I need to know what your headcanons are on modern dating of Billy, Stu and or Randy 😊💕
Oooh nice ♡ (I hate modern dating sm and will be single for life before doing dating culture. lol I was designed for dramatic darkest soul proclaimtions, letters of yearning and long drawn courting that last a season before even dating and even dating we're not dating long if I know ur it. I wasn't designed for 'what's ur snap' and was made to send Polaroid nudes in letters with dried flowers and my perfume and...Other things not 'showering? without me?' text... Lmfao but I'll try! 😅💖)
Modern 2025 Dating HC's for Scream Guys
Characters: Randy Meeks, Stu Macher, Billy Loomis
TW: Sex Mentioned, Modern Sexism/Discourse.
Randy Meeks
♡ He's sadly a Reddit user but not in an incel 'niceguysforum' way but in a Dad jokes and we arguing with a 15 year old with a big titty anime pfp on a thread over the symbolism in Hellraiser kind of way.
♡ May also be into the Softmaledom and GFD groups on there and gets ideas from it (He gives nerdy but sweet kinky boy once yall are doing it ya know he does)
♡ Met in Fandom Spaces or at a Horror Con (Dare I say...He'd also be into anime too? 👀 If he was it would be Monsters or Hellsing or anything by Junji I'm JS.)
♡ Would send you horror movie merch/buy it and it arrives on your doorstep. Expect matching couple merch.
♡ Sends you voice notes randomly of "Oh my God, babe. These freaking assholes don't understand that The Babadook was a fucking metaphor-" and it's embarrassingly long before he tries to delete and when that fails he acts like he was talking to himself and accidentally pressed record
♡ Constantly finds new horror movies to watch even cheap ones and FT you to watch it with him till you fall asleep
♡ Definitely FT nightly if you're long distance till one of you falls asleep
♡ Would have a YT channel, Tiktok channel or Podcast on Horror Movies or Crime
♡ Would call you something cringe but meme like pookie bear ironically (and unironically) also calls you 'kitten' as a joke because you both think it's funny acting like a discord Daddy and his kitten girl for the disgusted reactions
♡ Has you both hugging as his pfp and rubs it in other nerdy redflag incels faces like 'Oh no one loves you? 🥺 Damn, someone does me-' in internet arguments when he gets told 'She wont let you hit bro' when defending someone
♡ Became a damn germaphobe after Covid and makes you put your hands out to put sanitizer on. Flinches still when someone coughs w/o covering their mouth cause he had it and doesn't ever want it again
♡ Plays Outlast with you and you both are screaming and laughing hard all night long over the headset
Stu Macher
♡ Stu Macher too bad you died in 96; you would've thrived online
♡ Met you on an app like Tinder, Insta or Snapchat (Or asked for it)
♡ FT you doing random shit in silence + random dumbass noises to fill the silence like boy why tf you fting me while boiling water???
♡ Is so much harder to murder now so either he won't do it but be oddly fascinated by it or he will and is just extra careful
♡ Is such a troll with a keyboard. Only refers to women as bruh, bro, bby, baddie, bih, bop. Uses terms like fine shyt to describe you. Just over does '*xyz* Ahh', 'The huzz are watching', 'What the Sigma??', 'She mid' in comment sections just because he likes attention and knows ppl will be like 'sybau'...He'll even do it to you as his S/O just to rile you up.
♡ Giant troll even when dating. He sees a prank on TikTok? He's doing it and might record your reaction too
Will send risky texts all day everyday. You've seen his dick at every angle. You've seen every surface from tailbone to tip. He always asks for pics in return and constantly pushes his luck wanting your face in them or video
♡ Uses emojis and reaction gifs
♡ Texts you good morning and it's Russian Roulette...Sweet or Surprise Morning Wood?
♡ Netflix and Chill Regularly
♡ Takes Selfies to send 24/7. He just messaged himself eating a McChicken to you...Probably some nasty sex joke in there somewhere somehow istg
♡ Likes when you borrow his clothes and take selfies to send to him. Is like '😍' at you in his oversized sweater for bed
♡ Surprises you with shit he saw on pornhub/horny side of X and sometimes its fun and other times you're like 'Hey, no. Nuh uh I don't bend like that.'
♡ Can be sweet in a funny way using heart eyed reaction images to ur selfies or 'Oh mmyyy Shaylaaaa! 😭💘😫' to something he finds cute
♡ Will text you at 1am 'you up?' or 'I'm bored :(' and if you answer and he lives close he will be at your door with food
♡ Would think all women are either bops/thots, femcels or baddies (srry I fear misogyny is somehow worse/more open now like wtf happened)
♡ Claims Human Centipede or Tusk was hilarious and he might actually think that but he could also be lying bc he knows it will get a reaction from you
♡ Constant reaction pics to what you say like he's on X comment section
♡ Is rich enough he'll get those heartbeat rings/bracelets then forgets to wear it with you
Billy Loomis
♡ This mfer is a pretty boy edgelord incel (Travesty rlly) I am sorry; sad but true
♡ Still kills or has fantasy of it but would have to be way sneakier
♡ Met you organically because he doesn't like apps and claims it and hookup culture have destroyed society (...He says as he's scrolling X/Twitter)
♡ Will randomly send you sad qoutes and ur like 'oh god are you okay???' thinking he's in danger and he acts like he accidentally sent it
♡ If you're a girl; he constantly claims you're 'not like other girls' madonna whore complex kicks his ass everytime
♡ Will get petty if you miss his text or don't respond right away
♡ Talks to you about movies but is like 'Sorry...You probably never heard of it' then quizzes you bc he refuses to believe you *understand* an artistic *masterpiece* like Clockwork Orange (Sarcasm on my part)
♡ Would either listen to 90's grunge, Indie Rock or like $uicideboy$ type stuff
♡ Never sends you a selfie of himself smiling its always him looking tired or mad or blurry
♡ FT you at the worst angle ever like a 50 yr old man
♡ Doesn't use emojis except 🖤 if ur lucky
♡ Gets so pissed at Stu who pisses him off on purpose like 'WHAT THE HELL IS SKIBIDI TOILET I'M GONNA PUNCH YOU-"
♡ May have moments where he genuinely lets his walls down by sending those reaction pics with words on them like you see on Pinterest and that's the only way he knows how to say stuff w/o saying it, ya know?
♡ Does have Spotify playlist that remind him of you and Pinterest boards too but wont admit it
♡ If you text him and use a petname he's like 'shut up' while ttly smiling at his phone since you can't see
♡ Wants to know ur location on ur phone or when u get home safe (...He's hiding outside ur house, babe.)
♡ Will fully let his walls down talking for hours to you about movies but his taste can get dark
♡ Surprisingly is more honest/open through text than in person
♡ Total Agoraphobia and uses his phone for dopamine escape while acting about it all. Only time he feels content is you in his bed or arms

do you even know that I want you? | one-shot pt.3!! (N.RK)

“Love's gonna get you killed; But pride's gonna be the death of you, and you and me” kendrick lamar, pride | no warnings, just a lot of depressing shit, DOWN BAD YNNNN, angst, cursing, nonchalant riki and mayb yn too??? gasp, no ending yet, also mentions of giselle from aespa (forgot to mention this in the last part), sunoo, jungwon and hanni from njz | [wc: 1.1k]
taglist: @annybah @foggychildfun @suhiiiies-blog
part 1 and part 2!!
—why has he not replied to your messages? it’s been days, days since you both last talked (it never went on this long) and days since that incident with the girl…
if he is now with her, he would tell you right?
you decided to give him one last chance. you scrolled through your fyp and found a funny video, sending it to him. you stared at your screen, watching as the video turned from sent to seen. you waited, waited and waited… he went offline. wtf?
you can’t shake the uneasy feeling gnawing at you, eating your soul away piece by piece before you quickly exit the app and let out a sigh. if this is how he wanna play it then fine, two can play this game. you went into your friends’ group chat, typing out a message, “guys let’s hangout”
giselle almost respond immediately, “Y/N SPEAKING UP FOR A HANGOUT??? ARE PIGS NOW FLYING?”. Jungwon was the next one: “omg, calm ur ass down it’s not like she won a grammy or sum also yes to y/n”. Hanni responded next, “YESYEYESYSYEYEYYSS!!”. Sunoo was the last one to respond, “omfg sure, i missed this sm”
You smirked at your friends’ eagerness to hangout and sent them a location to hangout at before you got ready and went out.
♡₊˚ 🦢・₊✧
you all gathered at the cafe with giselle by your side and Jungwon and Hanni sticking together by the hip. you and giselle rolled your eyes at the two love birds before you turned to Sunoo, the plan still fresh in your head. the plan was: take a photo with Sunoo and stand extremely close to him, post it and make riki jealous. you know it’s childish, immature even but you have held back all of your pettiness for too long.
“sunoo, picture?” you asked, turning to him while waving your phone in the air, “sure!” he said as he scooted closer to you when you held your phone up, making sure he was in frame with you. you flashed a small smile at the camera, reaching up to poke sunoo’s cheek before click! the picture was taken. you stared at the pic and smiled to yourself, already feeling excited to post this up later.
♡₊˚ 🦢・₊✧
it was a little later and the pictures were posted, including the one with sunoo. almost immediately, riki was the first one to view it and liked it. then, you got a notification.
NOTIFICATION: nishiiiii sent a new message
your heart skipped a beat at the notification and you quickly clicked on it, your eyes roaming around the screen in anticipation. the screen to your chat loaded and riki typed, “wowowow, who’s the guy btw?”. you stared at his message, fingers hovering above the keyboard, “a friend. why? jealous?” you typed out with a smirk.
riki stared at your message, wanting to type out a ‘yes’ to it but held back because of... pride? “no js curious” he typed out before going offline. you felt your eye twitching at the indifference in his message and felt even more infuriated when he went offline. “so how was the party the other day? u js suddenly disappeared and i never saw u”
it took him a while to get back online and he quickly replied to your message, “eh, nothing much, just got drunk and went home with this one girl” he sent. you felt your insides crashing down at his message that confirmed your suspicions, “are u with her now?”
the three bubbles then appeared but disappeared for a few seconds before popping up again, a message finally coming up, “jealous?” he typed back like your earlier message. you didn’t know if you wanted to laugh or cry at that point. “what if i am?” you typed nervously but quickly discarded it, “nvm, forget it”
riki saw your text and frowned, but didn’t type out any more messages oh because he has too much pride and his ego is sky-high. you saw that he didn’t reply to your message but was still online. well, shit, the plan has gone miserably and terribly wrong because you’re still at square one. fuck this shit, you’ll start ignoring him at school too.
♡₊˚ 🦢・₊✧
at school, you were waking to class with giselle though your eyes were somewhere else.
that’s when you saw him, he was with his friends, talking and some girls batting their lashes at him. he saw you and he smiled at you, raising a hand up to wave at you. you saw him and gave him a deadpan face before turning back to giselle, not even bothering to wave at him.
riki noticed this and wanted to catch up to you, ask why the hell were you like this but he held back, he wasn’t supposed to be the one chasing girls, it should be the opposite. so he stayed rooted to his spot, his eyes following after you.
∘₊✧──────✧₊∘
作者.ᐟ: sent my crush a vid abt his dih being small (im sry i was trying to make convo) and he said 'howd yk' i said 'they're cameras in ur house'.... rate my rizz gais (also if u want part 4 js comment!!) xoxo hyerimm

