smitten
billy the kid x fem!reader |requested!|billy is still love-sick for you with your new domestic life and baby boy|
the baby stirs in your grip softly, a grin spreads on your face as your infant sleeps soundly in your arms
you turn as the door opens, billy takes his hat off and a wide smile finds his lips at the sight of you two
"how was your ride?" you whispered. billy often rides into the meadows -sometimes turning for the town if you need anything- after he left his outlaw life behind and married you. he's a cowboy at heart, though, so he rides almost every morning
"it was great," he said, voice low, he moved toward you pushing a loose strand of your hair to the side to get a good look at your face
"you look gorgeous" he whispered, a smitten look deep in his eyes as he moved down to kiss you
still as lovesick as ever, you melt into the kiss, and the baby in your arms whines at your attention moving and billy makes sure to greet him too
"hey little cowboy" he whispers and kisses the top of your baby's head, the infant's eyes barely open to see his dad
billy impossibly grins wider once your baby boy smiles at him, their matching eyes filled with love as billy scoops him up
"did you sleep good last night?" billy babbles to the baby,
"I'll make breakfast while you too talk" you giggle as you make your way to the kitchen, billy follows as the mumbles to the child
"mama's gonna make us some food. you'll help her one day so pay attention"
he narrates your movements to your baby, as you fry a few eggs your eyes drift to your husband and you couldn't help your heart as it swelled at the sight
this tall, threatening-looking man with a gun on his hip rocked your baby ever so softly with a love-filled grin plastered on his face
"I love you" you told him, he looked up at you before stepping closer to kiss you slowly
"I love you more than you could ever know"
an: thank you for the request! <3 I love love love the simple life with billy 🥺🫶

Finding Magic
Request: May I request a hunger games request Haymitch x wife reader, she is a district 12 victor from the laye 50's games. She is around 4-8 years younger than him. It is set in district 13, we see him with their young daughter named after his fellow 50th game tribute and just fluff, please Pairing: Haymitch Abernathy x Fem!reader
Pairing: Haymitch Abernathy x wife!reader
Word count: 1.7k
Warnings: SUNRISE ON THE REAPING SPOILERS, characters mentioned
A/N: the first of many Haymitch requests UGH I loved this and seeing soft Haymitch. Enjoy!! <3 ~~~~~~~~
The quarters in District 13 weren’t much—gray walls, stiff bedding, and a distinct lack of anything that could be called personal. Everything was practical, assigned, and strictly regulated, from the meals to the uniforms to the way time itself seemed to tick by in rigid blocks.
But somehow, you had made it feel like home. Haymitch wasn’t sure how she did it. Maybe it was the warmth she carried with her, the way she never let the weight of their reality smother the small joys you still managed to carve out of the days. Or maybe it was the way you saw things—not just for what they were, but for what they could be.
Even here, underground, you made the world seem bigger.
Your ten year old daughter, Louella was sprawled out on the cold floor, utterly lost in the book she held, her small fingers gripping the worn pages as if they contained the secrets of the universe.
Haymitch could see the crease between her brows, the slight parting of her lips as she whispered words under her breath, tasting them as she read. Whatever world she had discovered in those pages had its hooks in her now, and nothing short of an emergency would pull her out of it.
And you sat nearby, your head bent over a needle and thread, patching up yet another hole in your daughter’s jumpsuit. It wasn’t the first tear she’d fixed this week, and it sure as hell wouldn’t be the last.
Louella was always running, climbing, sneaking into places she wasn’t supposed to be. She had the boundless energy of someone who had never known anything but motion.
Haymitch liked to pretend he didn’t know where she got that rebellious streak from, but between your quiet defiance and his own tendency to do exactly the opposite of what people expected, the girl hadn’t stood a chance.
He leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed over his chest, watching them for a moment before speaking. “What’s she reading this time?”
You didn’t look up, but there was a small smile on her lips. “Poetry. About magic.”
Haymitch raised a brow and pushed off the wall, making his way over before flopping down beside Louella. “Magic, huh? Didn’t think District 13 allowed that kind of thing.”
Louella shot him an unimpressed look over the top of her book. “It’s poetry, Papa. Not spells.”
Haymitch smirked, leaning in as if she had just admitted to something scandalous. “Still sounds like nonsense.”
Louella let out a dramatic sigh and held up the book. “Just listen.”
She cleared her throat, straightened her back, and read aloud:
“The wind hums secrets through the trees,
The river sings to passing bees.
The sky bends low to kiss the land,
And leaves spell stories in the sand.”
She closed the book with a decisive little snap and looked up expectantly, waiting for his reaction.
Haymitch tilted his head. “Huh. Not bad.”
Louella beamed, victorious, and turned to her mother. “See? Even he likes it.”
You chuckled, tying off the stitch with practiced ease. “Took him long enough.”
Haymitch rolled his eyes but turned back to Louella. “So, you really think there’s magic in all that?”
Louella nodded eagerly. “Mama says magic is just seeing things the right way. Like when the sun looks like melted gold, or when the air smells different before a storm.”
You take a pause, setting down the sewing, stretching your fingers before smiling at your daughter. “My family always believed in magic,” you said, voice soft with nostalgia,
“We grew up in the fields, and we saw it in everything—the way fireflies danced like little stars, the hush of the earth before the first snowfall, the way seeds always knew how to find the sun.”
Louella’s eyes widened in that way only a child’s could, full of wonder and longing for things just out of reach. “I wish I could’ve seen all that.”
You smiled fondly, brushing a curl from Louella’s face. “You still can, sweetheart. Magic’s in the little things. You just have to know how to look.”
Haymitch snorted, shaking his head. “That why people used to call your family wild?”
That caused you to smirked at him, the corners of her eyes crinkling with amusement. “Of course. You’d know that. You’d also remember that people often said we were odd for believing in things you couldn’t hold in your hands. But it takes special people to see the magic in little things.”
Louella grinned. “Good thing I’m special, then.”
Haymitch hummed, “yes you are, sweetheart,” he said glancing between the two of them—you, his wife, with your quiet strength and stubborn belief in things bigger than themselves, and his daughter, practically glowing with excitement at the idea of unseen wonders hiding in the world around her.
Louella yawned, rubbing at her eyes but still stubbornly gripping her book. “Can I read one more?”
You glanced at the clock on the wall—lights-out was soon, and rules were strict here. But sighed, a small, indulgent smile on your lips. “Just one more.” How could you deny one of the few pleasures you were able to indulge in?
Louella grinned and flipped through the pages, searching for the perfect poem. Haymitch, meanwhile, leaned his head back against the wall, one arm draped lazily over your shoulders.
He wasn’t much for poetry, but he liked the sound of Louella’s voice as she read, soft and full of belief. Reminding him so much of you.
“The stars will shine beyond the dark,
Their light will never wane.
A whispered wish, a hopeful heart,
And magic stays the same.”
Luella looked up, blinking sleepily. “That means magic is always there, right? Even when we can’t see it?”
You ran her fingers through Louella’s hair. “That’s right.”
Haymitch huffed. “Poetry’s got a lot of nerve making promises like that.”
Louella giggled, pressing her face into his side. “You just don’t get it, Dad.”
He smirked, pulling the blanket up over her. “Guess not.”
She let out another small yawn, and this time, her eyes didn’t open again. Haymitch exhaled, shifting to pick her up. She made a sleepy sound of protest as he scooped her into his arms, but she didn’t fight it, just curled against his chest like she’d done since she was little.
You stood and followed as he carried Louella to the small cot she called a bed. He tucked her in, smoothing down the blanket while you brushed her hair back, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead.
Haymitch stayed there a moment longer, watching as Louella breathed slow and deep, already lost in dreams. He reached out, tucking a stray curl behind her ear. “Sleep tight, wild thing.”
She didn’t stir. You slipped your hand into his, lacing their fingers together as they stepped back from the bed.
Haymitch pressed a kiss to you temple as they settled onto their own bed. “You’re gonna turn her into a dreamer.”
You smiled against his shoulder. “Good. The world needs more of them.”
Haymitch didn’t answer right away. He just held you a little tighter, his fingers absently tracing slow, idle patterns against your arm.
Even after all these years, it still felt surreal sometimes—having this family, having you.
He thought back to the first time he saw you, standing on that stage at seventeen, trying to keep your face blank as your name was called. He’d been your mentor then, five years after winning himself. And he had been forced to watch 10 kids die since then. He was sure you would be the 12th.
And so he was forced to watch as you stepped into the arena, as you fought. But this time you proved everyone wrong as you won.
He had known, back then, what kind of person would walk out of that place. What it took to survive.
But you had come back still you, against all odds. You had come back stubborn and sharp and kind in ways the Capitol couldn’t kill. You still held onto who you were. And that alone was the perfect act of rebellion.
And somehow, in the years that followed, through nightmares and rebellion and the slow, aching process of trying to be something more than just survivors—you had found your way to each other eventually. And then became more.
Then two, became three. You had sobbed in his arms when you found out, fearing the day that she too would have to be reaped from the bowl of names. With a high chance of her dying in that god forsaken arena. The guilt, Haymitch remembered, took such a toll on you.
“How could I do this? Bring a child into this world?” You had once said. But after some time you had come to terms with the baby—Luella. Light in the dark. And a memorial name after the one of the tributes from Haymitch’s games. A sweet little girl you remembered from the Seam.
But now, you all were here, in a dimly lit room beneath the earth, with the most incredible daughter who believed in poetry and magic, in a place where hope was hard to hold on to.
And yet, somehow, you still did.
Haymitch exhaled, pressing his forehead against your hair. “You know,” he muttered, “I always knew you were trouble.”
You laughed softly, shifting closer. “Oh? Since when?”
“Since you looked me in the eye after they called your name and didn’t cry.” His voice was quiet, thoughtful. “Since you gave me an attitude that first day on the train. And especially afterward,”
Your fingers brushed against his hand, lacing together. “Guess that means you didn’t do a terrible job as a mentor.”
Haymitch huffed a small, dry laugh. “Didn’t do a great one, either.”
You squeezed his hand, tilting her head at him. “I’m still here, aren’t I?”
He didn’t answer, just pulled you against him, pressing a kiss to your hair.
You were here. You were still you. Even after everything you both had gone through.
Maybe that was magic too.

IF IT WEREN'T FOR THE BABY𓂃 𓈒 ❀
finnick odair x fem!tribute!reader

synopsis – forced back into the 75th hunger games, finnick decided to play his role for the audience better than ever, staging one last trick to save you. but do you wanna be saved?
caesar flickerman beamed as he welcomed finnick onto the stage. the moment he stepped into the spotlight, the audience exploded—men roared his name, and women called out for his attention, their voices a symphony of the admiration they had for him.
―thank you, thank you so much, ―finnick smiled and waved to the audience who had welcomed him so warmly. the capitol had always adored him, but tonight, their adoration felt almost feverish.
he was especially handsome that night. his stylist had dressed him in a flowing white shirt, its fabric so light it clung to his frame like a second skin. the deep neckline plunged nearly to his navel, just daring enough to tease without crossing into vulgarity. the lower half of his ensemble was a long, fluid skirt that brushed his ankles, swaying effortlessly with each step. around his neck, layers of necklace made from shells, a subtle yet powerful reminder of where he came from.
from your place backstage you could appreciate how finnick's green eyes shone under the spotlights. they also had that lovely glow when he saw you arrive at the back of the stage with your outfit. he wanted to tell you how beautiful you looked but more than that, he wanted to ease the tension he knew was tightening in your chest. he knew better than anyone how uncomfortable these interviews could be, how caesar’s questions often dug too deep, exposing things meant to remain unspoken.
it had been days since you last spoke to finnick—not on camera, not for the capitol, but for yourselves. and now, with the roar of the crowd filling the space between you, it didn’t seem like that silence would break tonight.
you took the moment to let your eyes wander over him when he wasn’t looking. his posture was relaxed, confident, but there was something almost vulnerable in the way he carried himself when he thought no one was watching. but the instant his gaze shifted toward you, you were careful to maintain your composure, keeping your expression unreadable. you didn’t give him even the smallest sign that you had noticed him.
―you look great, ―finnick dared to say, his hands clasped behind his back, the minutes ticking by before he was called onto the stage. he didn't receive an answer from you. you kept your attention fixed on the tributes being interviewed, your face impassive.
now you were backstage, watching him with your arms crossed and with still no expression on your face. the trip had been suffocating, the weight of it all bearing down on you with every passing moment. the capitol had always been a place of cruelty and spectacle, but this time it felt different, more personal.
your attitude hadn't made things easy for fnnick, your mentor mags, not even for yourself. from the instant your names came out through your stay at the tribute's hotel up to that moment, you had been avoiding finnick. mags had tried to bridge the gap, tried to pull you back from the edge, but your anger was like a fire, too fierce to be extinguished. you were pissed off—pissed off at the capitol for forcing you back into the arena with finnick, pissed off at finnick for acting like everything was fine when you both knew it wasn’t, and pissed off at yourself for somehow surviving your first games.
you turned your head when you saw movement, a flash of white fabric. the girl approached you with effie trinket flitted around her, adjusting the layers of the dress with manic precision. you couldn’t help the roll of your eyes.
―a wedding dress. of course, ―you pointed out loud enough for the girl to hear you.
you and that girl liked each other. very similar personalities, highly challenging to the capitol, difficult to contain for president snow. you’d crossed paths a few times during training, exchanging glances that said more than words ever could. you wouldn’t call it a friendship, though. not in the traditional sense but there was a certain understanding between you, a shared rebellion against a system that treated you like pawns. you knew she felt it, too.
―snow made me wear it, ―katniss confessed.
you looked up and down at her and nodded.― make him pay for it.
you turned your attention back to the stage.
―finnick, it is an honor to have you here with us tonight.
they both sat and caesar grabbed both FInnick's hands into his own, shaking them. finnick’s smile remained steady, practiced.
―we thought we would never have you back but we're so glad that we get to see you once again. let's show some love to finnick odair, ladies and gentlemen!
the people in the audience applauded and shouted for him again. you didn’t flinch; you didn’t even blink. your eyes remained fixed on finnick. he looked so... relaxed. you couldn’t deny how well he played the part, the charming victor, the adored tribute who could do no wrong in their eyes. he was so good at pretending.
for a moment, it felt like the air itself was thickening around you. the tightness of the dress, the suffocating fabric pulling uncomfortably at your ribs. was it the capitol’s processed, tasteless food? was it the dress that made it hard to breathe? or was it the deeper disgust at seeing finnick so effortlessly slipping into the role they wanted him to play? even knowing he was faking it, it still made you uneasy.
―the pleasure is always mine, caesar.
―finnick, we saw that dramatic reaping day that took place on district 4 and i think i speak for everyone when i say that we lived it very intensely, ―murmurs of agreement swept through the capitol audience. finnick’s lips pressed together as he nodded. ―first, your name comes out, ten years after your first victory, and then her name comes out and we can see how your expression changes completely. look, look at that. ―the images from that day played on the big screens for the people to watch and you had to look away.
you swallowed and tensed your back, all the memories of that day came to your head unwanted. his name. your heart feeling heavy inside your chest. finnick walking to the center of the stage with a smile on his lips. his eyes on you telling you to not worry. your name. gasps from the people of district 4. finnick's jaw clenching. it became difficult for him to breathe. you walking to the center of the stage next to him with no smile on your lips. you shook hands. people clapped for you two.
―are you okay? ―katniss placed her hand on one of your shoulders and you nodded, closing your eyes and focusing on your breathing.
―people in district 4 love drama, ―a familiar voice chimed from behind you, cutting through the moment like a sharp knife. the girl in her tree and wood-inspired outfit approached you and katniss with a devilish smile on her lips. ―it's already done, girl. your name came out already and you are here. get yourself together. snow is watching, don't embarrass yourself like this.
the relationship you had with johanna mason was complicated—one moment you could almost call her a friend, and the next, she was pushing you to the edge. finnick, on the other hand, seemed to have mastered the art of dealing with her.
―we have been informed that she has expressly asked not to be here with you tonight, how does that make you feel?
―well, it makes me feel sad, obviously. as everybody knows, she is a very special person to me and i think we could've handled this situation much better together. things have been difficult but i strongly believe we are the best allies, in and out of the arena. the love i have for her keeps me from having any negative feelings about her not wanting to sit with me here tonight, caesar. i just hope that you all can enjoy her later.
―i'm sure we will have the best time with her. she's lovely, very lovely.
people clapped. they loved Finnick. you could see it on their faces every time the boy opened his mouth, how they nodded their heads to everything he said. in a way you were grateful for it, when the time came you knew they would rather save him.
―as you said, she'll be sitting here later and we know she's back there now, probably watching us and waiting for her moment. finnick, is there anything you'd like to say to her?
finnick nodded and acted for a few seconds as if he was looking for the words. as if he hadn't had this planned. ―my love, you have my heart. all eternity. and if i... if i die in that arena, my last thought will be of your lips.
―oh, finnick! you're going to make our hearts melt! when did you became such a loverboy?
―i've always been, caesar.
they all laughed.
johanna's laughter echoed in the space, mocking sound that you could never quite ignore. you ran your hand over your face, trying to hide the frustration. maybe johanna was right, maybe the people of district 4 really did thrive on drama. and the capitol? they just couldn’t get enough of it. katniss was left speechless, him and his ability to make those things sound natural surprised her. finnick reminded her of peeta.
―forgive me but i must ask because i know people are dying to know. is everything okay between you two? has the quarter quell been the cause of any couple crises?
people in the audience laughed again and so did finnick. he didn't find it funny but laughed anyway which made you angrier.
―no, that has not happened, no. we have had our ups and downs since that day, as you said, there have been a lot of emotions going on. we had plans for the future but we are trying to get through it.
―i'm sorry, finnick, but you can't leave us like this. plans for the future? tell us more about that.
―we were trying for a baby.
that statement hit you like a big wave and swept you breathlessly to the seashore. you heard johanna chuckling and katniss, on the other hand, was as surprised and as confused as you were. people in the audience got up from their seats, demanding more information, asking if there was a wedding planned, and questioning if you were already pregnant.
the world froze around you, the noise from the audience growing distant, muffled, like the roar of the ocean in a storm.
―no, we weren't, ―the words escaped your lips before you even had time to stop them. the two girls beside you turned to look at you, startled by the intensity in your voice. ―no, we weren't! ―you tried to go on stage, angry like the sea during a storm and about to do something foolish that you would regret later and for which mags would tell you off.
johanna was quick to step in front of you to prevent that from happening. effie let out a little scream, seeing the scandal that was being made. ―whoa, easy there
―johanna, move.
she shook her head at you, smirking. that smirk. she knew all along.
―i'm not asking, johanna. move.
johanna, again, shook her head at you.
behind you, effie let out a nervous little laugh,―ladies! let's mind our manners and a let's calm down. please.
―he knows snow is not canceling the games. he's saving you.
―i do not need him to save me. i do not want him to save me. if i have come all this way, it is to save him.
johanna smiled. ―well, he beat you to it.
―what's going on? ―peeta appeared and effie jumped on his neck to fix the white suit he was wearing.
―she's pregnant, ―johanna answered him.
―i'm not!
―congratulations, ―the boy from district 12 told you.
―i'm not pregnant!
the chaos in the audience refused to die down. the capitol loved a scandal, and finnick had just handed them one wrapped in gold and tied with a ribbon. the murmurs had turned into full-blown shouting. you could see caesar lean in towards finnick, whispering something in his ear. whatever was said, finnick didn’t argue. he simply nodded, his face unreadable, and allowed himself to be led toward the back of the stage.
―girl from 4, you're next, ―one of the capitol staff said. his fingers tightened around your arm, already trying to drag you toward the stage as caesar worked to redirect the audience’s attention.
you yanked your arm free with a sharp twist of your body, stepping back before they could grab you again. ―get off of me. i'm not going anywhere.
finnick said goodbye to the audience, his smile faded the moment he stepped off the stage. he knew what was waiting for him there, an even angrier you who would not understand why he had done that. all this time moving around the capitol and with much of your relationship on display for everyone, and you still hadn't learned how to play the real game.
―i'll go for her. i'm ready, ―peeta offered instead of you. the man seemed satisfied and before walking peeta to the stage, he warned you that you would go after the boy from district 12 whether you liked it or you didn't.
finnick walked with his head down. you were no longer interested in Johanna but you were surprised by the way she and finnick shared a look of complicity when he passed by your side. his eyes never landed on you but they did on his friend. you turned around and walked after him. your fists were close, your jaw was tight.
you pushed him by his shoulders, now it was finnick who seemed unbothered. you shoved him again, harder this time, but he barely reacted. he just kept walking, his face unreadable. he was calmed, he did what he thought it needed to be done.
people in the capitol will have mercy on you, you will have plenty of sponsors and you will make it out alive. but you didn't want that. you wanted him to be the last one standing, you had already discussed that with mags. the woman assured you that she'd do anything in her power to get finnick out alive.
―why did you do that to me?! who gave you the right to do that?! finnick i swear to god if you don't speak to me right now!
―oh, now you want to talk, don't you? what happens if now i don't feel like it? would you like that? would you like me ignoring you like you've been doing with me for the past days?
by the way his eyes looked at you and the way he had said it, practically spitting the words in your face, you knew he had been holding it in for days. you shook your head. ―it's not the same.
―oh but it is. trust me. you just don't want to see it. and for your information, it was mags. she gave me the right, ―he turned around and answered your previous question. ―you didn't expect that? did you think you were the only one she made promises to?
you clenched your jaw. you did think that. whatever she'd promised finnick would contradict the promises she had made to you, so she was clearly fooling one of you two. and you knew it wasn't finnick.
―you made me look weak!
―but you're not so why do you care? right now you have more than half of those people in the palm of your hand. you could need the stupidest thing in the arena and they would send it to you without even thinking about it. they will make you the victor.
―i didn't want that! i didn't want that and you don't even care!
―you're right, i don't.
―you bastard, ―you threw yourself against his chest, hitting him with your small hands compared to his body. he was still standing on the spot while you beat him with tears in your eyes out of anger.
―come on, come on, give him a break, ―haymitch, who went backstage to be with katniss when he saw peeta on stage, tried to separate you from finnick by grabbing you around your waist.
―why don't you save all that anger for when we're in the arena? it'll be better.
―finnick! ―effie said, shocked.
―i fucking hate you, ―you mumbled. while Haymitch managed to get you away from finnick, your hands grabbed his shirt, he wasn't going to get off that easy, not after that comment. your body shook against district 12's mentor.
―i could really use a helping hand right now, you know? ―haymitch struggled to hold you. katniss and Johanna freed finnick from your grip and he left. you tried to go after him but obviously, you couldn't do anything against three people. as you continued to fight to free yourself from his grasp, peeta's voice sounded louder over the loudspeakers, getting your attention.
if it weren't for the baby.
you looked at katniss and she looked at you, still trying to process what had just come out of peeta's mouth and trying to find a way of not going into that stage and choke him to death. now you were going to be the one who was going to hold her down.
―qell, congratulations to you two. you are going to be amazing moms if you make it out of this one alive.

