Andy Hutchins: Nothing clicked for me with Billie Eilish until "Bad Guy." I understood the appeal intellectually, because it has sometimes been my wheelhouse: "Prodigy-cast makes off-kilter pop music from a perspective with more than a little precociousness and possibly a feminine spin that serves to disrupt rather than reify" is my jam for months at a time, sometimes. But some combination of prodigy and precociousness sometimes striking me as preciousness -- something that I've occasionally found issue with in the work of Sky Ferreira and Solange and Lorde and Cher Lloyd and fka twigs and Haim and Kacey Musgraves and Lana Del Rey and so many women who have occupied this same treacherous lane where deviating from delivering what is expected from a young woman making pop music can offend the sensibilities (or engage the biases) of even someone who has strained to stave off the stupidity of dismissing music made by young women and largely intended for young women -- and what I read as a deliberately dark and standoffish aesthetic put me off of Eilish, whose stuff just didn't compel me. Everything clicks for me with Billie Eilish now that I've heard "Bad Guy," which I reckon is pathetic on my part, because so much of the DNA of "Bad Guy" is in other work she's done that the things that differentiate it as The Hit and The Breakthrough come down to tempo and a kooky synth run in the hook that every third YouTube commenter thinks is stolen from Plants vs. Zombies. But "Bad Guy" is also an unassailable pop song and has come along at a time when bulletproof ones are not occupying the charts -- the closest competition in the current top 40 by my sight is, like, a Katy Perry song whose verses let down its magnificent hook, a bunch of drowsy-to-dire Khalid and Halsey tunes, a C- effort from Taylor Swift, and a microwaved Lizzo track that I've known of for a while and don't consider her best stuff -- and so it stands out even more from the pop metagame than the larger Eilish oeuvre does from a host of less realized tunes. And I'm a sucker for an unassailable pop song, especially one with a vocal initially delivered so low that it demands attention to the dial in the car but that is by turns brightly funny ("...duh!") and world-weary and campy to the hilt (the titular phrase being stretched to a titanium crocodile's rasp), a relentless bass line that sounds like a monster's heartbeat echoing in a cave, and lyrics that constitute a semi-sincere embrace of some Lolita tropes and a more powerful sarcastic destruction of them while somehow also being fully ready for Instagram captions and Twitter display names and ... well, no one's on Tumblr anymore. But that's hardly Billie's fault, and I'm not docking points for only barely failing to raise the dead with a virtuosic song that makes me this glad to be alive. [10]

Alfred Soto: There's a reason this song has become the breakout hit besides its insidious keyboard hook: Billie Eilish sings not mumbles the gender bending hook. Otherwise a ditty that the top 40 could use more of; its quietness is a tonic. [8]

Joshua Copperman: Sounds great, looks great (if possibly plagarized), memes great. The deadpan anti-sexuality of "might-seduce-your-dad type" is "Guys My Age" done right. The delivery of "my soul, so cynical" like even that is too earnest of a statement. The only weak part is the ending switch-up. But you knew all that already. Duh. Besides the cries of "industry plant!" there's also the ongoing sense that Eilish is a music writers' idea of what a 17-year-old Tumblr-born pop star would sound like. And sure, she's a young music writers' dream; I have a byline at Billboard because of her. But also, it's genuinely smart music that is mostly set to age well, even if it's hard to tell if it m a t t e r s. Who knows what 17-year-olds of any predilection towards seducing dads are actually listening to; I'm 21 and finding that out is only getting more difficult, if maybe not more necessary. If teens still control popular culture, if anyone does, who knows if this really does reflect them, or if its bottomless angst is mocked like Limp Bizkit? Is "Bad Guy" just "Heathens" for the late-2010s? Does this really represent the next generation? And which next generation; the shit-talking saviors, or the ones just like their parents and the radicalized alt-right kids? There's no easy answer to any of these, no "duh" to shrug them off. But there is Eilish and co. applying the daily grind of apocalyptic dread to smaller-scale topics. Processing death on "Bury a Friend," processing one's own body image on "idontwannabeyouanymore," processing changing gender roles here. Finding your place in 2019 is a lot for anyone. No one is getting it right. What Eilish does instead is turn that uncertainty to playfulness, confidently existing within the mess instead of trying to find her spot. [8]