⋆。‧★ PAIRING bf!gyuvin x gn!reader GENRE fluff
⋆。‧★ WARNINGS none?
☆⋆。 — NOTE : tysm for requesting anon !! hope you enjoy !
— we all know gyuvin will be a chaotic ass partner 😭 like this man will be all over you and just bothering you..he’d randomly just touch your face or even tackle you 😢
— you could memorize his moves and get away before he could do anything … yet that never goes successfully because he always has a way !
— as if i didn’t make it obvious already, gyuvin’s love languages are physical touch and quality time 🙏 idk, it seems the most suiting for him.
— you: poking him constantly, covering his screen, messing with his hair, etc and then there’s gyuvin like: “do you want to play too?” like bros a multitasker, he could let you be in his lap while he is pressing his keyboard aggressively LMFAO
— despite your bf being the gamer he is, he’d let you bother him during his games (the partner privilege) 😭 like you’re surprised he doesn’t get annoyed and is able to pay attention to his screen.
— dates would be arcade dates, day/night walks (w/ eumppappa LMAO), movie nights, and js cuddle dates

— would get upset if you aren’t taking care of yourself properly 😭 so like expect daily check ins, and him just spamming you just so you can do what u have to do daily !!
— laughs at everything you do ngl 😭 like he’s the type to roll on the floor while letting out the most loudest laugh ever .. hes so silly but we love him for that

what are your hot takes?
im assuming this is monsterverse hot takes considering thats what i post most about it and thats what most know and follow me for, here i go!
- anyone who thinks the titans are just animals with animal level intelligence needs to pay more attention to the films and extended media, i think ghidorah and godzilla are the biggest examples of species displaying human-level intelligence such as when ghidorah deliberately targeted graham and godzilla deliberately sparing serizawa’s life.
- on the topic of serizawa, i honestly think hes an insult to the character of 1954 serizawa.. never do we see him have anything close to the conflict that led 1954 serizawa to his decision, his sacrifice was purely for nolstagic purposes and moreso because his actor didnt wanna be in the movies anymore 💀 i think serizawa is deadass the most glazed human character of all time, and im not saying that bc ren is my favorite, but serizawa is hardly a character outside of being godzillas hype man and a driving force for mark and ford respectively.. he was a shitty dad and i think that speaks way more volumes than anything he did.
- the monsterverse needs WELL WRITTEN original kaiju, otherwise the monsterverse wont be remembered for anything other than the hollow earth. i mean well written because the mutos were awesome, but shimo and skar king— while interesting, are awfully oversaturated and about three steps away from being a rehashed godzilla and kong.
- destroyah is deadass the most overrated kaiju, i dont think he has any genuine fans because every destroyah fan ive met only likes him because of his title as the ‘strongest kaiju’
- the monsterverse has a huge problem with inconsistency and im tired of it being swept under the rug, i want worldbuilding damnit 💀 we should get more comics that are set in between the events of a film, more average joe characters, and the whole deal w monarch?? i want to see monarch as the bad guy more, monarch is so painfully inconsistent.. in the span of a decade (in universe) they’ve gone from a scp-style organization to.. i dont even know what to call what they are in gxk i js know i dont like it.
- the fandom is overrun with angry neckbeards slamming their cheeto-dust infested fingers against their poor keyboard going ‘THERES TOO MUCH HUMANS!!’ uhm yes no shit! you need humans to move the plot forward and tie the films together, these movies cost a lot of money to make so there will never be a film where the evil kaiju wins..
- i would actually argue there isnt enough humans, and stay with me here.. there isnt enough humans who arent plot devices, take bernie for example, he is the worst possible way an audience surrogate could be done.. they dont bother making the audience care about his dead wife, instead they opt to make him the designated funny guy who somehow always knows something is wrong, but to me he js comes off as loud, needy and annoying 💀
- the monsterverse simply isnt realistic, i know this sounds like a bit of a ‘no shit sherlock!!’ statement but what i mean is we never see consequences for cities being destroyed.. you would think after all the hell china went through to to take hong kong in the real world, they’d be rather upset that the city was decimated, no?? another example of this is madison after getting chased by ghidorah in the stadium somehow only becomes insufferable instead of being good PTSD rep, she is on the go in gvk and again.. serves as a plot device.. so many human characters witness a monster roar right in front of them and somehow dont suffer any damage to their hearing, nobody is shaken up when they witness someone die right in front of them (bernie turned that one guy getting eaten by a plant into a joke and team kong has no reaction to maia getting crushed..) and its js like?? are yall even human?? not every character can be an unfeeling sociopath
- yes, adam wingard did ruin the monsterverse.. to warner bros, its all abt how much money they make and his style of directing has given them the most money, hes a fanboy with his own bias (a very obvious bias, actually!) which is why i think its a good think we have a new director with no prior knowledge, so many franchises suffer from a fan with their own bias directing.. js look at star wars and its infinite discourse.
- the kong favoristim is not only crystal clear but its also SO ANNOYING, everyone ive asked has always said the atomic breathing lizard is cooler than the giant monkey who needs a buff every goddamn movie.. if you have to antagonize godzilla js so kong can be a hero, js leave the writers room atp.. id trade all the kong slop for gamera and co in the mv in a heartbeat without second thought

VENT1 !! ! (should i run away? im bored)
hi gussm, im not really venting but i wanted to know if anyone thinks i should run away/ (also ignore bad grammar, my keyboard is a dick sucking cunt). My mom used to whip me and my siblings with cables and she doesnt hurt us like that anymore but at some point she started targeting me specifically because i was "disrespectful" and needed to be put in my place. Like she would attack me when i didnt do what she wanted. i remember one time i didnt want to go to the table to do my homework when she wanted me to and so when she kept telling me to do so, i said no. after a while of that she had it and went into my room to attack me, as in scratching, hair pulling and at some point she brought in the cable. I dont really remember much of the things she would do, but i would hit back at some point when she would do stuff like that. Which her and my grandma used against me, they would tell me i was an uncontrollable animal and that i was abusive like my dad. My siblings sided with them mostly. it actuall really fucked me up because I believed them and it sent me into a whole depressive thing where i wanted to kms every single da because i did not feel worthy of living. I was online asking people if they thought i should go kms cuz of it and they all told me i needed to call cps, and i thought they were exageratting just cuz it was so normalised for me. She doesn't do anything anymore (i was like 13-14ish when she stopped being physical with me). She actually isn't BAD bad anymore. like she actually acts like a mom sometimes in that she isn't being a bitch or hitting me or breaking my things like she used to. But she does not let me see my friends, and she sides with my grandma even tho she is abusive as well, verbally abusive and litteraly sexualy harrassed me. I caught her tooking a pic of me while i was butt-ass naked in the bathtub. She got mad when i threw a towel at her phone and cursed me for being 'disrespectful'. My grandma would start being physically abusive with me when my mom stopped.
the pic thing was a one of the last fights i had with her tho before CPS got involved.
Im a bit too tired for a whole lore drop, like i dont even have the energy to fix my shit grammar and not all of it is due to my cunt of a keyboard. AND yes iu am posting this at 2am and whoever has an issue with that or my grammar can suck my popping purple peener. (im jkkk, you can suck my lilac flavored labia)
i just want to run away so bad, and just be free. I cannot eat all of the time, have to stay in my room all the time to avoid my grandma as much as possible, my mom got rid of my nice ass driver who let me see my friend oNE TIME, and also im so lonely even though i have some friends. we dont even talk often, i cant even see them and my mom put me in a shit school where i only go once a week and so i couldnt make friends or see my old ones i had at public school. Im also just bored, and the majority of wanting to run away is also js cuz i cant stand how much i hate my parental figures and how bad they gaslit me.
i had some times where i was able to run away but i was too scared. Town is a good 30 min bike ride away from my shitty house, and even though i want to run away, i feel like i physically cant. like theres some invisible wall thats stopping me.

