LOA in a nutshell + troubleshooting
What do you want?
Now that you know what you want, how will it feel once you have it?
Persist in that feeling. Sustain the state of the wish fulfilled.
3D conforms
Troubleshooting:
"What if I don't know what it feels like?"
Persist in knowing it'll happen. I did this when I've never fallen in love before, I did not try to conjure feelings of being in love because how the hell would I know.
"Nothing's happening."
You didn't persist enough. Random but I made a script of my dream man on May 6th, 2021. Met my bf on May 17th that year and that's when I literally had a fling in between not working out. You think if I had stopped affirming, ruminated on rejection, not finding anyone, and thinking LOA is a scam would get me to where I am today? Again, persist.
"I been at it for X amount of days/months/years"
The problem here again is persisting. I know because if you truly had your desire, the 3D wouldn't affect you, you wouldn't be counting the days and the more you don't have it (which needs to stop honestly and will only reinforce your lack).
"How do I generate belief or get to the state of the wish fulfilled?"
There's so many methods out there and no real straight answer. Affirmations, visualizing, SATs, subliminals, scripting, been seeing the term "vaunting" or "rampaging." Vision boards. I think affirmations is the most simple and bare bones way, it doesn't require as much focus and effort as say, visualizing or scripting if you're lazy about writing (or typing). It's a personal journey in finding what works for you.
"Why's it so hard?"
You're making it hard when you look to the 3D for confirmation. When they say YOU are the confirmation, it's because it all starts with you, you decide whether you have it or not. Now, I know literally there's no physical or tangible 3D evidence so you're probably like "well how am I gonna tell myself I have it when I clearly do not." WELL! That's why use your imagination. Instead of waiting for the 3D, you need to allow yourself to experience the feelings associated with your desire or just know you have it. You want a partner because you want to feel loved, beautiful, etc? Well either allow yourself those feelings and dwell in it through your imagination or if that's too hard, just knowing and feeling certain it'll happen is fine. Honestly, it all starts in allowing yourself to have your desire before it's even there yet (in the 3D).
Final thought:
You have to live from your imagination. Successful people got to where they are today because they ignore all odds and 3D circumstances. We say persisting, but you know, it's all the same in having a dream, staying determined, don't give up, keeping your eye on the prize, being stubborn.. LIKE FORREAL, do you think the Scrub Daddy guy gave up on his business because no one wanted to invest on Shark Tank?! Do you think people of this community got their desires by dwelling in lack and victim mentality?
That's all I gotta say. 🫳🏻🎤

0828 28Nov24: Chapter 332
Thanksgiving
A holiday I haven't celebrated in two years...mostly because it's an American holiday celebrated in america...
Anyways... the wife got up before me... surprised.... she's been getting things ready and actually just told me that we need to get going soon.. so yeah... our family member from Australia backed out and isn't going to Angeles with us today, but we are going to stick to our current little plan where we will drop me off at my appointment and the friend and my wife will go take care of business and then come back at 230 to get me. After that I'm sure there are a few shops they will still need before we start our return trip home.
So yeah... that's my day in a nutshell for now. I am also wondering if Masonry Putty is heat resistant...I suppose later when I get home I could apply some to my earthen oven and then tomorrow start a little fire inside and let it heat up to see how it responds... if good... then I am going to design a few slabs to create a small fire place.. slabs being the walls of the fireplace so I can end up sticking them together with putty to create the full on fire place... should be interesting... hope it works... because then I would be in creative town for my 1/6th scale stop motion... one of the guys would become a sculptor! Ok gotta get moving!

IFA 2019 Consumer Electronics Unlimited. Berlin, 6 - 11 September 2019
Tumblr media
IFA 2019- the largest consumer electronics trade fair in Europe- kicks-off on September 6th 2019 in Berlin. The fair is a must for anybody interested in modern technologies and their increased application in our daily lives. Vasco Electronics could not miss the opportunity to take part in the event. FAQ: What is the motto of IFA? The motto of IFA is "The development of radio engineering". When was the first edition of IFA held? The first edition of IFA was held in 1924. Who was the patron of the 1933 edition of IFA? The patron of the 1933 edition of IFA was Joseph Goebbels. The technological progress we have been witnessing over the recent 100 years is indeed amazing. The nice gentleman we can see in the middle of this picture is none other than Albert Einstein himself. The picture was taken in August 1930 at the opening of Internationalle Funkausstellung Berlin also known as International Radio Exhibition Berlin- one of Europe's oldest technological trade fair. A look at the history of the fair makes us realize how long is the way mankind has travelled on the road towards technological progress in such a short time. The first edition of IFA took place in 1924. Organized under the motto: "The development of radio engineering", the fair was held in 4 halls rented for the event, all of which hosted 242 exhibitors. Even then the fair was quite an event. Speak More Languages Now Whereas in Germany the year 1924 marked the beginning of the so called Goldene Zwanziger (The Golden Twenties), in Poland it witnessed the introduction of the Polish Zloty and foundation of the Bank of Poland. 9 years later, in 1933 the fair was held under the patronage of Joseph Goebbels- Minister of Propaganda of the Third Reich. This edition witnessed the presentation of the Volksempfänger (people's receiver)- a radio-receiver designed by Otto Griessing and commissioned by Goebbels. More than 100 000 receivers were sold at the fair for the price of 76 Reichsmarks each.   The 1935 edition of the fair saw AEG present its first practical tape recorder, whereas the 1962 show witnessed Philips develop the cassette tape- a product still present in many households. Each year IFA witnessed presentations of the latest technological developments. This has remained the case to this day. In 2019, 95 years after the first edition of IFA, the show is considered the largest technological trade fair in Europe. IFA 1924       The 2017 edition hosted 1805 exhibitors from all around the world. The 2019 edition is likely to attract even more participants. The year's attendees will also include Vasco Electronics- a manufacturer and distributor of electronic voice translators. Their devices are becoming more popular with every year, while Vasco has established itself as the leading company in the electronic voice translator sector. Visitors to Vasco's booth at the IFA will have the opportunity to test Vasco Mini 2- the company's flagship voice translator or the brand new Vasco Translator Neo. The rapid growth of the voice translator industry goes hand in hand with the development of modern translation and voice recognition technologies. We warmly invite you to visit the booth of Vasco Electronics: hall 7.2C/125 In a nutshell: IFA is a yearly event that showcases the latest in technological advancements. This year, Vasco Electronics will be in attendance to display their latest voice translator models. With the ever-growing popularity of such devices, Vasco has established themselves as the leading company in the market. If you're interested in voice translator technology, be sure to stop by their booth and test out their products for yourself. Read the full article

Full Moon in Cancer!
