while it is most commonly taught-- and indeed, for most spellcasters, easiest-- to cast spells by strongly visualizing the desired outcome, melliwyk has always found it much easier to picture The Weave itself, her hands twisting into its threads to directly manipulate its effects upon the material plane and direct the magic from its source. consequently many of her somatic gestures are evocative of twisting, grasping, or breaking strings, her fingers splaying through the air as if through a complex cat's cradle
#a lot of spells more commonly are performed with somatic components that symbolically evoke that spell's effects#but even when it IS helpful or necessary to do that with a particular spell she still usually does so in a bit of a 'pulling strings' way#she doesn't prefer to perform somatic components with her wand partly for this reason;#when it can be helped she'd rather gesture with her free hand and use her wand mostly to direct the flow of energy#this was also a contributing factor in her ability to independently invent artificing as a player class/ spellcasting technique#and her ability to pick up a metamagic feat and the telekinesis feat#she's visualizing and feeling working directly with The Weave itself so she has a much more intuitive sense for how to manipulate it#including in weird ways that wouldn't necessarily come naturally to most wizards and may or may not even be possible for them to learn#my OCs#melliwyk
