i like the version of ivypool mourning bristlefrost that i made up in my head where ivypool has never formed a close relationship with any of her children. and then her daughter double dies & she realizes with horror that she never actually knew her. she didnt know bristlefrost, not really, just knows that shes supposed to love and cherish her because shes her daughter. bristlefrost dies & she thinks: really, just like that? just like that and shes gone? i took too long? do i even care in the way that i should? do i even feel sad for the right reasons? whats worse is she knows that if bristle had lived, ivypool wouldnt have suddenly become better. whats worse is that she doesnt take the opportunity to connect deeper with her loved ones & make the most of her time with them, she has a complete existential breakdown and drives everyone she has left away.
