Brief no.3: Tarentino+ Disney Brief

Purpose:

Using Tarantino’s unique storylines, satirical subject matter, unapologetically use of violence, extended scenes of dialogue and references to popular culture film style—you’ll reimagine a scene from Snow White of no more than 120 seconds for the modern day

A great reference to look at is Baz Luhrmanns’ interperation of Romeo & Julliet — While it retains most of the original Shakespearean dialogue, the film represents the Montagues and the Capulets as warring mafia empires during contemporary America, with the "swords" and "daggers" mentioned in the original text being swopped for models of guns.

Who:

Working in pairs, the first step is to choose your scene carefully, think about how Tarantino would approach this interpretation—You must retain the dialogue, but your free to change the meaning, connotations and visual representation.

Format:

Develop your ideas with the aim to produce a short film of no more than 2 minute.

Consider how composition, narrative, characters and sound influence what you do, and don’t film—Don’t forget, sometimes its more powerful to not show something but allude to it instead.

This is a 4 person group project and you will deliver ONE FILM — work together to generate ideas, plan and decide on your role in the project, give constructive feedback, listen to each others ideas and thoughts and develop the best version of your idea—Don’t forget that you will need to evidence your contribution.

We will have discussions as the day progresses and have a final class discussion at the end of the day.
