From tomorrow until July 10, The Dark Figure* will be on view in a solo exhibition at the Holy Sepulchre London, Holborn Viaduct (opposite the Old Bailey) in collaboration with @a21, to raise awareness of modern slavery in Britain. #Reposting @peach_estate who featured The Dark Figure*, my project on UK modern slavery this week. . . . Thornhaugh Street, Russell Square, London. TQ 29929 82003 Lincoln's Inn Fields is home to two of the largest and most popular soup kitchens in London, and is also a well known trafficking hub. Traffickers will often wear high-vis jackets and will arrive in vans or cars, aware that homeless and unemployed people will congregate at certain areas at certain times. This provides them the opportunity to make a selection based on who looks most vulnerable. Alcoholics are commonly targeted and provided with alcohol and cigarettes in exchange for a ride, with no information as to where they are going or why. . . . The Dark Figure* maps the immediate surrounding neighbourhoods where victims have been held as modern slaves. . . . This week has seen modern slavery take centre stage of UK news. It's so important we're educated on this, so despite reading more horrific stories, I'm pleased they're being shared across mainstream media. I'll be making updates to my stories in the coming weeks, and will be making additions to the project over winter. Keep an eye. . . . I personally found the documentary very difficult to watch at times. But we must in order to gain a deeper understanding of what it means to be enslaved in the 21st century. Rosie Davies, born into slavery, finally escaped at age 30.
