When I first saw our to-be puppy at the shelter, I thought he looked like the dog equivalent of a black rain frog. He was the ugly duckling of his litter but my mom decided to pick him because he was making funny pig snorts when sniffing her hands. Nowadays he is a real head turner, whenever I walk him in public spaces people will go out of their way to tell me how cute he looks. Every single time. My stumpy stumpy boy

If you're still taking mortasheen questions - Can you tell us any lore stuff about the ultimate bioconstructs like hestermoan?

Mortasheen's original three "legendaries," Hestermoan, Tormanshee and Mothneaser, all have names that are anagrams of "Mortasheen," which itself is the name of a disease spread by the Nuckelavee in folklore. They were imagined to be three "kaiju" that would be completely frightening and disturbing with none of the whimsy or silliness of other Mortasheen monsters, and also broadly represent their three common categories: a physical attacker, a mental attacker, and a bioweaponry wielder. Hestermoan is the biggest and strongest and basically Mortasheen's "Godzilla," Tormanshee was meant to have a nasty Silent Hill kind of vibe and spreads "madness" while Mothneaser collects your blood and turns it into other monsters. They're so old by now, they conflict with a lot of the "style guide" i have in my head. I know I just said that was kind of their point, but there's other internal guidelines I impose on the setting that I'd like them to follow by the time I introduce them into the RPG, and they might change a bit drastically, but hopefully they'll keep the same vibe.

Tormanshee in particular was based on one of the very oldest Mortasheen monsters, a simple embryo in a floating bubble, which I then brought back as the "tormite" here and tied them together, also giving Tormite one huge open eye so it can also read as a floating eyeball.

Now for the RPG I'm using Tormite again as the lowest-level and most common psychokinetic creature, though I turned it back into a sleeping embryo thing with its eyes closed:

If you liked the "simultaneous eyeball" gimmick, don't worry! I'm doing a thing with that! I don't know what yet, but one idea is that they kind of "wake up" and then they start to evolve various forms from there.

I think Tormanshee will still connect with them somehow, too, like their "termite queen," but my design ideas for it are a whole lot more elaborate. They still have the "silent hill pregnancy demon" vibe but with a whole lot more body, kind of from a "what if this was also an ultraman kaiju or an evangelion angel" angle.

The more current concepts I had for Hestermoan are odd enough I don't want to spoil it, and it was originally going to be included in the first book - sorta - but we're holding off on it for now and may release them as free supplemental monsters. I also kind of like the idea of doing so because it has a similar feeling to Mew and other "secret" legendary Pokemon. Maybe their first release would even be through a really silly and gimmicky exclusive medium, before they get released as free public downloads.

My newer concepts for Mothneaser are all over the place, but it still has nothing whatsoever to do with moths. I just really like the sound of the name. All three still have the lore that they wake up only when the city's existence is threatened. This is monumentally rare because the city is the size of a continent and it's alive enough to regenerate from almost anything.

Only Friends: Can Ray be Redeemed? Is Sand the Solution?

I know Ray has upset a lot of people in Episode 8. I do find it really fascinating how quickly the tide has turned on him, especially when you compare his actions to those of our villains of the first arc: Boston and Top. Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I still choose to believe that Ray does care. He's hugely misguided but not heartless.

Let me firstly preface that none of what I'm about to say excuses Ray's behaviour but is an attempt to unpack why I still hold hope.

A child lost with no anchor

Ray is emotionally immature (which as cliché as it sounds, is a direct product of his upbringing - or lack thereof). He largely operates on basic needs, as a child would: 'I want. I need'. It's all based on serving the self. He seems wildly incapable of thinking very far beyond that. Like a child, he can barely take care of himself, let alone anyone else. He's pretty helpless on his own in a lot of respects. Most people grow out of this. Through knocks and hardship, we learn the world doesn't revolve around us and how to equip ourselves with healthy and appropriate means to navigate through life. Ray however, still seems to be stuck in his infantile box.

I often joke that Ray is a bit feral, but there is some truth to that. Ray's been left to his own devices for the majority of his life. So it's no surprise he's developed this 'me against the world' attitude which is volatile and defensive, but ultimately keeps him caged in said box.

These traits are abundantly apparent in his relationship with Mew. Ray is the vehicle for Mew's self-destruction, but all he sees is the exhilaration of having a 'partner in crime', someone to be in 'cahoots with'. Like a pair of naughty school kids getting into mischief, rather than an adult partnership. Ray is all about immediate gratification over long term fulfilment because (as children do), they don't possess the wisdom and experience to think ahead. Ray seems unable to grasp repercussions or consequences in his decision making. It's always act first, think second.