Leah Isobel: I was on Tumblr in 2011, so "might seduce your dad type" doesn't feel as provocative as she might intend. (Also, Halsey did the exact same thing.) Besides, pop is a space for fantasy and role-playing, and she's not the first 16-year old bad girl to make adults freak out a little. What gets me is that the song itself is a brilliant production piece in search of an equally compelling melody; the biggest hooks here are an audible eye-roll and a Tim Burton rip. I love the idea of Billie as a goth-teen-pop star, and the choice to swerve into a spooky outro instead of a more traditional structure is genuinely a lot of fun, but this all feels like so much posturing -- normal for a teenager, but not that compelling to listen to on its own. [6]

Katherine St Asaph: If Billie Eilish is the Gen Z Fiona Apple, which I've heard from about three separate people even before the Discourse started, then "Bad Guy" is her "Criminal," down to it being creep flypaper. Everyone quotes that one dad line a bit too eagerly, like they're subconsciously thinking that if they have the pithiest take they just might get to be the dad. (It isn't even the most suggestive line.) There's a strong case for the dad being the bad guy, if only because he's, well, the guy. But "Bad Guy" lives in the world of teenage politics, where the guys just are and the girls get their badness thrust upon them, and their choices are to shrink away or play along. Duh. ("Bad Guy" : "duh" :: "Your Love Is My Drug" : "I like your beard.") But all this is pretty serious analysis for a fundamentally trolly song: half-mumbling the melody to a beat I'm pretty sure I made in a high school to go with a video project; rhyming bad/mad/sad/dad like a Mavis Beacon keyboarding tutorial (or whatever the kids have now; maybe they're just born typing); crooning an exceedingly Lana Del Rey-ish "I'm only good at being bad" then immediately cutting that crap for a bassy, fuck-off breakdown; filling only about 60% of the song with, like, song. [6]

Joshua Minsoo Kim: Not the most impressive or cohesive Billie Eilish song, but it is the one most likely to remind you of how fun her music can be (that she included the Invisalign skit in the video helps). The coda is fine, but the best reversal is found elsewhere: the nonchalant cries of duh followed by a cartoonish synth melody, underlining just how playful the song's darker elements are. [6]

Josh Langhoff: Eilish sometimes sounds like the Cardigans if they only did Black Sabbath covers, "evil" squeezed between an extra set of scare quotes, and sometimes she's Nellie McKay on downers, ennui shaped like wit but without the laughs. Sometimes she's good and sometimes she sings ballads. And somehow that combination produced "Bad Guy," the elusive Somehow Perfect Pop Song That Sounds Like Nothing Else On The Radio. I can't say I love it, but all her murmuring and posturing makes Top 40 radio seem, after too many years, like a playground of endless possibility. What'd we do to deserve this and "Old Town Road"? [8]

Jessica Doyle: Yes. Some are red, and some are blue. Some are old, and some are new. Some are sad, and some are glad, and some are very, very bad. Why are they sad and glad and bad? I do not know. Go ask why that menacing bass and Eilish's whisper didn't deserve better lyrics. [4]

Tobi Tella: Billie Eilish's artistic direction and style of music makes it seem almost impossible for her to make a legitimate banger, but this fits in perfectly with the rest of her album tone-wise and also completely slaps. The simplicity of the production, literally created in a bedroom just adds to the perfect low-key vibe. The lyrics do make Billie sound a little like a teenager who will cringe reading them in 10 years, but as an 18 year old, sometimes doing stupid stuff you know is destructive and immature is FUN, and this completely captures that feeling. Will Adams: I love love love the idea of this shifty, close mic'd oddball dancepop song being as big of a mainstream hit as it is, even if it's one of the more slight offerings from the album. Extra point for the coda, where Billie drops the coy and reminds you how quick she is to put her foot on your neck. [7]

Pedro João Santos: The coda lamentably inverts the light heart of "Bad Guy": the colourful, whispered titillation conjugated with what's left unsaid, a sort of puerile pleasure dutifully translated by the Theremin-esque synths; not the heady, overlong consummation that it unfolds onto by the end. I must say I'm exhilarated that someone knew how to ape "Las de La Intuición" nearly 15 years on, although startled by the fact that it was Billie Eilish the one to do it. [7]