Cold Moon!
Mercury Retrograde!
We started 2023 with a Cancer Full Moon (Jan 6th) & we are ending the year with a Cancer Full Moon (Dec 26th).
Get ready to feel all the feels, or if you’re like me, you’ve already been DEEP in them for at least 2 days now, & try not to be reactive from them.
This is a time of heavy emotional release (hello Cancer), as well as revisiting the past (mercury rx). That’s all well & good, as long as we don’t get caught up in these dated themes & emotions. Feel the feels, go through them, process the emotions, you can even study the past, but don’t get mired in it.
Use this time as a reflective, purging period, in order to start the upcoming year with a clean slate & a fresh mind.
Be gentle with yourself, everyone is going through it right now. Take a bath, visualize the things you want to leave behind as physical layers of dead skin to be shed in the water.
Close out the year with a full heart & an open mind. We always tell ourselves we are going to start tomorrow or Monday or whenever. This is the time to actually do it.
 •
Themes: purging
Keywords: Heightened emotions, closing doors (for good), clean house (literally, get rid of whatever you haven’t used in a year & donate it)
Be mindful if: Possible moodswings
In a nutshell: Feel all the feels
Use: Water! Take a bath, sit by the ocean/ any body of water nearby

Workshop Monday, November 6th: Simon Charlow, "Staged Updates"
Our speaker on Monday, November 6th will be Simon Charlow, who is Associate Professor of Linguistics at Rutgers. Simon will give a talk called ‘Staged Updates’:
Dynamic semantics treats sentence meanings as instructions for updating a body of information, and this perspective delivers beautiful, insightful, and appealingly general theories of anaphora. However, these theories don't validate double-negation elimination (DNE): dynamic negation is anaphorically opaque, and two negations are no less opaque than one. This prevents us from extending the insights of dynamic semantics to sentences with two negations (which license anaphora as well as positive sentences do) and Partee disjunctions ("either there isn't a bathroom here, or it's very well hidden"). While there have been several attempts to extend or amend dynamic semantics with a more classical negation, consensus on the right approach is elusive, and how these accounts relate to each other isn't well understood.
I'll propose an abstract, minimal interface for characterizing dynamic systems that validate DNE, and show how you can upgrade your favorite dynamic theory of anaphora into one that validates DNE. I'll discuss several different but equivalent concrete implementations of this abstract interface, show how to travel between them, and argue that existing theories of dynamic DNE, though superficially different, can be seen as manifestations of the same abstract core. In a nutshell, these theories all provide the means to stage dynamic updates, and execute staged updates on demand. We'll use simple algebraic manipulations to construct simple isomorphisms between "competing" theories and translate insights from one dynamic setting to another. If time permits, I'll discuss a fascinating connection between DNE and the exceptional scope properties of indefinites.
The workshop will take place on Monday, November 6th from 5:00 until 7:00 (Eastern Time) in room 103 of NYU's Linguistics Building (10 Washington Place).
RSVP: If you don't have an NYU ID, and if you haven't RSVPed for a workshop yet during this academic year, please RSVP no later than 10am on the day of the talk by emailing your name, email address, and phone number to Jack Mikuszewski at [email protected]. This is required by NYU in order to access the building. When you arrive, please be prepared to show government ID to the security guard.

stream-of-consciousness thinking out loud about everything
so I've been thinking a lot about my teaching days lately
I like, never talk about being a teacher or having a master's in education on this blog. mostly because I don't really.............. like thinking of it
in a nutshell: I wanted to be a teacher my whole life, since childhood, I got my degree in teaching english/literacy as a subject matter, and then I became a teacher and it was a hindenburg-type disaster
hired 2 days before the school year started because no one would hire me (now that I'm older and wiser I totally get it though)
hired for a grade level much younger than my training is for
GANBARE HATCHAN GANBARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU WERE TRAINING YOUR WHOLE LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
plan what I think are good, age-appropriate (6th grade) relevant real-world lessons--like there was hurricanes somewhere that week so my first few lessons were gonna be on hurricanes fuck yeah look at me go. I got the board set up, classrooms set up, do-nows and homeworks and alladat fuck yeah
and then, none of these kids can read
they can't do the things I'm asking
like they literally can't, I set my expectations way too high and I lost the thread before we even started
6th graders but their reading level is, 3-4th grade mostly. including some kids at 1st grade reading skills (3 letter words, sight words)
this is an area that's full of immigrants and refuges and people in generational poverty and i'm a white lady from "the suburbs" (I'm not from the suburbs, but a different borough that might as well have been the suburbs because where I was is mostly slums and projects)
no one wants me there
only a handful of my ~60 students have notebooks or pencils or school supplies of any kind
if I didn't spend half of my paycheck on school supplies, I wouldn't have anything in my classroom at all and my success with teaching anything would go from 5% to 0%
new york state gives a "generous government stipend" for teachers of $500 per year for school supplies. LMFAO HFDUS FJGSRIHNDK JDWAO SDFHDIUNJ KRHUSJ HUIJFNKSDFOLW JUEOJTS FDHUO
other teachers don't gaf about me (understandable, they have their own shit)
there's supposed to be 3 admin but there's only 2 at the start of the year, and one of them breaks her leg or gets sick or whatever so it's really only 1 admin for the whole school and there's so much on her shoulders
students are 1000000% uninterested in me, I never had their respect or attention or participation even a little bit.
got stabbed a couple times (not hard; pencils and unfolded paper clips I didn't get knifed or anything)
had some attempted poisonings (none successful) (kids putting cleaning supplies/hand sanitizer/perfume in my drinks)
had desks and chairs and books thrown at me, tbf they were also thrown at other kids and only started to be thrown at me after I stepped in to save another kid from being whacked with a bookshelf or whatever
all of the verbal abuse can be it's own post so lets not even get into it
the kids who don't know how to read WANT SO BADLY TO LEARN HOW TO READ. THEY BROKE MY HEART BECAUSE THEY TRIED. THEY REALLY WANTED TO TRY TO LEARN WITH ME. AND THEY COULDN'T.
