there's a type of tumblr funnyperson who's never posted explicit hate/exclusionism towards asexuals and other a-specs... and yet, they like to make up a guy. where the type of guy they always make up undermines any trust a-specs might've otherwise had for them. for example, a common post format is making up a hypothetical tumblr user's bio that's obviously just so cringe, according to the sensibilities of everyone reading — wherein the implied joke is how we've all seen someone in the wild who's cringe like this, right?

these posts always feel the need to slide some a-spec microlabel in there. a lot of the time, it's specifically an ace-spec microlabel plus "heteroromantic," especially if they think that the guy they're making up is trying to be a real special snowflake. to round out the "cringe," they usually pepper in at least one element from the set of: neopronouns, a namedropped mental illness, and a piece of media that's targeted at children/popular for tumblr to hate at the time.

then a zillion people reblog that post, all agreeing haha that's so cringe, and a million a-spec people (and nonbinary and autistic people) shudder — because are they the butt of the joke, to the people reblogging it? or are the people reblogging just laughing about a different element, like a comically long DNI or something, which has distracted them from noticing the fact that OP clearly associates a-spec identities with "cringe"?

if any a-spec people point this out about OP, or ask a reblogger if they support ace people, they are inevitably accused of overreacting — which is great for the aphobes, because they get a new "cringe" a-spec person to point and laugh at. it's just such a nasty cycle, and even people who wouldn't consider themselves aphobes aren't great at noticing and interrogating it.

The way Thymara keeps referring to having sex as "mating" is definitely a conscious choice by Robin Hobb to tell us how Thymara's been socialised to think about sex as only one thing, but gOD it's starting to grate on me

I think this device would work better if the way dragons were written as mirroring the humans in their "mating rituals" wasn't so cis and hetero but it IS. All of the cultures so far (animal, dragon, and human) in ROTE are obsessed with cisheteronormativity and this is presented as normal and natural.

The canon queer characters we see who do get to exist in this world, still exist within gendered stereotypes (Carson and Sedric) or are written has having duplicitous characteristics (Beloved and Hest).

And the female characters who sleep around are either survivors of sexual assualt who become whole by having a child (Althea and Starling), or are represented as irresponsible by our main POV characters (Starling, Jerd).

It's frustrating when the author dives so deep into POVs that when you do get ample space as a reader to draw your own conclusions and counter the narratives of POV characters, your critical readings of their unreliableness as narrators is thwarted by the very rules and themes of the world and stories the author has constructed :')

And not only did she see it. She responded. And turned right around and expressed the creatives' gratitude for all of us. ❤️

And Zack, one of the writers on the show, jumped in on the love-fest.

I am so glad the cast and creatives felt our love this week. Thank you to every single person who participated in DBDA Cast Appreciation Week. Thank you to every single person who continues to support the show in whatever way they can.

They feel our love. And looking at Beth's response, they are grateful to our not-so little fandom for loving what they've made, and for fighting to bring it back.

What we do matters, y'all.

And I'm grateful to our not-so-little fandom. We are welcoming and kind. We are inclusive and encouraging and creative (and by "we being creative", I mean YOU all. I literally said I should delete all social media for a month because it’s ruining my art HOWEVER. consider polly and two, if you will, and how they are always there for each other even when they’re not.

almost immediately after two regenerates, polly accepts him. she’s confused and lost and probably more than a little upset and thrown into a Dalek story which he does little to be clear about, and she accepts him. she entertains his passing interests and urges throughout the story, and she constantly points out to Ben how this must be the Doctor, if only because he’s taken the place of the last one. this new doctor who is wild and intense and tactile and also even more mysterious and confusing than the past one. this doctor who doesn’t even seem to know who he himself is yet. Polly comforts and helps even when she doesn’t really know what has happened; she sees what’s in front of her and works with it.