Scott Mildenhall: Done well, it's enjoyable to hear a musician having such fun, but especially so when one unexpected element of a song comes in to underline just how much fun they're having. In this case, it's the gloopy searchlight noise, playing out like the theme tune to a 1970s cop show set in space, in a way that cannot be anything but gleefully goofy. Such bold and playful invention is something pop music would suffer without. Extra points for the consideration to leave a gap before the outro so that radio stations can cut it out. [8]

Iris Xie: I still think this song should've been cut off at the 2:14 mark, because it said everything it needed to say. [5]

Katie Gill: That purposefully obnoxious "duh" sums up what Eilish wants to say more than the rest of the song combined (and is currently in the running for my favorite 2 seconds of 2019 pop music). This image of her as the bad guy isn't serious. It's bratty and playful, more her creating something she can have fun with instead of taking herself seriously. Unfortunately, that something interesting here is buried in a three minute piece that somehow manages to be three completely different songs which never actually coheres to a single whole. [6]

I did wind up making some stuff for the fakemon dex. Here are some of my favorite creations thus far. Please note: none of them have names yet. I am not great at naming, so expect that to take a while. Also, some may be actual descriptions, while others will just be the general explanation of what it is.

Grass/Psychic Mushroom. Basically, it’s designed to be a tank, but the hidden ability basically invokes reverse battling rules, inverting the type chart. This thing was designed to be the savior of mono-type Grass teams, now that is has 7 super-effective matchups on Giga Drain alone, and all those common weaknesses? Now it’s gone. Is it a move a crazy person would make? Yes. That is why I’m here.

Rock/Ghost Princess, based off of a pawn piece. “An ancient stone statue carved to channel spirits. These statues were placed as a means of defense, protecting the lands they oversee. The spirits were believed to be those who would volunteer service even after death. Monarchs would show favor to such souls with a treasured stone from their personal collection.”

Rock/Ghost Queen, based off of a queen piece. Evolves with King’s Rock. “A statue depicting the image of a monarch, carved after the monarch’s passing. The statue is set with favored stones, which are believed to channel the monarch’s spirit. The spirit of the monarch is charged with continued defense of their realm, commanding the spirits of those they led in life.”

Poison/Psychic Frog. Really, this is mostly because I gave it a new ability, Aquarian, that works like Steelworker but for Water attacks. The stat spread I gave it would allow it to run Modest and outpace Timid Lele (barring Scarf), with enough offensive presence to OHKO Lando-T and the Tapu (barring Fini probably), and 2HKO Ferrothorn with Hidden Power Fire, and Toxapex with Psyshock. This is probably one of the more spiteful things I’ve made. I’m thrilled with it.

Fire/Ice Mist Spirit. A part of what I want to do is cover a lot of unused type combinations. Fire/Ice was, by far, the hardest one to conceptualize. Thankfully, I realized that I had an ice-based area, and wound up creating a hot springs area, and so this spirit of heat and cold came to be. I gave it a unique ability that gives it immunity to Normal and Fighting attacks, as if it were Ghost type. This mildly helps its overall weaknesses profile.

Ice/Electric bunny. Listen, I really wanted a bunny thing, and having an arctic bunny that gets part electric because of static fur is what I have decided on. And it will be cute without being furry-bait, mark my words!

Grass/Fire/Water Songbirds. I’d want to introduce new “Song” moves, that are fairly low BP, but have high effect rates. These would be early-game captures, designed to complement the starters. Another unique ability is shared between all three, Birdsong, which doubles effect rates of Song moves.

Anyone who thought Dunplenty wasn’t getting in is a fool. Of course it’s real. Dragon/Fairy, ouroboros theme, yes it is made from having three Dunsparce in the party and leveling one of them up why do you ask?

And of course my Grass-type plant legends that I think I’ve talked about before. If not, I can always talk about them again but it would take too long here.