To put it simply, Ray hasn't been taught boundaries and how to respect them. He just gets criticised for crossing them which doesn’t help him learn. No one has had the patience to teach him why and how. To guide, to steer, to direct, to mentor. To educate rather than scold. Prevention rather than cure. As a result, everyone around Ray serves to clean up his messes rather than equip him with the ability to not create them in the first place. He falls into patterns of behaviour that no one has seriously attempted to break which has only amplified with adulthood. The longer those habits prevail, the harder they are to change.

Does Ray harbour ill-will or bad intent?

Is Ray the worst? In my opinion, no. (Not yet anyway - I might eat my words later, who knows). I've said this somewhere before but intent makes all the difference when judging someone's actions. Choosing to actively cause harm whilst being fully conscious of the impact versus triggering damage to occur as a symptom of your behaviour is vastly different. This is where Ray and Boston differ. Boston acts without remorse, he purposely and calculatingly makes choices that will cause the maximum degree of suffering. Whereas Ray's a loose cannon. He leaves a trail of destruction where he goes, due to a lack of control and means to channel how he feels in a constructive manner. Boston's victims are targets, whereas Ray's victims are collateral.

I don't think Ray means to purposely hurt or harm the people he cares about. Because in doing so, he'll push them away - which is precisely what he doesn't want. (Though saying that, Ray doesn't seem to give as much of a damn if it's people he isn't invested in, such as Top). Ray's world consists of what Ray needs. It's not that he doesn't care about a single person besides himself, he's just so wrapped up in his own needs to even gauge the bigger picture.

When others do point out to Ray that he's hurt them, he does tend to look guilty and taken aback, as if he's thinking, 'But I didn't know. No one told me. I had no idea my actions would cause you to be upset'. Painful levels of ignorance. But I also see a huge amount of internalised frustration. 'But why? Why didn't anyone explain this to me? How was I to know?'

Ray is capable of showing remorse, of displaying guilt. He's not cold-blooded. Anyone who can demonstrate compassion is capable of redemption. Ray is seen to be genuinely appreciative and grateful when people are good to him. He's fiercely protective over people he cares about. Ray was also willing to jump in when Sand gets a call from his mum being in trouble.

One thing I do have to stress is the difference in Ray's demeanour when he's severely drunk/high versus when he's sober. His addiction tends to amplify his most primal desires, his most 'childlike' traits. The uglier sides of Ray presented in their worst light, set to maximum. The raging tantrums, the absurd and unpredictable demands, an explosive and dangerous impulsiveness. People often refer to addiction as a form of sickness, which is worth noting when the person under scrutiny is effectively not well.

Learning by Example

Now let's talk about the huge importance of Sand in this equation.

Let me be clear - it's not Sand's responsibility to teach Ray how to grow up or behave more like a functioning adult. It's neither his duty to be a stand-in parent or caretaker. The unfortunate truth is that Ray doesn't have anyone in his life who plays that role. Who is the voice of reason. To keep him on the straight and narrow. In order to actually incite change, Ray needs to be receptive to whoever is trying to help him. We've seen he doesn't respond particularly well to the majority of people in his life. He's defensive with his father, his friends, deflective and pandering with Mew. The only person he's seen to show any signs of actually listening to and registering is Sand.

Whilst it's not fair on Sand, he might be the only person who has any real chance of encouraging healthy and positive growth in Ray. Because Sand loves Ray, he genuinely wants to see improvement for Ray's own good. I don't think it's a coincidence that we tend to see Ray's more endearing side when he's with Sand. His childlike qualities take on a sweeter, more harmless, playful tone.

He needs someone with an almost parental level of unconditional love to not give up on him, where others have thrown in the towel. Ray's character is essentially a personified cry for help. His mother was unable to cope. His father seems chronically exasperated and far too busy to actually be present. His friends have always seen him as bothersome and too much of a handful.

I personally don't want to write Ray off as a lost cause. Ironically, Sand may be the saviour he didn't ask for, but the one he really needs. Someone who can save him from himself.

How do you groom a Mew?

This guide is tragically going to have to be a hypothetical as I have never had the pleasure of meeting a Mew (😭).

The first thing to consider is their reported ability to learn any move. While many Pokemon are affected by their typing, the moves they use can also affect their general state if used commonly (muddy, static-ruffled fur, dried out skin). Because of this, general care for a mew could be wildly different, ESPECIALLY if it commonly transforms into certain Pokemon.

Second is their habit of flying and floating and flipping around. It's likely that they could get leaves and twigs stuck in their fur (even though it's short). So a general approach of looking them over and removing any detritus that they haven't gotten to would be helpful.