Summary: Being Snow's daughter, he puts you up with an arranged marriage just to turn the tide on the 75th hunger games' bitterness. Which victor will claim your hand under his watchful eye? [series]

With a blank stare in your eyes, you wanted to forget about the world. Curled up in bed, one hand hidden underneath your pillow for support. Half of your face buried deep into the softness of the pillow. Forget about the bellowing words that were haunting your mind. Pestering it with nothing but an aching soul.
Your heart craved tears, but you didn’t want to satisfy him into given them. For he had torn down your dreams and hopes with one decision. A decision made for pure sports and pleasure. No regards to you whatsoever. For he did not care for a counter-comment or protest. His word was final and that was just the way it was. For no one defied against the president.
Gentle knocks at your door, made you hum loud as a response. The door opened as you let your eyes go briefly up to the colourful, feathered figure. Her dress as pompous as a peacock. – “My lady.” – she spoke folding her hands neatly in front of her. – “You are requested at diner.” – she informed you with a curtsy. Withholding a sigh, you dragged yourself up.
Leaving your save nest to indulge yourself with the wealth again. Nodding once at her, you let her know to proceed. She turned on her heel, pushing the doors open. You followed on foot, remaining a few paces behind her. Watching how she waved her handkerchief at some guards. Guards standing watch inside the mansion at every given position.
“The president has requested a special banquet for you.” – she spoke. Always referring to him as ‘the president’, never as his other position. Your father. She giggled when pushing the doors open. Immediately bowing. – “My president.” – she spoke with sweetness, dipping her nose low. When rising once more, her hands gestured at you whilst moving aside.
Making room for you to enter more. At the end of the long table, he sat. Dipping his mouth with a napkin, before placing it on his lap. – “Come, come.” – he ordered with a smile. Inviting you over. You swallowed softly, going round the table to come sit down at his right side. Sitting in front of your sister who aided his left side.
She smiled briefly at you before picking up her glass of red wine. Sipping from it with her face turned away. Snow reached for a bread, breaking it in two. Stuffing it in his mouth with little care. Your gaze went from him to your sister. Seeing both of them eat as if nothing had occurred. As if not a few hours ago, your father had called you to his study.
Called you in to inform you of the spectacle he had in mind for the upcoming 75th hunger games. A spectacle to lure in more watchers for he needed all of Panem to watch. A cry to deafen out the anger raging from within the previous victors. A marriage of pure spectacle. As his youngest and unmarried daughter that privilege was preserved for you.
A privilege you couldn’t refuse nor decline. Your sister’s gaze went up to father, smiling grinningly. He returned with one of his own. As if having cooped this up together. There and then you wanted to slam your fist against the table. Call in for this nonsense to stop, but you couldn’t. You couldn’t give him the satisfactory of being this distressed about it. It only gave him more power over you.
Riling him up with the thrills of being rebelled against. A trigger point of some sort. – “Are you not hungry?” – Snow spoke watching with folded hands at you. You immediately picked up your fork. He started chuckling, sitting slouched back in his seat. Across from you, let your sister out the most humiliating sound. Arf. Mimicking a dog just to taunt you more. His obedient daughter.
Moulded and manipulated for perfection. Clenching your grip around your fork, your expression hardened at her. Tempering your anger down till it drowned out. Father merely chuckling at her comment. His hand fell down on yours. Patting it a few times as his chuckle slowly died.
You inhaled deep watching yourself in the mirror. Seeing how the designers were laying down the final touches to the dress. From the speakers and on the screen you could see him. Chat with the victors of previous years. Trying to lure out some charisma, yet nothing but grudges and rebellion performed. Giving him a hard time to turn the tide. Not even his dry laugh could help him.
A woman whispered in your ear you were ready. Turning your posture, you followed them through a long corridor filled with bright lights and red flooring. There you waited for the announcement. Gliding your gaze up to the screen. Seats filled with crowds. Caeser laughing dryly, leaning back in his chair till he came sitting up straight.
A finger pressed against his ear. Listening in with a serious expression. – “What is this? A surprise announcement.” – he explained so the crowd would be tipped with curiosity. Humming loud with nods, he listened further. Suddenly getting up. – “Ladies and gentlemen!” – he called out through the microphone. – “It’s a premier. A tip of the iceberg.” – he touched his nose with a wide smile.
“We are honoured with a special guest.” – echoed through his microphone. Taking a deep breath, you readied yourself. Caeser turned his posture half, gesturing at the entrance where other victors had come from. – “May I present you, Y/n Snow!” – announcing with joy as the panels slid aside. Blinding you with bright lights and a dazzling view.
Taking the first steps, you stepped onto the red flooring. Eyes slowly adjusting to the brightness as the crowd became more visible to you. An entire arena packed with folks of Panem. Caeser chuckled between clenched teeth, clapping his hand against the microphone. Applause erupting from within the crowd. Caeser exaggerated a gasp at the sight of your dress. A wedding dress.
Extending his hand to you, you accepted it. Letting him guide you closer. – “Always a pleasure.” – he whispered to you before pressing a deep kiss against your cheek. – “Ladies and gentlemen, Y/n Snow!” – Caeser shouted loud, parading your hand up in the air. Applause becoming deafening.
Caeser settled them down with gestures till it became silent. He took a deep breath inside the microphone to exaggerate his expressions. – “Y/n Snow, a little birdy has told me something.” – he spoke quirking an eyebrow up. – “That this is no ordinary dress, but in fact… your wedding dress.” – he continued, looking from you to the crowd from time to time.
“That is correct.” – you responded with a smile. Knowing your father was watching. Knowing it had to be perfect. Caeser came closer, leaning in with curiosity. – “Well who is the lucky guy?” – he asked, turning to the crowd then. – “Wouldn’t you all want to know?” – he questioned at the crowd as they erupted in cheers.
It made you smile a bit more pleasurable. – “So darling, who is it. We are all very eager to hear.” – Caeser had turned his attention to you once more. You lowered your gaze, breathing out a short laugh. – “He is yet to be known.” – you explained. Making Caeser look visibly confused. You cleared your throat, stepping further up to the crowd. Facing one of the camera’s directly.
“For whichever victor of the 75th hunger games marries me, shall be bestowed with privileges beyond dreams for their district and the game.” – you announced. Gasps and whispers filled the room. – “Well… well this is something remarkable. Privileges for all the excitements in exchange for the hand of this lovely woman.” – Caeser spoke through the microphone.
“Well I certainly know what I would choose.” – reaching for the hand by your hip. Raising it to plant a kiss on your knuckles. – “Miss Y/n Snow!” – he declared one last time, letting the crowd give you another round of applause. Upholding your smile, you soaked in on the applause for a few moments before returning. Smile dropping once you were out of sight. – “You were an absolute delight.” – one of the designers came cooing at your side. – “Get me out of this dress!” – you insisted upon, sounding rudely irritated.
Changed into something more suitable, you were forced to join the victors in the grand room. Where they get to know each other and seek out each top quality. You paused midtrack, gaze going upwards. From behind the glass, stood your father. Raising a glass to you. Bowing your head slightly at him, you acknowledged him. Taking a soft breath, you faced away from him.
Seeing how several victors were glancing your way. Observing you with something unknown in their glances. Taking a stand somewhere further away, you weren’t entirely sure what was to happen now. Glancing upwards to where your father was, still watching behind the safety glass. Sensing a presence, you turned your head. A young guy having approached you. – “Gloss.” – he introduced himself.
You recognized him from district 1. He certainly had the cockiness for it. Forcing yourself to smile, you allowed him to take your hand to leave a tender kiss on your knuckles. – “So miss Snow.” – he spoke as you immediately corrected him. – “Y/n.” – forcing out to be addressed like that. He cleared his throat, looking nervously over his shoulder.
You noticed the girl from his district signalling to him. He turned his posture towards you again with a wide smile. – “So… what do these privileges include? Not that I need them, but if I can snatch them right from under the nose of any of the other pathetic victors, I call that a win.” – he responded.
“I do not know…” – you sighed out. – “Only my father knows.” – continuing as your attention drifted away. Knowing what kind of deal this would be. Victors faking and pleasing you to gain your affection or your father’s approval for marriage and return a praised victor to their district.
Gloss hummed deep. He left your side. Keeping an eye on the glass to be sure your father was watching. Picking up a weapon, he threw it with little effort right into the bullseye. Smiling up at your father, he bowed. Waiting for a praise from him. Your father merely tapped his fingers against his glass. A minor applause for him. Sighing soft, your shoulders slouched. For the spectacles had begun. A game of lies and praising for your father, not you. You were but a pawn in the middle of the board to reach the king.
“Sugar cube?” – the sudden new voice caught you off guard. Rapidly turning your head at the blonde boy from district 4. – “I mean it’s supposed to be for the horses, but… who cares about them right?” – he went on throwing in a charming smile. – “I do.” – you responded reaching for the sugar cube in his hand.
He threw it up, catching it again as your hand had moved back. – “You don’t look very happy for your wedding day.” – he answered letting the cube roll between his fingers. – “It’s not my wedding day.” – you reminded him. He hummed curiously. Brushing his fingers at his chin thoughtfully. Sucking in a breath before speaking.
“Did big old pops arrange this all for you.” – he spoke with half a smile. – “Let me guess, deducting is one of your top talents.” – you replied with a sarcastic undertone. He chuckled amusingly at your witty remark. Your eyes widened confused when he neared. Bringing his face close to yours to whisper at your ear. – “Actually it’s my charm.”
When he moved his head back, his eyes lingered on you. Breath hot on your lips from how close he was. – “My father would love that.” – you responded taking a step back. Finnick chuckled, lowering his gaze. – “Your father is of no interest to me.” – he said, guiding you further away from his prying eyes. – “Then who is?” – you questioned. Nearing a wall.
When Finnick came standing in front of you, forcing you to fall back against the wall with his gesture. A gasp leaving your mouth as his fingers could brush your hair from how he had positioned his hand above your head. Slowly leaning in closer. – “Are you trustworthy, sugar?” – he formed. More of a question to himself than to you.
Nervously you swallowed, wanting to look away, but his gaze kept you locked in. His eyes going from your eyes to your lips and again. Battling for each micro expression of yours. Knowing you were out of sight for your father now. – “My father will honour his deal…” – you spoke unsure what he wanted.
“That is not what I asked.” – Finnick made clear that he requested something else from you. – “Then what…” – you begun words cut off by Finnick grabbing you by your chin. Staring intensely into your eyes. Trying to read your soul for it reflected in a person’s eyes.
“Odair!” – a stern gravelly voice called out. Finnick took a step back, letting go of you. Both his hands up in defence. – “I was merely getting to know her.” – he called back, casting you a wink. Blinking flustered at his gesture, you looked past him to the guard. – “I am alright. Mister Odair only helped me with my necklace.” – you lied with a pleasing smile.
A smile you had fooled your father with many times. The guard grunted deep, giving Finnick a poke in the side with his stick. Forcing him away from you. Finnick obeyed, looking over his shoulder back at you with a smirk. Another guard guided you back into the open. There you came sitting down on one of the steps. Watching some of the victors practise.
“Must be hard for you.” – a new voice settling on your attention. Looking up, the boy from district 12 was standing in front of you. He curled up a shy smile unsure of the invitation. You motioned with your head to the side that it was alright. Peeta came sitting beside you, elbows resting on his knees. – “I’m sorry this is forced upon you.” – he spoke, looking in front of him. – “It’s not your doing.” – you responded. – “Nor yours I reckon.” – was his response.
Making both of you catch a glimpse of each other. Forming a smile. Chuckling nervously, Peeta and you looked back away. – “My father has his motives.” – you formed after some silence. Rubbing your hands nervously between your knees. – “With no regards to his daughter?” – Peeta answered with a quizzable brow.
It made you pull your shoulders up. – “I just hope this union, might do something good for me.” – you dared to speak. Unsure how, but being around Peeta felt comforting and save. Peeta turned his posture more towards you. Intrigued. Exhaling soft, you batted your gaze up to the ceiling. – “It might free me from the capitol’s masquerade.” – lowering your gaze, it felt like a distant dream.
“All my life everything has been told for me. All I needed to do was in order of my father. I never had a voice of my own… I still don’t…” – you continued trying hard to keep any tears at bay. To change the ache in your heart, you laughed the silliness away. – “I’m not sure I would even be a benefit to anyone here.”
Peeta’s hand covered yours up that was on your knee. – “Don’t settle yourself so low.” – his words comforting and warm. Lifting your head up, you met up with his gaze. Seeing how warmly he smiled your way. It made you smile back. It might not be real, but that was okay. In this moment, you felt cherished.
The loud blowing of a whistle, made you snap out of it. All the victors were requested to leave and return to their quarters. Peeta got up, hesitating to follow the others. – “Will you be okay?” – he asked with concern. Humming loud with a nod, you reassured him. Peeta curled up a saddened smile before joining the others.
From the gathering crowd, you noticed Gloss. Blowing you a kiss from afar. Catching Finnick shake his head with a roll of his eye behind him. Mimicking Gloss by making him look stupid and blunt. Making you laugh from afar. From your reaction he bowed with a charming smile before disappearing.
Silence filled the training room as you were left alone. Gaze going upwards to the window where he still stood watching. His stern gaze made your smile drop. Two guards approaching you to escort you. With his piercing gaze on your back, you left through another set of doors. Unsure what your father had in mind, for it was always about him. To be continued.

-Finnick Odair x reader
Synopsis: {Finnick says those three special words}
He’s so boyfriend! 💕 enjoy my lovelies
The sun is setting, casting hues of pink and orange that shimmer along the ocean water. It’s a mesmerising sight that you can’t seem to stop looking at, despite the fact that you and Finnick come to this beach almost everyday.
He watches you with a soft smile, his heart hammering inside his chest at the way the afternoon sun kisses your skin making you glow in the most prettiest of ways. His eyes take in the shape of your lips and the curve of your nose. He’d study you for hours upon hours if you’d let him.
“You’re staring” You smile, turning your head to the side to look at him. His face reddens slightly with embarrassment, trying to cover it up with a smirk.
“I’m just enjoying the view” He replies with a playful wink, chuckling at the way you roll your eyes.
The sea ripples at your ankles as you dig your fingers through the sand looking for seashells. You have a small collection consisting of only three shells; one for the time you and Finnick went on your real first date, another for the day he got reaped and one for when he came back from winning his games.
All of them are different shapes, colours and sizes sitting neatly on your bedside table. They were the only things that got you through the days where he was gone, the memories of him live through the groves of the shells and the sound of the sea that’s trapped within them.
“This one… this one is perfect” You tell him holding up the small shell. It’s chipped slightly at the top but besides from that, it’s in great shape. You hold the shell up to his eyes nodding your head softly.
Finnick frowns ever so slightly, eyebrows pulled together in confusion as he watches you press the seashell up to the side of his face. “What are you doing?” He chuckles softly looking over at your hand.
“It matches your eye colour” You whisper as you study the different shades of greens and blues, how some are darker and lighter in areas and how they come together to mimic his eyes.
Finnick thinks you might’ve just broken him, the teasing words die on his tongue and suddenly he’s finding it hard to breathe.
“You’re gonna add it to your collection?” He grins softly as you nod, making a comment about how you’re gonna start a shrine dedicated to him and he doesn’t bother hiding the blush that dusts his cheeks.
He does the same thing, his eyes glancing up to yours and then to the sandy floor in search of a seashell. He picks up one, then another and holds them up to your eyes, his warm hand grazing against your cheek as he does so.
“You’re so beautiful” He whispers, taking notice of how the sunlight hits your eyes. You tilt your chin down to your chest as a breathless giggle falls from your lips and Finnick wastes no time in holding your jaw gently, making you look up at him.
“Why’re you shying away from me honey?” He smirks and you curse him silently because he knows damn well what he’s doing to you, especially when his thumb begins to soothe against your cheek and the space just under your eye.
“I’m not shying away” You breathe glancing down at the seashells that lay in his palm. “Have you found a match yet?” You ask before he can continue with his teasing.
Finnick looks down at the shells with a smile. “Hmm?… oh yeah, this one” He says as he hands you the seashell that matches your eye colour, it twists into a cone and the end is chipped off.
They both sit in the palm of your hand, one that resembles his and one that resembles yours, and there’s something about it that melts him, the thought that no matter what happens you’ll always have a reminder of him.
“I’m gonna add them to my collection” You smile as his eyes meet yours, full of love, an overwhelming feeling that bleeds into his chest and he just can’t seem to get enough of.
The words fall so effortlessly from his lips and he doesn’t hide away from them. “I love you” It’s such a simple declaration but the way he says it takes you back. His tone is soft but passionate, dripping with affection. A soft gasp escapes you as the words linger in the air.
Before Finnick can even begin to question himself you’re already wrapping your arms around his shoulders, hugging him tightly. “I love you too Finn” You whisper against his neck, the smell of sea salt lingers in his hair.
It’s all he’s ever wanted and more, stored in those special words and now he’s said it once he’s never going to stop. He rests his forehead against yours, his hand against your cheek as he kisses you softly, noses bumping against each other’s slightly.
“I love you so much” He says once more, against your lips with a smile. You whisper the words back in between sweet kisses that soon taper off, breaking slowly as the pair of you smile uncontrollably. He glances down at the shells in your hand, the same ones that’ll sit on your bedside table for years to come.