Students of classical feng shui learn the four main types of houses during the first few days of teaching. These types of houses are described in broad outline. Two of the four are good for health and relationships and two are not. Two of the four support financial luck and the other two are not. But putting too much emphasis on these four categories of house types is like judging a book by its cover or a painting by its frame.

In the 20th century, these four types of house received catchy descriptions, translated from more non-literal Chinese terms, where we have one type of house that is now labeled “good for people / good for the money ” (aka Wang Shan Wang Shui). The exact opposite type of house is called “Inverted,” as the reverse of the best house type. Then there are the two types of mixed houses, one being considered “good for people / bad for money (Double Sitting) and the other“ good for money / bad for people ”( Double sided.)

In reality, we know that life is more complicated, and yet we all know someone who is rich, but unhealthy or rich but very unhappy. We also know people who are strong physically and mentally, with loving family members and close friendships, but perhaps in chronic financial difficulty.

It is therefore easy to assume that these four major types of houses exert their influence on the occupants to create these real gaps. By studying Xuan Kong Fei Xing, there are actually 144 different types of houses, but these 144 “flying star cards” can all be grouped into the four main house types. These types of houses are determined based on when a house was built and the direction it sits or faces, so it’s not like seeing a house with certain physical characteristics that would be so obvious.

One of the most frustrating things I run into frequently is a potential client who wants me to help find a home and they’ve heard of this type of ‘good for people / good for people’ house. money ‘and they just want to live in that type of house and no one anymore. This is a very short-sighted way to go looking for a home, because what is considered good Feng Shui overall is based on many criteria which are not determined solely by the orientation of the house. house or year of construction. In fact, there are so many instances where the layout of a floor plan is flawed that it undermines or seriously exceeds the nature of the so-called best type of home of these four broad categories.

For example, I had a client whose house was considered “Wang Shan Wang Shui ” (good for people / good for the money type of house.) Meanwhile, the actual floor plan showed the bedrooms, entryway, and home office to be in the worst parts of the house. To go back a bit, you have to understand that no house on the planet has all of the intrinsically positive zones. On average, there are about four of the eight basic directional areas in any structure that are rated as better or worse than the others. Here’s a specific example: For a house built in 1985 and facing south between 160 and 170 degrees, the best locations (in the flying star map) will be in the northwest, north, northeast, and east sectors. The other directions (west, southwest, southeast and south) are not so inherently positive at present for this particular type of house.

So at this point we haven’t even studied the floor plan. We’re just speculating on the most positive influences for this type of house, being one of the 144 flying star charts in total to consider.

So with this house in mind that was supposed to be so good, this client had perpetual financial problems, marital problems, problems with his children, legal problems, kidney problems for husband and wife, as well as a serious burglary where they lost valuables. totaling $ 100,000.00. So I wouldn’t call it a ‘good for the people / good for the money’ house. On the other hand, I have a client who enjoys world fame as an actor in television and film and yet he lives in a “Inverted” type house, which is supposed to be “”bad for people and bad for money.“He has a happy family life and is doing quite well in his career spanning more than 30 years.

However, they are no longer the type of house Wang Shan Wang Shui, reversed , double seated or double sided as they were originally. In each 20-year era, there are sixteen different house types based on orientation alone, and then they’re grouped into the four main house types. However, after 1964, these period 5 houses ceased to be defined by these definitions (once we entered period 6).

In period 8, which runs from 2004 to 2023, we have houses built during this period that are correctly classified as one of the four types of houses, but these terms will end in 2024 when the period 9 will begin. At that time, only houses in period 9 will be considered one of the four main types of houses. Houses from all other periods are exempt. We have 9 periods which each last 20 years. This means that most houses are no longer in the four main house types, although it looks like a category that all of them would fall into.

I was one of a large group of practitioners who had not initially learned all the ramifications of these types of houses. Old habits die hard and it may be a long time before the teachings are standardized to the point where every classical school or individual teacher will have this more nuanced and technically correct understanding of the four main types of houses, of how long they last. and their overall influence.

Until then, many people miss out on buying or renting big houses because they have a kind of Feng Shui-tunnel vision, as if the house called “Wang Shan Wang Shui” is the pinnacle of all types of homes to look for. outside. Not so. Maybe it is as if a person feels that they can only function and be happy in one city in the world. We know this may not be true, but this is just one of many examples where people judge properties based on too little information.