In conversation with Scalzi's 2014 post about enjoying art-stuff that turns out to be problematic (either in itself or by association) Part #2
*lead images are from John Scalzi's talk at the Hugos ceremony, Glasgow Worldcon August 2024*
Here's another link to the John Scalzi blog - from 2014 - that I'm engaging with here and in part #1 a couple of days ago
This second part is - hopefully - a bit more about the action or range of actions to be taken once we are in the position of realising that a Thing We Like is associated with a Person We Don't Approve Of.
I suppose this [how to deal with art made by problematic creators] IS knottier than the question of what to do about problematic art per se, or, using the original language, problematic media per se.
?? Is that right? As I type these words, I don't yet know - this is the Quiet Extravert in me coming out i.e. I'm going to discover what I think by typing words onto my keyboard and assuming what I think isn't unprintable, we'll all find out through the same series of sentences, encountered asynchronously.
So, let me unpack the thought a bit and see. Two immediate scenarios occur to me: i) I innocently encounter a piece of media and, in consuming it, discover that it includes content that is AWFUL and ii) I love an old thing but attitudes have moved on and returning to it, I realise that I NOW understand elements of the content as terrible.
Judging the me in scenario i), I really feel like that version of me could have benefitted from doing better homework before getting started. Fair point. I often do go into things rather under- researched and having to move up the curve. I guess I simply decide whether or not I feel okay to keep on consuming (is it something I am finding hard to endure and, if so, is there really any reason to keep on going with it?).
Scenario ii) is a bit gnarlier (apparently this isn't a word, but I like it so I'm keeping it... AND I just accidently bounced myself into a tiny version of the phenomenon under discussion). I'm not just processing the Terrible Content; I'm also processing my history of enjoying and advocating for work that is no longer acceptable.
At root I am having to deal with the "death" or material adjustment to past happy memories of consuming those works with a pinch of self-consciousness: Oh no, I love/d those works. Am *I* a bad person?
This is where JS's supplementary points from last time make themselves felt, I believe: one, that the person/ thing is problematic, regardless of the fact that you like it; two, that the fact you like it doesn’t mitigate the fact that it is problematic.
[End of excursion away from JS's approach. Carry on, JS!]
Turning to the matter of what action we should take, here are the example questions JS offers // and it's pretty clear from the context (I believe) that this is provided as a non-exhaustive list //
* Should you support the work with money?
* Do you differentiate works from different eras in the creator’s life?
* How much weight should you give to [the creator’s own] historical context?
* How much do you care about a creator’s personal life?
* Does it matter whether the creator is living or dead?
I think these attach primarily to the "problematic person" side of the topic and that intrigued me a little when I compare it to the starting point question (framed mostly as questions about the Thing). Having taken my wee conceptual diversion, I now feel reasonably comfortable that this does indeed reflect that the question of Problematic Stuff is trickier when the art/media is "fine" [is it?] but the creator is known to be or is outed as being a binfire of awfulness.
The first question is altered by our current social media world because of the way attention / clicks can be monetised - it's not effective (if it ever was) to consume The Thing only on "free" media. Giving your attention can be parsed into income for the originator.
NOT problematic (as far as I know) but my main personal example of attention = a form of support has been our family's avid YouTube consumption of the restoration of Tally Ho. The video channel is well made and the symbiosis between project and YT eyes-on-the-project is not only evident but frequently mentioned as encouragement to carry on supporting. No question that the scope and quality of the work has been utterly transformed by having a large subscriber base. That has translated into YT income plus advertising plus an engaged community full of people willing to directly donate $$ and expertise.
youtube
Questions two, three, and four seem like variations of the same issue, as articulated in an expanded version of question four, if we replace "creator's personal life" with "the person of the creator". Dancing with vocabulary but that second formulation seems to me to incorporate their historical context and whether there's a moment in a creator's life when they plummet from grace. (Assuming it's an identifiable moment and assuming we decide to have confidence that there wasn't more of the same happening out of sight, earlier. Are we?)
I find myself settling on a view that there's no pre-formed by rote measure to be applied, not one I'm comfortable signing up to. Arguing myself into feeling that treatment is a matter of conscience, assessed case-by-case, and open to being revised at any time.
Yes, some issues will ALWAYS matter. Yes, some topics don't attract universal condemnation but you can still choose to insulate yourself from them if your ethical framework or mental health care requires.
Question five sounds like it a solution - at least we wouldn't be bracing for the next piece of IRT terrible behaviour - but I'm not convinced that time passing diminishes whatever wrong things have been done. (If the behaviour's reprehensible, that remains true.)
Better, perhaps, to adopt the strategy advocated in a considerable more recent John Scalzi post (15th Aug 2024), which is Against Idols. Just making the case that no human can stand under the burden of standards and expectations we project and transfer onto our heroes* and suggesting that it's better if we don't try to make them do so.
(*Except, possibly, Taylor Swift. I'm TS-neutral // I know: I've missed out // but from outside, over here, she seems to be nailing it so far?)

NICK OF ALL TRADES, NUMEROUS TALENTS & MANY HATS

By John Stein | Photos by Jay Fuertez

Nick Stracener is best known to his 200,000 followers on Instagram for wearing close to nothing at all. In real life, however, he wears many hats. In addition to being a social media star, he’s a nationally qualified men’s physique athlete, an international flight attendant, and a DJ/producer whose new remix of Lindsay Lohan’s “Back to Me” was recently heralded by the Hollywood actress. What doesn’t the soon-to-be husband do?Wire Magazine spoke with Nick from his Dallas home.
John Stein: Before breaking into DJing, you traveled the world as a go-go boy! DJ Nick Stracener: I’ve go-go danced in Dallas, Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles, San Diego, Toronto, Oklahoma City, Austin, and a few other cities that I can’t remember off the top of my head.
JS: Was it fun? NS: It was a great opportunity to really let loose, express myself, be creative, and come out of my shell. I’m naturally a shy person, but when I’m on stage or on the box, I feel confident.

JS: Do go-go boys get the respect they deserve? NS: I don’t think so. These guys spend countless hours in the gym and maintain strict diets year-round just so they stay booked at all the biggest events. It takes a lot of commitment to stay in top physical form all year.
JS: So, how did you make the jump from the box to the booth? NS: I am a self-taught DJ. After putting my second mix on Soundcloud, DILF Party reached out to me to open up for Kitty Glitter in Dallas. That went really well and I was booked for DILF Atlanta and DILF LA and the gigs kept rolling in. Then COVID-19 hit.
JS: How would you describe your style of music? NS: It’s a combination of indigenous rhythms with a lot of sultry uplifting female vocals. I want to give you something upbeat to dance to most of the time, but also take you on a journey with slow moments so you can experience different emotions. Music, to me, is therapy and a way to escape life’s biggest hurdles.

JS: Who are your favorite divas? NS: Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Whitney Hou-ston, J.Lo, and Lindsay Lohan.
JS: Let’s talk Lindsay. Has she heard your remix of “Back to Me”? NS: Yes, she did! My friend, who knows Lindsay, sent it to her. She sent me a video telling me how much she liked the remix and that she would like to meet me at some point. So yeah, that was pretty exciting. I hope I do get the chance to meet her one day.
JS: What inspired you to remix her song? NS: I am drawn to Lindsay’s confidence and how she comes across so fierce. She’s an entrepreneur, which is something that I can relate to.
JS: She also battles her share of criticism online. Do you? NS: I encounter bullies every week on my Instagram. When people are behind a keyboard, they will say anything. It really used to get to me. I’ve gotten better at not taking things personally. The more I ignore, the happier I am.

JS: Are you as bold and confident as you project on Instagram? NS: Bold, yes. Confident, not always. I want people to know that behind the risqué pictures and the body, there is an actual human being. I have feelings, just like everyone. I am a shy and introverted person until you take a minute to get to know me.
JS: Are you keeping up with your workout routine during these weeks in quarantine? NS: I’m trying! I found a set of dumbbells on Craigslist and bought some cables.
JS: What's the deal with wearing the leotard? NS: (Laughing) I don’t usually sport women’s clothing, but every once in a while, I do like to create an Instagram post that makes a state-ment. The brand I’m wearing is called EX-SL and it’s a men’s lingerie company. You can be as masculine or feminine as you want. I hate labels. Masculinity is not defined by what you wear.
JS: Tell us about becoming a nationally qualified men’s physique athlete. What did you have to do to achieve that? NS: To become nationally qualified, you have to place first or second at a show. My first show took place in Houston in 2018. I placed 4th. Shortly after, I competed in Dallas at the Ronnie Coleman Classic. I worked on my posing and tweaked my diet, and took first! It was one of the proudest moments of my life!

