Wengen, a lovely, famous village for Ski World Cup races

Wengen is a lovely, famous Swiss village that hosts Ski World Cup races. It is situated in the area named Jungfrau Ski Region, in Bernese Oberland. Wengen is surrounded by high Alps` peaks, some of them are covered with snow even on summer. The village is located at an elevation of 1274 m. above the sea level. To arrive in Wengen is easy by cars, buses or trains. Wengen ( together with Murren, a village not far from Wengen) is car free. Cars and buses have to stop in Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald. From there, regional trains connect them with Wengen. Interlaken is the nearest city from Wengen. Interlaken is connected by Swiss railway with main Swiss towns and cities and with some European cities by international trains. From Interlaken Ost railway station there are regional trains every half hour to Wengen. There is no direct train from Interlaken West railway station to Wengen. From Zurich airport, Geneva airport and Basel airport, there are buses to main railway stations and from there, trains to Interlaken. Wengen is famous for FIS Ski World Cup races, developped at mid-January every year. Lauberhorn is the mountain between Wengen and Grindelwald that hosts World Cup alpine ski races. Thealpine combined takes place on Friday, the downhill is held on Saturday and the slalom ends the Wengen Ski World Cup on Sunday .

Wengen, the railway station There are many possibilities for day trips from Wengen, some of them are these: Jungfraujoch and Kleine Scheidegg. Maybe the most amazing trip is to Jungfraujoch, the top of Europe, located at 3.454 meters above sea level, between Mönch and Jungfrau mountains. The Jungfraujoch hosts the highest railway station in Europe. Things to visit here are a lots: Aletsch glacier, Ice Palace, Sphinx observatory, Alpine Sensation, Lindt highest chocolate shop. On summer there is a snow park that offers possibilities for sports activities.The train goes from Wengen to Kleine Scheidegg. From Kleine Scheidegg there is a cogwheel to Jungfraujoch. Kleine Scheidegg is a nice ski resort with hotels, chalets and restaurants. The railway from Kleine Scheidegg to Jungfraujoch is the unique way to reach the top of Europe.Männlichen mountain can be reached from Wengen by aerial cableway and offers a nice view of the area. There are restaurants and trails for hikers and skiers.Grindelwald First is situated at 2167 meters above sea level and offers a nice view on Eiger North Face. Here are restaurants . This is a nice ski area during winter, but main attractions are the suspended bridge First Cliff Walk (by Tissot), the First Flyer, the First Glider, the mountain cart trail. The viewing platform is a must see with a great panorama of surrounded mountains.Interlaken and Harder Kulm. Interlaken is a popular resort that offers amazing holidays not only on winter, but also during summmer. Intelaken old town has many elegant hotels and restaurants, expensive shops, a huge park and a nice Casino. Interlaken is located on shore of Thun and Brienz lakes and Aare river crosses the town. A funicular goes to Harder Kulm at 1322 m.above the sea level.