95% of my in-class efforts are making sure that a) none of the minor children under my supervision get hurt or die or leave the room without my knowledge b) no one is screaming at the top of their lungs or playing with full volume on their phones
I GET IT. I get it. I learned enough about the way that poverty and trauma and homelessness mess with brain development. 100% I can't even hate the worst of my kids because.... they're 10 and I can tell their life sucks and they're acting out for pretty understandable reasons. lot of parents in prison, lots of grandparents raising their kid's kids.
like, over 50% of my students were homeless/living in shelters/unstable housing. most of the rest were in foster care. I know for a fact that the free meals provided by the school were the only consistent meal most of them would have
the day I brought in pizza was the calmest day I had
working 13 hour days with a 2 hour commute and going nowhere fast
thanksgiving break, the first four-day weekend of the school year, was what made me realize that this job was killing me. like on the 3rd day that I didn't have work is when I started to feel alive again. I lost a scary amount of weight in 3 months
I quit in december and I was the 6th teacher to quit that school year. first guy didn't make it a week
I wanted so badly to do it right. I want so badly to be a force for good in the world. I went into public service, teaching in a public school, because I was a public school city kid and I was so proud to be. and I love my city and I want to make it better and I want people to know how to read, how to think for themselves, how to get information from different sources, how to analyze and create and write, and I was a grotesque failure in all of those things. tried to kill myself some 5 months after leaving.
and now public education in america is getting worse, and worse, and worse, and worse, and I HAVE the skills and knowledge of an educator, and there's a part of me that hates myself for not being an educator. I have relatives that still regularly ask me when I'm going back because the kids need me, the country needs me.
and I............................. do want to do something with children. but I don't really have any kids in my life in the way of relatives or kids-of-friends (the kids that I am biologically related to are distant family back in my home country)
one of my clients, whose dogs I walk, has an autistic toddler and is pregnant again. I told her about my master's, my experience as a teacher, and she asked me if I would ever consider working in childcare. the implied point being, is working as a nanny or private tutor. it's not unheard of for a dog walker to pivot--in that same building, we had a guy who used to work with us (walking dogs) and then a client took a liking to him and hired him as a personal executive assistant. so it is within the realm of possibility for me to pivot from being a dog-care to child-care
because I told her (and I say this a lot, to a lot of people) that Dogs And Kids Are The Same. now that I have years of successful "teach this less-developmentally-mature sentient being the skills needed to be happy and behave appropriately" experience, I want to........................... give working with kids another shot................................... maybe......................... i dunno........................ we're gonna meet for coffee because she wants to hear about my experiences as a teacher which means I get to regale her with all of the above tales. I'm pretty sure that she and her whole social circle were private-schools-and-nannies kids so I wonder what she'll think of the reality of title 1 public schools. lmfao. but of all the snooty clients I have she's one of the nicest
but my boss, of dog walking, also sees my skills, praises my effort, and wants to help me grow. he wants to use my skills to develop the other walkers, grow the business, and be among the best-of-the-best canine care in the city. this job IS the lowest stress I've ever had, I'm good at it and I FEEL GOOD doing it. but taking on more responsibility WOULD mean taking on more stress because I'd have to be involved in scheduling things, negotiating stuff, firing and hiring more than I currently am. and I'd be salaried not hourly, meaning I'd be exempt from overtime......... but I would be making the same as I did as a public school teacher. and I wouldn't have to spend half of my paycheck on stuff to make my job possible. but, if I take on the extra work, that means I would basically close off the possibility of doing part-time work with children or teaching in some way. but also, I'm not doing that right now anyway, so idk if that should be part of my calculations,
but mostly I'm so scared of fucking things up.
it's one thing to be just another dog walker, or an assistant manager. I can handle myself no problem and I know I'm the bomb.com.co.uk.gov
the idea of being responsible for OTHER PEOPLE and the things they do, terrifies me. I can't control anyone else. I learned that the hard way that I can scream til I'm blue in the face and it doesn't make anyone listen to me or do the things I want them to do. and to MANAGE other people, to HAVE to in some way "control" what they do, terrifies me
god i couldn't sleep at all last night. this whole thing has me so fucked up
good news my boss is like totally willing and ready to give me a promotion and a raise. like, 30% more money than I'm making. on the low end. if I accept
bad news i'm terrified of responsibility and i'm uncomfortably certain of my own impending doom so what Should be taken as a vote of confidence (in me) has me trembling like a chihuahua because if something goes wrong and its my fault I will impulsively kms

This year - due to the current pandemic - there were to be two races in Austria, however to keep with the theme of ‘no two races the same’ they were to be called different things: the Styrian grand prix for the first race and the Austrian Grand Prix for the second. This weekend saw the first of the two and your boyfriend Carlos Sainz finished a respectable 6th place behind his former teammate and current best friend Lando Norris.
The majority of the grid had decided to stay in the surrounding area, making the most of the time they had - not only to keep on training but to explore.
Travelling the world with Carlos was a dream come true and you were so lucky to be able to do your job on the move - you were a travel blogger/vlogger and were pretty well known for it as well. A large following of people that enjoyed watching your weekly lifestyle and travel vlogs alongside the photography that came with it.
It was the Monday following the race so Carlos had taken it as a rest day, you had woken up that morning in his arms, tracing circles on one of them as you both spoke about your plans for the day.
“And a haircut is what I really need.” He said to you, as you moved a strand that had fallen into his eyes.