Peace | Coriolanus Snow
Pairing: Coriolanus Snow x reader (fem!District12!Baird!reader)
Summary: Coriolanus Snow never thought that he would find peace, until he did.
Warning/s: Snow being in love, Snow being Snow, talk about death (reader is alive, don't worry), possible grammar and spelling mistakes
Author's note: Inspired by one and only Taylor Swift.

Our coming-of-age has come and gone
Suddenly the summer, it's clear
I never had the courage of my convictions
As long as danger is near
And it's just around the corner, darling
'Cause it lives in me
No, I could never give you peace
Coriolanus Snow could swear that the rustling of the grass beneath his shoes couldn't be louder as he walked in the Meadow.
However, even though he felt an odd irritation towards that, he felt good. He was finally able to get rid of his Peacekeeper white uniform which he replaced with a simple white shirt and some gray pants that he found. His dog tag was still hanging from around his neck. He forgot to take it off from all of the haste when he was trying to find you as fast as he possibly could once his shift ended for the day.
The wind was dancing gracefully across the leaves on the trees surrounding the always oh so peaceful Meadow just a little outside of the border of District 12.
District 12.
Coriolanus Snow was still a little bit doubtful when it came to the loser District.
He could remember his hated towards, well, everyone and everything when he found out that he was going to be deported for the Peacekeepers. He could still remember that empty feeling when he sat at, what seemed like, the most uncomfortable chair in the world as someone started to cut his blonde locks away.
He lost everything. Every hope for the better.
That is up until it was reported to him that he could chose any District in all of the Panem that he wished.
Coriolanus could've been deported to a nice, clean District like 1 or 2. Yet he chose the poorest District of all. The words "District 12" left his mouth without the second thought when the authorities asked him where he wanted to be deported. He didn't even speare one single thought as he said it.
He asked himself, why did he do it? The question wouldn't leave his mind. It haunted him every day. It clouded his ever racing mind.
Why did he do it?
Yet now, he finally spotted a figure sitting on a giant rock, playing the guitar while muttering the words as she tried to write yet another masterpiece that he was going to cherish forever.
Your hair was flowing around in the wind as your fingers graced the strings of your guitar that Coriolanus got for you from the Capitol.
He tried to stay as quiet as he possibly could. He didn't want this moment to end. He didn't want you to stop singing so he froze once he got close enough so he could listen to you for a bit.
Even the mockingjays on the trees seemed to quiet down as you played the guitar. They were soaking up every melody, every note that you decided to grace the word with.
"And it's just around the corner, darling
'Cause it lives in me"
Your melodic voice rang around the Meadow. So quiet yet so powerful. Graced with softness and pure care. He didn't deserve you. He knew that.
Suddenly nothing mattered anymore. The only thing that truly mattered was the fact that you were alive.
Every doubt he had racing, cursing, his mind vanished forevermore as he listened to you sing and play your guitar, when he saw you performing with the rest of the Covey, your family, the night after he got deported to 12.
Right now, nothing was more important to him than you. He didn't care about his deportation, about Dr. Gaul, about Highbottom.
Maybe he was clueless. Maybe it was his fault for letting himself feel vulnerable in this very moment in the Meadow outside of 12. Or maybe he was just young and dumb for finally letting his guard down... but he felt like there was hope for him at last. Because you were here. You were alive, and if he had to mess up his reputation and lose everything once more just so he could here the sweetest of melodies leaving your lips he was sure that he would do it.
"No, I could never give you peace"
But I'm a fire, and I'll keep your brittle heart warm
If your cascade ocean wave blues come
All these people think love's for show
But I would die for you in secret
The devil's in the details, but you got a friend in me
Would it be enough if I could never give you peace?
Coriolanus felt himself freeze completely.
His brain nor his body was working anymore as he watched the screen along with the rest of his classmates that were chosen to be mentors for this year's tributes in the Hunger Games.
The scene was tough to watch. He wanted to look away yet he found himself unable to do so.
No matter how hard he tried he couldn't rip his eyes away from the screen that showed reaping the tribute he was supposed to mentor.
A girl from District 12.
He felt uneasy the moment he found out who he was supposed to be mentoring, he felt like his hope was lost. His hope for winning the Plinth Prize and repearing his reputation was ruined. He was ruined.
But now, as he watched you step in after your name was called out, he felt unfamiliar feeling of pure warmth growing and spreading in his chest, consuming him completely. The feeling was unknown, it made him feel weak. Out of control. He hated it.
Yet, as Coriolanus watched your hair bounce as you stepped out of the crowd in the middle of the square, he felt like he would fight the devil himself just so he could make sure that you were safe, that you were going to get out of the arena alive.
He watched your expression and your posture. You were trying to appear as calm and unbothered as possible. You were successful in your attempt, but he saw right through it.
Perhaps it was because he found himself in the similar position as he watched you or perhaps he simply observed a bit too closely.
Whatever it was, it did not prepare Coriolanus Snow for what was about to happen.
°
Why am I here? What am I doing?
These are the questions Coriolanus asked himself as he unintentionally, yet at the same time quite intentionally, tried to seek some warmth from his red Academy's uniform in his pathetic attempts to warm himself up a bit in the middle of a very cold night on his way over to the zoo where you were forced to stay before the games started.
The food wrapped in a handkerchief that had his father's initials on it started to feel too heavy in the pocket of his uniform.
Feeling the cold shiver run down his spine he realized that it's not from cold or from the fear of the Peacekeepers blocking his way over to you in the middle of the night. No. It was something else. Something he was aware of, but couldn't yet admit it to himself.
He watched every step he took so as to not startle you in the cage of the zoo.
As he got closer, he realized that he saw a figure in the dark leaned against the bars of the zoo's cage.
It was you, of course. You were looking up at the sky as your hair slightly flew around in the light, cold night's breeze.
At first he thought that his plan to play star-crossed lovers was a dumb call. That it was bad. Mentor falling desperately, hopelessly in love with his tribute was just madness and quite a desperate attempt to draw some good public's attention to give you a shot at surviving in the arena was quite pitiful, truly. Where was his head at, at that moment? Who would ever fall for that nonsense?
But as he saw how the people thrived for a tragic pair of star-crossed lovers and as he realized that good citizens of the Capitol loved a good tragic story, he came to a conclusion that maybe all of this was actually worth it.
More importantly, as he called out your name quietly as to not startle you and alert other tributes he figured that it was a right call after all.
Especially when, even tho a part of him didn't want to, as he came over to you on the other side of the bars, gave you food that he smuggled from the Academy, wiped your long lost tear as it streamed down your beautiful cheek, as he soked in your beauty, admired your gentil kindness and finally as he kissed you like he needs you more than an oxygen that he has to breath over the empty space in the middle of the bars, he wasn't really pretending after all.
Yet when it was time for him to go home just so his absence doesn't go noticed by grandma'am and Tigris, he asked you one thing that was bothering him, eating him alive. One thing that caused him absolute despair from the moment he met you.
"Would it be enough if I could never give you peace?" He whispered in the darkness as he held his hand against your cheek like you were the most delicate rose.
Your integrity makes me seem small
You paint dreamscapes on the wall
I talk shit with my friends
It's like I'm wasting your honor
Coriolanus Snow was hurrying towars the room in the Capitol's Academy in which he will be able to monitor the games along with some of his classmates.
He had to stay at home to help his grandma'am much longer than the would've liked. He was in such a hurry that once he got to the door he literally pushed it open with full force.
He strolled down effortlessly over to his chair so he could look over you as he heard the voice of one and only Lucky Flickerman.
"Now that is an entrance I'm jealous of."
Coriolanus ignored him.
He sat down next to Sejanus Plinth as he reasted his head on his hand as soon as he did that, the look of pure stress overflow his features as his piercing blue eyes locked themselves on the screen watching you.
"I may be wrong." He heard the voice of Sejanus Plinth as he stared at the screen, not looking away. "But it seems to me that you actually, genuinely care about whether or not she makes it out alive."
Coriolanus felt himself freeze for a moment, but he quickly forced himself to gain his composure back.
"I don't-"
"Don't lie to me, Coryo."
He kept his mouth shut after that.
And you know that I'd swing with you for the fences
Sit with you in the trenches
Give you my wild, give you a child
Give you the silence that only comes when two people understand each other
Family that I chose, now that I see your brother as my brother
Is it enough?
Coriolanus Snow could still remember the feeling of slight cold breeze as he hoped off of the train in 12 for the first time ever.
His boots stepped right into mud and he closed his eyes for a moment in slight annoyance. What an amazing way to alive here and do the things he was ordered to do.
He gripped more tightly just in hope to gain more confidence that he could actually pull through with this.
He stepped forward, letting out a puf of breath to steady himself.
Just as he was about to step after the rest of the new recruits as the one who is last in line he heard something that he hoped he would hear again. A voice which belonged to the person for whom he decided to go to the poorest District, paying the last bit of money he owned.
"Coryo!" Your voice shouted and he turned around slowly, almost not believing that you're here.
You ran as fast as you could just to get to him as fast as possible.
Your hair was flying around as your ran, the back of your dress dragging itself after you. The lightness of your steps, the graceful way you carried yourself, your eyes, your lips, you.
You collided against him, throwing your hands around his neck as you gripped on his shoulders as tightly as you possibly could, afraid that he will disappear from your grasp once again.
You looked so out of place. You were like a finest, most beautiful rose of all, but that rose grew in the middle of the mud. It fascinated him.
He wrapped his arms around you instantly, gripping your body strongly yet at the same time gently as he brought you to his body even closer. You felt like if he pulled you any closer the two of you would become one person.
He hid his face into your neck, breathing in your flowery scent. It smelled like home. Home which he was forcefully ripped away from, but now he was finally able to return.
"How did you-? What-?" He stuttered, couldn't get the words out.
"Tigris told me you were about to become a Peacekeeper." You got out, still holding onto his arm, your gripp still tight, afraid of losing him again. "However, Sejanus told me that you would arrive to 12."
This took him a back a little.
"You spoke with Tigris?" He asked, his voice not hiding his utter, but non the less happy, shock.
"We wrote to each other." You answered with a smile. "She's amazing, truly."
He couldn't be happier at this moment, he was so happy that it scared him.
But maybe, as he watched your smile and took your hand into his, pressing your palms against each other, he realized that just maybe life in the poorest District won't be as bad as he was afraid.
But there's robbers to the east, clowns to the west
I'd give you my sunshine, give you my best
But the rain is always gonna come if you're standing with me
One thing was for sure, life after the games was not easy.
You would have nightmares. He didn't know about them, you wouldn't told him. That is up until the rest of your family met up with him on a picnic day.
You looked so tired, so pale, you weren't acting like your usual self. It scared him.
That's when Lucy Gray pulled him aside after she saw his worried gaze on you the entire day. What she told him ripped his heart and shattered every piece.
"She's screaming at night." Lucy Gray whispered just so you wouldn't catch them, not that you could, you were so tired you were barely awake. "She has nightmares about the arena."
When he later on confronted you about your nightmares just so he could help you somehow you broke down.
You told him that maybe it wasn't the best idea for him to be with her. You were sad a lot more often, the screaming because of nightmares and everything else haunted you.
Before you could say anything else, tho. He kissed you like he would die without you.
"You're safe with me." He mumbled against your lips. "We can have a future here together, that is if you will have me."
"Of course I will Coryo, but-"
"No but's, then, my love." He told you, taking the handkerchief out of nowhere as he wiped away your tears that continued to stream down your face.
"Here, away from every harm, away from the games... maybe I could finally give you peace."
Would it be enough if I could never give you peace?
Would it be enough if I could never give you peace?

Dark!Coriolanus Snow x Fem!reader
Here we are! Sorry for the wait, but I thought I had everything planned out and... I didn't, so I'm sorry I made you wait this long❤️❤️❤️
Let me know what you think, please, because this is my first time writing a dark fic, so feedback is highly encouraged in this case🙏🙏🙏
Summary: Y/n has been part of the Covey since she can remember, when her best friend Lucy Gray is chosen for the Hunger Games her world is threatened, she need to stay strong for her family. She's never been one to love attention. She never wants to draw too much anyway, gladly leaving the stage to her best friend, but she managed to catch someone's attention anyway. A young, ambitious man from the Capitol saw her for just a moment, but that was enough to make an obsession grow inside him.
Warnings: dark fic, obsession, harassment, smut, rape.