A Triangle Patterns is formed when price of a stock becomes more and more compressed over time. Here two converging line can be drawn joining the highs and lows. Triangle may be of three types as describe below:

Symmetric triangle: Here if we connect highs we get a descending trend line and if we join lows we get an ascending trend line and both the line converges to form a symmetric triangle.

For all the triangles if breakout happens from the 2/3 area of the triangle then it has been observed that the breakout becomes effective. During formation of the triangle pattern during initial big move volume remains high, then during consolidation volume also reduce and final breakout happens with big move associated with burst in volume.

Pennant

A pennant is a continuation pattern which is formed after a big move called flagpole. After the up move there is consolidation containing the price with in two converging lines and pennant is formed. After the price breaks out from the pennant it moves again sharply.

Trading volume during the flagpole is high and volume during pennant formation dries up and finally during breakout again volume is very high.

This is a smaller version of triangle. Here unlike triangle swing high and lows are not clearly visible and it appear as a small triangle during the consolidation period.

Bullish Flag pattern is a continuation pattern which is formed after an up move called flag pole. Then price consolidate between two parallel lines having downward slope.

Once breakout happens upper line is broken with big move with big volume and price again continues to move higher. Here volume dries up during consolidation and again increase during breakout.

We were right with our IOTA prediction. There’s an obvious IOTA lift off.

Well, many people believe in IOTA given the more than 10X spike in the last 2 months. NEM is also picking up while we are seeing a slowdown in LTC, DASH and Monero.

After yesterday, we can say we were on the right side of the trade as prices ended up rallying. In fact by close, NEM highs had tested $1.12. That’s about $0.32 from where we had placed our buy stops. It was at our resistance if you remember well.

I will be general today. First, following that spike, we shall remain calm and stay humble in our “mini victory”. Long term trend buyers are late, perhaps buying in the last stage, the 4th wave of the Elliot wave.

Since I don’t know what the future prices are, we shall base our swings here on the 4HR chart. The thing is, the 20 period MA has is still reliable and positive sloping meaning buy momentum is still high.

However, we got a little problem with our stochastics. Bears are jumping in. Remember just before December 19 close we had this bearish engulfing candlestick preceded by that inverted hammer which by the way closed above the upper BB resulting in a double bear reversal pattern.

In my opinion, NEM prices could easily retrace back to support at $0.80. Once a buy signal prints at the oversold territory, that is when I might end up buying depending on the then prevailing set up.

As one can see, the company’s free cash flow has followed a moderate upward trend over the past decade growing at an average rate of 5.22%. In order to determine Omnicom’s intrinsic value, an estimate must be made of its potential future free cash flows. To build this estimate, there is an array of potential outcomes for future free cash flows in the graph below.

Furthermore, the company may return around 11% at the current price if the estimated free cash flows are achieved. Now, let’s discuss how and why these estimated free cash flows could be achieved.

The Competitive Advantage of Omnicom Group Inc.

Omnicom Group Inc. has various competitive advantages outlined below.

Oligopoly Status. Omnicom is one of the largest advertising agencies in the world and operates in a market which is dominated by the ‘Big 5’ which also includes WPP, Publicis, Interpublic, and Dentsu. Collectively, they control around 30% of the global advertising agency market which has historically been one of the most stable oligopolies in existence. This stability can be seen in the chart below which outlines the market share of combined total billings for the 3 largest advertising agencies between 2004-2014.

Examples include DDB, a subsidiary of Omnicom, which reported retention rates of between 98-99% between 2001-2003. Another advertising agency, Grey, reported a retention rate of 95% in 2014. While the large advertising agencies don’t regularly report, retention rates analysts have calculated, based upon the figures which are occasionally published, that the industry average retention rate ranges from a conservative estimate of 90% to a more realistic rate of 95%. The reason why these rates are so high is that rival firms almost never challenge one another for market share and only pitch for business once a customer puts a contract “in the review.” How often do customers put a contract “in review?” The answer is, not very often. The chart below shows the contract period for a number of Omnicom’s customers.