JS: How often do you work out? NS: Pre-corona, I would work out six days a week. Chest is my favorite. It’s also one of the hardest muscles for me to grow.
JS: Do you follow a strict diet? NS: My meals usually consist of a good protein, a good carb, and a good fat like avocado. I try and stay away from fried foods and sugar. I drink a lot of unsweet tea with Splenda to satisfy my sweet tooth; definitely a southern thing.
JS: How has the pandemic impacted your job as a flight attendant? NS: The pandemic has vastly affected everyone in the airline industry. Personally, I haven’t been able to pick up any extra flying, and that means bills are getting harder to pay and my anxiety has been super bad lately.
JS: You've been open on Instagram about your struggles with depression and anxiety. NS: My anxiety levels have skyrocketed over the last few weeks. I expected it would. A lot is from worrying about things that are out of my control.

JS: Is your fiancé helping to keep your spirits up? NS: My fiancé, CX, has been an incredible source of light through all of this. He reminds me how far I’ve come and encourages me to stay positive. We have been staying very busy with our two new fur babies, Oliver and Olivia. They don’t allow us a whole lot of time to dwell on the situation at hand, which has been a blessing.
JS: Where can fans find you during this time of COVID-19? NS: I have done a couple of live streams on Instagram and Facebook. I just got some better equipment, so I will be doing even more soon.
JS: Any shout outs to your Miami fans? NS: I just want to thank all of you for supporting me and my music, and I can’t wait to be back in beautiful Miami real soon!

sibling interview tag
thank you so much for the tag @justkeeponsimming! I love your blog so I couldn’t believe that you tagged me to do this. but it’s such a cute idea so I'm very glad that you did!
I tag @smallcowplant, @lavenderm00nlight, @lilacsimblr, @captainsilversims, @givememoveobjectsorgivemedeath and anyone else who would like to do it! but feel free to just ignore if you don’t fancy it.
you don’t see anything of him in my current gameplay, but kieran has a cute lil’ bro called jayden. so this is their version of the sibling interview tag!
1. which one of you is the older sibling?
kieran: hmmm, I don’t know. that’s a tough one, what do you think, jay?
jayden: it’s you, old man. you’re like 46.
kieran: i’m 20.
jayden: basically the same thing, isn’t it?
kieran: alright, pipsqueak.
2. what do you like about your sibling?
jayden: nothing.
kieran: liar.
jayden: yeah, yeah, yeah. well...you make pretty good pb&js.
kieran: thanks, dude. I like that you wear cool sneakers.
jayden: you bought me these.
kieran: point proven.
3. what annoys you about your sibling?
jayden: everything.
kieran: when you leave chips out on the counter and they go all soft. you just ruin them, dude.
jayden: well, everything you do is annoying, but it’s really annoying when you take my comic books and forget about them. there are so many stuffed under your bed!
kieran: if you know they’re there then why don’t you just take them back?
4. describe your sibling in three adjectives
kieran: smartass, funny and...nerdy. you’re a bit of a nerd.
jayden: I am not!
kieran: you totally are.
jayden: fine. you’re dumb, smelly and dorky.
kieran: ...nice!
5. what is your sibling’s biggest talent?
jayden: you’re good at farting in my room.
kieran: you’re good at whining to mom.
6. what is your sibling really bad at?
kieran: not much really, you’re a smart little dude.
jayden: yeah I am.
kieran: maybe unloading the dishwasher when it’s your turn.
jayden: you never unload the dishwasher.
kieran: I never claimed that I did.
jayden: you’re bad at doing chores too then. and just being responsible in general.
kieran: thanks, lil’ bro.
7. do you have nicknames for each other?
jayden & kieran: butthead.
8. what’s one thing you can do that your sibling can’t?
kieran: drive.
jayden: I can drive in video games though. you can’t pass a test in a video game or in real life though.
kieran: hey come on, I've passed some exams.
jayden: not many.
kieran: and yet i’m still here.
9. did you get along when you were younger?
kieran: well when you were younger you couldn’t talk, so we couldn’t do much together. I just used to read books to you and play with your toys for you.
jayden: you still do that now.
kieran: ...and?
10. what is your funniest childhood memory with your sibling?
jayden: I don’t know, you always make things funny.
kieran: what about when we tried to work at the ice cream stall outside our apartment? you loved that.
jayden: yeah! and when justin finally let you serve someone and you messed up their order so you got us a free ice cream I laughed so much-
kieran: the orange juice from your juice box came down your nose?
jayden: and I dropped the ice cream! so you had to mess it up again!
11. are you closer now or when you were younger?
kieran: now; you weren’t this much fun when all you did was sleep, eat, poop and cry.
jayden: why? that’s all you do now?
kieran: see? this is so much more fun than when you were a baby!
12. did you compete with each other?
jayden: well you’re older than me so we’ve never really had to compete for anything. and i’m a lot more into school than you were anyway.
kieran: that’s a pretty nice way of saying i’m dumb, jay.
jayden: I never said you were dumb! you know lots of stuff, just not stuff that you need to know for school.
kieran: hey, don’t worry, dude, I know i’m not that smart. you, however, got all of mom and dad’s smarts, so yeah, there’s never really been any competition between us; we’re both good at our own things in our own ways.
13. which one of you is more likely to turn out like your mom or dad?
kieran: you’re definitely more like mom.
jayden: you think?
kieran: yeah, you’re both really smart. and mom’s always super organised like you.
jayden: well you’re more like dad; you’re always trying to make people laugh.
kieran: trying? or succeeding?
jayden: succeeding, duh.
14. which one of you is most likely to have a big family?
jayden: ew, I don’t know. I don’t want to think about having kids.
kieran: dude, same. you definitely won’t want many kids though, you won’t be able to cope with the mess.
jayden: why? mom can cope with yours.
kieran: yeah but mom’s like a superhero or something.
15. what is one thing about your sibling that has changed as you’ve gotten older?
kieran: you’ve gotten taller.
jayden: you’ve gotten dumber.
kieran: you’d think it was a joke but it’s actually true.
16. who’s better at maths?
kieran: you. no question.
jayden: you’re not that bad.
kieran: try me.
jayden: what’s 9+10?
kieran: 21.
jayden: dude...
kieran: what? it’s not my fault you don’t know vine culture.
17. who is more pessimistic and who’s more optimistic?
kieran: I don’t think either of us are pessimistic. you have nothing to be pessimistic about anyway.
jayden: yeah, and you’re really good at finding the good in everything. I don’t think I've ever seen you be pessimistic.
kieran: I can’t be when I've got you around.
jayden: eww that was cheesy.
kieran: ewwwww grossssssss.
18. is there anything you like doing together?
jayden: playing video games!
kieran: or just exploring places around our apartment building. we’ve found a ton of cool places by accident. and a lot of cool things. I've got a ton of snow globes in my room after we found a huge box of them by a dumpster.
19. which one of you do you think will get married first?
jayden: ewwww, marriage is gross. kissing’s gross, let alone marrying someone!
kieran: I know, right?
jayden: oh please, everyone knows you want to kiss and marry jo-
kieran: okay, that’s enough of that! and for the record... I don’t.
jayden: dude, you’re such a bad liar.
20. lastly, how often do you argue?
kieran: about food? like every day.
jayden: never about anything bad though. it’s always just little dumb things. but we never get mad at each other.
kieran: of course we don’t, how could I get mad at that face?
jayden: pretty easily when I took your laptop to play keyboard commander.
kieran: okay, but that was only because you didn’t ask and I was supposed to be video-chatting with jo.
jayden: you’d been at school with her all day.
kieran: and? I missed her.
jayden: what was that about you not wanting to kiss-
kieran: jayden!