"Are you sure you want to wear that?" Y/n asks her best friend as they get ready to, yet, another reaping day.
"Of course." Lucy Gray answers, simply as ever, "at least I'll look pretty when they say my name."
"If." Y/n reminds her, "if they say your name."
"After all that mess with Billy Taupe? Mayfair will surely ask her daddy to pull some strings." Lucy Gray slightly scoffs.
"Maybe not..."
"You're too optimistic sometimes." She smiles at her friends, fixing the colourful skirt down.
"I just don't want to think about the worst." Y/n replies, tightening the belt on her own dress.
"Better get used to it."
They share a look, one filled with hope yet resignation too. They smile at each other and walk hand in hand out their home to get to the town square for the annual reaping.
--------------
They hold each other's hand until Lucy Gray's name is announced, and after a quick squeeze, she lets her friend's hand go to walk to the stage.
Y/n's breathing is heavy and frantic. She can't believe it, and when she notices Billy Taupe trying to talk to Lucy Gray, she has to contain herself from hitting him with a shoe... or two.
But her eyes are on her best friend walking up, and then she notices something in her hand. Y/n has to contain her laughter when Lucy Gray puts that something in Mayfair's dress. She can guess it was either a snake or a small lizard. Without much reaction to Mayfair's screams and the mayor's order to help his daughter Lucy Gray walk the stairs, but before she could get on, the mayor slaps her right in the face, making her fall Y/n's feet move on their own, she need to be blocked by a Peacekeeper to realise what was happening. She looks behind her to the rest of the Covey, scared and helpless. So the only thing that comes up to her mind is the only things that always help them all.
Music.
Y/n sings the first verse of one of their favourite songs, and when the other Covey follow Lucy Gray stands up and sings too.
She sends a sad smile to her family before walking away with Jessup and the Peacekeepers.
"Clear the square!" One of the Peacekeepers yells, and everyone starts to walk away to their own business.
"Let's go home." Y/n hugs Maude Ivory, and motion to the rest to follow her.
"Will we ever see her again?" CC asks.
"One thing about Lucy Gray is that she should never be underestimated." She replies, "So... she still hasn't sung her last song."
--------------
Coriolanus Snow is a collected man. Whatever happens to him, he tries his best not to show any reaction to it. But he almost can't help the gasp after he saw the girl from 12. He noticed how she wanted to reach her friend after the mayor slapped her.
Some people would dare say it's love at first sight, Coriolanus doesn't exactly know what to believe, he never felt like that before, he feels like all he could do all day is think of her, just that and it would be almost enough for him... only having her would satisfy him properly.
But he can't risk it... he can't risk his winning for someone he only saw for mere seconds.
He needs to keep his eyes on the real goal.
--------------
When he got home that day and talked to Tigris, he thought he left the girl in the back of her mind.
"I can't even imagine how her family must feel... that girl, did you see her?" Tigris asks, "her eyes when that man slapped Lucy Gray..."
"Yeah... she was ready to jump in and defend her." Coriolanus says casually, "she sang for her."
"I bet they sang a lot together... both of them got a beautiful voice." Tigris guesses, sadness evident in her voice.
"Beautiful indeed." Coriolanus whispers.
Now, his mind is back on her.
That nameless girl from 12. How did she manage to strike him like that? How she stepped out of line to reach her friend, how she sang for her. What was it?
"You okay, Coryo?" Tigris snaps him out of his thoughts.
"Who do you think she was?" He asks.
"Who?" Tigris is confused.
"That girl, the one who sang for Lucy Gray." He specifies.
"Oh... uhm.. I don't know. Her sister? Or maybe a friend, I don't know." She answers, still confused by her cousin's question. "Why do you want to know?"
"No reason." Coriolanus shakes his head, "Goodnight, Tigris."
Without waiting an answer he walks to his bedroom, gets ready for bed and lies on it with one thought in mind.
Surprisingly, not the Hunger Games.
No.
The nameless girl from 12.
--------------
Y/n helped Maude Ivory carry the small television their neighbours landed them so they could keep up with the games and, most importantly, Lucy Gray.
"Remember you have to babysit their babies this week, okay?" Y/n tells the young girl as they plug the television in.
"Of course, are you going to sell your bread?"
"Yes, I left some dough to rise this morning. By tonight, it'll be ready to bake." She assures her.
"Is it on?" CC comes in followed by Tam Amber.
"I think... if I do this." Y/n hits the box hard, and suddenly the screen turns on.
"Careful!" Maude Ivory shouts.
"He told me it needs it sometimes. It's okay." Y/n waves her off as the screen finally shows some movements, still no sound, but it's still something.
"Who is that?" CC asks, as a man appears on the screen wearing a high-collared suit and gelled hair, "is he a clown?"
"Could be..." Y/n sighs.
"Where is he?" Tam Amber asks, getting closer.
"No idea... there are bars behind him... I think..." Y/n tries to answer, but the scene is not clear yet, so she hits the television again.
"Y/n!"
"See? Now it's better." Y/n nonchalantly says, "seems like a cage... wait..."
"There's people inside." CC notices, "are those the tributes?"
"Oh god... probably."
"Can you see Lucy Gray?" Tam Amber asks.
"There... I think she's the only one wearing so much colour." Muade Ivory points at a point in the back.
"Yes, that's her... who's that with her?" Y/n moves closer to the screen, "he looks too cleaned up to be a tribute."
"No idea." CC says.
The host notices them too and apparently asks them to get closer.
Y/n looks more attentively at the guy, inspecting him now closer to the camera, it's clear he's not from the districts.
"Could it be someone from the Capitol?" The little one suggests.
"He could be... but why is he in there?" Y/n sighs, frustrated, "damn it, why can't we hear anything?"
"Y/n! I'm so sorry!" Barb yells from the kitchen.
Y/n is immediately on her feet running to her.
"What happ-" she starts but stops as soon as she see the bowl with the dough she prepared on the floor, "how?"
"I was cleaning and I accidentally hit it. I'm so sorry." Barb Azure explains, apologising again.
"It's..." Y/n lets out a puff of air, "it's okay, I can still save some. Don't worry."
"I'm really sorry."
"It's okay, really." She immediately pick up what she can from the floor, "I can save some. We'll just sell a little less than usual, tomorrow I'll make more."
"I'm..."
"Don't, it's okay, I promise. Go see Lucy Gray on TV, c'mon." She nudges the girl and kneel down to clean, " go."
Y/n watches Barb Azure disappear in the other room, takes a deep breath and goes back to work.
--------------
They managed with selling the bread, the milk, the occasional jewellery Y/n makes and the performance at the Hob to survive.
Y/n hasn't been sleeping well since Lucy Gray entered the Arena. She's glad Jessup and her managed to escape the toher tributes and found somewhere to hide. But Y/n can't help the anxiety devouring her everyday, she tries to ease the Covey, making them distracted with everything she could think of, but even singing and dancing isn't the same.
Y/n decided to forbid them from watching the games after Jill's, she thinks her name was, death and Reaper lined up the corpses of the others. She didn't want to risk them seeing Lucy Gray among them... she doesn't even know is she herself could.
But tonight Y/n feels like she needs to watch, she has to, for Lucy Gray, a way to be with her. She tries to spot her in the arena, and when the screen show Coral and Treech finding her in a air vent, Y/n stands immediately getting closer to the screen, and needs to hold in a scream when Coral manages to male her friend fall.
Out of her hiding space.
Back in the arena.
Suddenly a giant tank is lowered into the arena Y/n feels her breath stop. Nothing good could come out of there, nothing good comes from the Capitol.
The little girl from 8 get closer, thinking it's their signal they're going home, but unfortunately the tank breaks and thousands of colourful snakes creep out covering her small figure, most likely killing her.
They all run, run to a higher ground, the boy from 4 falls and the snakes caught up with him.
Lucy Gray and Coral run, while Reaper lets the snake take him.
Y/n holds her breath as she watches Coral say something to Lucy Gray, unfortunately they never managed to fix the sound so she can't hear them, but she can understand when Coral is dead, as the snakes tie themselves around her.
That leaves Lucy Gray the last one... she's won.
"What..."
Why aren't they letting her out? Usually they stop once there's only one left.
Lucy Gray keeps backing away from the snakes, and Y/n can see her mouth moving, she doesn't hear, but she can guess she's singing. Usually snakes there in 12 like music, maybe she's trying it with the Capitol's ones too.
When Lucy Gray's face points direct the camera it's clear ad the day that she's singing, with all the strength she has.
"Let her out." Y/n whispers.
Suddenly, the screen changes signaling that Lucy Gray indeed won the Hunger Games.
"Oh my god!" Y/n can't help but scream, she doesn't care if everyone is already asleep.
"What's going on?" Tam Amber walks in, sleepy face and all, followed by Maude Ivory.
"She won!" Y/n screams again.
"Lucy Gray won?!" Moude Ivory immediately runs to hug Y/n.
"She did it!"
"Does that mean she's coming home?" CC asks, he too arrived after hearing all the noise, Barb Azure too.
"I think so." Y/n nods, smiling like never before, a heavy burden is finally off her shoulders and she can let out a sigh of relief, "she's coming home."
--------------
"Your life has just begun." Sejanus tells him as they both travel to district 12, "you're gonna do great. We're both gonna do great."
"Just be careful, okay?" Coriolanus says to him, "it's a different world out here."
"Look at the bright side." He simply replies, and Coriolanus sends him a questioning look, "she might be there."
"Who are you talking about?"
"I heard you and Lucy Gray talking once." He starts, "you asked about the girl who sang for her at the reaping ceremony."
"I.." Coriolanus is caught off guard.
"You're lucky, Ma always told me stories when I was younger about love at first sight." He explains, "the way you ask more and more about her... you can't fool me." He lets out a small chuckle.
"And if she's not there?" Coriolanus asks.
"Why wouldn't she?"
"What if they killed Lucy Gray and she just doesn't want to have anything to do with me? How about that?" He challenges.
"They wouldn't. She was a hit, Coryo. There's no reason for them to kill her." Sejanus tells him, "so you know her name?"
Of course he does, it's the very first thing he asked Lucy Gray. He's been reciting her name since he learned it.
"Y/n." He smiles as he says it.
--------------
"You're singing with me tonight." Lucy Gray warns Y/n, as they gather the instruments they need for tonight's performance, the first since Lucy Gray got back.
"I am... so not doing it." Y/n replies, shaking her head.
"Why not?" She pouts.
"Because I... I'm not." Y/n simply answer, not meeting her eyes.
But Lucy Gray doesn't give up so easily, she tries to make eye contact with her friend, she knows she wouldn't resist.
"Give me a good reason." Lucy Gray challenges again.
"Because... The people want you." Y/n tells her, "you're better at singing than me."
"That's not true." Maude Ivory chimes in, "they loved you."
"Thank you..." Y/n says sarcastically, "I'm not doing it."
"Oh c'mon, I got back, think of it as a welcome back present!" Lucy Gray nudges her friend, "pleeeease."
"Nope, I was almost fainting the whole time I was on stage." Y/n shake her head once again, "not gonna happeen" she sings the last bit.
"You had to refuse me with that beautiful voice of yours too?" Lucy Gray accuses with a laugh.
"Yap." Y/n replies, "c'mon, we don't want tot be late."
"This is not the end." Lucy Gray warns her friend before taking her hand and then, with the rest of the Covey, head to the Hob.
--------------
Coriolanus couldn't contain himself, he can't wait to get out and find his girl.
She is his, he can't see it any other way.
They enter the Hob and Sejanus goes to get them a drink, while Coriolanus looks around, taking in the place, listening to the music.
His eyes find themselves on the stage, as a little girl goes to the mic.
"Is it hot in here?"
They must be the Covey Lucy Gray talked so much about, but he still can't spot Y/n. Where could she be?
The audience cheers loudly
"'Cause we're planning on heating it up a set more!" The girl screams, "the one, the only, Lucy Gray Baird!"
Coriolanus' ears perk up at her name, maybe his girl is with her.
Lucy Gray enters the stage, spinning with her guitar in hand, smiling as brightly as ever.
"Oh hey district 12, did you miss me?" She asks the audience, that immediately replies with a loud "Yes!"
"I bet you never expected to lay eyes on me again. And let me tell you, that goes both ways, but I am back. " She cheers, "I sure am back. Oh is that bottle there for me?" She asks pointing at a bottle of alcohol someone's holding up, " oh c'mon y'all, you know I gave up drinking when I was 12," she fakes complain and takes a sip, "just to clear my pipes, just to clear my pipes! Now, how about a song, uh?" Everyone cheers, happy, "but, I can't, you know." The audience lets out confused and discontent noises, Lucy Gray glances slightly at the side of the stage, in the dark Coriolanus can't see anything, "it's been a while and I don't feel like singing alone tonight. But I'm afraid, my sweet best friend, won't do me the favour... how about you help me convince her?"
The audience immediately burst into a wave of cheers and applauses.
"Do you want her?"
The cheering gets louder.
"Y/n!" Lucy Gray yells, "c'mon out, babes!"
"Y/n. Y/n. Y/n!" The audience chants.
And at last, she walks on the stage, glaring at her friend playfully.
Coriolanus heart skips a beat as he watch her walking to her friend, he never thought he could get more enamoured with her, but here she is, and he can't seem to take his eyes off her. The way she takes the guitar Lucy Gray offers her, the way she timidly smiles at the audience, once again glaring at her friend for putting her in this position.
"See? They love you!" Lucy Gray points at the audience, "now, let's show them how it's done!"
Lucy Gray nudges her friend with her hip as Y/n starts to play the guitar.
Coriolanus eyes are solely on her, and she isn't even aware of it, he can afford admiring her a little more before making her his.
--------------
Lucy Gray is the happiest since she managed to have Y/n sing and dance with her, but the moment he notices a familiar pair of eyes he freezes for an instant.
Coriolanus Snow is here in 12, and he's looking, no... he's staring at her friend.
She notices his weird interest in Y/n from the many unusual questions he made when they were talking. She didn't like how he was talking and asking about her friend like that, like he thought she was his already. She always dismissed it as a stupid sensation, maybe it's exactly that, just her sensation. He might like her, but nothing bad... not necessarily. She doesn't want to think bad of it.
Of course she told the Covey about everything that happened in the Capitol, she just didn't mention this particular thing, to protect her.
She take advantage of an instrumental break to tell Y/n.
"He's here." She says.
"Who?" Y/n asks, looking at the crowd, locking eyes with a blonde man.
"My mentor, the one I talked to you about." Lucy Gray answers.
"Is he blonde?" Y/n asks and Lucy Gray nods,"Why is he here?"
"No idea."
Y/n simply shrugs and keeps play while Lucy Gray sings, unfortunately their performance is cut short by Billy Taupe intervention.
"Fuck..." Y/n sighs, keeping playing, "it's not the first time he acts like that."
"I know you miss me, Lucy Gray." Billy Taupe drunkenly says getting closer to the stage, followed by Mayfair trying to stop him.
"You said you wouldn't play with them anymore." She complains.
Lucy Gray looks at the Covey rolling her eyes, Y/n rolls her own in agreement.
Suddenly Billy Taupe almost jumps on stage grabbing Lucy Gray's skirt.
"Don't touch me! After what you did, don't touch me." Lucy Gray orders him, kicking her foot to let him go of her skirt
"Y/n... Please, you're kind, you know you're all not the same without me." He moves to take Y/n's skirt now, "c'mon, make her see reason."
"Let go." Y/n tells him, she moves backwards but his grip makes her stumble and falls to the ground. Lucy Gray kneels to help her pull her skirt back.
A second later Billy Taupe is thrown to the side, making him lose his grip. The two girls look at the direction he was thrown, and they see that blonde man hitting him hard until another recruit stops him and takes him outside.
"Are you okay?" Lucy Gray asks, helping her friend to stand up.
"Yeah, yeah, all good." Y/n nods, "again, not the first time he acts like that."
"God.. I'm sorry.." the brunette says softly, picking up the guitar.
"Not your fault. Only his." She sighs, "I'm kinda glad your mentor was here, he was the only one to help."
" yeah, glad..."
"Is everything okay?" Y/n worries.
"Yeah, it's just weird seeing him here." Lucy Gray dismisses the question easily, "let's go home, c'mon"
"Okay.." Y/n isn't convinced, but decides to let it go for now, "c'mon ladies and gentlemen, let's get home."
"Wanna go practice some songs on the meadow, tomorrow?" Lucy Gray asks as they walk back home.
"I missed it so much, so of course!" Y/n cheerfully replies, earning a just as excited laugh from her friend.
--------------
Lucy Gray and Y/n played all afternoon in the meadow, like old times. It wasn't that long Lucy Gray stayed in the Capitol, but not knowing if she were to come back at all made it feel so much longer.
"I think this part should be a little slower, what do you think?" Y/n would ask after a while of playing 'The Hanging Tree'.
"This last part of the verse, you mean?" Lucy Gray checks, looking at the music sheets.
"Yeah, I think..."
Their heads snap behind them when they hear footsteps nearing.
"Sorry... we..." the same blonde man from the night before speaks, along a dark haired man, "they say we would find you out here."
"You're here... with that uniform.." Lucy Gray nervously chuckles.
"I thought they killed you." He simply says.
"Killed?" Y/n can't help the question.
"He... uhm.." his friend starts.
"I broke the rule to save her life." He answers, faking humbleness.
"The dean... Highbottom, got me on a train and gave me some money. He said you were sent to 8." Lucy Gray is quite confused.
"Change of plans." He would smile, "I'm Coriolanus Snow, by the way." He moves closer extending his hand for Y/n to take.
"She's Y/n, my best friend I told you about." Lucy Gray introduces her.
"Hi.." she shyly greets, taking his hand. She can't help the surprised "Oh..." When he, instead of shaking her hand, kisses the back of it.
"Nice to properly meet you, she talked a lot about you." Coriolanus charmingly smiles, "this is my friend, Sejanus."
"Nice to meet you," Lucy Gray shakes his hand with a bright smile.
"Nice to meet... you... too." Sejanus greets back with a sweet and kind smile.
They look at each other for a moment, just smiling. Y/n never saw he friend smiling like this with someone, she is so focused on her friend that she didn't notice Coriolanus still holding her hand, still looking at her.
"Oh sorry." Y/n finally takes notice of his hand and takes her own back, missing the pout forming on Coriolanus' face.
"All good." He whispers, "we quite enjoy the show yesterday."
"Oh.. yeah, yeah, yeah, it was great... until that guy came in." Sejanus agrees, nervously looking at Lucy Gray.
"Yeah, Billy Taupe can't accept the fact that we manage without him." She replies, smugly.
"Well, he's lucky you got back" Y/n mutters, "thanks, by the way, for getting him off and... also, of course, for saving Lucy Gray." She looks up at Coriolanus.
"A pleasure, really. There's no need to thank me." He replies, hitching to hold her hand again, to hold her to him and never let go, "anything for you."
At that Y/n takes a small step back, feeling a little nervous under his stare.
"We're going to the lake, tomorrow. Do you guys want to join?" Lucy Gray suddenly asks, surprising her best friend.
"Really?" Sejanus checks in, looking at the girls, "we'd like to."
"Of course, a way of thanking you." She assures him, "we usually go and have a sort of picnic."
"We'll look forward to it." Coriolanus too agrees.
"Yeah, it would be nice." Y/n wraps her arms around herself, to shield herself from his eyes.
"She makes an amazing apple cobbler too, the young ones loves it." The brunette praise her best friend, locking their arms together.
"You cook too?" Coriolanus is surprised, pleased, "you didn't tell me."
"She can do a lot of things, a real walking talent." Lucy Gray smiles proudly at her friend, nudging her side. Y/n's cheeks warm up at the compliments, turning her head to look away from them all.
"Always so shy, aren't you?" Coriolanus softly comments.
"She's never been the best with compliments." Lucy Gray softly chuckles, squeezing her friend's arm, "but she deserves them all."
"I'm sure she does." His soft stare makes Y/n shiver, she doesn't know why but she's intimidated by it.
"Uh..." she would start, but her eyes catch something behind the two men, "Maude Ivory." Lucy Gray follows her eyes to the little girl.
"You're friends peacekeepers." She says.
"They must be here for the fight." Y/n guesses, "I'll go handle it."
"I'm coming with you."
"Get the guitar, then." She instructs and Lucy Gray grabs the guitar.
"Hey.. we can't be seen with you, though." Coriolanus quietly tells them.
"That lake is in the woods, no one knows much about it but us, don't worry." Lucy Gray reassures him.
"That's comforting." Sejanus smiles grateful at her and she returns it.
"See you tomorrow then." Coriolanus says looking at Y/n who simply evades his stare, she politely smiles, but that doesn't stop Coriolanus from dreaming about her that night. How right their hands felt together, how beautiful she is so close... he can't wait for the next day.
He feels somehow grateful for Sejanus presence, he's sure Lucy Gray invited them both because she's interested in him. He remembers the little glances she would send his classmate at the Capitol. He will use it to his advantage, he knows how much Sejanus would love to help him get the girl of his dreams, he just needs a little push.
--------------
Y/n is making a new dough for the next day, while they're at the lake it will have time to raise. She's mostly making it to get her mind busy, to sort of preparing herself for the day at the lake with the two peacekeepers.
"Are you okay?" Lucy Gray cautiously asks, walking next to her.
"Whatever do you mean?" Y/n asks back, not glancing once at her friend.
"Mh... you're using that tone, for one." Lucy Gray nudges her, "and... you're kneading that dough as if you're chocking it. I'm pretty sure it's dead."
Y/n doesn't answer right away, she keeps kneading the dough, when she puts it in a bowl she turns to her friend.
"I'm okay." She finally says.
"Something bothering you." The singer gently takes her hand, guiding Y/n to sit with her at the table.
"Are the others sleeping?" Y/n asks, wiping her hands on a towel.
"Yeah, now tell me what's wrong." She softly urges her, "is it about tomorrow? Are you nervous or something?"
"I guess..."
"Why?" Lucy Gray asks, "do you fancy my mentor?" She tries to joke and teases her.
"No." She quickly answers, "no, really, I... it's like there's something off about him... I don't know, maybe it's just me."
Y/n lets out a heavy sigh and looks at Lucy Gray, who looks conflicted herself.
"I... uhm.." she starts, uncertain.
"What..?"
"I felt the same way when I met him... he would ask so many question about you, our life here you know, I could see he wanted to know more and more about you." She explains.
"Me? Why?" Y/n gets even more nervous.
"I think he saw you at the reaping ceremony, when you sang and... I don't know, you caught his attention."
"Oh..."
"We can cancel... or you can stay in, I don't want you to feel forced to go because I didn't think." Lucy Gray takes her hands again, reassuringly.
"No, it's okay... I mean maybe we're just looking too much into it..." Y/n shakes her head, "I kind of want to see if you and the other one move to the next step."