It’s not seamless, but they get each other. not all the time. but they are there - polly is there, in the most vulnerable moment - when there were not many others to be there for one another. and of course it’s not perfect, but they do click, they do turn to each other, they do work together in ways that ben and jamie learn to (that the s4 team splits into pretty much every pair for various reasons is what makes it so interesting. like Polly and Ben and Jamie and the Doctor have their own relationships and being so so deeply intertwined to the point of like. love parallels if you want. and then ben and jamie serve as the male companions together who tend to get beat up, who don’t always agree but always have each other’s backs, who remind each other where they are, while two and polly are generally more ,,,,, well this is me gender projecting onto two because I want her gender, but they do click like that. and then Polly is Jamie’s reference for his first few adventures in the tardis. meanwhile Ben and the Doctor uh. I’ll think about them more later.) and while of course Jamie does end up being the doctor’s go-to for physical affection, you still see a greater deal of it with Polly and the Doctor that’s not quite present in non-granddaughter figures before. I feel like they care about each other in a “I’ve seen you at your lowest and I don’t really know much else about you but I’ll be here, if you need it,” way which never goes insanely deep because (as I’ve kind of already yapped about on the trans fic but) they also rely on words alongside their brief affection in a way that two and jamie don’t.

anyway. they grow with and on each other. and then you cut to the faceless ones………..while Polly and Ben obviously have been wanting to go home, they aren’t expecting/in control of it when it happens. so they’ll leave, yes, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t leave them with a bitter taste……a hasty goodbye, not enough thought, not enough words. [60s who departure voice] quick. two seconds before the doctor’s urge to adventure takes hold. you have two seconds to summarize what the past year(?) of your life has meant to you…..

….and afterwards, well, how does Polly sit with that? She wants to travel. She wants to keep moving, keep going, never stop. But she also cannot bear thinking of the doctor and everything she was, in a way, forced to leave behind when the choice was brought in front of her so abruptly. she wants to push away her own rejection of that life (and, by association, Ben, if you’re a “do you dream in color” fan……again why that story’s characterizations are golden. ben is everything the tardis was, of course she cannot stay with him. of course she cannot give him up.) but she couldn’t betray herself by ignoring all of it, so she travels. and that really does feel like her carrying two with her in the only ways she can. and the Doctor, well, he carries on living even more true to himself across s5-6, taking more and more bold, interfering steps as he actively chooses to intervene and rescue those in a way the first doctor did not. as he rebels even further from gallifrey and the time lords, as he accepts parts of him he might never understands just as Polly did.

they’re not always together, and they don’t always get it. but they hold onto each other, in their worst of times, or in the best, just that little bit, because they were there for each other, and they’ll always be.

I'm Mildew (he/it 25+), welcome to my RP sideblog for Ghetsis from Pokemon. The blog this one leeches off of is @aelirus I wrote Ghetsis for a while in short-form RP back in 2016, and never in long form despite being super invested in him. So, here's where I'll be doing that. I'm a pretty friendly person, I try to write with and befriend a broad range of people... with exceptions for the usual suspects (don't be a pos and dont be a creep. I'm looking at you, people-who-write-nsfw-with-protags.) I can be shy reaching-out first, and maybe tend to talk too much when I think it's okay. Never worry about annoying me or telling me off, I've dealt with it all and I can establish boundaries if needed/respect others' boundaries. Thanks for reading.

Here are rules that are specific to Ghetsis' blog, as he will be played a bit differently than my Cyrus blog (@aelirus):

While Ghetsis is a very interesting character, he lacks the same amount of depth my other muses have. For this reason, he's going to be used more for the purposes of events and conflicts. Don't expect a lot of growth out of him or character arcs (although not entirely off the table in highly select cases.)

As an addition to that rule, I probably will have lower activity with Ghetsis and simply use him when the need arises. (That being said "lower activity" for me is a mystery. Because I love to talk and write.)

As another addition to the first rule, you can absolutely feel free to use Ghetsis as a set piece for events/conflicts. He is the "biggest bad" there is. Thanks to alternate universe fuckery that I subscribe to, I can even allow him to be defeated in a myriad of ways or timelines. I have one condition with this: "Defeating him" needs to have meaning, and make sense. If I feel like he's being pushed around or being underestimated OOC, I will try to nudge things back in the right direction. If that doesn't work, I'll tell you directly in DMs, and I might lose motivation for the idea altogether. Work with me, please. I would much rather your character have an interesting story to tell.

