Hi! Thought I'd put together an intro post that's mobile-friendly.

I'm V and this is my personal. I spend a lot of my free time watching and reading stuff, hence this being mainly a fandom blog. I also like languages.

I'm really into Utena, Chihayafuru, ROTE and The Bear at the moment, so you might see me being intense about those.

Extremely late post this time, I know, but life gets in the way sometimes. Had a billion eps to watch and then the new ones that started/or returned that week too. At least they should be on time from now on, or at least only a day late like I had mentioned before

Princession Orchestra Ep1 - 2

Well, I decided to watch this because of the very obvious comparisons to Symphogear. Which I haven't watched and yes I know I should and I know that I'd love it, trust me, if anyone knows all that is me Maybe I went in with my expectations being too high because of that, but I thought that first episode was pretty weak. At least the music was good so they at least got that right. The thing that disappointed me the most was the super lackluster transformation. It's a magical girl show, that's a stock animation that you're gonna reuse a billion times, the least you can do is make it actually look good. But anyway, despite my complaints I will keep watching it for sure, it's gonna be 4 whole cours so they got plenty of time to cook EP2 Edit: I complained about the transformation above, but they actually had a full AND actually good transformation, that they decided to not use on the first ep???? Extremely weird choice and gives a poor first impression, as you can see from what I said lmao. The build up for the finisher move looked great too, tho I wish that impact was different. It just piercing the monster and that's it is very lame. It should've sent it flying along with the beam before exploding or have the monster struggle against it before getting pierced but oh well. Anyway, good second ep. Now that they got the OP, ED and both princess songs tl'd and typeset I hope that future eps won't take as long to come out like these

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Ep1

Hey that was pretty good. I never got around to reading it but I only ever heard good things about it. I wasn't expecting much since it is bones, yes, but not the main team but they did great. The use of comic book text for SFX and the such was a nice detail and the OP was great too. This ep did a great job introducing the main charas, who are all likeable, and a good hook for the main plot. The cameos from All Might, Aizawa in the ep and others in the OP were nice too I'm not sure if they'll do more seasons, since they can't adapat the whole manga in 13 eps, so I'd like to read it eventually too

Mobile Suit Gundam: GQuuuuuuX Ep1

Hey look, it's baby's first Gundam! I never did end up watching GWitch for... whatever reason it was, I don't remember anymore This was a great first ep tho. The take designs together with the stylish direction helped maked it stand out a great deal. Of course, I won't complain about the yuri vibes either lol. Oh also, it was funny seeing terms I've seen around for over 10 years like Mav and Newtype getting used. Also also, the ED is an absolute banger, I can easily see why it was popping off so much on socials. Can see it be the ED of the season easily Anyway, I'm looking forward to this intro to the franchise. I've thought about going back and watch other series but it's such a big commitment I simply haven't done it. I know this is supposed to be it's own standalone thing so we'll see how it goes

A Ninja and an Assassin Under One Roof Ep1

I started watching this show cause I saw the preview for it a little before the season started and it looked cute and gay. It turns out it was very cute indeed, with some yuri crumbs as well. I also didn't even know it was shaft right until I was about to start it and opened MAL lmao. You could easily see a lot of the signature style through the episode That was a great first ep. The style is very cute and the animation is what you'd expect from a show like this, tho they threw a little sakuga in there to spice things up. Both the OP and ED are great as well. Glad this one didn't slip under my radar, I'll certainly enjoy it a lot

mono Ep1

A great first ep as expected. After all, afro doesn't miss, I knew I could trust them. I don't have much else to add to this tbh. It's a great CGDCT anime, the cast is likeable, the voices are good, the style is cute and the animation is fitting as well. Definitely a must watch for Yuru Camp fans

Food for the Soul Ep1

As soon as I saw "PA Works" and "Adult Cast" I knew I had to be here Sadly it wasn't as adult as some of their other series. They ARE adults, by virtue of all being college students, but if you told me these girls were in any other year of school I'd believe it. Still, regardless of that nitpick it was a good first ep. It had the PA polish you'd expected, the animation was nothing fancy but fit the type of show it is and the voices were very good. Very funny that the MC is super awkward but the loud extrovert friend is the one voiced by Bocchi