"You noticed.." she blushes slightly.
"You two where smiling at each other like crazy." Y/n smiles sweetly at her friend.
"He's sweet, I saw how he wanted to help the tributes during the games... but please, we don't have to go if you're uncomfortable." She checks.
"I'm fine, I promise." Y/n kisses her hands to assure her, "maybe it's just a misunderstanding. It'll be fine."
"Oh now you're comforting me?" Lucy Gray teases.
"Obviously." She smiles proudly, "how about you... how are you coping with... with the games?"
Lucy Gray's smile drops slightly, looking down at their hands, squeezing them a little tighter, scared she would be taken away again.
"I'm okay... sometimes I feel like I'm still there." Her eyes fill with tears at the memories, "I killed people, Y/n... I..."
"You can't just shake it off, right?" Y/n guesses and Lucy Gray nods without saying a word, "I won't say that I'll understand, I will try sure, I can't promise I will be able to of course, but... I'm with you, Lucy Gray, you're not alone, I won't let you deal with it alone."
Lucy Gray stands, and so does Y/n, she brings her into a warm hug. They hold each other like never before, they hugged in the past sure, but nothing like this. This hug is filled with comfort and safety, something they both need, they don't even want it to end in fear one of them could be taken away again.
"We should get some sleep." Y/n states with a chuckle, but doesn't break the hug.
"Yeah." Lucy Gray laughs, "I think we should." They pull apart, "Sorry, I really needed that."
"So did I."
With that little comfort from each other they can finally go to bed and get some sleep. Even though, Y/n can't really fall asleep so quickly, her mind constantly going to Coriolanus Snow and his eyes, his stare on her. Could it be possible that they're just imagining it or it's true?
She close her eyes for a second and the moment she opens them the first light of day greets her, making her groan.
"Fuck." She mutters out, uncovering herself and getting seated, not so ready to start the day.
"Morning." Lucy Gray's harsh morning voice greets Y/n in the kitchen as she prepares the basket for the picnic, "Did you get some sleep?"
"I did, do not worry." Y/n replies, "just... uh..."
"What?"
"Don't leave me alone with him, okay?"
Once Lucy Gray nods, Y/n gets back at the basket.
--------------
"This time of the year the water is just perfect." Maude Ivory excitedly jumps towards the lake.
"She loves the lake, if you can't tell." Y/n jokes.
"I wouldn't blame her," Sejanus says, "I'll trust her judgement, then."
"You should!" The little girl tells him, loud.
"Are you sure you don't need help?" Coriolanus offers to carry the basket for the tenth time, "I promise it's no trouble."
"And I promise it's fine, thank you." Y/n, once again, denies his help.
Coriolanus can't help the clenching in his jaw, his girl should never, ever, lift a finger. He'll make sure of it.
"We're almost there, anyway. No worries." She tries to chuckle and assure him.
"She's strong." Lucy Gray chimes in, "she never lets me do any heavy work around the house. It's crazy."
"No, well, that's because you're not the best at them." Y/n teases her.
"That's not true!" Lucy Gray laughs, "I got many talents."
"You do... not for handwork."
Lucy Gray gasps, faking offence, while the rest of the group laugh.
"How long have you been friends for?" Sejanus asks, "if I'm not intruding."
"We're basically sisters," Lucy Gray immediately answers, proudly, "our parents died and we got raised by the same person."
"I arrived after them, but everything fell into places so naturally, it felt like I found my family again." Y/n explains, with a big smile.
"Never left each other's side ever since." Lucy Gray takes her best friend's hand as they finally arrive at destination.
"We're here!" CC exclaims and Maude Ivory rushes to get into the water as soon as possible, making Y/n chuckle.
Coriolanus watches her closely, the way she worries about her family, the way she smiles, laughs and shines when she looks at the young ones. The more time he's in her presence, the more he falls in love with her, his desire to make her his growing each moment. His girl, his wife and, one day soon, his first Lady.
--------------
A day at the lake with her family is something Y/n always treasured, and will always treasure. She usually takes a few minutes to herself to enjoy the water, just floating with her eyes closed, she loves how free the stream lets her be.
The Covey always lets her live her peace... at least until it's time to eat, in that moment they would splash her until she gets to shore, earning, everytime, a glare from the poor girl.
And today should be no different, Y/n and Lucy Gray agreed not to make the others suspect their new friend makes them feel a little uneasy. So as Y/n floats on her own, Lucy Gray will try and keep an eye out to let her alone with her former mentor.
"What's she doing?" Coriolanus asks.
"Oh she likes to feel the water on her own." Lucy Gray explains, while Sejanus play with Maude Ivory, "to enjoy the moment."
"Wouldn't she be carried away by the stream?" He wonders.
"Nah, it's like the water knows where she should be."
"That's beautiful, Lucy Gray." Sejanus comments.
"Not my words." She is quick to specify, "hers."
Coriolanus spent the rest of the bath watching her, purposely ignoring his former tribute's stare. She probably wants to protect her friend, he thinks, but he's the only one who can protect her. And that he will.
"I'm starving!" Maude Ivory exclaims getting out the water towards the picnic blanket, "c'mon!"
Almost in an instant the rest of the Covey follows, apart from Lucy Gray who stays with Sejanus and Coriolanus, and Y/n floating not far.
Coriolanus shots his friend a look to tell him to get Lucy Gray away so he could have some time alone with his girl.
"I..." Sejanus stutters out, "I... I brought something. I know you two cooked for us too, so I wanted to bring something as a thanks... for the invite."
"Aaww but that's very sweet of you. You didn't need to." Lucy Gray almost melts at his words.
"I can show you. I mean they're preparing to eat so might as well help them." Sejanus suggests.
"Oh... uh... I mean..." she is hesitant, looking briefly at Coriolanus and at her friend.
"Coriolanus is here to look out for her, don't worry." Sejanus reassures her, but he doesn't know that his friend is the reason she needs to keep an eye out for Y/n.
Unfortunately, she knows she can't refuse, not without raising questions from her family nor suspects from the two peacekeepers.
"Yeah... Okay." She finally says, "but I mean, you don't have to, she's always does that. You can come with us."
"I don't mind." He's quick to reply, "I too enjoy the waters myself."
"See? No troubles at all." Sejanus smiles at her.
"We will call you soon, anyway." Lucy Gray tells him, she means it as a warning, even though Coriolanus doesn't register it that way.
"We'll be here." He smiles charmingly as always as he looks at the two climbing on the wooden deck and towards the Covey. She still watches over her friend.
As Coriolanus finally can enjoy the view he can notice her floating gently towards him.
'The water knows where she should be' Lucy Gray said, and the water is bringing her to him.
Y/n felt something touching her hand slightly, startling her.
"Oh sorry." She starts to apologise, but freezes when she sees Coriolanus in front of her.
"No need to apologise." He softly says.
"Where's everyone?" She asks.
"Preparing for the picnic." He tells her, secretly enjoy how her eyes don't meet his.
"Oh... I guess.. uh... I guess we should join them, then." She nervously chuckles, wanting more and more to not be alone with the Peacekeeper.
"Did you enjoy the water?" He asks, ignoring her suggestion.
"I... I did." She answers, "I love days like this."
With each word she slowly swims to the deck.
"I've never done this, you know." He says swimming closer.
"You don't have lakes at the Capitol?" She chuckles, again to hid her nerves.
"There's no room for nature." He simply says.
"Oh... that's... sad." She comments, feeling genuinely sad about that, "hope you're having a good day then, Mr Snow."
"Please, Coriolanus is more than fine, or Coryo... if you like." He tells her with a charming smile, internally begging her to say his name.
"Well, I hope you're having a good day, then, C-Coryo." She forces herself to smile, slightly letting out a sigh of relief when she realises she got to the wooden deck.
"The best in a long time." He catch up with her, ready to chivalrously help her climb up.
Y/n tries to be as quick as she can, but in doing so her foot slipped and she falls back into the water... in Coriolanus' arms.
"Shit..." she curses under her breath.
"You okay?" Coriolanus immediately asks, concerned.
"Yeah, yeah, sorry, I... I slipped." She tries to subtly wiggle out of his arms. While what Coriolanus wants more is to hold her even closer. "We should... uhm... get to the picnic or.. or they w-will eat everything."
"Yeah..." Coriolanus eyes constantly switch from her eyes to her lips, "probably."
He doesn't move an inch though, his eyes keeping the same route, but moving his face closer to hers.
Y/n is cornered, she wants to freak out, but he's still a Peacekeeper, who knows what he could do if she rejected him badly.
"Uhm..." she tries to come up with something to say to get out of the situation.
He's living his dream, in the meantime, he's so close to kissing his girl for the first time he wants to enjoy every second of it. His hands find their way to her waist, caressing it.
Y/n shakes, she wants to run, hit him and run away. Coriolanus interprets the shaking as shyness, he's sure she feels the same, he thinks her shaking is only in anticipation of the kiss.
So he leans closer... and closer...
"Guys!" Lucy Gray's voice saves her, "it's all set!"
"We're coming!" Y/n shouts back immediately, turning away from Coriolanus as she feels his grasp tightening slightly.
Y/n manages to climb back up and misses the frustrated clenching in Coriolanus' jaw.
--------------
They sit on the blankets they brought as they eat, Y/n managed to take a seat in between CC and Maude Ivory, away from the peacekeeper. Lucy Gray, on the other hand, sits next to Sejanus which earned a teasing smile from her friend, Coriolanus sits next to him as they everyone eats.
"You weren't lying, this is amazing." Sejanus exclaims, mouth full of Y/n's dessert.
"You're being too kind now." Y/n can only shy away from the compliment.
"Told you, she's always underestimate herself." Lucy Gray low-kye scold her friend.
"True!" CC agrees, earning a glare from Y/n.
"It really is amazing." Coriolanus chimes in, "where did you learn?"
"Oh... well, when you have to feed all these mouths, that's what you have to do." Y/n explains, "and there were times where one didn't want to eat, when they were younger and didn't fully understand the situation, so I tried my best in making something tasty with what we had."
"Well, I didn't learn." Lucy Gray tries to highlight her friend's talent.
"That's because you were earning money with your guitar and performances." Y/n replies.
"Even that, not without your help." The singer insists.
"Mine?" Y/n laughs, "what help? You're the one singing beautifully everyday."
Coriolanus assist this playful banter and can't help the jealousy raising in him. He wants Y/n to joke with him like that, not with Lucy Gray. He wants to make her blush with compliments, not Sejanus.
"But you write the songs!" Lucy Gray exclaims, with a big smile.
"Not all of them!" Y/n laughs.
"The most beautiful ones, yes." Lucy Gray shots back.
"Oh shut up!" Y/n throws her friend a piece of bread.
"Did we hear any of these songs?" Coriolanus asks, curious.
"I think so," Lucy Gray answers, "plus the one I sang in the arena it's hers."
"Which one?"
"You didn't watch the games?" Sejanus asks.
"No, I did, I did, it's just that the TV we borrowed was a little broken so we couldn't hear anything." She answers.
"Pity..." Sejanus comments, "she sang beautifully."
"Not a surprise." Y/n smiles, "so, what song was it?"
"The old Therebefore." Lucy Gray tells her, "you know it always gives me strength."
"That was yours?" Coriolanus asks, positively surprised.
"Uh.. yeah, though, I simply rearranged an old melody." Y/n explains, shaking her head dismissively.
"Told you, walking talent." Lucy Gray grins and Y/n throws another piece of bread at her.
Coriolanus is amazed, she will be a perfect first Lady, the people of Panem will love her. He's more and more realising what a perfect choice she will be.
Y/n rolls her eyes, giving up, earning a triumphant smile from Lucy Gray.
"It made all people in the auditorium cry." Coriolanus tells them, "a real moving moment."
"At least I would've gotten one last good performance before my demise." Lucy Gray says dramatically.
"Don't say that." Y/n immediately stops her, "you're here. That's all that matters."
They reach out at the same time to hold each other's hand, Sejanus looks at them with sweet eyes, Coriolanus only feels jealousy, eyes shooting daggers at Lucy Gray.
Unfortunately the things between Sejanus and Lucy Gray have been going strong. She is so in love, Y/n's never seen her so taken by someone like she is by Sejanus. The down side of her happiness is that the peacekeeper always brings his friend around. Coriolanus, in fact, insisted and convinced Sejanus to bring him everytime he visited Lucy Gray, and Sejanus, being the good friend he is, he was glad to help his best friend. They even managed to leave Coriolanus and Y/n alone, Lucy Gray too distracted by Sejanus to notice the deception. Y/n doesn't want her to notice anyway, she's happy her friend found someone she actually like, so she's going to endure a little longer for her, Lucy Gray deserves some happiness after all the horrors she saw.
That's why Y/n's now cooking in their kitchen, with Coriolanus watching her like a hawk.
"What are you making exactly?" He asks from his spot by the small table.
"It's... a apple c-cobbler." Y/n softly answers. He would listen to her soft voice all day if he could, saying his name, begging him.
"Do you need any help?" He offers, "you know I don't mind."
She hears him standing up and walking closer to her.
"It's okay, you don't ha-" she stops mid-sentence, Coriolanus' hands softly caressing her hips froze her.
"I don't mind." He whispers into her ear, thumb striking the clothed spot.
"No... uh... i-it's o-okay... uh..." she stutters, looking around for a way to get away.
"Or maybe... " he spins her around so he's looking directly into her eyes, "we can adress... this." He motions between them, getting even closer, bodies now against one another.
"Uh..?" Y/n is confused.
"Us." Coriolanus specifies, "I don't think we can ignore it any longer."
"Uh... I don't... know..." she's at loss for words, "what..?"
"I'm pretty sure, my interest is pretty obvious." He says this almost shyly, bringing a hand up to cup her cheek, "and... I think yours is too."
"My... interest?"She shakes her head, putting her hands on his arms to try and push him off, "Coriolanus..."
"I love it when you use my name, Y/n." Coriolanus says, leaning closer, ignoring how she avoids his eyes and pushes him away.
"Just..."
"Y/n!!"
"Shit.." he mutters under his breath.
"Where are you?" Lucy Gray asks.
"In the kitchen." Y/n answers, relieved Coriolanus stepped back.
"There you are." She enters the kitchen and immediately hugs her friend, Sejanus close behind her.
"Hi." He timidly says, then notices Coriolanus by the table, "hey Coryo, didn't expect to see tou here today."
There's tension between them, Lucy Gray turns her head to look at the blonde and her face drops.
"Is everything okay, Lucy Gray?" Y/n puts a hand on her friend's shoulder, reassuringly.
"Yeah, of course." She shakes her head and smiles brightly again, "what are you making?" She changes subject.
"Uh... apple cobbler." Y/n says softly.
"Mmmhh can't wait." She hums.
There's something off about this situation, since last night's performance at the Hob all three of them have been behaving weirdly. Lucy Gray was singing and after the song she went after Sejanus and Coriolanus, she was goon for some time and when she got back something in her eyes was off. She tried to wave it off, but Y/n knew her friend and she was sure something happened. Why Lucy Gray didn't want to talk to her only added to her worries.
Unfortunately the worst was yet to come.
--------------
"What do you mean you have to leave?" Y/n asks, getting more and more agitated.
"Mayfair and Billy Taupe are dead, who do you think will be blamed?" Lucy Gray snaps back as she keeps packing a small bag.
"But you didn't! How could they prove otherwise?" Y/n insists, breathing heavily.
"The mayor will surely find a way." Her friend days bitterly, then turn to look at her in the eyes, "listen, I'll be fine. This is the only way."
"How will you go, uh?" Y/n challenges, "alone in the woods."
"I... Coriolanus said he would help." Lucy Gray answers, emotionless.
"Coriolanus?!" Y/n whisper-shouts, "do you trust him?"
"I don't have much of a choice. I told you what happened, he's involved too. That has to do." The brunette sighs deeply, "you all can join me in time. I wish you could come too now, but-"
"It will draw too much attention and we would be too easy to find." Y/n finishes her sentence, "I know... but Snow?"
"I told you, he's involved too... he's the only option. Plus... I don't have anything to keep me here anymore.."
Y/n sighs, giving up, she knows Lucy Gray is still grieving Sejanus. She walks to her friend, stopping her to hug her. Lucy Gray returns the hug immediately, crying on her friend's shoulder. Y/n, then, holds her tighter, stroking her back reassuringly.
"We'll be okay. And we will join you soon." Y/n whispers. "I promise."
--------------
It's been almost a year since Lucy Gray ran away, a year since Y/n saw her friend. She hopes Lucy Gray is fine, moat importantly she hopes her friend is alive. It was hard to explain the situation to the rest of the Covey, especially the youngest one, but she managed.
A good thing about this situation is that it's also been a year since Coriolanus Snow has been seen in district 12. Rumours has it he got back to the Capitol, Y/n wishes, whatever is the truth, that he stays as far away as possible. One of their last interactions scared her so much she hardly left the house in fear of simply seeing him.
Y/n is walking back home with her basket in hand, she sold all the jewellery and cakes she made to earn some money so she was quite content as she enters the house.
"Is anyone home?" Y/n yells as she puts down the basket and takes off her patched-up coat.
"In here." A voice calls from the kitchen and Y/n is quick to walk there, freezing on the spot when the figure of Coriolanus Snow stands in her kitchen. His hair grew in this time apparently, the new haircut makes him look even more dangerous, "Hi, my love."
"Uh..." Y/n doesn't know what to do, having him in the house after all this time feels worse than a robe around her neck, "what... what are you doing here?"
"You don't seem happy." Coriolanus states, confused.
He spent a year thinking about Y/n, working hard and constantly so he could come back to 12 and take her to the Capitol. He's been thinking about her, analysing each of their interactions to the bone. And he realised something: Y/n is yet to realise the love they're destined to share, but Coriolanus is more than willing to help.
"I... I'm confused... why... why are you here? Is Lucy Gray-"
"I don't want to talk about Lucy Gray!" He snaps.
Y/n flinches and takes a step back, he sighs deeply and pass a hand through his hair.
"I'm... I'm sorry..." she apologises, not wanting to anger him more, "you... uh... you let your hair grow..."
That seems to please him, he slightly smiles, pride growing in him.
"Yeah," he walks closer to her, "I wanted to leave the Peacekeeper behind, to welcome the future president of Panem."
"Future president..." she gasps out, slowly retreating backwards, "wow.."
"You're even more beautiful than I remembered." He brushes a strand of hair behind her ear, "I missed you."
"Why are you here?" She asks, pushing his hand away.
"I'm here to take you to the Capitol with me." He simply answers, as a matter of fact.
"What?!" She exclaims, pushing him off and putting distance between them.
"You're coming home with me." He states.
"I am home." She firmly says, noticing the clench in his jaw.
"No." He shakes his head, "no, you're not."
"I'm not coming with you." She insists, "I have people to take care of."
"They will be taken care of, if you come with me." He makes sure to emphasise the 'if'.
Y/n now realises no one else's home.
"If? Coriolanus, listen-"
"No, you listen." He interrupts her once again, "there's no thinking to do here. You're coming with me, period. You come with me and your family will be cared for, if you don't... there would be consequences."
"Is that a threat?" She shakes in fear now.
"It's a promise, my love." He gets closer again, putting a hand on her cheek, "so... what do you say now?"
"You already decided... what's the point of asking, then?" She's tearing up, too scared to move.
"Say you'll come with me." He leans closer, brushing his lips against hers, "say it."
She shakes her head, lips sealed.
But Coriolanus doesn't waste any more time, he kisses her, she backs away but he chases her until her back hits the wall forcing their lips together once again.
He kisses her, but she doesn't kiss him back, the hand on her cheek moves to her neck squeezing, as a warning. She tries to push him off, but he is stronger than her, his other hand moves to her hips pulling her closer and she starts to actually struggle.
"S-stop." She manages to stutter out.
"Give into me, my love." He mutters against her skin, kissing down her neck, "come with me, you'll want for nothing more in your life."
"No..." she weakly says, as she keeps pushing him off.
"Yes." He kisses her again, completely leaning his body against her, caging her.
"Please don't... Please." Her crying only turns him on more, he thrusts his hips against her making her feel his hard-on.
Y/n stops her movement, dread in her veins prevents her from doing anything.
"Sshh, let me take care of you." He whispers into her ear, "let me show you how good I can make you feel."
"Please... no..." her breathing gets heavier and heavier as she looks at him kneeling in front of her, "Don't."
She looks at the door, wanting to flee and leave him behind.
"Don't you dare." Coriolanus orders, looking up at her, "you try to run and I'll make sure your family pays. Am I clear, my love?"
Y/n averts her eyes from the door, to the former peacekeeper kneeling in front of her.
The hunger in his eyes is enough to make her feel like a prey being caught.
He keeps looking at her as he lifts her dress up her legs, and when he pulls her underwear down he finally break the eye contact to take a proper look at his prize.
He licks his lips and gets closer to her core, inhaling her scent.
"Stop... please Coriolanus, stop." She tries again, but her plead falls to deaf ears.
Coriolanus at hearing his name coming from her he dives himself between her legs, licking and sucking all he could, finally enjoy whatever he's been dreaming about all this time... since that reaping ceremony.
Y/n gasps when he attacks her pussy with his mouth like a starved man, she looks around hoping to find something to use as a weapon or a way to escape this. She puts her hand on his head in an attempt to push him off, but it's no use, his hold is way too tight and strong for her to pull away.
"Mmhhh" he humms against her, her taste inebriates him completely.
"Shit.." she groans, her body betraying her, getting closer and closer, "shit."
Hearing this Coriolanus only doubles his efforts, he blindly grabs one of her hands and moves it to rest on his cheek.
"Mmhhh yes." He humms again, licking harder on her clit.
"Fuck, fuck, fuck!" She tries to hold back, but it's like she has no control over her body anymore as she comes on his mouth. Her legs weakening and falling to the ground, right in front Coriolanus, face to face.
"I love you." He whispers, catching her off guard by kissing her deeply and forcefully.
She puts her hands against him, never stopping her attempts.
"Stop, stop." She mutters.
"This is just a taste of how I'm going to take care of you." He explains breathlessly, "I'm never letting you go, my love."
They stay still for a moment, Y/n too scared to move and Coriolanus is simply enjoying the moment.
He finally got his girl, but he's always being certain of it, after all it's in his family.
Snow lands on top.

