You do not know them personally enough to inspect their private lifestyle in such a way, and even if you did that behavior still isn't warranted. Just because celebrities are more known to the public, doesn't negate the fact that they are people with feelings and aspects of their lives that they might prefer to keep quiet about. Sexuality, in general, is an intimate thing, that everyone experiences and expresses differently, and having random strangers deny or question their queerness does more harm than good. Nick Nelson's Reluctant Yeah

It's well established that Charlie uses a blanket "it's fine" during many interactions in order to downplay troubling moments, mollify and comfort others, or conceal inner turmoil.

Nick, on the other hand, does the reluctant "yeah."

To confirm something he doesn't like, even if he's the one saying it.

To get a negative interaction to stop.

To try to convince himself (or Charlie) of something he doesn't believe.

To appease the crowd, even when he doesn't want to.

To make someone else happy, even if it's detrimental to him.

To agree, despite no real inner resolution.

To reassure, even when he's not okay.

To disguise his real stressors (and avoid stressing others).

To mask his regret.

Nick is a people pleaser, and this is how he does it when, deep down, he doesn't feel comfortable or in total agreement with the situation. Thankfully, we see a little less of this in S2 than S1. Let's hope for even less in S3. You can do it Nick!

Oh I feel like that is the line from the third season. Why are we like this is probably more of a running joke than a leitmotiv, but Nick actually giving an answer to that question in that precise moment is like the turning point when their schoolboy crush becomes something much more adult.

Why are we like this... because we are. Because you are you and I am me, with all the messy and silly and complicated things that we both are, and we are in love.

Two people, two simple humans who randomly cross each other's orbits in the ridiculously small portion of time and space we occupy and decide that yes, this is it, this is one of the reasons why I'm here.

In the Nick & Charlie novella, Charlie often mentions that he knows his relationship with Nick is not normal, because they care about each other much more than any regular teenager should care about their first love. I think that fits the overarching storyline of them staying together well into adulthood and beyond and it also fits Charlie's mental state in that particular moment, but I like that Nick's simple answer is the path forward for them. Sometimes there's no need to seek a be-all and end-all answer. Sometimes it is as simple as we are here, and we love.

my take on the romeo + juliet situation is that this is a huge example of the problems that arise with stunt casting* on broadway. in live theater you cannot guarantee your main cast 100% of the time and if you are not prepared to carry out your production without them, that is a huge problem and failure on behalf of the directors and producers. it shows lack of professionalism and too heavy of reliance on your main cast, which is not fair when they have to take time off for illness or personal reasons and not fair to the underprepared understudy who now have to face of wrath of fans.

what i wrote to my friends while watching heartstopper s2 because i feel like some people need a reminder:

“this WHOLE season is nick’s coming out storyline and in every episode from multiple characters MUTLIPLE TIMES he is reminded that he is under no obligation to come out to anyone and that it is HIS decision to make WHEN he wants to and HE gets to decide WHO to tell and there are no expectations of when or how he comes out and there’s not any pressure coming from anyone for him to do it before he’s ready. So, for kit connor to be portraying this character and acting this storyline after what was done to him by the FANS OF THE FUCKING SHOW is genuinely heartbreaking and i really hope that getting to film this was healing in some way instead of just a reminder of the graciousness that he was not afforded because he deserved so so much better than what he got. I have gotten emotional several times at scenes where nick is reassured that there’s no pressure for him to come out explicitly because that is the opposite of the way the actor was treated.”