Pokemon Horizons Ep90-91

I said before, but I really didn't expect the story to continue after reaching the climax of the storyline that was going on from ep1. I was skeptical from the material they released leading up to the start of this new arc, since they didn't do a great job of explaining it, but after watching these eps I see what they're going for and I got back some trust. The new kid is kinda annoying but I hope he'll get better later

I hate to be pretentious but the most beautiful love song I've ever heard is Standard Bitter Love Song #5, an unreleased TMG song that was only performed once in 1992 [link to the song]

It makes me think of the way I loved my wife when she was still alive. The way I always will, except the song is pure joy, no longing.

OP I see your Old College Try and raise you International Small Arms Traffic Blues off of the same album. It's a pet favorite of mine. I'm from Asia, so geographic and historical references outside of the US in TMG songs always really excite me to hear. Like, "cool, John knows the rest of us exist." I love comparing the Alpha Couple's relationship to the border between Greece and Albania, fraught, yet intertwined and there's nothing that can be done about it.

I've always wanted a TMG tattoo. I've considered just getting "Matthew 25:21" because A. it would be funny because people would think it was a Bible reference when I'm not a Christian; and B. because I've been unable to be normal about the lyric "you were a presence full of light upon this earth, and I am a witness to your life and to its worth" since my wife died, which would be the reason I'd want it anyway.

Mobile for when you're begging God to kill you. Autoclave for when you' know you aren't worth loving. Steal Smoked Fish or TG&Y for "life sucks but I'm going to keep wasting oxygen." Balance for an impending sense of doom and not being able to fix it.

6. I want to get into TMG, where should I start?

I started my partner with All Hail West Texas because it is personally my favorite album. I think he liked it! He doesn't listen to music much. And nobody else has listened to TMG because I told them to, so I don't have a large sample size, but AHWT is a good intro.

If you like the lo-fi vibe, work backwards. If you didn't love it, go to Tallahassee and work forwards.

7. What was everyone's first introduction to tmg?

In 2002 I was living in Seoul, South Korea. My late wife and I were from Daegu, a city further south. Our apartment building had several American English teachers living in it and I had recently gotten brave enough to befriend them to practice my English. My wife and I were at our friend Henry's apartment when at some point he put on his cassette of Nine Black Poppies. Something about the frantic guitar strumming in Cubs In Five caught my attention and I liked that the songs were wordy but you could clearly hear what he was saying-- I thought listening to the band more would be a fun challenge to improve my English.

22 years later and they're my favorite band.

My brother suggested my partner, who is technologically challenged, buy tickets for me to see them in Bristol earlier this year and I got to take my son. I don't think he likes TMG that much but he knows them because of me, so he had a good time.

8. Any words or phrases you first learned from a TMG song?

Another 5 episodes, another update.

I'm still translating the end credits messages as I go, but they're all just jokes and/or references to the episode, so I'm not going to go back to find them again to retranslate them for this post. But even if the content of the messages isn't interesting, the form is.

Starting with episode 14 they unexpectedly switched the messages from being a reverse alphabet "atbash" cipher to a number code. It's just a simple "count to this number of the alphabet" substitution, but it's strange to me that they didn't announce the change ahead of time like they did when they started using the atbash cipher.

That number code got me thinking about the number code on the dollar bill, since I'd tried a similar approach, so I tried taking another crack at that. That code, broken up in sets of two, is 02 39 54 86 04, which just translates to bmbhd. Then I thought to use the ceaser and atbash ciphers on the numbers before translating them to letters. Moving each digit three places backwards makes it 79 06 21 53 71, which translates to afuas, and swapping the placement of numbers gives either 97 60 45 13 95 (shsmq) or 19 82 67 35 17 (sdoiq) depending on whether you use 0123456789 or 1234567890. Again, that's nothing. I'm starting to think that's just a random string of code. Also I'm just now realizing that it does work as a phone number, but the area code is for Southampton England, and it's currently a quarter past midnight in Southampton, so I'm not going to call the number.