Happy Birthday (Shinsou Hitoshi x Reader)
uhhhhhhh i would die for shinsou and he deserves the best birthday in the entire world js
Sleepless nights had become more common than nights when he could sleep for Shinsou Hitoshi.
Sometimes this was a good thing as he would have time to stay up and work on homework or just relax, maybe if he was really restless go out for a short walk, but there were also times where those restless nights weren’t so fun. There were times when all he wanted was to sleep, to wash away all the crap that had built up to amount for one horrible day and start fresh the next day, but when he couldn’t sleep, it felt like all those thoughts and feelings carried on with him to the following day.
It was a pretty bad cycle, in his opinion, and he wanted nothing more but to put a stop to it somehow, but lately there hadn’t been much that could help. He was often left tossing and turning in an annoyed attempt to get comfortable or getting up twenty times to get a glass of water or just stretch his legs, but nothing could put him to sleep so he was left to stare at the screen of his phone, which was probably way too bright to be healthy for his eyes, but his phone was his only solace. Or rather, you were his only solace.
Sometimes he felt guilty texting you at early hours of the morning, knowing you were probably just as sleepy as he was, so he’d sit there with a message typed out but end up just staring at it for a few minutes before deleting it. He didn’t want to wake you up just for him, after all, that would be selfish. Besides, the last thing he wanted to do was something that would turn you away from him.
His feelings for you weren’t really...intentional, but then again, no crush ever was. It started out small, and to be honest he was kind of suspicious in regards to how friendly you were to him, introducing yourself within the first few days of his time at UA and going on to say ‘Good morning!’ or a similar small greeting the following days. Once he realized you weren’t just talking to him out of pity, surely hearing the little rumors here or there regarding his quirk, he started to return the favor, starting with small talk and moving on to a point where the two of you would eat lunch together almost every day. It was nice to have someone to talk to after all, especially since you didn’t seem to mind his sarcastic and sometimes cynical sense of speaking and would often add your own witty quips that got even him to smile. Before he knew it, seeing you everyday became a motivator in his life, especially after you spoke so encouragingly to him about following his dreams to become a hero. ‘Puppy love’, you could call it, as it could surely be seen as childish to feel such strong feelings towards someone after only a few months, but hey, you can’t help what your heart longs for.
The quiet ‘buzz’ caused by the vibration coming from his phone brought him out of his stupor, and for a moment he was a bit annoyed since he knew he was slowly falling asleep, no doubt thinking of you, but seeing that the message was actually from you soothed that irritation, and when he actually read the message, he felt like an idiot for how warm his cheeks became and he had to bite his cheek to keep himself from smiling just as stupidly as he read it over a second time.
‘i’m guessing ur awake anyways so hopefully i’m the first to say happy birthday Hitoshi!!!!’
The following burst of different birthday themed emojis was cute, in his opinion, and the last few hearts revitalized the itch he’d been suppressing to just ask you out already and get it over with. His thumbs danced over the keyboard awkwardly as he tried to think of what to say, knowing a simple ‘thanks’ would be too little but ‘hey, would you date me if I asked?’ would be way too much, at least for him. Before he had the chance to actually say something in response, however, the little typing bubble popped up on his screen before he received another message from you.
‘also I haven’t been able to get you a gift yet, but I promise it won’t be too late!’
The idea that you even felt the need to get him a gift was ridiculous. After all, with you around, what more could he ask for? A moment passed and he began typing out a response of his own, a smile still on his face as he pressed send.
‘here I thought we were friends, guess I’m just gonna have a lonely sad birthday’
The quickness of your text back made him feel a sense of pride or maybe just happiness to have your attention on him, but when he actually read your message, his smile dropped only to be replaced by a look of shock.
‘hey who said it had to be lonely??? we should go get something to eat after school tomorrow! I’ll pay of course birthday boy’
If the mention of going out to eat with you alone wasn’t enough to make his heart jump out of his chest, the little kissy face emoji surely was and he could not believe how much a tiny stupid little digital drawing could make his heart race. There’s no way that would be considered a date, right? It was just a gift, after all, but in any other circumstances…
‘obvi we don’t have to though’
A message, and then moments later, yet another one.
‘sorry if that’s like weird or something’
Were you...nervous? ‘No way’, he told himself, thinking there was no possible way someone like you could feel nervous around someone like him. He felt nervous every time he opened his mouth around just because of how he felt though, so maybe there was some hope that you felt similarly. Still, even with his heart and mind racing he couldn’t just leave you without an answer, so he typed out a response before hesitantly hitting send, thanking whatever gods that were out there that you hadn’t asked this in person because his voice surely would have been shaking if he had to respond to your request vocally, but thankfully if he worded things right you wouldn’t be able to tell just how anxious he was.
‘not weird at all, that sounds good actually’
If only he knew that the anxious breath he took in was matched to a relieved one you let out upon receiving such a message, thanking the heavens that you hadn’t just ruined the chance you had been building up to get to for weeks upon recognizing you “slight” crush on your purple haired hero as your thumbs typed quickly with excitement.
‘awesome sounds like a plan!!!!! i should probably be gettin to sleep tho, u should too nerd!’
That was enough to bring a soft smile to his face again, the endearing ‘insult’ never failing to make him happy as he texted you his ‘good night’ message before placing his phone down on his bedside table. After sitting up for a moment he laid back down, one arm draped over his eyes as he smiled to himself like the love struck loser he was. Oh, what a ‘happy’ birthday it was, and it had only just begun.

Lecture 6
I just remembered that professionalism was part of the portfolio marking criteria so I’ll try to keep it PG in these posts. Meaning that I’m allowed to drop one and only one F-bomb somewhere.
Avalanching
Recall that the Merkle-Damgard hash construction looked like this:
The reason the hash function is segmented into the various f’s you see above, is to allow avalanching to occur; the property that causes good cryptographic hashes to be drastically different from one another, even if the edit distance of the inputs if minimal. This allows for the semantic meaning of relatively similar inputs to be obfuscated, as one would otherwise be able to perhaps glean information pertaining to the information that had been hashed, through observation of the structure of the hash string and comparison with other similar hashes e.g. if hashing 12345 and 12346 produced hashes of 0xaa0geb212r3r3142q and 0xaa0geb212r3r3131w, then an attacker could probably guess the structure of the input at the very least and perhaps interpolate the inputs by generating other hashes.
Passwords Part II
From the exam, we might have found that the # of bits of security that we get from a random password using the Elephant Apple Golfing principle (or some shit I don’t remember the stupid name) isn’t as many as we would like. It’s naive to say that a password has as many bits as it is long, unless those bits are truly random and the full complement of ASCII characters are actually utilised, such as \0. Indeed most passwords aren’t that many bits, given that they’re based largely on quotes, names, birthdays etc. etc. and it’s only a matter of time before increases in computing power renders them obsolete.
So yeah, the answer to that question pertaining to the Homophobic Dog Shagger principle is 40-49 bits i.e. the smallest choice. Congratulations if you got it right.
This kind of segues into why WEP keys are terrible:
They’re consisted of a shared 40 bit key, that everyone connected to a network knows, and a 24 bit initialisation vector that was randomly generated locally by the receiver that were combined to form a ‘64′ bit key and this key was used to encrypt every frame. The obvious issue with this is that it’s trivial to brute force 24 bits, and it’s probably trivial to brute force 40 bits, and it wasn’t too difficult combining all the brute forced combinations to obtain the purported 64 bit key.
Mixing Control and Data - Smashing the Stack for Fun and Profit
http://phrack.org/issues/49/14.html
Mixing control and data is bad, don’t do it. C lets us do it and although most modern compilers such as gcc and clang have several countermeasures for stack smashing, it remains a useful case study and a common issue in modern software.
Buffer overflows can occur when someone writes shit code and rather than fixing declaring a fixed array size in their loop iteration, they end the array loop once the program hits NULL, allowing a third-party to use a function such as strcpy() - that doesn’t check buffer size - to stuff more in the buffer than has been allocated to memory. There are other methods too but this is the most intuitive to understand.
The Stack and Return Addresses:
Computers switch context lots of times a second to allow them to deal with interrupts from a multitude of sources. When something interrupts them, such as a keyboard entry perhaps, the computer will execute the interrupt and then return to whatever task it was completing before. How it knows where to return in the code, is by adding the address of that particular point where it stopped - the return address - as well as the miscellaneous parameters that the code needed to execute, onto a LIFO structure known as the stack. These miscellaneous parameters, such as our array, are stored before the pointer and as such, by overflowing the array, we are able to overwrite whatever return address was in stored at the pointer(’s address) which paves the way for all sorts of shenanigans.
Most common of these shenanigans: - Actually writing code into an overflowed buffer and addressing the pointer to the location of this code - Getting a shell open
Overflowing the array is most commonly done with a NOP Sled, which is simply consisted of a bunch of NOPs (no operation commands) that serve to pad the buffer up to the memory/stack address containing the return address and your payload which can be either a memory address pointing to your code or pointing to whatever would open up a shell. This requires us to know the # of NOPs to place into our sled, which can be done in a variety of methods that the course doesn’t require us to know.
*will add more to this section as I read more on it*
NIST and the History of Ciphers
Even after WWII, ciphers were not particularly powerful and for a while there was a ‘crypto black hole’ where no new cryptographic methods were being devised and nobody was aware of any principles one should follow. This changed with the advent of computers and eventually, groups concerned about security put out a standard known as NIST. Except noone knew what to put into the standard and so a competition was held which noone except IBM entered into and they won by default. And so IBM’s DES was adopted and had at the time, only 56 bits. Then the NSA comes along, looks at DES, breaks it in two seconds using their differential cryptographic methods and says ‘yeah it’s okay keep using it XD’.
Except everyone was like HANG ON, and eventually a successor AES was built. AES was predicated, much like DES, on performing many permutations, transposing and other obfuscating measures, which created an encryption method that was difficult to break feasibly, but had significantly more bits than AES. XSS (Cross Site Scripting) or why Javascript is awful Cross Site Scripting
Involved placing Javascript on a webpage, for example in a poorly secured forum, where you know unassuming people would visit. The Javascript will execute upon that page opening and whatever was in the JS will proceed to wreak havoc. Common attacks include stealing your cookies to impersonate you.
SQL & Command Injections
Webpages that require you to enter your username and password into fields will typically take the characters you entered as your username and password, stick them in an SQL query and execute said query to check your username and password against a preexisting username and password database.
Instead of entering our usernames and passwords, we can enter actual SQL code which will actually execute, due to the nature of PHP converting your input into code. This wouldn’t work in any other language. For example:
Here’s an example query taken off https://www.acunetix.com/websitesecurity/sql-injection/
# Define POST variables uname = request.POST['username'] passwd = request.POST['password'] # SQL query vulnerable to SQLi sql = “SELECT id FROM users WHERE username=’” + uname + “’ AND password=’” + passwd + “’” # Execute the SQL statement database.execute(sql)
Now, we could easily input as the password:
password' OR 1=1
which would cause:
SELECT id FROM users WHERE username='username' AND password='password' OR 1=1'
SELECT id FROM users WHERE username=‘username’ AND password=‘password OR 1=1′
to execute, which would return the first ID of the first user in the database table due to that 1=1 is always true and the query is made complete by the ‘ appended to the word password.
We could easily modify this query to print out the entire table if we wanted to write more code.
Command injections rely on the same concept of writing code into input boxes, but instead we write shell code and grep our way to sensitive data.
Cryptocurrency
Wasn’t really paying attention to this part, I’ll fill it in later
Block Modes
How we combine individually ciphered blocks of a ciphertext, like we did in the Merkle-Damgard hash (recall that the input was split into blocks), to get a whole ciphertext:
- Can concatenate them like in WEP - Or more commonly, we can use CBC which is really convoluted: here’s some reading if you’re interested, but basically each unciphered block is XOR’d with the previous block.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Block_cipher_mode_of_operation#Cipher_Block_Chaining_(CBC)
Authentication - WIP
How? What decisions?
Humans are bad at looking at faces
No point in confidentiality, if there is no authentication
Defence in depth
Something you know
Have: let's send someone an SMS when they type their PW WOW.
2FA worked well initially, however, SMS is easy to intercept.
Have single point of weakness, in your phone
Are:
Requires secrets to be confidential, keyloggers, shoulder surfing etc.
Naïve but easy to implement