ཐི♡ཋྀ Kinktober Day 3

contents - female reader! praise kink, sex in front of a mirror, reader is mentioned to have body issues, mentions of being fucked dumb, honestly the easiest thing I’ve written
“I’m only doing this because you don’t seem to understand that this body of yours is absolutely gorgeous.” Finnick whispers into your ear before kissing your cheek gently. “Come on, I know you can be a good girl, keep your eyes on the mirror.”
His hands are wrapped around your lower stomach, keeping you tethered to him. He slowly moves his hips back and forth allowing his cock to gently stimulate you. “I overheard that you don’t like the way your body works.” He murmurs against your shoulder where he leaves a gentle kiss.
He starts to thrust gently. “That just won’t do, now for every good thing you can say about your body, then I’ll continue. If you say something bad, then I’ll just stop. Maybe even pull out.” You whimper at the thought of his thick cock not filling you.
“I-I can’t!” You mewl when he hits the deepest spot in you. He tuts, “then I can’t give you your orgasm.” He begins to pull out and you quickly become rambling good things about your body. “I like how my tits can get you off.” You moan out.
He pushes back into your pussy. “God I do love my girls.” He groans out, his head tipping back behind him. You continue to ramble random things about your body that you like. The color of your eyes, the way your legs perfectly tangle with Finnick’s, the way your hands can relieve any stress from Finnick’s shoulders.
Finnick’s hands move to your clit where he angles his fingers just right and rubs at the speed of his thrust. “I’m gonna cum!” You moan out, staring at yourself into mirror, glancing at your disheveled appearance. “Yeah I know baby, trust me I know.” Finnick mutters and he presses against you more, your tits now hitting the coolness of the mirror.
With Finnick’s ruthless pace and abuse on your clit, you reach your orgasm hits you hard. You convulse against the mirror, your body pressing against it. “There we go.” Finnick murmurs stopping his pace.
“Now did you learn your lesson or do I need to fuck you dumb?”

safe & sound

pairing: finnick odair x reader
summary: after years of hard nights and bad dreams, finnick knows better than anyone how to make you feel safe again
warnings: post-mockingjay, established relationship, victor!reader, fluff, comfort, nightmares, brief depictions of death & anxiety
word count: 1.2k
(based on this request, tysm <3)

Callused fingers cradle your cheek while soft lips pepper softer kisses down the slope of your neck. They're a welcome reprieve from the terror that lingers after yet another bad dream.
Yet another night, forced to relive the greatest horrors of your short lifetime. Sometimes it's the arena, your hands covered in the blood of your fellow tributes, their small faces frozen in their final moments of fear.
Tonight's was somehow even worse. It was him, cruelly dismembered while you watched uselessly from the top of that damned ladder. You can still hear them clear as day, hissing your name instead of the Mockingjay's with voices much too human for their mutated, reptilian bodies.
But the games and the war are over now, you know that. You're not trapped in those tunnels anymore, or desperately tugging the love of your life to safety as the Capitol's mutts snap at his ankles in their violent attempts to drag him to his death.
Because in the waking world, they didn't. Finnick is right next to you, whispering sweet nothings in your ear that mean everything. Those gentle words spoken in the dark mean he's still alive.
"Open your eyes, sweetheart. It's not real. None of it is real," he mumbles carefully, shifting to mouth at the sweat-slick skin just below your jaw. The deep timbre and vibration of his voice are soothing, if only a little. "Take a deep breath—in through your nose, out through your mouth. Do it with me, come on."
You do as he says, tensing in anticipation, preparing for the overwhelming scent of roses, but it never comes. Instead, you smell seawater. It's strongest in his sleep-tousled curls, so you nose into them and breathe him in, letting your focus drift elsewhere. Somewhere safe.
Your next exhale is a little steadier, even more still when you repeat the action with him, once then twice. Slowly, everything you see, feel, smell, taste, is him. His lips meet yours, and your eyes remain open even as his flutter closed in your desperation to keep the familiar, nightmarish images that dance behind your eyelids at bay.
But as he coaxes your mouth open and buries his fingers in your hair to pull you closer, everything else begins to fade away. There's only Finnick.
You repeat it to yourself like a mantra—there's no one else here but Finnick. He's right here.
Blunt nails gently scratch your scalp, tensing to keep you near, to maintain the grounding pressure of his lips against yours, and the kiss deepens. But there's no heat behind it. Only the potent taste of sugar cubes and the persistent bite of determination. He won't give up until he banishes every awful recollection and replaces them with newer memories of comfort and peace—at least for the night.
Eventually, he pulls away, chastely pecking your lips a few more times when you chase him. Immediately, you feel colder, and as if he can sense it, he pulls you flush against him, resting his cheek on your collarbone.
"Do you wanna talk about it?" he asks, a faint murmur as he peers up to meet your gaze.
There's concern in his eyes, and you wonder if you were screaming again. God, you hope not. It happens often enough, but even so, it's not something you think either of you will ever get used to.
You sigh and start to shake your head, but stop short. Do you want to talk about it? The answer is usually a resounding no—why dwell on anything that causes so much pain, that you've discussed over and over, practically to death?
And yet, for the first time in a long time, there are words on the tip of your tongue desperate to escape. Tonight, you actually do.
"It was bad, Finn," you whisper shakily, still falsely convinced you need to remain quiet so you're not overheard. "They got you this time. Tore you apart...ripped you to shreds, and I did nothing. None of us did. We let you die—sacrificed you for some greater good, but no one even tried," you spit out, your voice rising in anger the longer you recall your dream. "We could've saved you. We chose not to."
He stays silent, his arms tightening around you as a reminder of your reality. You're positive he can feel you trembling, and his brows knit together in what anyone else would assume is sympathy. But he understands. He felt that crippling fear back then and he feels it radiating off of you in waves right now.
Fighting to hide the intensifying quiver of your lips, you breathe sharply out your nose to dispel your misplaced blame. You didn't lose him, and so of course there's no one at fault. You repeat that like a mantra, too.
"You know, sometimes I wake up searching for you. l expect you to be gone like you were never here at all," you mumble numbly, but your body betrays you, finally giving in to the burning behind your eyes. "It feels like I'm suffocating. I can't breathe no matter how hard I try, and there's this huge weight on my chest, this crushing loneliness I can't shake."
A few stray tears fall against your will, and he brushes them away with a gentle swipe of his thumb before you can rub your skin raw. He cups your cheeks again, guiding you down for another kiss, and it's salty and wet, just like seawater.
You suddenly feel overwhelmingly grateful. Night after night, you go through this same routine, and he calms you without question or complaint, lovingly. After so many years, it feels like second nature to both of you. And when he has his bad nights, quieter than yours but no less traumatic, you soothe his unrest with stories from your childhood, of ocean spray and fishing nets filled to the brim on a stormy day.
Rolling you onto your back, he braces himself on his elbows to keep from crushing you while he shields you from the rest of the world. This bed—the light, scratchy fibers of home woven into your blanket and pillowcases—is the only world that matters, the one you've made for yourselves.
Finnick kisses you breathless, then fills your lungs with his air. You feel lighter. Relieved. Then he speaks and his voice is like a lullaby, better than any bedtime story with a happy ending meant only for you.
"But you always find me, right? When you open your eyes, I'm always here," he says so earnestly that it must be true. You nod, your eyelids growing heavier as the world fades into a wash of bronze and seafoam green. "It's okay to close them. Get some rest. I promise you, I'll be waiting right here in the morning when you wake up."
As you drift off, he lowers his body to rest carefully on top of yours, and his heat acts as a blanket to shelter you against the cool, salty breeze filtering in through an open window.
You're home. You're safe. Tonight, you believe it.
thanks for reading!

thg characters getting jealous cause someone is flirting with you, like what would their reaction be? ik you did the reader getting jealous already, but i was wondering what it would be like vice versa
-🪷
slight nsfw | mdni
coriolanus - coryo has two reactions okay. he’s either so secure in your devotion to him that he doesn’t care. or he’s so angry that he’s taking you home and showing you just how much you belong to him and him only by fucking you hard and deep.
tigris - tigris would be the type to walk up to you, kiss your cheek and take you away from the person ever so subtly showing that you belong to her. she would do it with a smile on her face.
sejanus - sejanus would furrow his eyebrows and be internally insecure. what if you found that person to be more attractive than him? i don’t think he would react in the moment but when you got home, the two of you would have a conversation and you would have to reassure him that you love him.
finnick - okay so truthfully, i don’t see finnick as the jealous type. i think he would see someone talking to you and he would be amused. and when you guys had alone time, he would ask you about it in a teasing way until he’s like “well, i think i should show you that you’re mine, huh?” with a charming smile on his face. to which leads to him worshipping your body.
johanna - she’s full on jealous and isn’t ashamed. she’ll walk up to you and look at the person and go “they’re mine. go away.” before softly kissing your lips.
peeta - peeta wouldn’t get jealous either. i think he’s a very go with the flow person but also lowkey oblivious. so i don’t think he would notice that someone’s flirting with you. he would just think they’re being friendly.
katniss - katniss would watch the whole thing and then pretend as though it doesn’t bother her. but when she gives you the cold shoulder afterwards, you have to pry it out of her. and then you guys have a conversation about it.

billy the kid x cowgirl!reader |after a long day, the gang stops at a boarding house where billy sleepily fucks you|

the quiet squeak of the bed filled the room as you softly moaned, his tight grip on your lower back lifted you higher as your back arched
"doin' so good -being so hush f'me" he whispered praises, the darkroom of the boarding house was only lit by the moonlight peeking through the windows
the gang decided to camp here for the night, where the beds were weak and walls were thin.
billy thrusts were slow and deep, you brought your hand up to your mouth as his hips began to smack against yours
"come on baby, lose yourself on me"
his cock stretched you as he pulled out and in, harder and deeper each time. his cold fingers rubbed your clit as his messy hair was tossed back
"fuck, honey...you need to cum soon or I'm about to ruin yours" he grunted, moving your legs with his other hand and maneuvering you into a mating press as he leaned forward and fucked you even deeper
his hot breath fanned over your face as you both panted, he caught your lips in a kiss as his heavy balls smacked against you. he swallowed the moans you wanted to scream as his dick made your mind melt
each thrust made your entire body shake, you felt so full of him. his cock was all you could think about as you squeezed around him, sucking him in deeper
"darlin'" he hissed on your lips, speeding his fingers up and you let out a shaking moan as your hips began to squirm as your essence coated his dick
"good honey, good job" he whispered, one final smack of his hips and he shot his load in you, giving you two more sloppy thrusts before removing himself from you and kissing your lips
he held you while his fingertips traced your back, mumbling "I love you" as sleep took you both.

A Change of Plans
Request: hi!! could i request a oneshot for haymitch where theyre already in a relationship, takes place during the 75th hunger games and shes reaped, reader is very similar to annie cresta - soft spoken, shy, kind but emotionally fragile due to past trauma - maybe haymitch and katniss’s alliance negotiations are more desperate because he promised to get her out of the games? please and thank you!!
Pairing: Haymitch Abernathy x Fem!reader
Word Count: 1.4k
Warnings: mentions of PTSD, spoilers for Catching Fire
A Change of Plans: Next
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
The train hummed beneath them—too smooth, too quiet—like it had no business carrying something as ugly as death. Haymitch sat stiffly in his usual seat, a glass in hand he hadn’t touched. For once, the burn of liquor wasn’t enough. Not for this.
The reaping was over.
For District 12, at least.
Katniss and Peeta were reaped.
Well—he was. Technically.
Peeta volunteered, though it wasn’t like Haymitch could do much to stop him. Not when the Capitol stacked the deck so neatly, not when Snow already knew every move they’d make before they made it.
It was all exactly what he feared.
And somehow worse.
Because it wasn’t just Katniss and Peeta.
It was who else had been chosen.
The third Quarter Quell.
Where the victors themselves became the tributes.
A punishment wrapped in a celebration.
He hadn’t seen her yet. Hadn’t let himself imagine it. Wouldn’t allow her face to take shape in his mind—not until he had to. He thought he could delay it. Maybe she wouldn’t be reaped. Maybe, for once, the odds would lean in their favor.
Now, the screen played the recaps—district by district. A slow, cruel countdown. Effie had turned the volume up, her voice unnaturally chipper when she said they should “know who we’re up against.”
Peeta sat with his elbows on his knees, eyes fixed. Katniss sat rigid beside him, barely breathing.
A notepad lay in Peeta’s lap, filled with frantic notes and rough sketches. Names circled, others crossed out, arrows and question marks scribbled into the margins. He wrote based on Haymitch’s earlier comments—strategy, personalities, strengths. He wanted to be ready. Wanted to protect her.
They didn’t know how impossible that would be.
Haymitch sat bracing himself. His hands were already trembling, though he hadn’t taken a sip. He didn’t look at the others. Didn’t dare.
District 8.
The screen flickered.
There she was.
Standing alone on the platform, washed in that horrible blue-white Capitol lighting that made everyone look a little more ghost than human. Her hands were folded in front of her, fingers white at the knuckles. Her shoulders hunched slightly, like she was trying to make herself disappear into herself.
Just her and one other female tribute.
She hadn’t changed much. Maybe a few more lines around her eyes, a new softness in her features. But the essence of her remained untouched. The gentleness. The quiet strength. The kindness.
Even now, she looked soft.
Everything the arena was not.
Katniss inhaled sharply beside him. “Oh.”
Effie’s hand fluttered up to her mouth, her expression crumbling. “Oh no…”
Haymitch didn’t look at them. Didn’t acknowledge anything but the screen. His heart thudded slow and sick in his chest, and his fingers curled tight around the glass he still hadn’t touched.
Y/N stepped forward when they called her name. Her voice was low, trembling—barely above a whisper. But she walked. Unflinching. No dramatics. No sobs. Just the quiet dignity she always carried, like a thread sewn into her very bones.
She didn’t look surprised.
She didn’t cry.
That was her.
Always braver than anyone realized.
Braver than him.
“Won’t the other volunteer for her? She’s…” Peeta’s voice trailed off, uncertain, trying to say the right thing. “She’s not the most violent, is she?”
Haymitch’s jaw clenched. “I doubt it,” he said tightly. “The other female victor, Cecilia. Sweet woman. But she’s got three kids. If she wasn’t picked, she wouldn’t volunteer.”
Katniss was watching him now, not the screen. Her voice dropped into something softer than he’d ever heard it. “You didn’t think they’d pick her.”
“No,” he said flatly. “But then again…” He raised the glass, whiskey burning his throat. “Sometimes the odds are leaned into our favor.”
He tasted bitterness more than alcohol.
Because he knew.
He knew Snow did this on purpose.
Picked this Quarter Quell theme.
Picked Katniss.
Picked her.
This wasn’t justice. It wasn’t random. It was Snow’s hand around his throat, squeezing harder every time Haymitch dared to hope for something better. Dared to love something again.
Haymitch leaned forward and set the glass down, scrubbing his hands over his face like he could erase the image burned into the back of his eyelids—his wife, his wife, standing stiffly as Peacekeepers took her from the stage. They cut the footage just before she looked back.
But he didn’t need to see it.
He knew that look.
He’d seen it before.
The first time she was reaped, before they’d ever met.
Before she won.
Before he ever dared to let someone in again.
He had spent years protecting her in the only way he knew how—keeping her name quiet, keeping her out of the Capitol’s grasp, tucked away in the shadows of District 8. She had always felt too good for this world. Too soft for it. But she’d survived it once.
Her condition, her fragility, her gentle demeanor—none of it ever made her weak. It just made her precious. To him.
Now they were throwing her back into the fire.
“Haymitch,” Effie said gently. Her voice had lost all its Capitol shine. “I am… so terribly sorry.”
He didn’t answer. What was there to say?
There was no plan. No maneuver. No clever twist of words that could undo this.
All he could see was her. That quiet smile she gave him when she mended his clothes. The way she held his hand in bed when the nights were too dark. The smell of her hair. The small kiss to his wrist when she thought he was asleep. Her voice saying his name like it meant something.
Gone.
No.
Not gone.
Still within reach.
The plan was still in motion. The one he’d built with Plutarch piece by piece. But now… now it needed to be reshaped. Bent to save her.
He stood abruptly. His voice was rough, slurred at the edges, but solid where it counted. “She’s not dying in that arena.”
“Haymitch—” Peeta started, knowing that at the end, only one of them could get out. There was no way they’d let them get away with it a second year.
He turned, eyes burning. “I mean it. I don’t care what it takes. If we’re—” He stopped himself. Too many ears. Too many cameras. He gritted his teeth.
Katniss nodded slowly, picking up what he was putting down. “We’ll watch her back. But you know how this works. Especially now. Only one can make it out.”
Only one.
That’s what the Capitol wanted them to believe.
But Katniss and Peeta didn’t know what he did.
Didn’t know Beetee’s plan.
Plutarch’s plan.
Didn’t know the ship hovering beyond the clouds that would be ready for when the time comes.
Didn’t know he’d already laid the groundwork to get her out. He just needed to get the other Victors on board.
He just had to keep Katniss alive long enough to make it happen.
For the rebellion to happen.
But now he had another factor to worry about. His wife was now stuck in the games. Haymitch needed to figure out a way to keep her safe. Sponsors would only do so much, and Cecelia would ensure you were looked after. The capital loved you and all the clothes you made. A Capital favorite, especially to all the designers like Cinna.
Maybe Finnick would do. He could be trusted.
Or Johanna. She liked Y/N. Had a soft spot for her, even if she’d never admit it.
It could work.
It had to.
Effie dabbed her eyes with a lace handkerchief. “She’s one of the good ones,” she whispered. “Always has been.”
Haymitch didn’t reply.
He couldn’t.
He turned and left, boots heavy against the floor as he crossed the car to his compartment. Once the door slid shut, he walked to the window and leaned a hand against it. The tracks blurred by below, the sky painted in ash and dying light.
Somewhere out there, she was being powdered, painted, packaged for the cameras. Being forced into a dress she didn’t want. Touched by hands that didn’t know her. Made to smile through the terror.
Somewhere, she was alone.
And he was here.
But not for long.
This time, he wouldn’t watch from the sidelines.
This time, if the world wanted war—they’d get it.
Because no one was taking her from him again.
Not without burning for it.