If you direct your attention back up to the screencap above, you might also notice that the design on Stan's hat has changed. Before it was more of a crescent moon shape, which I'd been referring to as a lobster claw because it reminded me of Lobster Johnson from Hellboy (btw, off topic but I recently saw somebody call Hellboy "American Beserk" which honestly tracks). But starting in episode 14, when they change ciphers, the design changed to be more Pacman-like. This new design resembles a fish eating something, which could represent taking the bait. I'm unclear on the implications of that change right now, but I also noticed that they change the design in the intro but not on the wheel of symbols around Bill Cipher at the end.

I also first noticed this rock in the gift shop during episode eleven, and then several more times since then. Unlike the carvings Dipper examines in the intro, these seem to mostly be actual Elder Futhark runes. The symbol on top is mannaz (M), the one on the left in the middle row is thurs/thorn (th), the one on the bottom left is othala/odal (O), and the one on the bottom right is laguz/laukas (L). The one that looks like a backwards N isn't a rune, but it could be a backwards hagalaz (H) or a very off kilter wonky-looking sowilo (S). I tried messing around with the various ciphers the show's used, both before and after transliterating the runes into English, but got nothing. I'm considering this more decoration until further evidence arises.

My last observation for this update is what "Stan" is supposed to be short for. In Summerween we see that the vanity license plate on the front of Stan's car says "StnlyMbl" which presumably translates to Stanley-mobile. That would make sense if his name was Stanley, but I've noticed that several times Lil Gideon has called him Stanford, and I can't find any specific instances but I feel like other characters have called him that before. If it is just something Gideon calls him then it could be a joke or a dig at Stan by incorrectly elongating his name.

But if other people do call him Stanford, then that might play into the "This Stan is a clone that has replaced the real Stan" theory I've been developing, where the real Stan's name is Stanley and after this Stan replaced him and stole his car he changed his name to Stanford. Or possibly the other way around, where Stanley the clone got vanity license plates for the car when he replaced Stanford the human. Those are both pretty weak theories for now though, so I'm still leaning towards his name just being Stanley and Gideon is just messing with him.

I've decided to watch Gravity Falls, and I want to see if I can figure out the various mysteries without looking up any answers. I'm going to catalog my efforts to do that here on tumblr.

Going into this I've only seen two episodes back in like 2013 (the pilot and one where there's a pig) but I'm not totally in the dark about the show because there's a few things I've gleaned from cultural osmosis on tumblr. Namely, the bad guy is a pyramid man named Bill Cypher and also Grunkle Stan either has a twin or a clone, I'm unclear which.

I'm currently two episodes in and I've already discovered and cracked one secret code, and am keeping my eye on a couple other things. During the credits of episode one I noticed a string of garbage text, pictured below

Knowing this show's reputations I figured this might be a coded message, probably either a substitution or transposition cipher (since this was a code meant for children and those are "Baby's first cryptography" material). I put it in an anagram finder and got back 48 results that all contained the word "fjord" but none seemed like an actual message, so it probably wasn't a transposition cipher.

If it was a substitution cypher then there were three options that seemed the most likely to me. It was either a shifted alphabet (each letter in the message is shifted a certain amount up or down the alphabet, so A becomes B becomes C, or A becomes C and B becomes D, et cetera), a reverse alphabet (every letter is mirrored back to front, so ABC becomes ZYX) or a keyed alphabet (where every letter's replacement is randomly determined by a secret key).

If it was a keyed alphabet then I was out of luck for now, I would have to wait until either they reveal the key or I collected enough messages to brute force it. I tried a reverse alphabet first but it was still garbage text. So it was down to being one of 25 different shifted alphabet keys (unless it was multiple codes, like a reverse alphabet and a transposition, but I'd finish dealing with single codes first).

I could have tried each of the 25 possible shifts first, but that's a lot of work, so instead I focused on the two letter word. One of those two letters has to be a vowel, and there's only six vowels so that means 12 possible options. Only two of the options were real words. Shifting back two letters turned "wr" into "up" but the rest of the message was nonsense. Shifting it back three letters turned "wr" into "to," and applying that to the whole message made it read "Welcome to Gravity Falls."

With that code cracked, I moved on to episode 2. I hadn't paid much attention to the intro during the first episode but this time I paid closer attention, and noticed a few things (and then went back and confirmed they were the same in the first episode's intro).