The Biggest Geek Culture Moments of 2020
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
This article contains a spoiler for The Mandalorian Season 2
2020 has been a wild and unpredictable year for most of us, but it also brought with it a ton of key cultural incidents and shifts that kept online news and trade outlets pretty busy at their keyboards. As we finally grind toward the end of a very weird 12 months, we’ve been looking back at some of the more stand-out moments in geek culture, which we’ll recap with you here.
You may find that these cultural markers aren’t listed in chronological order. That’s because in 2020, time ceased to exist in its previously understood form. Wednesday rarely meant anything, Monday was still technically the worst but couldn’t be trusted either way, Saturdays were no longer reserved for the notion of relaxation, and any given Tuesday might as well have taken place in a different universe, such was the obliqueness of its concept. Is it December right now, or July? No one really knows anymore.
But things still happened in 2020! Things and stuff definitely happened, we’re almost sure of it. Here are some of the things and stuff that probably happened, several of which you’d struggle to explain to a past version of yourself without the board from Chernobyl and scheduled breaks…
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson Get COVID-19
Shit got real on March 11 when beloved Forrest Gump actor Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson both tested positive for COVID-19 while filming on location in Australia. 63-year-old Hanks, who has Type 2 Diabetes and a stent in his heart, was fairly sure he was in a high-risk group, but at the time we still knew very little about the virus.
Hanks’ updates on he and Wilson’s recovery were little lights in the darkness over the next few weeks, and when the pair appeared to have made it through the worst, there was a sense of relief that 2020 would – at the very least – not steal him, but Hanks said he was way more relaxed than us about the whole thing. “I’m not one who wakes up in the morning wondering if I’m going to see the end of the day or not,” he told The Guardian. “I’m pretty calm about that.” He’s since become a strong advocate for social distancing measures. – KH
Tiger King of the World
Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness debuted on Netflix globally on March 20, becoming the first quarantine binge of the pandemic. A problematic series from the get-go, there was comfort to be found in its existence, as it became apparent that even if things were really quite shit at home, at least you hadn’t been fed to a tiger yet. The Snyder Cut Rises
They said it would never happen. And by “they” I have to confess, I mean “we.” But it’s true, Warner Bros. actually is spending tens of millions of dollars to let Zack Snyder finish his Justice League movie as he originally intended it. And the fans who have kept hope alive since the disappointing Joss Whedon-helmed theatrical cut of the movie are getting even more than they bargained for, since the no-longer-mythical “Snyder Cut” isn’t just a movie, it’s a four hour long miniseries event headed to HBO Max.
The early 2021 release of the Director’s Cut of Justice League (which now appears to be its official title) will mark the culmination of five years of fan demands, and will finally put a bow on Snyder’s original vision of the DCEU, completing the trilogy he began with 2016’s Man of Steel. Hopefully it lives up to everyone’s expectations. – MC
Next-Gen Gaming Breaks the Internet…Literally
2020 turned out to be a very important year for gaming. Not only did it see the release of many highly-anticipated titles, such as The Last of Us Part II, Cyberpunk 2077, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and Ghost of Tsushima, but it also ushered in a new generation of gaming with the arrival of the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 as well as new PC graphics cards from NVIDIA and AMD.
Unfortunately, when it comes to next-gen gaming in 2020, all other topics of discussion are eclipsed by just how difficult it’s been to actually buy any of these new consoles or GPUs. From the moment pre-orders opened, getting one of these next-gen products has been a nightmare. Retail sites like Amazon, Best Buy, and GameStop went down almost immediately on day 1 of pre-orders for both consoles, and have remained generally low in stock ever since, servers shaky at best. And the scalpers who used bots to buy up consoles and graphics cards to flip for exorbitant prices certainly haven’t helped.
If you got that next-gen gaming experience you wanted for Christmas this year, count yourself lucky! – JS
Trolls World Tour Starts a War
Universal’s Trolls World Tour was the first major movie to properly break and go straight to go streaming in 2020. Whether this was a movie you’d have personally sought out or not, it would have made a ton of money in a non-pandemic year. After that, eyes turned to the big studios, as we waited to see whether the likes of Black Widow, Bill & Ted Face the Music, or Mulan would follow suit.
Warner Bros., who had strenuously backed Christopher Nolan’s Tenet for a theatrical release, did a handbrake turn late in 2020 when it announced – to much industry outrage – that its full schedule of big budget movies, including Dune and The Matrix 4, would see a “day and date” streaming release on HBO Max in 2021 after Wonder Woman 1984 would do the same on Christmas Day. Disney has so far refused to match this gambit, but there are big changes and repercussions afoot for the theatrical release model, even when this is all over. – KH
Disney Doesn’t Throw Away Its Shot
While the first couple of movies to crack the theatrical window such as Trolls: World Tour and Onward were treated as relatively low stakes and aimed at a younger demographic, no early release came earlier, or made as much noise, as Hamilton going to Disney+ over Independence Day Weekend. The filmed version of the original cast performance dropped on the streamer a full 15 months ahead of its planned theatrical release, and it was by any measure a roaring success, finally enabling millions of people who had long been enamored with the soundtrack but been shut out of ticket lotteries and prohibitive Broadway pricing to experience Lin-Manuel Miranda’s history lesson in the comfort of their own home.
Early data suggests that his was the biggest direct-to-streaming release of the year, which should surprise exactly nobody. – MC
Of course, the success of Hamilton emboldened…
Borat 2 Sex Lawyer
Donald Trump’s most visible lawyer Rudy Giuliani already had a bad rep, but in late October he was literally caught with his hands down his pants in a New York City hotel room after being tricked into comedian Sasha Baron Cohen’s Borat sequel, Subsequent Moviefilm. During one particular scene, Borat and his ‘daughter’ Tutar (Maria Bakalova) tried to seduce Giuliani.
“Rudolph was Donald’s best buddy in the whole world,” Borat narrated. “And also very dignified statesman of the highest order. This would not be easy.”
If you’re really serious about legally challenging the vote you don’t send your two worst kids and the Borat sex lawyer.
— Ned Hartley (@NedHartley) November 6, 2020
It was in fact very easy, and he reportedly thought she was only 15. Still struggling with the knowledge that Giuliani got away with it? You and everyone else, pal. Still, at least he might go down in history as “the Borat sex lawyer.” – KH
Timthetatman’s Fall Guys Twitch Gauntlet
Timthetatman’s August quest to win a crown on Mediatonic’s smash hit battle royale knockout game Fall Guys was a supremely satisfying highlight of the year. Streamer Timothy Betar, who can typically be found playing slightly more ‘grown up’ games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on Twitch, simply got a bee in his bonnet about not being able to win at Fall Guys. Betar spent nearly two weeks playing the game for long stretches of time as his audience grew exponentially, almost always failing at the very last moment, while a huge chunk of the gaming community trolled and encouraged him in equal measure – including the official Fall Guys Twitter account.
In the end, almost 340,000 viewers were watching Tim live on Twitch as he finally snatched a single Fall Guys crown, giving those of us trapped at home a chance to experience a single vicarious moment of pure exhilaration. Truly wonderful. – KH
“Crisp Rat”
It was a big year for Chris Pratt on social media, despite the fact that he didn’t really do much of note except have a baby and finish filming Jurassic World: Dominion. The fallout from 2019’s accusations that the actor attends an anti-LGBT church was the blood that pumped through the veins of Twitter’s 24/7 cancellation machine, refueled by Pratt’s non-appearance at Joe Biden’s virtual fundraiser alongside other MCU castmates.
Some saw this as “evidence” that the actor was deserving of a cancelation, and he was dubbed “the worst Chris” in Hollywood. Robert Downey Jr. and other Marvel stars jumped to his defence, declaring Pratt “a real #Christian who lives by #principle” and who has “never demonstrated anything but #positivity and #gratitude”, but Twitter had made up its mind, and it was soon recasting Jack Black in every role Pratt had filled to date. – KH
His Name …Is Grogu
It’s rather surreal to think that The Mandalorian’s powerful pop culture impact was mostly attributed to a character who had no proper name, only officially referred to as “The Child,” and colloquially—for lack of a better term—dubbed “Baby Yoda.” However, this year’s Chapter 13 would see Rosario Dawson’s debuting live-action version of animated favorite Ahsoka Tano use the Force to child-whisper the name of “Grogu.” In doing so, fans, Star Wars-driven SEO, and the Disney merchandising apparatus received an early Christmas present. However, even with the emotionally evocative Season 2 finale in the rear-view mirror, breaking the habit of calling him Baby Yoda is going to be a process as tough as worrying about his safety, especially given his new destination, and with whom it will likely have him come into contact. – JB
Tenet-cious C
Christopher Nolan was the butt who wouldn’t quit in 2020 as he sought to Save Cinema with his highly anticipated blockbuster about time travel, heists and many guns going pow-pow-pow. Whether it was his intention or not, he seemingly encouraged punters to ignore escalating scientific evidence to avoid indoor public spaces and trot along to their local theatre to watch the film. Nolan’s heart was probably in the right place, but it was a bad look for the director overall, compounded by Tenet’s eventual release on streaming, when the majority of keen audiences finally got a chance to clap their eyes on what turned out to be …well, let’s just say “not exactly a masterpiece.” – KH