“No, I like it long, you look more -” You paused. “Mature.” Giggling, you moved your hands up to run your fingers through his hair. He shook his head at you, a large smile plastered onto his face. He leaned forward onto his forearms, connecting your lips together for a brief second before pulling away and rolling out of bed. Leaving you, still huddled in all of the covers, watching him as he strode across the room to the hotel chest of drawers, pulling out two t-shirts; one of which he put on and the other being chucked in your general direction.
“So, cariño, what is your plan for today?” Carlos asked, flopping onto the bed and looking up to you.
“I think I’m going to go and explore the town, some of my followers have recommended a few places so I think I am going to check those out, take a few photos-” You trailed off as he began to draw patterns onto the palm of your hand. You smiled fondly at him, you had met just before lockdown completely by chance after you bumped into him in a train station. He had asked for your number and feeling like he had given you no reason to say no, you did and as it turns out, it was the best decision of your life. “What is your plan for the day ahead, mi Amor.”
“I think I am meeting Lando this afternoon at a café down the road. I’m going to teach him to play chess.” He said proudly, emphasising the word ‘chess.’
“Chess?” You questioned, reaching over for the top and putting it on. It was one of his old team McLaren t-shirts, you scoffed at his still apparent loyalty to the team; admittedly it was your favourite but Ferrari didn’t need to know that.
“Yes.” Carlos stated, he then pointed at the t-shirt you were wearing. “I would recommend not leaving the hotel room with that t-shirt on. I don’t want to get into trouble.” He fought to keep the smile off of his lips. Your eyes lit up, “I wouldn’t even dream of it, mi Amor.”
You had agreed with Carlos that as soon as you had finished what you had set out to do that morning, you would meet him in the café alongside Lando. “Do you fancy playing a game of chess with me, later?” You had asked before you went your separate ways.
Carlos gave a lopsided grin and kissed your forehead. “We will see, cariño, we will see.” With that he stuffed his hands into his pockets and walked down the street. Styria was a beautiful town, a handful of buildings situated in the mass of rolling hills and mountain tops that covered the landscape for as far as the eye could see.
You had walked up to a stone viewing point at the peak of the town, a small bench that overlooked the south past Styria and into the Austrian countryside.
You loved this time you got to yourself, it allowed for you to sit and reminisce; bathing in all of the memories that lead up to this point in your life. You thought back to the day Carlos asked you to move to Italy with him - due to him changing teams. It almost broke your relationship, the thought of leaving all of your family and friends behind in England but in the end you decided it was an adventure too thrilling to pass on...
It was a breezy summer evening in London, the clouds had blanketed the city and a faint rumble of the traffic could be heard from your apartment. Carlos had messaged you earlier that day, asking if he could talk to you when he got home - for the remainder of that afternoon nerves had settled comfortably in the pit of your stomach. At last you heard the unlocking of the door, your head whipped around to see a tired looking Carlos to fall through the door with a sigh. As soon as he looked up and saw you sat on the sofa, his eyes gleamed. “Mi amor.” He said tiredly, his brows knitted momentarily before he nodded his head. “Right, my text message.” You nodded unsure of where this conversation was heading. It was early days in your relationship so anything was possible.
“I got an offer from Ferrari-” He started, making his way over to you, you watched him intently, nibbling on your lower lip. “It’s an offer that in this industry you don’t turn down, obviously there is a lot to consider because it would mean leaving McLaren and-” He sighed, “This country behind.”
A line appeared between your brows, you didn’t speak for fear of interrupting his train of thought. He took your hand in his.
“If I signed with Ferrari, I would have to move to Italy-” Your mouth made an ‘o’ shape. “Which is why I wanted to ask you if you would come with me.”
You definitely didn’t expect him to ask this, any expression that was on your face before had been wiped as you took to staring. “I’m asking a big thing and obviously you don’t have to answer straight away.” He rushed in response to your dumbfounded expression.
For the next few days - after that conversation - the atmosphere between the pair of you had become tense, you had decided to call your sister and explained the whole situation to her. In a nutshell she called you an idiot for not saying yes immediately.
“I’ve been thinking-” You began to Carlos that evening . “I would love to move to Italy with you. It’s a good opportunity to really write our story, explore the world - together. It will be such a great adventure.” Carlos didn’t need to ask you twice and he enveloped you into his arms and span you around, meeting your lips with his.
“I love you.” He said, placing his forehead on yours. That night was also the first time those three words were exchanged. “I love you too.” You replied sweetly, your lips brushing his as you did so.
You smiled fondly at the memory. You were so lucky to have found Carlos - actually you found each other - you like to believe that it was the universe who had a hand in it. Carlos was your soulmate and you were honoured to be able to call him that.
Deciding it was time you made your way back to him, you started on your journey back to the main town - down the steep, winding path, birds darting overhead and the chirp of crickets sounding in the hedgerows.
You reached the café and as soon as you opened the door, you were hit with the smell of warm coffee, you went over to the counter and ordered yourself a latte - casting your gaze around the old fashioned shop, you were surprised to see that only a few people were sitting inside; an older couple, who had taken extreme interest in the pair you were here to see. You chuckled to yourself as the barista placed your drink onto the counter in front of you.
“Drew quite the crowd earlier.” He leant over the counter, pointing to the pair, they were stuck in an intense game of chess and by the looks of it - Lando was winning. Carlos looked up, shaking his head as Lando moved another one of his pieces off of the board; as he did he noticed you standing there and waved you over.
“Yes, I bet they did.” You chuckled, taking the drink and nodding ‘thanks’ to him. Carlos pulled a chair up for you and motioned to the chess board in anguish, “You will not believe it, mi Amor. He is beating me.” Lando was sat on the other side wearing a cocky grin and his arms crossed onto the table.
“So what you are trying to tell me, Carli , is that you taught Lando too well and now he is beating you.” You pointed out, the corners of your eyes crinkled. Carlos only glared at you, sighing dramatically. Lando played incredibly well and did take the victory, punching his arms in the air as he called out ‘checkmate.’