In Dipper's title card there's some symbols on the wall that look like runes, but the only real rune is the third symbol. The others don't seem to appear in any actual runic or pseudo-runic alphabets I can find online. I'm going to be writing this off as purely decorative for now, but I'll keep an eye out in case these keep popping up as a symbolic alphabet, like the alien alphabet from Futurama.

At the very end of the intro this pops up for a split second. That guy in the middle is Bill Cypher, I already know he turns up later. I recognize several of the symbols surrounding him as being from the show. The shooting star is on Mabel's sweater, the handprint is on the cover of the book, the tree is on Dipper's hat, the lobster claw is on Grunkle Stan's hat, and the question mark is on Soos' shirt.

To the right there's a string of text which, when translated using the same alphabet shift code from above, reads "Stan is not what he seems." It also has the Konami code, which I'm just taking as an easter egg.

On the left there's a few possible number codes. In red it looks like something in binary but it's doesn't actually mean anything in binary. But if you convert it to morse code it could be either "sror" or "oksk." Using the same -3 shift, "sror" becomes "polo," which means nothing for now. Reverse alphabet shifting does nothing, I used an online tool to test every other alphabet shift but nothing came up. I don't even know where to begin working on the other two possible number codes.

The credits for the second episode had another hidden message. Using the -3 shift, it becomes "Next week: return to Butt Island."

3 Questions- I don't think Cinder's true color is Red. If you agree what do you think her true color actually is? I haven't read your fic yet but does Distance address Cinder stabbing Weiss or do those two have some sort of talk? and finally have you ever given any thought to what Mommy Cinder would look like taking care of her kids?

Hi anon!

I have discussed Cinder's colour symbolism a lot on my blog, which you can find most of the posts under this tag here.

In short, I think a warm blue (heart of the flame) and warm purple might end up being her colours based on the brooch she wears. I also think this includes a transition from her metallic symbolism from gold into silver (perhaps chiefly because lunar symbolism is linked to silver, and she's twinned with Ruby). Some quick examples of the lunar symbolism, right is a lunar eclipse (and yes this is done with other characters in the show all the time, it's very clear symbolism):

For that matter, there's half of the moon that fell, on fire, when Ruby 'rose' like the moon (see V6 intro lol):

That transition metallically mirrors Jaune going from lead to gold as well. There's more justification for this (especially with Jungian and alchemical storytelling) but that's the tl;dr of my opinion - you can see degrees of it expanded upon further in my fics, actually.

Red hasn't been 'her' colour since V5, so that's why I think it's worth speculating. Black is the flame at its weakest, blue when it's reiginited. One other anon noticed this too.

The Distance Which Fools the Skimming Eye is an epic romance which involves Cinder's redemption and is interested in what are the things that motivate her and why she does the things that she does. For those two to talk, a lot has to happen - a great deal, in fact.

Though for that matter, I think redemption in storytelling is also profoundly symbolic, so it's not something that's simply solved by a conversation; I think a powerful gesture is just as interesting.

I also specifically set out to not write a story where I had to wade my way through nonsensical redemption discourse and prostrating expected. I would like it to be organic and reflect Cinder's character and not just an idealised 'good' version of her, so it's a little more complicated than at first glance. More interesting to write, too.

I'm not sure I'd frame this the way that you are framing it. But yes, I've given it a lot of thought. I do think that a character symbolically steeped in chthonic themes then being capable of something transformative/rebirthing is meaningful. And having a family when she never had one.

I have encountered some people who want to see her turned into a humbled, shamed, and well-behaved woman who does her domestic duty, and I'm not in that corner. I find that attitude offensive to the point it makes me laugh, and disrespectful to her character and how interesting she is.

There's obviously some middle-ground there, and that's the point of marrying opposites.

So a quick question I have for you. (May not have a short answer) But what do you think Gula's personality to be like? What kind of strengths and weaknesses does he have? Beyond the obvious he's logical and reserved and clever, more in-depth traits that make his character fuller and more like a real person. I'd like to hear some of your deep analysation if you don't mind.

This has take long enough and I want to post it now. [Will edit this maybe later bur now I finish the visuals lets get down to this]

Oh boy

You call it

Everybody prepare bc this may have take me awhile but be ready for my analysis at some level of him.