DC FanDome
Fandom has collectively been at a loss as far as how to replace the convention experience during the pandemic. And so far, attempts by heavy hitters like San Diego Comic-Con and New York Comic Con to replicate the buzz of a weekend packed with fan experiences and big news drops were tremendous disappointments. Pre-recorded Zoom panels don’t excite when all we do all day as a society is stare at that cursed app, buggy launches make it worse, and the fact that studios/networks/publishers didn’t really help put their best foot forward didn’t help.
But then along came DC FanDome.
What many (including this writer) expected to be a weekend-long infomercial about DC Universe intellectual property and how wonderful new corporate overlords AT&T would be for all these juicy brands was instead the slickest, most exciting, and yes…even newsworthy virtual event of the year. Rapid fire announcements from the big screen debut of the Justice Society in Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam movie to concept art from the long-awaited Flashpoint film were only the appetizer, with Warner Bros. unveiling a stunningly cool trailer for The Batman, and delivering the equivalent of a Saturday night in Hall H to fans who have been mostly confined to their homes since the spring. – MC
Meet Elliot Page
In a year when so much of the news was bad, joyous announcements felt that much more sweet. This was the case for Elliot Page’s sharing that he is trans, and uses “he” and “they” pronouns.
“I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life,” the 33-year-old Canadian actor, who is perhaps best known for their work in Juno, the X-Men prequel films, and Netflix’s Umbrella Academy, wrote on Instagram in early December. “I feel overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me along this journey. I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self.”
While it was a moment of celebration and affirmation, Page also used the opportunity to educate the public on the ongoing epidemic of violence against Black and brown trans women in particular, at least 40 of whom have been killed in the U.S. this year. Page wrote: “To all trans people who deal with harassment, self-loathing, abuse and the thread of violence every day: I see you, I love you and I will do everything I can to change this world for the better.” -KB
The Diamond Monopoly Breaks
Diamond Comics Distributors has for years been a uniter in the comics industry for years. It didn’t matter how much DC or Marvel heads would be at each other’s throats – when a damaged box with only 70% of the comics your shop ordered rolled in a day late, everyone agreed that Diamond was terrible.
Until April, when, in the middle of the pandemic, DC backed two new distributors. Then, a contingent of fans couldn’t rush to Diamond’s defense fast enough.
Lunar Distribution and UCS Comics Distribution were new comics distributors created by DCBS and Midtown Comics, respectively, and stood up by DC to create competition against Diamond’s not-technically-but-really monopoly. This was an enormous shift decades in the making, and coupled with DC’s move to a Tuesday NCBD, represented the biggest change in the comics industry this century. – JD
Dr DisRespect Gets Kicked off Twitch
The live streaming community was rife with controversies this year, especially when it came to Twitch: misconduct allegations lodged at many of its most high-profile streamers, a reportedly toxic and abusive work environment within the company, and a DMCA fiasco that saw streamers’ content disappear over night. And then there was Dr DisRespect’s exit from the platform.
Booted from Twitch at the end of June despite a hefty multi-year, multi-million dollar contract, the streamer, whose real name is Guy Beahm, suddenly found himself completely erased from existence, his channel and content deleted from the service. But why? At first, many in the industry assumed the worst, especially since it came just as Twitch was beginning to address misconduct in its community.
But despite the high-profile break up between Twitch and one of its key stars, we still don’t actually know why Beahm was kicked off the platform all of these months later. All Twitch has said on the matter is that Beahm “acted in violation of our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service,” while the streamer himself has remained largely silent on the matter. For now, Beahm’s exit from Twitch remains one of the streaming community’s biggest mysteries. – JS
The Depp-osition
In the #MeToo era, it is still incredibly rare for powerful men to be held accountable for the abuse of their power, but there are signs that this is beginning to change. The November announcement that Johnny Depp had been asked to resign from the Fantastic Beasts series was one of those signs. The announcement, via Depp’s Instagram, came only days after a U.K. court ruled that British tabloid The Sun was not committing libel when they described Depp as “a wife-beater” in 2018.
While the decision by Warner Bros. to fire Depp is an important step forward, it could still be described as a baby one. Depp will still be getting his full $16 million salary for his Fantastic Beasts 3 role, even though Mads Mikkelsen has been recast in the role of Grindelwald, because there was no morality clause in his contract. (It should be noted that Depp’s contract for the third film was finalized well after allegations against Depp first came to light.) Following the announcement, Amber Heard, Depp’s ex-wife and the survivor in this “wife-beater” scenario, has had to face a wave of online harassment that includes a petition to have her fired from her role as Mera in the DCEU.
The whole thing demonstrates just how ill-equipped Hollywood is as an industry and we as a culture still are when it comes to dealing with abuse. Let’s hope, in 2021, we do better when it comes to holding alleged abusers accountable and supporting survivors. – KB
The Last of Us Part II Leaks
Arguably the most highly anticipated game of 2020 (and our Game of the Year), The Last of Us Part II faced a mountain of seemingly insurmountable expectations. Could Naughty Dog not only follow up one of the greatest games ever made but top itself? Many fans learned the answer much sooner than expected when the game leaked weeks before its release in June.
Despite rumors that the leak was the work of a disgruntled employee, the security breach actually turned out to be courtesy of a hacker, who published most of the game’s cinematics and story beats on the internet for all to find. All of its big twists, reveals, and emotional moments lay bare before we were really ready for them. – JS
Marie Javins Becomes Editor in Chief of DC Comics
After a year of massive changes at DC Comics – which saw long-tenured co-publisher Dan Didio fired, a new new comic book day established through new distributors, and a merger with AT&T bear bitter fruit – DC’s year started to turn itself around when they pulled off the only successful online convention with FanDome.
And hot on FanDome’s heels was the historic announcement of their new EIC: Marie Javins, a longtime comics pro who worked her way up from colorist to become the first woman to serve as DC’s Editor-in-Chief since Jenette Kahn. Javins’ keen eye for talent and long history in the industry inspired a good deal of confidence in DC’s future, and the new talent lined up for DC’s Future State initiative and beyond have only reinforced that. – JD
George R.R. Martin Jailed in Theory
George R.R. Martin’s self-imposed deadline for finishing The Winds of Winter passed in July, and with it came the knowledge that he could now be jailed for his lackadaisical approach to completing the long-in-gestation addition to the A Song of Ice and Fire series. See, ol’ George had previously told Game of Thrones fans that they had “formal written permission” to imprison him “in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid” until he was done writing, should he not produce his manuscript by July 29. A little bit of fun was had online that day, as people threatened to frogmarch Martin straight to jail. We were pretty desperate for something to do at that point, tbf. – KH
Cyberpunk 2077 Is a Disaster
CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 went from one of the year’s most anticipated games to a title that had fans genuinely begging for refunds when it was finally released in December, after they discovered it was virtually unplayable on PS4 and Xbox One, riddled with occasionally hilarious bugs, missing big features, and packed with potentially offensive characterizations and broken AI, leading to an online meltdown from gamers that didn’t even really compare to the similar release troubles of titles like Anthem and No Man’s Sky. What a mess.
Whole game is going to be a meme.