As you can see, Omnicom’s clients do not switch to competing firms very often, and this is true throughout the industry as a whole. This means that investors can make reasonable projections about future revenues and earnings and be confident that the firm will be able to make money regardless of the economic environment.

Pricing power with customers. Omnicom, along with the other large advertising agencies, possesses strong pricing power over its customers. Firstly, clients are primarily interested in quality over cost. This means they are unlikely to haggle with advertising agency giants due to the value they add to their brands and products. Secondly, it is easier for the ‘Big 5’ to protect their pricing by announcing their intention not to accept weaker rates of payment. It is much harder for their clients who are in many different sectors and industries to coordinate and insist on better terms. This pricing power allows Omnicom to outperform the Global Advertising Agency Industry on a number of key metrics outlined below.

Omnicom Group Inc.’s Risks

Now that Omnicom Group Inc’s competitive advantages have been considered, let’s look at some of the risk factors that could impair my assumptions of investment return.

While Omnicom and other advertising agencies possess large moats, their business is somewhat cyclical as their revenues and earnings are driven by the advertising budgets of their clients. In the event of a recession, Omnicom’s earnings would likely be impacted by a contraction in their client’s advertising budgets as advertising spending rates tend to track GDP growth. There is a real risk that companies will decide to contract directly with Google and Facebook thus rendering the traditional advertising agencies obsolete.

Omnicom also faces another type of risk associated with disintermediation if its clients decide to ‘in-house’ certain activities related to digital advertising campaigns. These campaigns have historically generated the most dollars of revenue for advertising agencies per dollar going to the media company which hosts the adverts. Historically, the advertising agencies could earn 2-3 times more revenue from the same client spending if it went on digital advertising rather than TV. If Omnicom’s clients decide to move the labor-intensive work associated with digital advertising ‘in-house,’ this could have a negative impact on the company’s future revenues and earnings.

Opportunity Costs

Whenever an investment is considered, one must compare it to any alternatives to weigh up the opportunity cost. At present, 10-year treasuries are yielding 2.78%, if we take inflation into account, the real return is likely to be closer to 1%. The S&P 500 Index is currently trading at a Shiller P/E of x31.6 which is 88.1% higher than the historical mean of x16.8. Assuming reversion to the mean occurs, the implied future annual return is likely to be -2.6%. Omnicom, therefore, appears to offer a much better return for investors at present, but other individual stocks may be found which offer a similar return relative to the risk profile.

Macro Factors

Investors must consider macroeconomic factors that may impact economic and market performance as this could influence investment returns. At present, the S&P is priced at a Shiller P/E of x31.6, this is 88.1% higher than the historical average of 16.8 suggesting markets are at elevated levels. U.S. unemployment figures are at a 30-year low suggesting that the current business cycle is nearing its peak. U.S. private debt/GDP currently stands at 199.6% and is at its highest point since 2009 when the last financial crisis prompted private sector deleveraging.

Summary

Omnicom is currently the subject of pronounced pessimism from the market due to the increasing competitive pressure which Google and Facebook are placing upon the advertising agency industry. The threat of creative destruction is not without merit, given the increased risk of disintermediation which could see the old oligopoly of the traditional advertising agencies supplanted by the new tech duopoly.

There are, however, reasons to believe that this may not be as likely as the market is assuming. Companies do have an incentive to outsource the creation and purchasing of advertising to agencies such as Omnicom since the latter has the talent, expertise, and scale advantages drawn from its entire client roster to implement a more effective advertising campaign. Thus, clients can essentially aggregate their buying power and get better deals on advertising space.

Omnicom’s clients also need more than just advertising; they require public relations work, brand consultancy, direct & event marketing, and many other services which often must be coordinated. Omnicom possesses the knowledge, experience, and capability to deliver the kind of comprehensive campaign that its clients are unable to do on their own. Regarding management’s capability and shareholder friendliness, Omnicom has a great track record. Over the past ten years, the firm has achieved an average return on invested capital of 15% and an FCF/Sales of 10.58%. Omnicom has also increased its dividends for the past ten years at an annualized rate of around 16% and reduced its share count through buybacks over that period at an annualized rate of 3.25%.
