"I have a whim that's been sort of nagging at me, Devlin, and could really use your help in making it stop...Would you care to go out to a supernatural club with me and dance for hours on end-ish? Or, is your physical prowess limited to only monster slaying and laying?" Her eyes glitter gold with mischief as she smirks; fangs peeking out as she gets cheeky with him.
"Yes, let's go!"
It didn't take long for Devlin to get ready and head to this supernatural club. He worked hard, trained for hours on end, but if he did not balance it out with partying, then he would live a pretty empty life. He did appreciate how Ellyn assessed him- monster slaying and laying. From the outside, he can see that's how he might seem. He did give off that impression from time to time.
As the music's beat picked up, Devlin was releasing his inhibitions. He remained close to his date, doing just as Ellyn requested: dance. He stayed in rhythm, knowing how to draw a crowd and join him in merriment.
Tumblr media
"You don't know partying, unless you've partied with Dionysus himself," he shared, getting close to her so she can hear over the loud, thumping music.

Ye make our Queen very sad when ye run off to battle instead of staying with her. Aren't ye s'posed to be her guard? Guess she'll have to get another since ye keep abandoning her all the time.
Devlin's heart sank as he listened to the words spoken by the concerned individual. The comment about abandoning the Queen struck a chord within him, causing a wave of panic to wash over his usually stoic demeanor. He quickly scanned the surroundings, hoping to catch sight of Queen Ellyn and hopefully rectify the situation.
His eyes darted across the room until they finally settled on a figure disappearing into the night. It was Queen Ellyn, storming off into the gardens, her face etched with anger and frustration. Devlin's heart raced, realizing the gravity of the situation. He had inadvertently hurt the person he swore to protect.
Without a second thought, Devlin swiftly moved through the corridors, following Ellyn's hurried footsteps. Concern and remorse fueled his steps as he desperately tried to catch up to her. The darkness of the night only added to his sense of urgency.
Finally reaching the gardens, Devlin spotted Ellyn standing near a moonlit fountain, her hands clenched tightly by her side. He approached her cautiously, aware of the impact his absence had caused. With a heavy heart, he spoke.

Dev’s breath caught in his throat when she touched his face. Her fingers were warm despite the cool air, gentle despite the storm between them. And gods, the way she looked at him… like she was still seeing the man he had once tried so hard to bury. Her words undid him more than any blade ever could.
“I was a fool,” he said hoarsely, barely able to get the words out. His voice cracked, but he didn’t look away. “I thought I was doing the right thing by walking away, by letting you go. But all I did was lose the only damn thing in this world- or any world- that ever made me feel whole.”
He leaned into her touch, eyes glassy now as emotion crashed over him in waves. “You were right. You always were. I kept measuring myself against something no one asked me to be. I was so busy trying to be worthy that I forgot love isn’t something earned. It’s something you give. And you gave it to me. Freely. Fiercely. Gods, Ellyn…”
Tumblr media
His hands finally lifted to her waist, pulling her gently, reverently closer. “I love you,” he whispered, his forehead finally resting against hers as his eyes shut tight. “I love you. I always have. And if you’ll have me, I’m done running. Done doubting. I’m yours. Not as a ghost, not as a memory. Now. Always.”
He pulled back just enough to see her face, to memorize it all over again before kissing her. “No more fear. No more excuses. I’m with you, Ellyn. Finally.”
@lady-llewellyn
The Fae Queen hated this almost more than not seeing him for years at a time. And that had very nearly felt like Hell! To go from seeing his smile and feeling his love almost daily to something so stark and intangible--that had been the worst part of telling him to leave last time. It was difficult to channel her anger and grief at the same time; still unable to stop the tears as they fell. She sucked in a breath when he brought up that old argument about 'deserving' her love and it made her swallow the lump in her throat.
"A-and I told you that just being yourself was enough for me, Dev. There was nothing to deserve, you had my love--I gave it to you, freely and as often as you'd let me. Love is not a transaction." Then she noticed how close his lips were to her; how close he was to resting his forehead against her own like he'd done so many times before. She frowned at his confessed fear of ruining her and dragging her down as her chest tightened further.
"Oh, Dev...But, by leaving, you did ruin me--you broke my heart. You were the first person in decades to reach my heart and the only one I wanted to share eternity with. There was no ruining with something so beautiful. You made my days b-better!" Ellyn licked her lips then and sniffles; blinking back more tears. A breathy sigh left her when his voice faltered and he gave her the choice to have him come back.
Her hands framed his face then; thumbs swiping his cheeks as she peered up into his eyes. "You were always enough, Dev darling. To me, your worth was never tied to your skills in battle or as my guard. T'was your heart and soul that ensnared me and made me want to share myself in all aspects...Stop holding yourself back and love me, Dev. Love me as I love you still!" The pleading note is back in her voice at the end there and she searches his gaze for her answer while holding her breath. Her heart dares to hope, but, he needed to prove he meant it to her and had changed enough to at least glimpse himself from her point of view. @pyrokineticwarrior

