That’s the closest a compliment Chuck can muster. It’s not his strong suit and he’s not about to admit that. Eyes roll as he pushes himself off the wall and walks over to her. 

“ I remember you in Kuching. Mammoth Apostle, right? ”

“ It’s pilots like you that give this program a bad name. Sacrificing your brother the way you did... No wonder they’re shutting down shatterdomes, Rah-Leh. ” 

He knows a line’s been crossed, but he’s at a point of not caring. He can’t curb his tongue, not when there’s a war going on and this man gave up. He chose to leave, work on the wall as if that actually helps. The Kaiju would just bring it down and then what was he gonna do, build it again? It wasn’t a viable option.

“ You’ll never get anywhere if you don’t actually speak up, or is his leash too tight on you? ” Of course, he’s full of shit. As if he’d ever speak out against Pentecost. Still, he’s watched him put Mako on the sidelines long enough to know that there’s a reason more than just ‘she’s not ready’. What’s he got against her even trying? G-d knows they need more pilots, even if he’s quick to say he can take on all the kaiju himself.

“ You’ve gotten sloppy. ” Is he joking or just being a jerk? It’s hard to tell with Chuck. A smirk tugs at his lips. He leans against he door to the training room, a towel slung over his shoulder. He needs to practice and doing so with his father has gotten predictable. They know too much of each other’s movements. He needs spontaneity, a new challenge. 

“ I could help with that. ”
