Wednesday wind back: The Depot! Today we found remnants of Union Station history going back to at least 1986, when Union Station featured restaurants called The Depot & Spaghetti Freddy's. We stumbled across this gorgeous beach whilst camping at North Durras on the south coast of NSW. It was a perfect spot to relax and catch some late autumn sun protected from the wind.

Caamp - The Depot, Salt Lake City, UT (5th November 2019)

Caamp is a band that you need to know. The Ohio artists refer to themselves as "Ohio boys, making beautiful noise". The trio comes together to make music that is far beyond noise but is beautiful. The incredible vocals of Taylor Meier, rich banjo laden tracks, and storytelling lyrics give Caamp a unique charm. Consisting of childhood friends there is a heartfelt bond that is evident in a Caamp live show. The familiarity is projected as they move from song to song on stage. With chemistry that has grown as the band has gone from hazy attics to headlining festivals and even a spot on NPR's Slingshot - 20 artists to watch in 2019 list.

Photo from Caamp press kit Celebrating the release of their second album By & By the Ohioan trio made a stop at the Salt Lake City venue The Depot. It was the same stage that I saw Caamp at for the first time and was quickly won over as they opened for Rainbow Kitten Surprise in 2017. It was clear that I wasn't the only one that was won over that night as fans lined the block for entrance to the sold-out show for their return. Tour shirts and hats from that 2017 along with newly purchased By & By merch were scattered among the venue. To open the show Caamp played 'No Sleep' from the recently released By & By album with its smooth and nostalgic lyrics. Caamp has the power to transport you through lyrics, their music moves like a summers day. Listening to their music is cause for reflection. A road trip you took with friends, swinging off the lakeside rope swing, and other places that bring joy can be found through these silky folk tunes. https://youtu.be/g58hrz7BeBs Strong performances of the fun and up-tempo song 'Just Wonderin' and a cover of the Houndmouth's Penitentiary had the crowds attention properly fixed on center stage. The band moved from song to song with purpose, with little crowd interaction between songs with not much beyond "thank you" and "how are you?". The folk band was intentional in their set, fitting in as many songs as they could. The crowd was fortunate to hear a bulk of the By & By album and more from the Caamp catalog. Highlights of the night included the banjo infused 'Vagabond' which was a crowd favorite. 'Hey Joe' had the crowd jumping and singing with its lyrics. '26' slowed it down and created a truly beautiful and memorable moment in the crowd. Caamp is a true triple threat. With strong vocals, incredible melodies and guitar/banjo player Evan Westfall, and bass player Matt Vinson. Their songs can beautifully range from uptempo folk-rock songs to slow romantic songs you'd play on vinyl and dance in your living room. Live they are incredible and will play a night that you will remember. Their bond is contagious and you will feel that bond in return before you leave. You will find yourself wanting to put on a trucker hat and denim and be part of this band and friendship.