THREE LIES AT ONCE
FINNICK ODAIR X FEM!STYLIST!READER
this is based on a prompt from character.ai c:
SYNOPSIS -> You're his stylist and you discover bruises.

You liked it when Finnick visited the Capitol and Finnick hated doing it except for the fact that he knew you would be there.
You had already earned a reputation as a stylist in the Capitol when you two met. And it had been four years since Finnick won his games but President Snow had kept him close because nothing was more appealing than a charming boy in his twenties to the people of the Capitol.
You learned from the best. Cinna taught you everything he knew about fashion and then made you forget about it all so you could build your own style. It actually worked quite well because your designs were sold in the Capitol as if people needed them to live.
Your colors and characteristic shapes, your outrageous skirts, your long dresses, and your headdresses were worn by everyone, men and women fought over your designs and they spent all their savings on your clothes. President Snow was more than delighted with you, not only because his granddaughter deeply admired you but because you knew how to be liked, and he loved that about you.
That's why President Snow found the perfect match with Finnick and you and for once in his life, he did something right.
Finnick became your muse. From the moment you were introduced at the Capitol and you saw him walking towards you with those bright green eyes, his perfectly messy blonde hair, his tanned skin thanks to the way the sun in District 4, and his body that looked like it had been sculpted by the gods. You knew you never wanted to design anything else but for him.
―When did you arrive and how is it that you haven't come to see me earlier? ―You threw yourself into his arms, your fingers dug into his blond locks of hair. This was not the typical relationship that stylists used to have with their models but after working with him for a couple of years now, it was inevitable that some affection would grow between the two of you. Especially when, during his stays in the Capitol, you spent most of your time together. You were the only thing that kept him from going crazy.
He would sit and watch you while you sketched out his next outfit. You would share a drink and ask him questions about how his life was back in District 4. Finnick loved to talk about his home and you loved to imagine yourself there, in the places that Finnick described to you so precisely. The sea reaching your feet, the sun shining against your skin, the sound of seagulls flying across the bluest sky you had ever seen... And for some reason that you were still trying to figure out, every time you imagined yourself in one of those scenarios, he was by your side. District 4 seemed like a lovely place.
Finnick's arms wrapped around your waist while his face hid in the crook of your neck. He inhaled your familiar scent when you hugged, too sweet for the Capitol, not like the perfume people there used to keep up with their continuous call for attention.
―Yesterday but I was too tired from the trip.
That was the first lie that Finnick told you that night.
There was an expression of relief on your face with something like a small smile on your lips, grateful to see him again after such a long time and when everything in your life was chaos thanks to the preparation of the next games. Your eyes were closed, enjoying him holding you until you heard him say those words and then they opened in a combination of surprise and confusion.
―Don't think that being tired is an excuse for not coming to see me, Finnick Odair. That should always be the first thing you do as soon as you set foot here. ―You said, still thinking about why would he lie to you.
You moved apart from the hug and Finnick had a big smile on his lips that inevitably made you smile too. ―I'm sorry. ―He apologized.
―You better be. But now I need you to tell me if you like it.
You turned to grab your notebook and showed him the sketch you drew. Finnick took the notebook from your hands so he could take a better look and admire every detail.
―This is beautiful. You're an artist. I doubt there is anyone half as good as you in the whole Panem.
―Oh, there's Cinna. I haven't managed to dethrone him yet.
―Come on, you outdid Cinna a long time ago. He says so himself. The student surpassed the master, there's nothing wrong with that.
You shook your head and said nothing. Finnick rolled his eyes, he knew you didn't like hearing from him or anyone else that you were better than Cinna. Not even when Cinna himself tells you.
―Have you started sewing it yet? Can I see it?
―That's why I needed to see you. I haven't started yet because I need to measure you again. The last time you wore one of my garments it was too tight. I don't want to risk it not fitting you this time. ―You grabbed the measuring tape and pins from the table in your studio, full of fabrics and patterns for the new tributes. Cinna had given you his notebook with some beautiful sketches and had told you that he needed something similar but for the male tribute, a guy named Peeta Mellark from District 12, and you had been working day and night to meet Cinna's expectations. ―The robe is behind the dressing screen.
―Yes ma'am.
Finnick walked over without saying another word. You admired his figure as he walked away. Finnick's back was twice as wide as when you met him, his arms had grown stronger, now you could identify each of the muscles in them and his legs had also doubled in size, unfortunately, Finnick loved to wear long skirts, if it were up to you he would be showing them all the time. The features of his face had also changed, now they were more pronounced. Finnick's dimples were more visible and his jaw was so sharp you'd swear if you slid your finger along it you'd cut yourself.
―This looks great on you. I don't know why I try to design you something new every time. I should let you go around with that.
Finnick shook his head, failing in his attempt not to laugh at your stupid joke. ―You are not only the best designer but also the funniest one, huh?
You rolled your eyes. Finnick knew you didn't like it when he told you that and he did it on purpose to tease you. ―Come on, take it off.
Finnick stood before the mirror as you stood behind him. Once he slipped it off, you gasped and jumped back, horrified.
―Gosh, Finnick, what is this? ―You took a few steps backward at the sight of the bruises that trailed down his back. By their bright red color you would say were rather recent. You didn't know how to react, you were petrified staring at his back.
Finnick smiled, dismissing what you just saw with practiced charm. ―Ah, just a little souvenir. My lovers like to play rough. Don’t worry your pretty little head about it.
That was the second lie Finnick told you that night.
Finnick's chest was heavy but he was trying to keep his cool. He had assumed that by the time the two of you saw each other the wounds would have healed, besides the fact that he didn't think he would have to undress in front of you.
―Your lovers? This absolute atrocity was done by one of your lovers?
―They were probably just a little too... enthusiastic. Besides, I don't have a problem with it, I like it. My skin heals fast so I'll be all good in no time.
And that was the third lie. His skin did not heal fast. You had always told him off for coming to dress rehearsals all bruised up from his training sessions and those bruises had lasted for days. These new ones were sure to stay on his skin for at least a month.
―How can some one like this?
Finnick could hear the disdain in your voice. You should be disgusted, horrified and definitely judging him, but don't worry, so was he.
―Honey, if you don't understand it's not my problem.
―No, you're right. I don't understand. I don't think you enjoyed that.
―Oh, you're gonna tell me what I can or cannot enjoy?
―Have you seen your back? Have you seen how bad this looks?
Finnick chuckled. ―I don't know why you're making such a big deal out of this. Do you need all the details? Is the life of a stylist so boring?
―Finnick, listen to me. I don't want all the details I want the truth, and now it's the perfect time to start. ―You said. You grabbed him by his shoulders and turned him around to look at you. Finnick groaned as your hands were placed on his shoulders and when he stood face to face with you, he could see how upset you were.
―I don't know what you're talking about. ―He bit the inside of his cheeks, that was just what he had been told, not to tell anyone the truth about what had happened. He saw you roll your eyes and let all the air out of your body through your mouth, annoyed.
―I know that you didn't arrive yesterday. Cinna told me. Do you really think you can go unnoticed? Here? And I know for a fact that those bruises are not from one of your lovers, let alone that they were done to you a couple of days ago.
Finnick swallowed, looking at you with his head held high. He tried to keep the smile on his lips, pretending that everything was okay, that he did enjoy it when those bruises were inflicted on him, but his lower lip betrayed him and began to tremble. You bent down to pick up the robe and carefully threw it over his shoulders so he wouldn't feel so exposed. Finnick's head was bowed. You lifted it using your thumb and index finger on his chin very gently.
―I need you to tell me who did this to you. I can't help you if you don't tell me.
Finnick chuckled amid the sadness and shame he was feeling. ―Help me? You can't help me.
―I'm sure there's something I can do. I could―.
―They were Peacekeepers following Snow's orders.
Your jaw dropped and your heart rate accelerated. It was the first time that Finnick was admitting that to someone. It had been impossible to tell anyone, let alone a citizen of the Capitol like you. Finnick couldn't possibly admit that without compromising his carefully cultivated image. Besides, if he made himself out to be a victim, the Capitol would never allow someone they saw as weak to perform the role of the Golden Boy and all the people he cared about in District 4 would die. At that moment you realized that all the times he showed up at your studio claiming that his injuries were from training were not true and you felt sick to your stomach.
―How did it happen? ―You asked, swallowing the lump that had formed in your throat
―I tried to leave the Capitol. Before I could get on the train back to District 4 I was arrested by Peacekeepers and they took me to Snow's mansion. A lot of people came and when I refused to see them... I've been locked up there since then, that's why I couldn't come to see you earlier.
You shook your head, feeling awful. ―Don't worry about it, Finnick. I'm so sorry this is happening to you. ―Your stomach complained and begged your brain to stop imagining everything that Finnick would have been put through since then. The beatings, the strangers paying to sneak into his bed, the Peacekeepers bursting into his room and leaving him bleeding on the floor...
―Snow likes me. There has to be something I can do for you.
―You don't understand. It's not something that I can quit.
―I can spend all day designing and sewing to pay Snow the money he would make with you. I can talk to Cinna to raise the price of our designs. People here are rotten with money, they'll keep buying them anyway.
―It's not that simple. You can't just buy my freedom.
―Has anyone tried before?
Finnick thought about it and shook his head. ―Snow wouldn't allow that to happen. ―You ran your hand over your face in despair, not knowing what else to do to help him and feeling a responsibility to do something about it. You were the citizen of the Capitol, the one who had superior status and the favor of Snow, there must be something you could do.
―What if I buy you?
Finnick's eyes widened in surprise. ―Buy me?
You nodded and realized how bad that sounded. ―But not in like, a slave type of way. Gosh that sounded awful. I would just― Do it so you can live your life in your district. I wouldn't― keep you here, no. You'd just have to come to the Capitol a couple of times, make a few public appearances, and leave again.
―Why would you do that for me?
You bit the inside of your cheeks and nodded. ―You're my friend. I care about you.
You had managed to give him something he had long been missing. Hope. Maybe what you wanted to do would work or maybe not but at that moment Finnick felt that someone cared and that gave him hope that everything would work out.
Finnick took a step forward and placed his hands on your cheeks. He leaned in slightly and connected his lips with yours. Your hands ended up resting against his warm bare chest, closing your eyes and allowing him to kiss you. You knew it was the emotion of the moment, the adrenaline rush of knowing that maybe he could live his life in peace. You had given him hope and he was happy that someone had shed some light on his situation.
When you parted ways after the kiss, you both were smiling.
―Go and put your pants on, I'll treat your bruises.
―Do you know how?
―Well, not really, but I'm not short of needle and thread and I still have some alcohol from last night.
Finnick pressed his lips together and nodded. That would work. He walked to the dressing screen and you watched him as he walked away in the mirror's reflection. Before hiding behind the dressing screen, he said something that lit up a flame in your heart and made butterflies flutter in your stomach.
―I wish you would come with me to District 4.

Summary: You are the capital's beloved escort. One they feel very protective over. So when there outs a scandal about their beloved escort and Haymitch Abernathy, the capital and Caesar loose their minds over it.
Holding out your hand, it got taken. Helping you down the few steps out of the train. The immediate musky smell made you grab for a handkerchief. Keeping it under your nose to muffle out the smell. – “It could use a bit of perfume.” – you mumbled under your breath.
Following a man who gestured for you for directions. You started walking, a trail of soldiers in white behind you. Helmets disguising their faces. Marching in one pace behind you. Thundering boots announcing their arrival. Avoiding most of the dirt, you went inside a building. Several men in suits were waiting.
Bowing upon your arrival. You gave them a respectful nod with a pleasing smile. Some of the men swallowed nervously at the amount of soldiers with you. Noticing it, you waved your hand casually. – “Don’t mind them, They’re here for me.” – giving them some assurance.
A soldier moved in front of you, holding his arm out to guide you in a direction. Humming softly, you followed. Leading you towards another room. Knowing behind the doors would be numerous boys and girls waiting for the reaping.
Curling a up smile, you couldn’t help but feel a tat exciting. Clearing your throat, you peeked quickly down at your dress for no wrinkles. Hands up, you prepared yourself for presentation. – “Where’s Effie?” – a man’s voice came through. Leading to you turning your head over your right shoulder. A man approaching you, stepping into the lighting beside you.
“Effie is ill.” – you responded turning your head back to the front. Awaiting your moment. – “So they send the capital’s most beloved escort.” – the man responded. Clearly to mock you. For it was as clear as day in his voice. You touched your lips gently with your finger to feel if your lipstick was still alright. – “I see the local drunk is still breathing.” – you answered without a glance at him. – “Now take a few steps back Abernathy, you’ll ruin my entrance.” – adding that extra naïve tease.
Haymitch scoffed loud, eying you up and down. Judging your colourful clothing. The vibrant colours that seemed so outplace in a district as this one. You cleared your throat since he wasn’t moving. Haymitch took a bow with wide arms, making sure to exaggerate to your annoyance. Moving back so he was out of your way.
Moving your hand by your neck, you moved your chin higher up. Presenting yourself with the sweetest smile. Doors opening as you were blinded by the light for a second. Waiting for them to fully open, till you walked out. Stepped further up the platform to gaze upon numerous boys and girls. All their faces dreary and dull. Wanting to give them a wake-up call, you tapped the microphone. That sure got their attention.
“Welcome, welcome, welcome.” – you announced through the microphone. Voice echoing over the courtyard. – “Happy hunger games!” – gesturing with your hands to make it grander. – “May you find the odds in your favour.” – adding with a more serious tone before pulling out a smile once more. The crowd remained silence. Though crowd, you thought. Breathing out a chuckle, you went on.
“Now before we begin, we have a special film, brought to you by the capital!” – clapping your hands together, you turned your posture. Gesturing at the screen at your right to where the film would be played. Whilst watching the film, you kept a hand on your chest. Smile up. Sensing a pair of eyes on you. Not wanting to look away from the film, yet compelled to tear your glance away. Gaze drifting to the other side. Seeing Haymitch stand at the left side of the platform. Hands folded together, watching you with a stern glare.
Smile faltering, your fingers curled inwards to your palm by your chest. Remaining your gaze locked on him. Feeling a sense of discomfort settling in your chest. Hearing the last words of the film, you recovered yourself with a brief flutter of your eyelashes. Breathing out softly into the microphone as you plastered on your smile once more.
Waiting for the soldiers to bring out the bowls. They got placed in front of you. You thanked them with a nod. Stepping up to the left bowl. Coming to face neatly formed lines of numerous young girls. Gaze lowering to the bowl. Clearing your throat softly, you lifted your hand up. Rubbing some fingers together before diving in. – “For the girls…” – you started feeling the papers in your hand. Lowering your gaze before settling on taking one.
Taking in a deep breath, you pulled your hand up. Unfolding the paper in front of you. – “Primrose Everdeen.” – you announced. Soldiers moved in the crowd, grabbing a young blonde girl by her arms. Sudden shouting made you startle a bit back. Catching another girl cause the havoc.
“I volunteer! I volunteer! I volunteer as tribute!” – she shouted loudly. You briefly looked over your shoulder to Haymitch at the far side. Never had there been a volunteer. Haymitch lowered his gaze, avoiding to look back at you. – “My, my we have a volunteer.” – you addressed, gesturing for her to join you.
The soldiers let go of the blonde girl as other soldiers guided the brown-haired girl up the stairs. The blonde girl screaming and crying loud. Trying to ignore her cries, you focused on the volunteer. She approached you with shivering knees. – “What is your name, darling.” – you asked quietly.
“Katniss… Katniss Everdeen.” – she whispered nervously back. Her last name made you nearly break a fold in your expression. It was clear they were family. You turned to the crowd. – “We have our volunteer. Katniss Everdeen!” – speaking through the microphone. You then walked over to the boy’s bowl. Glancing up to Haymitch but not receiving a glance back.
This time you didn’t hesitate. Picking out a paper as the nauseating feeling in your stomach swirled up. – “Peeta Mellark.” – announcing loudly. A blonde boy came on stage with you. You took both their wrist, moving their arms up. – “We have our victors!” – letting go of them to clap. Only the men in suits clapped along. Holding them each with a hand on their lower back, you guided the victors away. – “Where are we going?” – the girl asked in a husky voice. – “Well to the capital of course.” – filling in as the doors closed behind you.
Waiting in the corner of the room, it busted open. Victors being embraced by family. You kept staring at Katniss and her sister’s embrace. Primrose whimpering and trembling. Captivated by the scenery, you barely noticed the sudden glass being held in front of your gaze. Blinking surprised, you came back to your senses. – “I don’t drink on the job.” – you spoke batting an eye at Haymitch.
“You look like you need one, peaches.” – He responded offering you the drink once more. – “Don’t call me by that name.” – you insisted upon, getting slightly offended by it. For it was the capital's charmname for you. Haymitch chuckled, bringing the glass to himself. Smiling before gulping the entire content down. – “Forgive me, Y/n.” – he exaggerated once more, setting the glass down. Scoffing loud, you knew he was simply trying to push your buttons.
Noticing the soldiers approaching in the door opening, you removed yourself from your position. Clasping your hands together to rally your victors up. – “Time’s up darlings.” – you spoke, shooing their family away. Katniss and Peeta both followed you out of the room. Silently heading towards the train. All of you took your seats. The train set off, riding towards the capital through all of the districts. You sighed loud, sitting neatly down.
Seeing Katniss and Peeta stare at you and your uniqueness. Peeta then glanced over at Haymitch who simply shook his head to not engage in it. Knowing he might he suspicious of the over-colourfully dressed lady from the capital. An awkward silence bestowed itself upon everyone. For after all you were just a bunch of strangers in a train headed for the same destination.
Haymitch was the first one to break the tension with a clearance of his throat. – “Loosen your corset, have a drink.” – he flapped out gesturing at everyone to just ease up. Nobody moved as Haymitch got up with a groan. – “Then I’ll just help myself.” – he spoke heading up to the bar. – “Don’t you already have enough?” – you questioned, throwing him a glance over your shoulder.
With a glass in his hand, he moved his hands nonchalantly. – “What is enough? peaches.” – he responded getting on your nerves once more. Eying the victors briefly, you got up to reach Haymitch. Pressing your hand on top of his glass before it could reach his lips. Pushing it back down on the table with his hand still around it. – “Should you really be drinking in the presence of these younglings?” – Saying quietly but meaningful at him.
Haymitch’s hands immediately went to your lower back in response. Shoving you closer to him as a soft gasp escape your mouth. – “Don’t take my drink from me.” – he responded with seriousness. Finger up till your nose. Tapping it once before letting go of you once more. Plucking the drink from underneath your palm, he took off. Pressing a hand to your chest, you needed to steady your breathing.
Turning around, you saw Katniss get up to take her leave. Out of distress, you grabbed a glass, lifting it up till you noticed what you were doing. Scoffing loud, you set the glass back down. – “Are you alright?” – Peeta asked, still present. Plastering up a smile, you nodded. Stepping away from the bar, you came sitting with him.
Once Haymitch returned after passing another district, you ignored him for most of the ride. Prepping the new victors for what they could expect. Haymitch took it upon him to educate them more about the games since you had little clues of it. The capital was more your area of expertise. Both victors didn’t feel ready enough when the train arrived at the capital.
You were completely in your element after getting off. From left and right you were greeted by people. Air kissing your cheeks, sending you off with good compliments. Waving at everyone like a celebrity. Peeta followed you on foot, Katniss and Haymitch a bit behind. – “This is ridiculous and pompous.” – Katniss said under her breath. Haymitch grabbed her firm by the elbow.
“Don’t take this lightly Katniss. She’s the best you can have.” – He made clear to her with a stern expression. – “If one can make anything happen here…” – his gaze going up to you further away introducing Peeta to some people. – “it is her.” – hiding a tiny smile, quickly folding for something neutral. Katniss quirked her eyebrow at him suddenly speaking so fond of you in her presence. Haymitch let go of her elbow with a roll of his eyes. – “We have our differences.” – was the only remark he made. Walking off to keep up with Peeta and you.
All of you rejoined in the victors quarters. Going over some last details before releasing your victors for their first appearance to the capital. You stood watching from a balcony oppositely from the judges and president Snow. Wanting to see how your victors were going to do. Watching all the others with a dull expression. It wasn’t until it was Peeta’s turn that you were clapping the loudest.
“My victor.” – you said loudly to make it aware to people with you on the balcony. – “Always with the praising.” – a voice came through. Glancing to your side, you saw Haymitch approach with a glass of scotch in his hand. – “If you’d stop being the drunk, you might get some from me.” – you responded not giving him a glance.
“You break my heart, peaches.” – he spoke. You responded by punching your elbow in his stomach. He doubled over, coughing. – “Y/n.” – he corrected himself with a hoarse voice. Haymitch straightened his posture once more, coming to stand by your side. Watching Peeta’s performance end. You clapped and cheered the loudest, making Haymitch curl up a smile out of your sight.
Peeta turned around, looking up at you. You clapped to him with a proudful smile. He smiled sheepishly back before heading out. Feeling a sudden hand slip in yours, made you gasp soft. Haymitch brought your entangled hand upwards. Giving your knuckles a tender kiss.
You gave him a soft shove on his shoulder for being so jokingly. Haymitch pulled you closer to him by your entangled hand. Before he fully understood what his body was doing with his brain, he leaned in. Pressing his lips against your cheek to kiss them. Catching himself amidst the act, he moved back. Seeing you stare in shock back at him.
Blinking with surprise, you gave him a kiss back on the cheek. Gasps and whispers followed, making it aware to you once more you were not alone. Looking around at the people from the capital throwing judging glances at Haymitch and whispering. For he dared to kiss the capital’s favourite. Someone that belonged to no one but to everyone.
You could barely focus on Katniss’s performance with the fussy feeling dancing within you. Bashful and flushed, you immediately took off after Katniss’s performance. Heading back to your districts quarters. Before you could reach them, you were approached by someone. Guiding you away for the gossip of the capital’s favourite escort was whispering around. Needing answers, you were guided towards a familiar set of stairs. Blinking surprised at the familiar figure.
“Caesar?” – you blurted out. He laughed loud, hurrying over to you. – “You darling rascal!” – he teased with excitement. Before you could say any more, he walked out. Going on stage. In a matter of seconds, you knew what was going on. You were getting interviewed over the scandal. For anyone daring to kiss the capital’s favourite was scandalous. Without a proper say in it, you got shoved on stage. Greeted by blinding lights and an overwhelming crowd.
Caesar got up, holding his hand out to you. You accepted it with a put up smile. Knowing how to adapt at the capital. – “Our beloved escort!” – he announced cheerful, presenting you to the camera. Your eyes slightly widened upon seeing the camera. Making you look behind you.
Seeing your face being broadcasted behind you and presumably on every other camera. The applause was overwhelming. Caesar led you back to the chairs, helping you settle in. With his microphone, he leaned in to you. – “A little birdy told me something Y/n.” – he said, quirking his eyebrow up. – “That my victors are charming?” – you responded, followed by laughing from the crowd.
Caesar laughed loud as well, turning a bit away. He then got all serious once more, leaning back in. – “Haymitch Abernathy does that ring a bell?” – he asked. You remained silent, knowing to what he was hinting at. Caesar placed a hand down on your knee with a soft sigh into the microphone. – “Tell us, is it true that he kissed you? It’s what the people want to know.”
You swallowed nervously looking back at the camera. From the victor’s quarters, Peeta got up, pointing at the screen. – “Isn’t that Y/n?” – he asked. Haymitch lifted his head up, stopping himself from pouring a drink. Seeing you on the screen with Caesar. Seeing how he was poking about the scandalous kiss.
Haymitch’s expression hardened, throwing his glass at the ground. – “Hay… Haymitch!” – Peeta called out as he rushed out. Peeta looked back at Katniss, who simply shrugged her shoulders. Haymitch hurried through the corridors. Knowing many eyes were on him. Reaching the stage, he grabbed some people by their shirts, shoving them aside. Clearing a path for himself. Running up the stairs to reach the stairs.
Gasps filled the audience at Haymitch stumbling on stage. – “Oh my.” – Caesar said with pleasure. You gasped loud, getting up from your position in shock. Haymitch shielded his eyes briefly from the bright lights before making his way over to you.
“Haymitch what are you…” – unable to finish your sentence. For Haymitch touched your cheek, other hand by your waist pulling you in. His lips crashing on yours. Caesar shrieked with excitement and pleasure at the scandal in front of him. Waving his hand flabbergasted at himself to cool down.
Pressing a hand on his chest, you joined in with the kiss. Moving his hand to your lower back, he pressed you deeper onto him to have you as close as possible. Caesar nearly fainted with excitement. The audience filled with shouts and booing. For Haymitch was stealing the most beloved escort from them.