“The student becomes the master.” He cheered, high fiving you and offered to shake Carlos’ hand but Carlos pouted and pushed it away with his index finger. “No. How on earth did you win? I’ve only just taught you.” He cried out.
You looked at Lando as Lando looked at you, both fighting the urge to laugh. You couldn’t hold it in as you held onto the table - both doubling over.
“I love you, Carli, I really do but - boy - are you a sore loser.” You managed to say.
“Well, cheers, mate.” Lando said getting up, wiping the tears from the corner of his eyes. “I’m going to head off now. Dinner with Jon.” You waved as he left, fist bumping Carlos on his way past.
“Do you fancy a game with me now?” You asked, your elbow was resting on the table so you leant on the heel of your palm.
“On one condition.” Carlos said, setting the chess board back up, “As long as you promise not to beat me like Lando just did.”
“Of course, mi Amor.” You said, a hint of mocking in your tone. You admired the way he scrunched up his nose as he concentrated, working out what his first move was going to be.
“The aim of chess is to be in control of your opponent, you want to be able to trick them into doing exactly what you want them to do.” Carlos said, moving his first piece. “You have to play with dominance.” He added theatrically.
“You want me to be dominant?” You repeated incredulously, a smirk toying with your lips. “Well, why didn’t you say so. After all this time-”
“Mi Amor.” He gasped, lowering his voice. “Not like that -” He stammered, a pink flush rising up his neck. You only winked in reply and made your move.
“Go on, tell me more about chess.” You urged him on, watching as he went to make his move. He paused, met your gaze and narrowed his eyes. You shrugged innocently and he carried on; his gaze softened as a reminiscent haze coated his eyes.
“You know,” Carlos began, placing the chess piece down and resting both of his elbows onto the table. “When my dad first met my mum, he taught her how to play chess and they used to sit in the kitchen on a Sunday morning after church and play. It was then my mum who taught me, on the weekends when my dad was away racing; we used to sit in the kitchen together on a Sunday after church and play. It was always the highlight of my weekend.” You watched as he fondly spoke about his family, warmth filled your chest.
“You teach me well then and maybe we could turn it into a tradition.” You spoke gently, reaching over the table to take his hand in yours. Awe transformed his face as he gazed at you.
Many years later you would end up making it a tradition, as you taught your daughter how to play on a Sunday after church as she watched her daddy race. You would tell her the story every time you would go to play and every time you would think about how lucky you were to have bumped into that stranger in the train station. They say that you will find your soulmate when you least expect it and after all these years - you would have to agree.

❤️🖤💚 Joyous Sixth Night of Kwanzaa from Makena and Evette! ❤️🖤💚
"Habari gani?" "Kuumba!"
Kuumba (Creativity), the principle associated with the 6th day of Kwanzaa, is one I think would resonate deeply with both Makena and Evette. According to one source, Kuumba "serves as a reminder to use the talents within to beautify and inspire the world at large, while understanding the importance of preserving the Earth for generations to come." Doesn't that sound like both of their stories in a nutshell?
Since I recently discovered that some people are unaware of this, Evette is not white! She is biracial: her mother is Black, and her dad is white. Though the doll is mostly white-passing, the character herself is frequently asked if she's Black or white, which irritates her. She's proud of her roots, so I thought she'd celebrate Kwanzaa.
NOTE: I am white, and I want to make it clear that I'm not laying any claim to Kwanzaa. Last year I thought hard about having my Makena celebrate the holiday, but I finally decided that given how much of her book is about anti-racism and celebrating her ancestry and Black history in general, it felt weird not to. I did some research on various parts of the internet to try and make sure I was doing the traditions accurately and understood the meanings of the principles. If you're Black and you think I should take this post down, please let me know and I'll do that!

today, this morning of February 4th of the year 2022, is a pivotal day to mark - only for me, personally.
i am getting LASIK eye surgery.
for a quarter of a century, i have had to use corrective lenses to see the world around me clearly. i have used glasses since i was 11 in 6th grade and then contact lenses came into the mix when i was 15 during my sophomore year of high school.
man, contact lenses were a game changer - practicality wise and of course, aesthetically. even the smallest activity of being able to lay down and roll over to faceplant it on your pillow feeling that cool, clean surface of your pillowcase against your skin without a pair of glasses poking into your facial flesh…god, it’s wonderful. i honestly thought i was going to use them for the rest of my life, which was fine by me. not gonna lie though, i did use and abuse them. i wore pairs longer than i had should (i even wore them for days at a time without taking them out), i slept with them on, when i would lose a single lens i would still wear the only lens remaining to the point where that one eye that had the lens would start compensating for my vision.
simply put, i was a typical poor college student that tried to stretch my income to the point where I compromised the health of my vision. i hit a point where my eyes started to be extremely photosensitive- i had to wear sunglasses at night because the streetlights and traffic lights were too bright and looking at them was comparable to looking straight at the sun during the day. and of course, my myopia (nearsightedness) was getting worse and worse and the diopters of my eyes were getting higher and higher, a twenty-fifth or a fiftieth of a hundredth at a time.
well, no more!
my eyes are getting a 2nd chance at a fresh start.
and the complete irony of all this! my worst fear: to lose my eyesight, to go blind. i cannot fathom the idea that i would not be able to see the outside world (see the sunlight highlighting angles and creating shadows), i would not be able to see my kids physically evolve, i would not be able to look through a camera’s viewfinder to compose my photos, i would not be able to see marvelous cups of coffee and plates of food in front of me. ALL of that is god awful.
so. in a nutshell, take care of your eyes. value your vision. and if you see someone visually impaired, it is a hard reminder of the simple things we have and should be very grateful for. oh, and gauge as to whether they need assistance or not while you’re in their vicinity.
P.S. i’m so very excited to get a new driver’s license because for the very 1st time since i’ve been able to legally drive, my card will no longer have this printed on its plastic surface: “Restrictions: B - Corrective Lenses.”
yessssss. 😌

Hiroshima by John Hersey
In a Nutshell
Hiroshima by John Hersey follows the stories of six people who survived the atomic bomb that was dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima on August 6th, 1945.  Their detailed stories begin shortly before the bomb is dropped and end a year after.