Warning: this is kind of my personal view of all and may sound weird at some level but I am trying to make sense to all of them (Foretellers in general). I elaborate this in my way to plan some fanfics and to do so i kind of take my time on try to analyse what I had.

You may want to go straight to Conclusions but I point out too circular thoughts at the beginning just for the sake of think of this a bit more

Analysis of Gula:

Cold headed and one of the most clever and quick to catch up stuff that may be happening. He is between the Master of Masters apprentices one of the youngest and has a special friendship develop with Ava, the youngest between all as it seems.

This is the basic we know and I want to put as a base for what I will dive at some point and ramificate to them all in a light way just to reference a bit.

Observations:

Out of my obserbations between one of the strongest things the Master’s apprentices share is their faith that the Master is right.

Back on the scene where Ira confronts them and they acknowledge a nightmare roaming the scene cuts to a flashback which different from the present it has a warm and familiar vive. The Master hold them together, they would laugh and be somehow unite, but the present just will reveal how little they may actually know each other, most of them.

The fact that Ira doubts who to point as most of the other and the rest of the movie with the exception of the bond between Gula and Ava.

Why I point this? This is something special, Gula doesn’t seem to be close to anyone except Ava. He trusts her almost to a degree as his faith for the Master but on a friend to friend way, enough to reveal her and talk about his role completely and openly on his weakest moment .

+ He can care under his masks

Gula didn’t really like his role tha much I think. He didn’t even want the Master to disappear the way he did. But let me add my point on how he came to the conclusion he just wanted things to be the way they were before by summoning KH.

He seems to be usually quick to find a solution or reasoning with whatever he has in front of him but as time passes and he hasn’t been able to succeed as any other task he may have been previously assigned. Even with his best he may have feel the stress of all falling down as I guess, every passing day and thing going worse is clear sing that he hasn’t fuli hir role as his own expectatives. He only show his weak side on the moment he feels can’t deal with it alone after months.

+ Stress if you allow me to say.

It may be me but his minimum expressions show that he didn’t like the whole “Trust no one but yourself”. He may have let it pass about Invi, Ira and Aced but the fact it include Ava may throw him off been one of the closes person he had aside the Master. He wanted to trust her and he did, even if he constantly try to remind himself his Master words.

When he got lost and no more choices left for him to take on his mind there was the last plan: Summon Kingdom Hearts may lure the Master back, right? He would not let them fall intro such foolish actions, right? or so I think may be what pass through his mind or some nature of that. To everything fall since he in no able to fulfill his role.

+ Pressure which equals at rushed actions.

He may be one of the most precise and calculative between the 6 but, he at the end even if he is the genius one he does make mistakes. Like maybe talk a bit too much into the detail sometimes, he is young so understandable he rushes a bit too much sometimes, some few times really. When he slip the fact that Invi talk him into leaving Aced’s alliance he cover any mistake fluently and so naturally that I think he may know how to handle when he wants to clear stuff is he kind of messes up at this point but he could also play the facts though if you pay attention you can tell when he say something he didn’t need to on the moment. He sure knows how to keep an act if is need.

+ Effectiveness though minor struggles on the way

Gula is a boy who keep closed to others if people don’t try much to reach to him as I guess. Ava and the master seem the type to like to know the others but I think Ira, Invi, and Aced been young adults dealing with whatever is their duty they may have let pass the young one if he wanted to approach them or not, they would not mind. My faint guess is that he doesn’t show much of his true self to other and keep the cold headed manner since is what he may feel is expect to him and may be easier than show vulnerability of his own thinking and feeling at personal level, he may show it sometimes to the Master but I guess not that much since he may want to be probe at the others level been one of the youngest.

While I feel Ava been the most reachable one may have reach to him and with time build this friendship bond they have. The only scene I saw Gula drop his ‘mask’ was when He sincere to Ava and how he feel, how pointless his role seem or how much of almost a failure he got to be in a subtle way, he could no more and share with her what has been burdening him. But she could not help him because it go against her moral, he respect that and tae his mask up and wish for her the only thing the others didn’t say to him.