Devlin chuckled softly at Ellyn's playful boop on his nose, but her words touched a deeper chord within him. The knight needed a moment to compose himself, hoping his dear queen would not judge him too harshly for what he is about to admit.
"I must confess that I am not a poet, nor do I possess the ability to read," he spoke, regretfully. "Throughout my years of training as a warrior, the finer arts of language and literature were not part of the curriculum. I only focused on honing my skills with a sword, learning tactics and strategies to protect those I hold dear."
He paused for a moment, a shadow of self-doubt crossing his features. "Sometimes, I do feel a sense of lacking. To be unable to appreciate the beauty of written words, it makes me really sad."
@lady-llewellyn
The Fae Queen if momentarily confused when he doesn't say anything at all; brows starting to furrow as he reaches out and touches her cheek. It's so gentle and delicate that she sucks in a breath. The way he looks at her doesn't help one bit and if anything makes her heart races for a different reason altogether. Ellyn had struggled a bit to find her footing with Devlin in the beginning. Even as Queen, she felt drawn to him beyond what she should. And so very quickly.
And now? When he manages to utter something beautiful and honest, she's struck still as her chest tightens and emotions surge within. Even that thorn of bitterness in her heart that twists and reminds her that Emrys always end up alone. It sounds like her father's voice if she dwells on it too much. The best she can muster is a blush and shy smile before reaching up to playfully boop his nose.
"Thank you for the compliment. However, I promise you that I'm not using any magic on you...And you, dear Devlin, didn't tell me you were a poet as well as a warrior. I believe that whomever you are meant for as well is going to treasure it and most likely steal you away from my service." Because gods help her if she doesn't diffuse the seriousness with some joke she'll do something utterly foolish and one or both of them is going to end up hurt. @pyrokineticwarrior

 "I... I have to admit that the idea of being your personal guard, your trusted protector, fills me with immense pride. It would be an honor beyond measure to serve you in such a capacity. But when it comes to being your Royal Consort, I... I fear I am not worthy."
He took a deep breath, his gaze flickering away momentarily before returning to meet hers. "Long ago, someone told me that I must know my place, that a warrior like me could never aspire to be anything more than a loyal sword at someone's side. Those words, they've lingered in my mind, shaping my perspective on my own worthiness."
Devlin's voice wavered slightly as he continued, his regret evident. "I apologize if this disappoints you, for I do have deep feelings of love for you, Ellyn. Feelings that I struggle to put into words but I know it's love in the purest sense. You've become the center of my world, but... I am not royalty. I don't exactly know who I am or where I come from."
@lady-llewellyn
Ellyn is more than ready to assure him of what she means when he starts questioning everything. Though hearing him say that he's admired her from afar made her heart flutter wildly in her chest. Is she ready to take that step with him yet? Old pains and remnants of broken hearts hold her back a bit more and she decides to take a smaller step. Especially when he asks her to clarify what she meant.
Her thumb strokes his cheek gently and she meets his gaze more intently; hoping to wipe the frown from his lips. "I want to make you my personal guard, Devlin. Not just the whole bloody castle but mine. Sort of like a bodyguard, I suppose. However...In regards to something more personal I was under the impression that we were already exclusive. You are the only lover I have or want, so, I'm hoping that I'm your only one, too...If we both share deeper feelings then I would ask you to be my Royal Consort, too."
The Fae Queen draws a bit closer, nearly pressing against him as her thumb traces his lower lip; golden gaze glittering as her voice softens and fills with hope. "D-do you have deeper feelings for me, Devlin? Could you explain them for me?" @pyrokineticwarrior