Thoughts
Unsurprisingly, this narrative was heartbreaking. Whether it’s because I’m Canadian, Gen Z, or perhaps even ignorant, I knew next to nothing about the bombing of Hiroshima. I knew it had devastating effects, and I knew it was a new kind of bomb created by the United States of America. But that’s where my knowledge ended.  Hersey’s narrative provides some contextual information; however, the emphasis is placed on the survivors and their stories. The narrative begins on the morning of August 6th, 1945. The day begins differently according to each survivor and as you read, you can’t help but wonder: if this person hadn’t left that room, would they have died? If they hadn’t gotten to the staircase at that exact moment, what would have happened to them? Each decision, each step they take, you wonder if that’s what saved them. It’s all a series of decisions, leading up to that one moment that forever changed those six people.
When I read stories or watch documentaries, I always ask the same question: What does it mean to tell this story in this world? This story wasn’t written necessarily for this world but rather, for the world that existed in 1946. So, what did it mean for Hersey to tell the story of Hiroshima in 1946, one year after the bombing of Hiroshima? As someone who lives in world with Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, it’s difficult to imagine a world where information is scarce or difficult to find. In 1946, Americans could not log on to Twitter and see photos of Hiroshima post-bomb. Today, we would. Hersey’s narrative allowed, and perhaps even forced, Americans to confront the destruction of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. By focusing only on 6 survivors, each account is incredibly detailed and forces readers to be empathetic.
Hersey’s narrative allows people to not only see the death and destruction caused by the bomb, but the ways in which the community came together. Everyone, it seems, did what they could to help others. From collecting water to distribute to those who couldn’t walk, to working in a hospital for 19 hours straight attending to the wounded, the community worked together to help as many people as they could. Rather than focus on the political reactions of Japan, Hersey focuses on the community directly effected by the bomb. This emphasis on the community is important as it allows readers to see the bombing not just as a weapon or a something that happens during a war, but something that had real, devastating effects on real people who are part of a community. Yes, perhaps the bomb was simply the consequence of a war - but it needs to be viewed as much more than that. It needs to be viewed not just through the eyes of political leaders and news anchors who were more interested in what the bomb meant on the global stage, but what the bomb meant to the people of Hiroshima. Hersey’s narrative does just that.
While the narrative seems to be quite flat and monotonous, as McDonald and McCarthy both claimed in their editorials, I argue that the tone of the narrative only adds to the story. Hersey does not insert himself into the narrative. Instead, he allows his subjects to take centre stage. The tone of the narrative – as monotonous as it might be – only cements this point. The narrative becomes more personal as each survivor is given more than adequate room for their story to be told. It is with this monotonous tone that the narrative, in my opinion, captures the humanity in each of the survivors and shows that these six people were people. They were people who lived normal, monotonous lives until one day, a bomb changed their lives.
Hersey’s narrative achieves what any good piece of journalism achieves: a new perspective. The story that he makes accessible is one that makes people rethink the ways in which the perceive war. War has devastating effects countries, but it also has devastating effects for individuals.

Casinos Bonuses 101
You've probably noticed that most online casinos commercials usually offer some sort of added bonus or FREE money to obtain to start playing there. Like most items in the world, nothing really will come free, so before you start saying this free money and after that getting upset that you've recently been scammed, I suggest you keep reading to see how this all operates.
First of all, you may ask; exactly why do online casinos also offer this "free" dollars?
It's part of their promotion differentiation strategy. In a nutshell, on the net casinos are generally "skins" of your specific software provider, and so actually behind the different operator, graphics, licensing etc beneath the bonnet there's not much big difference between let's say all Playtech powered casinos, or just about all Microgaming powered ones. Situs judi online
Therefore if they are mostly the same under the hood, there needs to be some type of difference which will convince one to play at "X" casino and not "Y". Besides the visuals, licensing, support and status, another way to pitch to prospective players is by giving them anything, in this case, a bonus.
Having set that out of the way, the next query you might ask yourself is: ALRIGHT, so Casino X offers $5, 000 free, possibly I'll sign up, take our $5, 000, play these people out and go on for you to Casino Y.
The answer this is pretty simple as well. In order to assert bonuses at at an casino online, you will usually need to generate a deposit, unless it's especially stated that you don't, but we're going get to that later.
Just before we sink into the ground beef of the different types of bonuses offered by online casinos, here are a few added terms and points you ought to know of, so you can clarify regarding a support representative just before claiming a bonus, just therefore you know where you stand and what most likely claiming.
1 . Wagering prerequisites: Most bonuses have gaming or playthrough requirements, and therefore you need to play a certain amount one which just withdraw winning from your consideration. On average wagering requirements usually are between 15 to 45 times, however pay attention to actually required to wager. In some cases it will probably be just the bonus times Back button and in others you will need to guess the bonus + your own deposit amount X periods. The latter by the way is somewhat more common.
Tumblr media
Another tidbit you ought to pay attention to with regards to wagering specifications is, that at most on the internet casinos, if you request some sort of withdrawal before you have accomplished the wagering requirements, your entire winnings to date will be useless. Not really fair, but this is certainly reality.
2 . Games played out: Make sure you read the T&Cs in such cases. Because slots games are often the most profitable games intended for online casinos, many add-ons tend to be valid only for video poker machines games. Usually scratch cards along with keno will comply with this specific rule.
In other situations, you will be allowed to play your current bonus on all game titles; however not all games may count 100% towards the playthrough requirements. For example play on pai gow poker will count 100% yet roulette will only count thirty, meaning that you will actually need to help wager over three times a lot more in order to clear the playing requirements and withdraw your own personal winnings.
3. Minimum put in requirement: In most cases, in order to promise a bonus you will be required to create a minimum deposit, which once more can vary. It's generally a bit which you will probably deposit in any case. It's usually not over fifty dollars.
Now that we're all on the same webpage and speaking the same vocabulary, it's time we had the main types of bonuses on offer at most online casinos.