I can't speak to any shedding behavior (though, again, short fur!) but it would be a good idea to give them the occasional brushing to remove any dead hairs. Either a proper de-shedding brush or a bristle brush are good tools for keeping them clean.

Now, I'm not really sure about their grooming habits. They might be self cleaning in which case the occasional bath and brush would be fine. They might not be in which case a routine should be established. It depends.

but like . two of my fav characters are Cobalt and the Mew of Reality (Reality) from this pmd-webcomic called “Hope in Friends”.

cobalt is a bully who has no qualms beating up a BLIND kid. Reality is malnipulative and is implied to have purposefully guided her basically demigod servants into darker paths. one onscreen confirmed. they are fucking aftiad of her because shes known for just. killing you with a thought. erasing people possibly with a blink. and by god her actual oncomic appearance is tone different than her older reference art. she just looks. malicious. you know shes up to nothing good but when you see that flashback with oxide hoping for advice. im just going “OHHH NOOOO DUDE “.

what to say about solas dragon age..... I have many complex feelings about him. i played inquisition first so I was very new to the world and if you don't know inquisition has a very rough start, everyone is mean and wants you fucking dead. solas was the first character i met that was neither of those things so of course i imprinted on him like a baby duck, every major choice that u needed to make i ran it by him first to check what his approval rating would be. as a mew player he was my guiding light to the lore and world of dragon age and I was desperate to make him proud of me. later once I played the other games i realized how arrogant and condescending he can actually be but i still love him. now I just have a habit of bullying him too. Im using Morbid Sims Ultimate Legacy as a guide for my story. It is currently early 1300s. So, children do die during this time period. In this chapter we go have this happen.

The heavy oak door closed with a finality that echoed through the room, sealing Drakaida within its confines. She paced the length of her room, footsteps muffled by the thick rug beneath her feet. She tried to push aside the fear and doubt that threatened to consume her, 'what would her father's punishment be.'

The daylight passed slowly outside her window, but still, Drakaida remained trapped within her prison, her mind a whirlwind of regrets and what-ifs. Had she made the right choice in letting the soldier go free? Or had she doomed herself to a fate worse than death?

As the hours stretched on, she emerged herself in her studies. She knew that he wouldn't leave her locked away forever, knew that she would have to face her father's judgment eventually.

Kaida sat by the flickering hearth, her eyes filled with worry and concern. The news of her daughter's actions and punishment had reached her ears like a thunderclap, shattering the fragile peace of their home.

Beside her, her husband, Drakaida's father, paced the length of the room, his brow furrowed with anger and frustration.

"I can't believe she would do something so reckless," he muttered, his voice thick with emotion. "She knows the consequences of her actions; knows the danger she's put us all in."

"She did what she thought was right," Kaida said softly, her voice barely more than a whisper.

"What about Drakaida; she is our daughter, our flesh and blood." Kaida tried a different approach. "The soldier is gone, he has not come to attack us, let it go"

"Our children don't know their heritage, Drakaida is the heir to the throne and does not even know it" she implored, her eyes searching her husbands for understanding. "They don't understand the sacrifices that were made, the blood that was spilled just for us to be together. All they see is the war, the hatred, the endless cycle of violence."

Her husband listened in silence; his expression unreadable as he considered her words. The weight of their family's legacy pressed heavily upon him.

As the seasons turned and the world outside began to awaken from its winter slumber, a sense of renewal filled the air. In the garden, Kaida and Siora, Drakaida's younger sister, spent their days tending to the earth, their laughter a melody that echoed through the trees.

From her window, Drakaida watched them with a mixture of longing and regret. The news of her mother's pregnancy had brought a spark of joy to their home.

As she watched Siora put her hand in Kaida's belly feeling the new baby kick. With a sigh, she tore her gaze away from the window and turned back to the solitude of her room. She closed her eyes and whispered a silent prayer for her family, for her unborn sibling.

Sarya is upset that with Drakaida locked away in her room, her duties as caretaker of the Dragons and Hawks fell to her.

With a deep breath, she pushed open the doors to the mews. The Dragons and Hawks greeted her with curious chirps and rumbles, their eyes gleaming with intelligence.

As the days stretched into weeks and Kaida's confinement drew near, Drakaida remained locked away in her room. Drakaida's father, burdened by the weight of his daughter's isolation and the impending arrival of his new child, relented to the pleas of his wife and allowed Drakaida to emerge from her room under the watchful eye of a guard.

With a mixture of relief and trepidation, Drakaida stepped out into the world once more, her heart pounding in her chest as she breathed in the fresh air of freedom. Beside her, the guard kept a vigilant watch, making sure she did not try to leave the grounds.

