no matter how other people around town glanced her way, cleo would never grow used to media. her case had not attracted attention since olivia—the wheelchair girl—and with her trip to the mainland and her over-religious parents, the word was out. cleo stopped being cleo emerson and earned nicknames such as miracle girl, holy, saint, and her preferred—phony. where the believers were crowding her lawn with religious figures and holy offerings, the non-believers had managed to punch holes into her tires and egg her front door, some were even daring enough to bring her parents' opinions into the matter as if it made any difference when they were dead.

cleo watched cautiously when the brunette took a seat next to her, trying to gauge whether she felt too terrified to be carried away with the wind, to the violent motion of the waves against the rocks below them, or if her curiosity and need for a story was so great that the precipice didn't really bother her. once ayda continued, though, cleo opted for the second. "wow, the tribune? and they sent you to nowhere, maine, to talk to me? fuck, you must have picked the short end of the stick." cleo felt sorry for her. deeply, so. maybe it was just her, but if she was a journalist, maybe this was not what she wanted to write about.

or maybe she was one of those sensationalist journalists who did anything for a scoop like that. whatever the case, cleo didn't feel sufficiently energetic to push ayda away, and maybe she felt a little bit too lonely, even if she hated the fact that her powers were something she had been reduced to. "i could say no, but maybe you're in luck because you're pretty and seem like this is definitely not where you're supposed to be." the blonde shrugged and took in a deep drag, her fingertips absentmindedly brushing over the bandages around her wrist. "have at it, ayda from the tribune. what do you want to know?"

AhhhhHhh! THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE!! 😭

I never thought this blog would become so expansive, or that I would have such wonderful people to celebrate this milestone with!

I still owe you all a rutting fic for this blog's 100 follower milestone, and I definitely want to retroactively do something for 200 followers. Things are hectic right now, but don't think I have forgotten!

I am entertaining the idea of opening headcanon requests as a way of thanking all of you. I have one that has been sitting in my drafts for a hot minute (don't think I've forgotten you, dear anon!), but the catch would be that I'd only be able to write about one or two headcanon posts each week.