+ A mask over other mask

A/N: personally at this point I am sobbing a bit inside ; ;

But even after all, even if she turn him down, she is still his friend.

So i will touch the mobile game since I doubt their last conversation was that but his will be a bit more lighter so we can reach my conclusion. I can just assume a bit here and arrange facts but maybe is me trying to understand him.

After that on Back Cover I believe that wasn’t their final talk and may had another talk before the war but at this point I assume a pre-stress state creeping on them.

Gula may have go off with his plan but I don’t think he remember he badly even after that. He keep his believes strong towards his plans which I personally feel may be his attempt of ‘desperate try’ to get the Master to come back to all of them.

He may feel he can’t do anything about the end at this point.

In this moment on the timeline I assume pretty much each foreteller has fall in osme hole of pre-stress with the Keyblade War already on their heads. Which I assume took the drastic change I perceive on the story previously and at the war. Al is ending and I am not an expert but is the only thing I could think. Kids weren’t acting as kids too at this point in some cases because they were as well exposed to this opriment part of their story, fights between wielder became frequently and so all fall apart till it reach its end.

And the reborn.

He did try to wear his mask till the end and he did.

But it wasn’t over there as you know from the Epilogue on the Dark Seeker Saga. So let me one last time before reach the conclusions, there is so few left from me repeating stuff like crazy and to the best resume I can give and is more simple but I want to point this out before dive into it.

He got back to life, but even so you all hear him ask Luxu a reason why would he not include Ava. The bond of this two is a special thing I think the Master didn’t mind but will always be something to the matter, because they care about each other and if Ava’s out I have high expectation for him to want to know what become of her.

Hear me right here, the Master may still be important to them but Gula was expecting the Master to appear, maybe a childish thing that he would save them all because he was always hold in high regard by all of them but I think his faith may be starting to shake on a slightly not solid ground. Ava didn’t help him bug did give her an answer and even so is still his friend as so he to her.

Friendship has proved to be a factor that can get you to change views or who you choose to ally so I suppose he may play along but may not let this down, still this is a faint though with all going and and I first write most of the important remarks for this before this semi rambling part, sorry about that.

Conclusions:

Gula is a teenager that has got big responsibilities, may wear a mask ver the real one with his cool headed demeanor. tuns down companionship but if you get to actually know him you may notice this is just one side of his personality.

Weighted with the responsibility to stop an inevitable betrayal, and torn between his master’s orders and the believe one of the few he trusted till he could not longer wanted to do it all alone. shows weakness and vulnerability only with the ones he trusts and can keep appreciating said trusted people even if they are not up to help him on the moment. Loyal to some degrees.

Slips and messes up but tries to keep the control of the situation even so, flexible as the situation calls. but will always to be reasonable unless he is really into do a thing on his way, so kind of stubborn I will say.

Sassy when it calls and also probably honest s needed, a mechanism to comebacks or protection maybe but mostly used to handle situations.

May have his reasons to be so close and reserved. Life is not always fair you may guess.

At the end he is just a kid would may have been happy with the few he had before all this mess start to fall down and deserve a better guidance on social skills. He means no bad but truly would be more understood if there could have been time to work with his reserved ways and mistrust to the world in general out of his closed circle of people he trusted.

He is clever but still just a kid handed down a responsibility of something bigger than him.

He as the other may have get this to work if they have know at some good portion each other and had a light weight of trust. But that wasn’t the case this time.

He is a piece on this game after all where he still may remain for a while while, or who knows?.

Okey so I finally end this mess, I did some doodles but most of all I wanted to go around this thing I may overthinking and so. i truly love gula for the many ways you can read though him slowly and maybe I can help but wish happiness for him or so I hope, because he as the others deserve a chance to learn many thing out of dutty and be more than just a piece of something that was set to be.

I don’t think he means bad but I wish he could have learn more, maybe if he were to connect with others he would have archive some progress with his way to be, I believe it may had to do with past experience but out of all, I wish i could know more on what he think out of all of been back. If he goes full change of banc I am going to cheer for him and even the other as sobbing, is just maybe that I see him and the other as humans as possible gets me soft but I wish each of them could work on their own issues with the time flow on them and encounters in the future

Geez I suck at this and just may go in circles but I think it maybe was good to remak.