As the days passed and Kaida's pregnancy progressed, a shadow of concern fell over the Castle. Kaida had been getting sick more and more frequently and losing weight she should be gaining.

"Are you okay?" Drakon asked gently as he approached her in their chambers.

Kaida forced a weak smile, "I'm fine," she reassured him, though her words lacked conviction.

But her husband saw through the facade, his eyes filled with worry as he reached out to gently brush a stray lock of hair from her forehead.

"You don't seem fine," he said softly, his voice tinged with concern. "You've been getting sick most days. I'm worried about you, Kaida. We should have a healer look at you."

Kaida shook her head, her stomach churning with nausea as she struggled to find the words to reassure him. "It's just… it's just morning sickness, I am a healer I know what I am talking about" she insisted, though even to her own ears, the lie sounded hollow.

"I don't think it's just morning sickness," he said quietly, his voice filled with a mixture of fear and determination. "I think there's something more going on. We need to find out what's wrong."

As concern for Kaida's health and the health of the baby spread through the castle, Drakon, found himself faced with a dilemma. His wife's sickness weighed heavily on his heart, but he knew that he needed to be strong for their children, to reassure them and offer them comfort in their time of worry.

One evening, as the twins laid in bed the questioned him with furrowed brows and worried expressions, "Is Mama going to be okay?" they asked in unison, their voices filled with fear and uncertainty. "Is the baby okay?"

Drakon sat down on the bed beside them, his heart breaking at the sight of their concern. "we're going to do everything we can to help her get better."

The twins exchanged worried glances, their young faces creased with worry. "But what if she doesn't get better?" they asked, their voices trembling with fear.

Drakon took a deep breath, gathering his thoughts before speaking. "We don't know what the future holds," he said gently, his voice steady despite the turmoil that churned within him. "But we can't lose hope. Your mother is strong, and she's surrounded by people who love her. We'll get through this together, no matter what."

As the long-awaited day arrived, the air was thick with anticipation and nervous energy. Kaida, weakened by sickness lay in bed as pain consumed her body.

He handed the small baby to Kaida and she gladly accepted her into her arms. "Alara, we will call her Alara for my mother" she whispers kissing her small forehead.

In the weeks that followed Alara's birth, a fragile sense of hope had bloomed. Despite the initial scare, Alara had appeared to thrive, her tiny form growing stronger with each passing day, bringing a glimmer of joy to her family's hearts.

But then, as suddenly as she had seemed to recover, Alara's health took a turn for the worse. Kaida watched helplessly as her newborn daughter began to vomit up every drop of milk she consumed, her tiny body wasting away before her eyes.

As the days turned into weeks and Alara's condition continued to deteriorate, a sense of helplessness overcame the family. Kaida watched in anguish as her daughter grew weaker and thinner, her cries of pain echoing through the halls of their home.

Kaida finally realized that Alara was suffering from a rare and deadly illness, one that had plagued infants in their region for generations. All they could do was pray and hope for the best.

I wrote this after watching episode 8 and the events of the party, and the ease and grace with which Ray and Mew both ended their ultimately fake, ill-advised relationship in episode 9 just proved everything I said to me conclusively.

I think Ray asking to stay over at Mew's and trying to be physically intimate with him was Ray testing this for himself one last time and pushing himself to acknowledge it one last time- I think he knew Mew wouldn't cave, that Mew would turn him down, and he needed that to really settle in his own mind that things weren't going to work between them.

The morning after the party, we never see Ray at the house- I had hoped for his wake up scene, but instead we don't see him at all. That means he didn't even check on Mew before leaving, before getting ready for being at school and going to find Sand. Because he's figured out that Sand is his priority, Sand is the one he needs, Sand is who he loves, Sand is his true guiding star.

Yes he should have talked with Mew before kissing Sand at school, before driving two hours in the middle of the night to see Sand, before staying with Sand for two days and declaring his feelings and sleeping with him- but by that point Ray knew that he wasn't in love with Mew, and Mew wasn't even slightly into him romantically, and that whole situation was a sham.

I was expecting more of a reaction from Mew but the astonishing level of maturity from both of them in their reconciliation scene was so welcome and wonderful. THIS is what two best friends should be like. THIS is the kind of love that lives between them- forgiveness and acceptance and understanding and support, and hopefully with the lingering ghost of Ray's former infatuation now completely and definitively exorcised, Mew will be able to properly be a friend to Ray and stop holding him at an arm's length and dismissing his problems.

Now he's just got to take the steps to get healthy, and with Sand loving him and supporting him, and his relationship with Mew restored to where it should be and also being a source of love and support, hopefully he follows through.