1 ) A Match bonus is one of common type of bonus. For each and every $ you deposit, you will end up credited X% of everything you deposited by the casino. Therefore , if, for example , casino Unces is offering a 100% fit bonus, deposit $100 along with the casino will give you an extra $22.99 in bonus money. Because of this actually start playing within the casino with $200. Fit bonuses are almost always limited to a specific maximum bonus amount you may claim. A match extra can be a standalone bonus within a promotion (more common your way friendly online casinos) or as part of the welcome bonus
2 . Any welcome bonus is generally offered by many, if not all, online gambling houses to new players who also sign up and make their initial deposit at the casino. The particular welcome bonus is the sum of each of the possible match bonuses you could accumulate as a new participant at the casino over a certain period of time, or within your initially X deposits, or a blend the two; so if a on line casino advertises a $3000 deposit bonus, it's actually the maximum you can get with all the 1st deposit bonus, next deposit bonus, monthly reward etc, where if you first deposit the maximum amount of each match benefit, you can reach the marketed welcome bonus. If you deposit lower than needed for the maximum bonus inside each stage, you won't get to the amount advertised in the deposit bonus. So , in fact , the deposit bonus advertised is the MAXIMIUM volume you can claim in added bonus money during your first time period playing at the casino.
a few. A No deposit bonus is pretty self-explanatory. It's a bonus you receive from your online casino which will enable you to enjoy real money games without having to produce a deposit. This is a great tool to get online casinos to acquire fresh players as it lets these individuals try out the casino and never have to make a deposit. In some nations around the world it helps solve the "trust" issue casino players have got with online casinos. Several players who feel comfortable lodging and playing at one particular online casino will be wary while trying out another one they've never ever played at. Other members don't want to make a deposit with no trying out the software and video game titles so a no deposit bonus will surely help here. Some on-line casinos give no deposit bonus deals as part of their standard giving and others steer well far from such bonuses as they which they tend to attract the wrong form of players, i. e. gamers who have no intention regarding playing for real money to start with and that it just puts stress on the support team without actual outcome. I think the truth is probably somewhere at the center and that people claim free bonuses for different reasons.
Free bonuses are generally for a fairly small amount, usually $10-$15 and perhaps they are either offered to potential clients immediately by the casino or simply by websites affiliated with them. Free bonuses also have wagering needs you need to complete before you are capable of withdraw your winnings when you have been lucky.
4. Sticky/Play only bonuses are additional bonuses which you cannot withdraw out of your account. If you get blessed and win and request a new withdrawal, the bonus total you received will be taken off your winnings. Let's say an individual claimed a $50 gooey bonus and got lucky delivering your account balance to $500. Now you would like to withdraw your personal winnings and go enjoy with friends. The online gambling establishment will only allow you to withdraw 550 dollar from your players account in addition to $50, which is the gross bonus amount, will be avoid. Play only bonuses tend to be larger than match bonuses and also the wagering requirements lower.
a few. Payment method bonus: This is certainly something that was initially common from Playtech powered casinos and possesses spread to many others also over the years. Besides depositing in an online casino with your credit or debit card, there are numerous electronic options most of that provide instant fund transfers minus the associated hassle and thousands of dollars15143. Many of these alternative payment strategies, as they are widely called, offer you their services to people with out a credit check and you can transfer income from your bank account discreetly. Many are even pre-paid cards you can aquire at a kiosk. Just for using one of these alternative payment methods you potentially can attain an extra 10-15% bonus in each deposit you make in addition to some other bonus you claim. Make sure you check the cashier section prior to deciding to sign up to an online casino you have never played at because this can definitely be to your advantage.
6th. Most online casinos have a very Loyalty/VIP Club scheme where you could redeem bonuses in return for items you accumulated while enjoying. The more you play, a lot more points you earn as well as the better the point-bonus conversions rate becomes.
It is always crucial to check the specific T&Cs in the online casino you're playing or perhaps plan to play at due to the fact often you will not be allowed to pull away the bonus amount or maybe the bonus amount can be docked off your winnings.
OK, consequently I'm pretty sure you're today thinking how to take advantage of this all good, so here's the other hand of the card. Online internet casinos are extremely sensitive to extra abuse, also known as bonus whoring, by players. Just like you could possibly get expelled from a land centered casino for counting control cards for example , you can also get your participants account locked at an casinos at the first suspicion they may have of bonus abuse. You should remember that at the end of the day gambling will be entertainment and is supposed to be fun. It's not a day job and also you can't really earn money on the casino. Bonuses add to the fascinating excitements and at the end during the day, are only a marketing tool. Declare them, have fun with them, enhance your excitement but don't assume log out richer.

6th Favorite Beatles Album: A Hard Day’s Night
A Hard Day’s Night 1964, Parlophone. Producer: George Martin. Purchased CD, Approx. 1994.
IN A NUTSHELL: A Hard Day’s Night demonstrates everything about The Beatles that made them so brilliant in their early recording years. Before they ever added orchestras, psychedelia, and odd instruments, they were cranking out gem after gem. Their voices, songwriting and musicianship were beyond what was…

via Politics – FiveThirtyEight
Welcome to FiveThirtyEight’s six-part (!) Super Tuesday preview! Over the next several days, we’ll take you through our primary forecast state by state and district by district, highlighting which candidates are expected to win where — and why. In this inaugural article, I’ll take you on a tour of the three New England states that vote on Tuesday: Massachusetts, Maine and Vermont. Perhaps unsurprisingly for a candidate from the region, Sen. Bernie Sanders is expected to do well here. But let’s go a little deeper, as that’s not the whole story.
Massachusetts is the most competitive of these states. According to the FiveThirtyEight forecast,1 Sanders is a mild favorite to win, with a 3 in 5 (59 percent) chance. However, Massachusetts is Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s backyard, and we give the Bay State’s senior senator a 1 in 4 (24 percent) chance of carrying it. No other candidate’s chance of winning is in the double digits, but we can’t totally count out former Vice President Joe Biden (who has a 1 in 12, or 9 percent, chance of winning the most votes), former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg (1 in 20, or 5 percent) or former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg (1 in 30, or 3 percent), who has some Massachusetts ties of his own.
