its a bit funny sometimes how like theres a homestuck mspfa out there thats literally like just 2k pages away from having the same amount of pages as homestuck. but like nobody knows about it

If 2012 is the rise of the AUs, then 2013 is the rise of the EPICS. Hackbent, if I could read it, is one such example; and these last two comics, LUCIDSTUCK and FORTUNA (especially FORTUNA), are some of the longest fanadventures on the entire site. I don’t know if that necessarily makes sense, but it makes sense to me, and this is ultimately my journey I’m undertaking.

But like. Lucidstuck has an entire ACHIEVEMENT LIST. And it’s STILL ONGOING. AND STILL UPDATING. TO THIS DAY. That’s *insane* to me, somehow.?

Also, love how it credits where it got the posters on the wall from when it’s fanart. Pretty cool, methinks, to credit people for when you take their work directly to put it into your work. Cool to see that.

Ouch. The sister character types in ALL BRIGHT YELLOW. Which I think is intentional, considering how she sometimes drops to a Black when saying a familial term, but…wowza, this is quite something on the eyes. Luckily it gets addressed…by making the text invisible unless you highlight it, but at least it’s not passively burning my eyes now!

Also, I guess I should mention that it’s like. Actually trying to pretend that it’s a game. Which, wow, it’s been a long time since we’ve seen one of THOSE, right? Yeah, this is 100% trying to be a game, because it has a sequence in which we go through the entire rig-a-ma-roll of just. Each monster’s attack turn and the damage they deal, panel by panel.

This one, just like Superego, is a horror comic, and does that dark, claustrophobic atmosphere *really* well. Almost like MSPFAs as a medium are really good at that HMMMM I wonder…it’s so good at doing it’s job that I had to stop reading at a certain point because I was reading in the dark and it was starting to kind of freak me out a little bit? But now that it’s lighter (and brighter) I can read it again, thank goodness.

I’m also kind of ruminating on how these sort of “mechanical heavy” MSPFAs ultimately end up creating mechanics in which the audience can interact with and create plot points out of, or how the mechanics later on become very abstracted. You decide whether or not this character wakes up from a blackout dream, and when, etc. That sort of thing. I don’t know, it’s interesting. Although a bit of a pitfall that heavy mechanical MSPFAs can fall into is that they…uh…don’t really read quite as well as an archival reader than as a serial reader, since if the author doesn’t have a deft hand, they can drag on for a long time, and I’m starting to feel some fatigue with Lucidstuck tbh.

I like the effect of the school being like. A Stock Photo, compared to the drawn background of the house. Whenever MSPFAs do this kind of stuff, I really like it.

I uh…I got really engaged by the start of the fanadventure, but now that we’re done with introducing all the premise of the entire story…yeah I’m gonna say I’ve seen enough for now. This wasn’t a bad story, and it was compelling the start, and gave me lots to talk about, but…yeah. I think I’ve had my fill.

Do you read any MSPFAs? if so, what do you think of them (especially the popular ones)?

i am an #oldhead so naturally i used to read a bunch but most of these have long been discontinued. i was fully dedicated to nightfall for a while and pretty much got my start on the mspa forums + broader homestuck fandom through that comic so i am very excited to see it making a return... out of everything else i read i think maybe lucidstuck is still going. i would rly like to find the time to reread that one someday...

none of the comics that r currently "popular" have ever caught my eye to be honest i think i got about 50 pages into vast error years and years and years ago before it was ever popular and never came back to it

Hey, if you don't mind i would like to reccomend you a fan adventure from mspfa called "Lucidstuck". Is pretty long and good (even if i wasn't abble to catch up on it and now have to go from the start cause i forgot most of what happened) it has interesanting characters and fun mechanics based in a dream world, also has some horror elements to it. Also even if it use the same sprite style it has nothing to do with homestuck. (Sorry if i can't explain very well, arguments are not my strong point)

Oh I always like dream stuff! I may give it a check. :3

I sadly never get into fan adventures because usually they get dropped off and I sit here feeling unfufilled.