I should probably put this on my Cyrus blog too, but: Ghetsis is a STRATEGIST. He knows Pokémon battling like no one's business, and using Pokémon in general to get what he wants. I, HOWEVER... I haven't fought a single competitive battle in Pokémon. Have mercy on my soul 🙏 (And because of this, I typically subscribe more to non-game-logic battle sequences. Such as discussing generally what we want to take place, and trusting that both sides will make something fun and interesting come of it.)

Now the more simple/given rules:

GHETSIS IS AN ASSHOLE. Don't expect to change him without a lot of push back, don't expect him to feel bad for something he does to your muse. This in no way reflects how I, the writer, see you or your character. If you want me to dial something back, tell me!

Blog might be suggestive at times, and usually in joking fashion, but anything explicit will not take place here.

Related, but if I follow a blog whose Mun/Writer is under 18 and interacts with mature posts, I will reach out and warn them or block/unfollow depending on what it is.

Non-RP blogs can absolutely follow and interact with me! I'm chill. But please be mindful of interacting with threads that include other roleplayers, as their stance can be different.

When writing with me, don't assume what my muse will do unless previously discussed. AKA: no godmodding.

Don't be too pushy for responses. I'm an adult, I've got typically low motivation, stuff happens. However, if we both really like an idea and neither of us can get through a whole thread in order to pull it off, we can totally chat in DMs about the scenario and bring it to life that way!

Go wild with Asks, have fun. I'll pick and choose what I can and can't/don't want to do, whether because of my motivation or whatever other reason. If I truly have a problem with anything, I'll message or respond with the request to stop.

ever since the thought of robin boarding the astral express instead of sunday crossed my mind i've been mad as fuck

as the one to reject and dissolve the order cult's dream world, this should have been robin's story! not sunday's! it is beyond unfair that she got sidelined so hard and is now just sort of stuck in penacony cleaning up sunday's mess and filling in as the oak family's head representative, which is a role she never wanted. she's a free spirit just like the astral express crew, and she's so goddamn passionate about making a palpable change in reality

the whole conflict was she hates the cage her brother and the order cult designed and doesn't want it imposed on anyone else even if it offers "safety" and "happiness" because nothing is more rewarding than being part of the real world. and then she's put in the stupid cage anyway while sunday slips out to be free

this idea of them switching places - robin giving up her freedom to secure sunday's as a parallel to how he bore the brunt of the cult's abuse and grooming to shield her - doesn't work. not when sunday's wrongdoings amount to reinventing fascism. he would have had to be a far less extreme antagonist for this particular concept to be satisfying. as it is it's like no i don't want robin giving up so much for him are you fucking crazy? i want to see him actually suffer the consequences of his actions, actually. and the fact that the narrative babied him and allowed him to brush everything off onto this stupid "me-but-not-really-me" figure feels gross

there are so many aspects to robin's life that are about confinement. control. etc. and she resists it every time. her fans, her managers, and the paparazzi have such a specific image of who they want her to be in their heads, but she's not afraid to defy that! the pressure weighs on her immensely, and she has experienced the worst the real world has to offer, but she still believes in the good of the universe. she continues to believe that when given a choice, many will choose to do good. and then in comes her brother and the order cult wanting to take that choice away entirely and she's like wait what the fuck, no????? she's the first to break out of the cage when sunday tries to force the "perfect" dream on everyone anyway. and then she leads the way as they all come together to destroy it entirely

like UGH she was set up to become such a powerful and emotional character but it literally all got thrown out in favor of catering to sunday fans as much as possible... to the point of speedrunning his "redemption" arc so they could hurry up and shoehorn him into the astral express crew. whatever role they needed filled for the amphoreus storyline robin could have done the same exact thing, with infinitely more grace. AND they wouldn't have had to write off a bunch of literal fascism before letting her hop onto the train 😭 you can't even begin to understand how frustrating this is for me. oh my god