Thirty-two pledged delegates to the Democratic National Convention will be allocated based on the statewide results in Massachusetts. Currently, our model is forecasting Sanders to get 26 percent of the statewide vote on average, Warren to get 19 percent, Biden to get 15 percent, Buttigieg to get 14 percent, Bloomberg to get 13 percent, Sen. Amy Klobuchar to get 7 percent, Tom Steyer to get 3 percent and Rep. Tulsi Gabbard to get 2 percent. And as you can see in the table below, our forecasts for Massachusetts’s nine congressional districts — which award between six and eight delegates each — are pretty similar.
Sanders is favored in every Massachusetts district

Sanders is expected to win every district, and Warren is expected to be the runner-up in most of them as well. In no district do we expect these two candidates to deviate more than 2 percentage points from their statewide performances.
The district-by-district variation is pretty minor for the other candidates as well — but that doesn’t mean it’s unimportant. In fact, it matters a great deal to the delegate math, since Biden, Bloomberg and Buttigieg are all hovering right around the 15-percent threshold necessary to receive any pledged delegates.
According to the model, Biden and Bloomberg have the best chance to qualify for delegates in Massachusetts’s 7th Congressional District, which covers Boston and some of its densest suburbs. This is the most establishment district in Massachusetts, based on the 2016 primary results: Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton defeated Sanders here by more than 12 points. The 7th District is also 59 percent nonwhite, and it is the only Massachusetts district with a sizable black population, a group with which Bloomberg and especially Biden are fairly popular. In fact, we’re forecasting Biden to get 21 percent of the vote in the 7th District, which would put him ahead of Warren. Biden and Bloomberg also look like they could pick up delegates in the 1st Congressional District, a working-class district in western Massachusetts. This is the only district in Massachusetts with a college-educated population and a median household income lower than the national average.
Accordingly, Buttigieg and Klobuchar — with their white, college-educated bases — do worst in those two districts. They are more likely to excel in the tony Boston suburbs, specifically in the 4th Congressional District (Brookline, Newton, Wellesley), 5th Congressional District (Lexington, Weston, Sudbury) and 6th Congressional District (Bedford, Lynnfield, Beverly). These districts have the three highest median household incomes in Massachusetts — $84,000 a year or higher. Our model thinks Buttigieg has a shot to nab a delegate or two from these districts, but that Klobuchar is polling too low to do the same. (Not coincidentally, we are also expecting these to be among Biden’s and Bloomberg’s worst districts.)
In a nutshell, if Biden and Bloomberg don’t do well in the 1st and 7th districts, or if Buttigieg and Klobuchar don’t do well in the Boston suburbs, then it’s a bad sign for their overall prospects in Massachusetts. On the other hand, if Biden and Bloomberg do better than expected in suburbia, or if Buttigieg and Klobuchar are competitive in the 1st and 7th districts, they might be on their way to stronger-than-expected showings statewide — perhaps even enough to qualify for statewide delegates.
Up the Atlantic coast, Sanders is a solid but not overwhelming favorite in Maine — but no other candidate is particularly close to catching him. The FiveThirtyEight forecast gives Sanders a 3 in 5 (63 percent) chance of winning the Pine Tree State. The next-likeliest victor is Biden, with just a 1 in 8 (12 percent) chance. Bloomberg has a 1 in 10 (10 percent) chance, Warren has a 1 in 12 (8 percent) chance and Buttigieg has a 1 in 15 (7 percent) chance.
On average, our model forecasts that 29 percent of Maine primary voters will opt for Sanders, 16 percent each for Biden and Bloomberg, 15 percent for Warren, 14 percent for Buttigieg, 5 percent for Klobuchar and 2 percent each for Steyer and Gabbard.2 But the results by congressional district are arguably even more important: In fact, Maine’s 1st Congressional District is worth more pledged delegates (nine) than the state alone (eight) is! And the 2nd District is worth almost as many — seven. Here’s what our forecast says about those:
Sanders is strong everywhere in Maine

District Sanders Biden Bloomberg Warren Buttigieg Klobuchar ME-01 29% 15% 15% 15% 16% 5% ME-02 29 18 17 14 13 4 State 29 16 16 15 14 5
While both are equally monochromatic (specifically, they are more than 93 percent white), there is a stark cultural and class divide between Maine’s two congressional districts. The coastal 1st District is above the national average in terms of income and educational attainment and voted for Clinton by 15 points in 2016. Meanwhile, the interior 2nd District has seen its population and economy contract due to the decline of traditional industries such as forestry and agriculture. It is the epitome of the type of blue-collar region that deserted Democrats in 2016, going from supporting former President Barack Obama by 9 percentage points to supporting President Trump by 10.
Unsurprisingly given how their support breaks down by class, Warren, Klobuchar and especially Buttigieg figure to do better in the 1st District, while Bloomberg and especially Biden look stronger in the 2nd District. But the differences are quite small and wouldn’t normally be worth worrying about — except for the fact that, once again, several candidates are right on the cusp of 15 percent in all three jurisdictions. Even small over- or underperformances by Biden, Bloomberg, Buttigieg or Warren in Maine could affect whether they get any pledged delegates out of the state. But let’s keep this in perspective: In the grand scheme of Super Tuesday, Maine doesn’t award very many pledged delegates (24 in total).
Finally, the smallest state (with only one congressional district) to vote on Super Tuesday is Vermont. Don’t overthink this one; Sanders is expected to dominate his home state so thoroughly that any regional differences (and there were few in 2016) are unimportant. According to the FiveThirtyEight forecast, Sanders’s odds of winning are greater than 99 in 100 (99 percent). The only question is whether anyone else gets above 15 percent. Our model currently forecasts Sanders to get 57 percent of the vote, Buttigieg 11 percent, Warren 9 percent, Bloomberg 8 percent, Biden 7 percent, Klobuchar 5 percent and Gabbard and Steyer 1 percent each. If those results come exactly true, Sanders would win every single one of Vermont’s 16 pledged delegates.