Ray is not in love with Mew, and has not been for the entirety of this show.

Ray USED to be in love with Mew. 100%. Hundo P. We haven't seen the origin of their friendship, so we don't know for how long he was in love, but it was genuine, and deep. And that kind of love can get muddled when it lasts so long, and when it changes from romantic love to platonic love, those lines can get blurred.

Ray has gotten so used to the idea of loving Mew that he's become fixated on it. Mew as his emergency contact, Mew as his best friend, Mew as his love interest, Mew as his savior, Mew as the object of his adoration, all rolled up and blurred into one guiding star that he's been trying to reach for, to help him survive his depression, loneliness, and struggle with addiction.

When you love what someone means to you, and has been for you, more than you love the person that they have become and actually are, it can get hard to distinguish where one kind of love ends and the other begins, or that things have shifted at all.

Once he fell in love with Mew, he set Mew's heart as the destination for his path in life but at some point he went from actively hoping for that outcome and switched to being on autopilot in that direction.

Of course he loves Mew, he's always loved Mew, he always will love Mew. It's the open secret that everyone in the group knows. It's an established part of the framework of their group. Ray is in love with Mew, but Mew is not in love with Ray.

None of them have been really paying attention to Ray for a while now, though, and Ray is too lost to see it himself.

Why would Ray still go for Mew over Sand in this case, if he's not really in love with Mew anymore? Because everything that goes with being in love with someone gets so ingrained in a person that it's hard to break those habits, plus Ray does love Mew. A lot! Just as his best friend.

It hurt when Ray ditched Sand and their car make outs after the party, but if you take a step back from these characters in particular and Sand's sad boi reaction, and think about it as "a person has gotten home from a party and needs help, their friend absolutely should make sure they are in a safe space", it's an OBVIOUS choice for Ray to make. For anyone to make.

Ray has been taking steps towards Sand and away from Mew, but he's also had people reminding him that he's supposed to be in love with Mew, because that's The Thing About Ray that they have all set in stone themselves. It's an accepted fact of their reality. Really there's a long list of Things About Ray, from this to his addiction problems, and they've all- including Ray- resigned themselves to these things being true, like when Mew shrugs off Ray day drinking from a flask and is like "whelp, can't stop you". They've stopped seeing Ray as a person capable of change, so Ray has too, even while he's changing.

When you've wanted something for so long that you think you want it even when you don't anymore, and the opportunity presents itself for you to have it, of course you're going to take it. When that thing throws itself into your lap, you're going to hold onto it.

But you're going to realise pretty quickly that the thing you thought you wanted isn't what you want anymore. Ray is already in some stages of this- he went from happily dancing with Mew inside to telling Sand without much enthusiasm that they need to see if it works (and telling Sand that Sand is the one who makes him happy), he seems fairly disinterested when he's at the bookstore with Mew, he tries to convince Sand to do community service with him instead of Mew with music as the excuse, Mew won't kiss him and despite Boston guessing that they've already been sleeping together the heavy implication is that that's not the case even once, Sand is the person he's chasing around at the party and not Mew. When Mew does kiss him to piss off Top, Ray is enthusiastic for as long as the kiss lasts, and looks happy in the moment right after, but then it's Sand he's following and trying to kiss after that. He's not trying to get more from Mew. He's trying to get more from someone else.

Mew says to Ray at the end of episode 7 that he should love Ray. He should be in love with Ray. But he's not, and Ray's not in love with him. Mew and Top started their relationship by going through the motions but then caught actual feelings for each other; Mew and Ray are going through the motions but their hearts are both already somewhere else. Ray just needs to consciously figure this out before he hurts both himself and Sand too much, and before Mew uses him to the point of breaking for his own revenge fantasy.

Ray has already realised that Sand is the one who makes him happy, not Mew, but he's so far down in the depths of who he is supposed to be, that everyone keeps telling him he is, pounding into his head that he is, that he can't get himself out of it.

Sand is the only person who sees him as something else, something more- capable of becoming sober, capable of becoming better, capable of having feelings for someone that's not Mew, capable of being a happy person. Ray just has to open his eyes and see that it's true.

Tallstar's harshness towards Brushpaw and Tansypaw feels so weird knowing the growth he went through in his own super edition. I understand him needing to be stern and the kittypets having a lot to prove but him constantly wanting to give up on them bothers me. Like no shit they're not ready to be warriors at the same time as the Clanborn apprentices. They grew up without knowing about this life so they were unprepared and also the other apprentices had a two month headstart on them. Even without knowing they're sneaking off regularly, it's pretty fair to assume they need more time and practice.
