nothing, an Alpha coming to the end of his time. Along with all the other packs across the country. That council shit they all live by will be brought down.”
“Your fucking crazy Brock, I always knew it.” Happy growled softly, feeling the hairs on the back of his neck bristle. “Steve was right to take over your Pack.”
Brock gave a laugh, banging on the bars to make Happy jump. “Rogers, don't worry I have something just for him. Right now your time is up.” He backed up a bit and re-directed the camera. “Let the asset out.”
There was a clank behind Happy, and he spun around, reaching up to tug at the collar preventing him being able to shift. Fear flooded him with a sour bitter taste in his mouth, cause he could sense the danger coming for him, still hidden in the shadows. Happy’s Wolf was chained, but his fear made him struggle against the magic binding him with panicked whimpers, while Happy tried his best to see where the attack would come from. A loud snarl echoed from the room and Happy backed into a corner, trying to get as far away as possible now, giving his own warning to stay back. “Get back!” he panted in panic, still now knowing exactly where the beast would be coming from. The large White Wolf padded out, his yellow eyes honed in on Happy while licking his jaws with a bright pink roll of his tongue. “Bucky, fuck we know each other.” Happy tried pleading. Brock behind him burst into a laugh, remarking. “That isn't Bucky, not anymore.” The White Wolf flickered his ears back and forth, studying the quivering man before him and Brock’s almost bored tone filled the silence. “Ubiystvo” Kill.
It all happened so fast, just enough time for Happy to throw up his hands to try to block his throat, and a streak of white became a mauling set of jaws and rage filled snarls rose over Happy's screams while it tore into him, teeth cutting into flesh and snapping through bones. Within seconds the White Wolf got to his throat and gave a whiplashing shake of his victim, crashing his body against the bars, Happy went limp and dropped to the ground as blood flooded pristine white fur, and red seeped to pool around the wolf’s paws. Brock couldn't help the grin plastered on his face, the wolf before him waited for directions. “You can go back now. Get!” and with that, the White Wolf turned and retreated back to where he came from.
Someone spoke on the phone, and Brock brought it back up to his ear.
“Oh yes, he will be in the field any day now. We just have to affirm his trigger words and Soldat will be ready for use.”
It was several days after Steve had given you the bite, your fingers unconsciously slipped along the fresh healing mark while you sat outside around the fire with other members of the pack later in the evening. The bite had ended up sending you into a heat which Steve kept you sated till finally you both came up for air days later, deciding that it was best to let the rest of the pack know you two were actually still alive. Sara gave a knowing grin before she brought her beer bottle to her mouth to drink and once you settled down next to her, she handed one over to you. “Welcome to the Pack, officially now Y/N.” She said and laughed softly while throwing her arm around your shoulder when you sputtered on your beer bottle, glaring at her. Your eyes glanced across the fire at Steve while he wandered around, catching up on what's been going on since the two of you had been locked up in the cabin together.
“Thanks Sara, it was time. I know this is home, and I don’t have any desire to be anywhere else.” You took another swig while Steve from across the large bonfire seemed to catch a scent, tilting his head while talking to some of the logging crew. His eyes roved over the crowd till they fell on you through the flames crackling between them, and Steve smiled to himself before he turned back to his packmates.
“I will see you all up there in the morning, first thing.” he excused himself from the small group and wandered slowly around the fire, talking to a few others till he reached You and Sara.
“Ladies…” He greeted on the sly, pulling you up out of the chair and falling into it to pull you in his lap.
“Alpha, been a while.” Sara said slyly while Sam came up behind her, plucking her beer bottle from her hand and taking a swig from it.
“Now Baby, be nice. This is still the honeymoon stage.” Sam teased and Steve tightened his hold a bit, shaking his head at your friends.
“Weren't you just telling me a couple days ago that it just gets better?” Steve asked, and Sara tilted her head back to look up at Sam.
“Aww, you really say that? Someones getting lucky later.” Sara sprang up and wrapped her arm around Sam's neck, nipping at his chin playfully. Steve turned his attention back to you, his chin brushing along your neck where he left his mark, pride swelling up that now everyone could see you were officially his. He was content, feeling your Little Wolf so close to the Alpha in this new bond. You purred softly feeling the brush of his beard and tilted your head with your eyes closed, enjoying the sensation he was making along your skin.
Your fingers danced up his arm, over his shoulder and cupped the back of his neck, nuzzling back into the crook, cuddling up against him. You could feel your Little Wolf sigh in content in this moment, her muzzle stretched over the Alphas back. Her ears flickered back and forth feeling you stir in your mind.
<You know we’re happy right, this is what it feels like.>
You snicker against Steve's neck listening to her. I know what it feels like.
<I just wanted to be sure, because Im not letting this go anytime soon.> She curled up closer to her Alpha, who lifted his head to check on her before settling back down.
Neither am I.
“What are you and the Little Wolf discussing?” Steve asked against your ear, and you lifted your head to smile at him.
“About how happy we are Alpha.” you cupped his face and nipped at his lips, letting your forehead press against his. “That this was the best choice I’ve ever made for myself.”
His hands were heavy when they pressed against the small of your back, making you arch into him, the fire crackling before you, the pack all around you… Steve had to admit, he was pretty fucking happy to.