Chris Evans Posts His Dick
If you’ve ever accidentally posted something online that you definitely didn’t mean to post online, you’ll know the pure, heart stopping panic that Chris Evans must have felt in September when he shared a screen-recorded video to Instagram that he’d forgotten to crop, revealing his personal camera roll. Yes, the Avengers: Endgame actor had indeed just shown a rabid fan base his (surprisingly thick) cock, and there was no going back, because so many people took a screenshot at once that the collective noise probably triggered a spike in seismic activity visible on the Richter scale.
Evans removed the video and likely cringed so hard that he collapsed in on himself like a dying star forming a black hole, but took it on the chin and used his eventual response to encourage people to vote in November’s election. – KH

Rick Moranis Attacked
Ghostbusters and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids star Rick Moranis – by all accounts a total sweetheart – was randomly attacked near Central Park at the start of October. The formerly-retired actor was punched in the head and knocked to the ground by a man wearing an “I Love NY” hoodie who was later apprehended and charged. Violence on the streets of New York isn’t exactly unheard of, but when the geek community heard of the attack on Moranis, it went full on Taken in under a minute. “I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.” How DARE. – KH
John Boyega’s Black Lives Matter Speech
On May 25th, George Floyd, a 46-year-old Black father, grandfather, son, and brother—a human—was killed by Derek Chauvin, a white member of the Minneapolis Police Department, as three other policemen stood by. Chauvin kneeled on Floyd’s neck for 9.5 minutes as Floyd begged, “I can’t breathe.” The video of the killing launched a wave of Black Lives Matters protests across the United States and world, aimed at eradicating white supremacy in all of its forms.
George Floyd was neither the first nor the last Black person who died at the hands of a police officer in 2020. (Say Their Names is an ongoing, work-in-progress list of all the Black men, women, and children killed in the U.S. by police and civilians.) And there is not just one moment or human that has defined the ongoing Black Lives Matters movement in 2020, which is made up of many people, including the many activists who organize within the decentralized movement. One of many moments, however, came when John Boyega took up the megaphone to give an impromptu and emotional speech during a Hyde Park demonstration about the death of George Floyd in early June.
“Black lives have always mattered. We have always been important. We have always meant something. We have always succeeded regardless. And now is the time. I ain’t waiting,” said the British-Nigerian actor and producer, who was visibly holding back tears, to the other protestors gathered.
Boyega has continued to use his celebrity to speak out against racism in the industry and beyond, all while knowing that it could affect his career. In September, Boyega did an interview with GQ in which he spoke about the unequal narrative treatment he and other actors of color got in the Star Wars franchise compared to the white actors in the film.
“You get yourself involved in projects and you’re not necessarily going to like everything,” Boyega said. “[But] what I would say to Disney is do not bring out a Black character, market them to be much more important in the franchise than they are, and then have them pushed to the side. It’s not good. I’ll say it straight up … You knew what to do with these other people, but when it came to Kelly Marie Tran, when it came to John Boyega, you know fuck all.” – KB
Quibi? I Hardly Knew Ye
“Is it better to burn out than fade away?” could have been a question knocking about in the heads of Quibi’s founders during 2020. The newbie streaming service, which developed content as “quick bites” consumable in 7-10 minute increments, ended up being a flash in the pan as it struggled to rustle up subscribers in a year very much not suited to the concept of “I don’t have time to watch anything”.
Quibi had initially raised $1.75 billion in pre-launch funding and had more than 175 shows and movies lined up for viewers, but none of it was enough to counter the madness playing out behind the scenes of the hopeful, and ultimately hopeless, platform. RIP to a real one. – KH
Whedon Under Fire
It’s safe to say that the one-time King of the Nerds has not had a pleasant last few years, and that’s even before COVID-19 struck. But much of Joss Whedon’s troubles seem increasingly to be of his own making. As if the disapproving response to his version of Justice League wasn’t enough, Whedon was accused by actor Ray Fisher (Cyborg) of fomenting racism and toxicity on the set – a claim indirectly backed up by co-stars Jason Momoa and Gal Gadot.
The fallout, true or not, seems to have landed close enough for Whedon to depart his upcoming HBO fantasy series The Nevers, a project he created but won’t see through to its launch after three years of work. The Whedon-produced Pippa Smith: Grown-Up Detective was also quietly scrapped at Freeform. – DK

Patty’s Squad
At the moment, the future of Star Wars would seem to be on television. The success of The Mandalorian and the galaxy of spinoffs (more on those in a moment) announced by Disney and Lucasfilm would seem to indicate that. But Star Wars is far from finished on the big screen, and when it returns in 2023, it’s going to make history, with Patty Jenkins finally shattering the glass ceiling of Star Wars directors with her take on the fan favorite Rogue Squadron concept.
Jenkins is, of course, no stranger to big franchise projects, having helmed both Wonder Woman movies for Warner Bros. The announcement of a coveted director taking on a big franchise competitor coming in the wake of WB’s troubled relationship with talent after sending their entire theatrical slate to HBO Max for 2021 sure feels like a victory for Disney, even as Jenkins is still confirmed to direct a third Wonder Woman film for WB. Regardless of studio politics, Jenkins promising to deliver “the greatest fighter pilot movie of all time,” albeit one set in the Star Wars galaxy is a wonderful promise, and we’re looking forward to seeing how she keeps it. – MC
Disney Goes Even More Franchise Crazy
Disney’s December investors call didn’t produce the kind of announcements expected – there were rumors that a global 18+ streaming element was in the wind and that Black Widow would go straight to Disney+ – but the Mouse House tried to make up for it by revealing a fistful of new projects that included ten (10!) new Star Wars series, a bunch of new Marvel series and movies, a Toy Story spinoff film called Lightyear and a sequel to Enchanted. That’s not even the half of it, though, as the reveals just kept on coming, to the point where even a dedicated Disney fan felt downright exhausted, and prompting many a “how much is too much?” think piece. – KH

Chris Wilder spoke to Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday about extending Dean Henderson’s loan at the club until the end of this season and talks have also begun on the goalkeeper’s longer-term future.
Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has confirmed initial talks have taken place over bringing goalkeeper Dean Henderson back next season.
Henderson has spent the past two seasons on loan as No 1 at Sheffield United, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says the 23-year-old has “proved” he will go on to become first-choice goalkeeper for Manchester United.
During an online news conference ahead of the Premier League’s return on Wednesday, Wilder said he expected to finalise an agreement to keep Henderson until the end of this season, but is hopeful of working on a separate longer-term deal.

Asked whether he had been in touch with Manchester United over keeping Henderson until the end of the current campaign, Wilder said: “There has been, there always is. Not every conversation is put out to the media.
“I spoke to Ole yesterday [Sunday] morning and I thanked him for his cooperation with Dean. We’re in the process, in the next couple of days, of finalising Dean staying with us until the end of the season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expects Henderson to be No 1 at Old Trafford in the future
“I’ve got to say, the manager [Solskjaer] was brilliant and has been always with me and our football club. He was very pro Dean staying and delighted in terms of what Dean has produced for us and what we’ve done for Dean.”
On Henderson’s future beyond this season, Wilder added: “We’ve had initial conversations. We would be open to Dean coming back but I’ve got huge respect for Manchester United and he’s their player and they’ll make that decision, in conjunction with Dean.
“From our point of view, obviously if there is an opportunity, we’d love to take that up.”
Chris Wilder says his Blades players are in ‘brilliant condition’ ahead of the Premier League’s restart
Wilder hopeful of rebuilding momentum
The Premier League’s three-month suspension may have come at a bad time for Sheffield United, who are unbeaten in their last six matches in all competitions.
The Blades face a tough run-in on paper, with four of the top six still to play, but Wilder says his players are well prepared for the restart.
Sheffield United travel to Villa Park in the first live game of the restart on Wednesday, June 17 (6pm kick-off), live on Sky Sports.
Sheffield United can climb to fifth with a win at Aston Villa on Wednesday
“We’ve done as much as we possibly could have done to give us the best opportunity of producing a decent performance, but I’ll only know at 6pm when that ball gets rolling at Villa Park,” said Wilder.
“All the players have come back in brilliant condition but you never know where the levels are between all the clubs.

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith says his players are ‘itching’ to get going on Wednesday when they face Sheffield United, live on Sky Sports, in the first Premier League game for three months.
Aston Villa boss Dean Smith says his players are ‘itching’ to get going on Wednesday when they face Sheffield United, live on Sky Sports, in the first Premier League game for three months.
“Tactically, we won’t lose too much in terms of how we play. The majority of teams will be the same. From the physical aspect, where you are going to be is going to be the key element.
“We did have momentum and we were on a great run. Everybody has their own situations, with injuries and form, and sometimes the break comes at the right time.
“That will be a question for Dean [Smith] as well as me. I’m sure Dean would say it was a great time because he gets players back fit, regroup and kick-start their season.
“It’s a brilliant club, I have an awful amount of time for Dean and what he’s done. It would always have been a really difficult game and it still is, so nothing really changes.”