haymitch abernathy - fire

♫ killswitch engage - this fire burns
main masterlist | blog playlist
Luckily enough so far in your life, you have not had your name called in the reaping, and you hadn't experienced the tragedies of the arena personally. Nothing was certain but for that, you thanked your lucky stars. To not know those types of grief, anger and loss was as rich as most people got in these districts.
That wasn't to say you didn't know the pain of the games and what they did to those who entered into them and survived. You were far from blind to the toll it took. Second hand, you got to experience those feelings through him.
Haymitch Abernathy.
When you first met Haymitch, he was quiet and reserved. On the outside, he was an older man who lived alone and had a refusal to allow himself the luxury of close friends. Often angry, he deflected those feelings onto most people around him. The Capitol had made him this way, and you would never forgive them for that.
Granted you hadn't met him before this version, you had only met the Haymitch who depended on alcohol and isolation to get through his days. The Haymitch who wouldn't share his feelings and when he did, they came out only in aggression. That was the man you met, that was who he was.
Until you.
How it happened, you didn't remember. You met Haymitch in a bar one night, albeit completely drunk off his head, and he was a little sweet on you. Having dealt with enough male attention before, you were used to it. But, what you had realised in it all was that he wasn't creepy or weird with you; it was actually rather sweet. Haymitch couldn't compliment you enough.
"You know somethin', doll," he drawled, accent thick and words trailing off into their own little world. "You might just be the prettiest damn thing I've seen in this district."
Surprisingly, you felt butterflies in your stomach. Usually, unwanted advances made you hurl and often lessen your visits to said places. But, there was just something about him that made you think otherwise. It felt like a draw, like there was something beneath the surface just dying to meet you.
"And just how many people in here have you said that to tonight alone?" you quipped back, smiling and taking a sip of your drink. Haymitch stopped slouching and sat upright, intrigue rising in him at your joke.
"Just you, just you." His chuckle was delightful to you. "So, do you have a name? I mean, I'm quite content calling you sweet thing, but I figured it's polite to ask."
A gentle look on your face, you leaned in closer to him so you could talk at a normal level, the music a touch too loud. You told him your name, and he spoke it back to you. It felt right, it felt nice.
"That's a hell of a nice name, you wear it well, I'm Haymitch."
You'd heard of him, you knew he won the second Quarter Quell, which explained the heavy drinking. Other than that, you didn't know much else. From what you had heard, he was rather unpleasant to be around, but this chance meet had shown you differently. To you, he seemed like a normal everyday man. Politer than the rest, too.
You were not the only one feeling things, either.
Haymitch loved the mystery behind you. In the beginning, he thought you were beautiful when you had walked in. He hadn't expected you to stick around after his awful opening line, but he was grateful you did. Haymitch wasn't having the best of days. It was rare for him to openly talk to someone at the best of times, but right now he didn't want the night to end.
Your conversation went on the entire evening, until you began to feel tired. Haymitch was drunk, but sober enough to grab your coat for you as you stood.
"Could I walk you home, sweetheart?" The pet name made your heart soar. You'd barely known the man half a day and yet you felt like your head was in the clouds.
"You can, but you're not exactly sober yourself. Plus, I don't want to cut your night short."
Haymitch let outa breathy laugh, helping you into your coat before donning his own. "I may be fairly drunk, but I know you're safer with me than without me. It's late, and it's dark."
With a hand at the small of your back, Haymitch led you to the door and allowed you to walk through first as the cold air of the night hit you both. You couldn't deny that feeling in the pit of your stomach at his small show of protective dominance. It was welcomed, and you loved it.
The walk to your house was pretty quiet, the two of you simply enjoying the closeness of one another. Occasionally, your arms would bump together and a flurry of apologies followed, ending with the two of you just laughing it off. It was nice to finally have someone that brightened the district up for you, most of the time it was dreary and depressing. You had no idea the effect your presence had on Haymitch, either.
He had lost so much, done so many things he wasn't proud of. He was lonely, and drunk most days, just willing the sun to set and rise again. You had given him someone that listened tonight, that understood, someone to lend a shoulder for him. Every barrier Haymitch had built up had started to crack this evening, and he knew that if he continued to see you that those barriers would surely crumble. Fast.
"Well," your voice broke the silence in the air. "This is me, thank you for walking me home, Haymitch." The way you say my name sounds heavenly, he thought. "Would you like to come in for a while? It's not too late just yet."
Haymitch smiled, holding your door for you to enter and following behind. Always a gentleman, you thought. Your home was quaint and small, but still very cozy. You did what you could with the little you had, and he could see it. His home was not nearly as welcoming.
"Please, have a seat. Would you like another drink?" you brought him out of his thoughts, as Haymitch sat on your couch.
"One more couldn't hurt, I'm sure." Haymitch smiled over to you, and he looked different inside your home. He looked much more relaxed, and a lot let tense than in the bar. The glow of the dim candles in your front room highlighted him in all the right places. Bringing the bottles round, you joined him and laid your head against the back of the sofa.
Haymitch took the time to study you. The soft features of your face at ease as you closed your eyes, he couldn't really look away. Your mouth was parted slightly, strands of hair falling around your face. It was like one of those famous paintings you see in museums. He forced his eyes away for fear of you noticing him staring.
"You know," Haymitch started, playing around with his bottle. "I don't want to overstay my welcome, if you want to sleep then I don't mind leaving."
He did mind, in fact. He really wanted to stay. You opened your eyes and looked over to him, a gentle smile on your face and shining eyes. God, he could kiss you right there. Haymitch wanted to remember this sight forever.
"I would want you to do no such thing."
The rest of the night was spent chatting aimlessly, laughter and relaxed banter between you. Somehow, you had ended up with your head in Haymitch's lap, as you lay staring up at him. His hand found its way into your hair, fingers tangling into your locks with such care.
"And then, I basically-"
Haymitch paused his story mid sentence, as his eyes landed down on you to find your eyes closed and your breathing steady. He took a few moments just to stare, wondering how he had gotten so lucky to be in this position. There were so many who you could have chosen to talk to that day, someone closer to your age even. But, for whatever reason, you had chosen him.
"Bored you that much did I, sweetheart?" he laughed to himself, keeping his voice quiet. Haymitch noticed his body felt heavy, the drink having caught up with him. Not wanting to move you nor leave without you knowing, he shifted to lie down on your couch and kept you lay with him. You stirred a little, instinctively wrapping your arms around his waist as you snuggled yourself into his side. Your head rested on his chest, the rise and fall of his own lulling you back to sleep immediately.
Haymitch slept like a baby that night. The rest was history.
Which brought you here, now.
That was two years ago, almost. You had been dating Haymitch for a year and a half of that, and to be honest it had been wonderful. Haymitch was doting, and protective. He never could get enough of showing his affections, whether that be through kisses and cuddles or other means. When he had moments of vulnerability, you never ran nor did you judge. You were just there for him, allowing him the space and resources he needed to start healing.
Haymitch all but lived with you at this point, and it had been nice to have someone in the house with you. No matter the day you had, almost always you would open the door to him, waiting for you with love and care. Haymitch would hold you, whisper sweet nothings into your ear
Some days were great, but some like today were not so brilliant.
You had spent the day baking, mostly. The idea to surprise your love came to you that morning, and you got excited. All but shooing him out of the house with a kiss and a promise of a 'special something' on his return. With a suggestive wiggle of his eyebrows and your hand swatting him out of the door, Haymitch left with a smile and you got to work.
The day had disappeared, and before you knew it, it was dark outside. It must be at least 7pm, you thought. Knowing Haymitch would be home soon, you hurried to tidy the kitchen as best you could before checking on the oven. With all well, you switched it off to let it cool naturally, taking a seat on the couch exhausted. The day caught up to you, and you lay down in attempt to just rest for a few minutes, and fell asleep.
It couldn't have been more than an hour before you heard the door close and the sound of shuffling in the hall, waking you with a small jolt. As you rose to regain your bearings, you brought your body to sit up on the couch. Standing, you realised you hadn't brought the bread or cakes out from the oven where they were resting. You wanted this to be a surprise and a nice set up for him, but having fallen asleep, you missed the chance.
As your legs began to walk towards the kitchen, your eyes fell on a disheveled Haymitch in the door frame. He was leaning against it, clearly not in a happy mood. He could barely breathe your name out before taking a stride towards you and burying his face into the crook of your neck.
"Haymitch," you whispered, catching him in your arms and holding him. "Come here, love."
Gently leading him back to the sofa, you sat and allowed him to hold you however he needed. Haymitch curled into your smaller frame, taking in deep breaths of air in attempt to calm himself down. You didn't ask, nor pry, he would tell you in his own time. Haymitch's frame hung heavy, his grip around you tightening as he let out the frustrations of the day.
"Don't worry, I've got you," you spoke softly into his ear, your fingers running gently through his blond hair. "You're safe here, Haymitch, you're safe inside this house."
Haymitch let out a soft cry, something you had never really seen him do. Perhaps your mind was playing tricks on you, you had thought, until you became aware of the wet patch forming on your chest. Haymitch was crying. Your heart broke.
For as long as you had been with him, or around him for that matter, he always was rather strong. Never one to cry, never one to show those emotions where possible. He was always there to catch you when you fell, to care for you on the bad days and to love you through everything. For all of his faults, Haymitch could not be accused of being heartless.
Haymitch's sobs eventually quieted down, and the shaking of his body had lessened. To see him in such a vulnerable state hurt you, but you knew right now all he needed was for you to be here. He had gone so still that you wondered if he had perhaps fallen asleep.
"Hey," you whispered to him, giving him a small shake. "Still with me, handsome?"
"I love you." His voice was hoarse and muffled, but you heard him clear as day. That phrase had been burned into your brain ever since he said it the first time. You couldn't miss it, and he never stopped telling you.
"Well, that isn't what I asked," you joked, trying to lighten the mood just a touch.
"I do," he said, raising his head to look you in the eye. "I really do, so much."
Now seeing him in the light, Haymitch looked awful. His eyes were red and bloodshot, and his face was darker than usual. He wasn't his normal self, and it pained you to see. He sat upright and pulled you over to him, resting a hand on your thigh whilst the other gently stroked your face.
Haymitch continued. "I love you more than anything. I just don't want you to forget that."
You smiled softly to him. "How ever could I forget? You say it and show it every day."
"As long as you know it, that's what matter to me, darling. Had a rough day, if you couldn't tell," the slight, ever so slight joke to his voice showed you that he was over the worst of whatever it was.
"What's brought this on? You don't have to talk about it, but I'm here if you do. You-"
Haymitch cut you off as he pulled you onto his lap, your legs either side of him. His hands held your waist, eyes gazing up at your face with so much love in them. Carefully, you held his face in your hands, your thumbs running across his skin. One of Haymitch's hands ran down your thigh and back up, as the other found its home on your back, beckoning you closer to his chest. As your body hit his, a small sigh of content left his lips.
Haymitch just held you there, his hands running everywhere they could, mapping out your body as he went. You pressed a kiss to his throat, leaving a trail up towards his lips. Stopping before him as a silent way to ask permission, Haymitch closed the gap and kissed you. Unlike his normal kisses, filled with passion and intensity, this was softer. He needed this. He poured every ounce of love, every feeling he had for you into it, his hand that was once on your back now entangled in your hair.
Pulling back, he stared into your eyes again, taking steady breaths.
"You're my angel, sweetheart. I really don't know what I'd do without you here."
You made a very overly exaggerated thinking face, before leaning in close to him and smirking.
"You'd be without cake, and fresh bread for one."
Before he could question it, you took his hand in your smaller one and led him to the kitchen. Sitting at the table, he was reluctant to let your body leave his own. With a reassuring smile that you were only going to the oven, you brought the goods out to his happy surprise. Placing them on the table, you looked at him for approval.
"These look lovely, darling," he said with a genuine smile, his face already looking a lot more lively than when he had first come home. "You're good with those hands, I'll say that."
The suggestive tone in his words wasn't lost on you, and you narrowed your eyes back at him and stuck your tongue out. Haymitch caught your chin in between his thumb and forefinger, leaning his mouth close to your ear.
"I'd put that tongue away or use it, if I were you."
You gasped, but he just let go with a chuckle. Sitting in the chair besides him, Haymitch left a hand on your leg as you both ate, hoping the familiar feelings of home might take his mind off the bad day. He stole glances at you here and there, fleeting touches as you dined. This is what Haymitch wanted. When it was finished, you stood and began to clean.
"Ah, now just what are you doing?"
You furrowed your brows, stopping in your tracks. "Clearing.. the uh, table?"
"Nope."
Haymitch grabbed your arms and pulled you to him. His strong arms held you tight, lifting you with ease as he stood himself to leave the table.
"Haymitch! The table-"
"Ain't going anywhere, love. But we certainly are." He cut your protests short, winking and stealing another kiss from you. "Before you get any thoughts of any kind, we're sleeping because I'm tired."
Leaning in close to his ear and pressing a small kiss to his cheek, you giggled. "We both know that isn't true."
The night was spent close to each other, making sure the love you both held was felt between you. Haymitch never failed to make sure you were cared for and adored in every way he could. Not just for you, but for him too. To remind himself that he can love and shouldn't be afraid to show that. You were his world, the one thing in life he had left to protect.
You kept Haymitch sane, you kept him in check.
Because even through the darkest days, his fire burned always.