The questioning man considered the queen's enigmatic words. His destiny, it seemed, was more complex than he realized.
As he mulled over this revelation, another presence drew his attention. A woman sat at the bar, regarding him curiously yet kindly. Though she denied being an oracle, her perceptiveness suggested wisdom beyond her years.
Intrigued, he turned fully toward her. "You perceive much, my lady. Indeed, I find myself pondering life's mysteries this night." A gentle smile formed. Devlin spoke quietly yet earnestly, curiosity and care softening the intensity in his gaze. Here was one who saw beyond surfaces; her understanding could provide the clarity he sought. For the first time that night, uncertainty yielded to hope that answers may be found through open and trusting dialogue.
"Your offer of conversation is kindly made. Perhaps through sharing our perspectives, we may each gain new insight. My name is Devlin - what may I call you?"
@lady-llewellyn
He just had such an intense look on his face that she wanted to comfort him a bit and try to help him figure out whatever it was that was bothering him. It's definitely not a pickup line even though they're both in a rather empty bar. More like why hadn't he touched his drink and she'd already had three on her own. Well, that plus the supernatural aura he was sporting--an extra strange one.
Ellyn wasn't expecting him to ask her that though and for a brief, split-second she was thrust back to her teen years at a Roman temple in Egypt; so long ago. She blinks at him and manages a little smile and shake of her head, stirring her drink with her straw. "Oh no, I'm not an oracle at all...However, you had this wee intense look on your face that I can only assume comes from thinking about one's life or troubles and only responded accordingly--especially since you've not touched your drink yet and I've had three. Is it helping any or can I distract you with further conversation, handsome?" @pyrokineticwarrior

A soft, breathless sigh escaped Devlin's lips as he beheld the beauty of the Fae Queen. Just watching her perform this simple act made him feel captivated. His heart swelled with adoration, desire, and a profound sense of connection. Devlin lamented for a bit about his past, how he used to hunt the fae creatures before he was captured by them, and then he had to prove his worth again and be their kingdom's knight.
Every detail of the scene etched itself into his memory—the dappled sunlight casting a golden glow on her radiant features, the soft rustle of leaves in the gentle breeze, and the sweet tang of the blackberry lingering in the air. As a warrior, Devlin never really got a chance to appreciate all of that. How kind she was, to allow him a moment of respite, to let him enjoy nature and the beauty that was held in it! In that moment, he realized how deeply he had fallen for her, how she had become the center of his world.
Devlin found himself drawn closer to Ellyn, his hand reaching out as if compelled by an invisible force. He brushed his fingertips against her cheek, his touch feather-light, as if afraid to disturb the delicate magic that enveloped them. His gaze held awe and tenderness as he whispered, practically worshipping this fae, "you are a vision, my queen. A true enchantress. I feel as if I'm under your spell, utterly captivated by your every move. Whomever is fated to be with you for eternity, they are truly blessed."
@lady-llewellyn
Her smile grows bright at his compliment and inclines her head slightly. Ellyn felt her heart damn near skip a beat at the affection filtering into his tone. Something akin to hope buoyed itself from the depths of her soul and made her chest tight. Devlin was quickly becoming more than just a guard to her and she doesn't know if she should even speak of it. "I thought you might like the idea, Devlin. And it's good you see the wisdom in less heavy armor, too. Not that Fae steeds can't handle it, it'll just get in the way and honestly, cause quite a ruckus that otherwise interrupts the serenity of the forest."
The Fae Queen departs then with a word to meet her at the stables once he has changed. After all, she has to put up the lovely wand he's gifted her with and get ready herself. But, it doesn't take long to meet him with their saddled mounts and head out into the forest to enjoy the sunshine and peace. She leads him along her favorite path to a gorgeous grove and gestures for them to leave their horses as they walk along for themselves to the very blackberry bushes she had in mind.
She can tell the change in atmosphere has a positive effect on him; noticing the way tension leaves his frame and his smile returns. Her hands are in her pockets as she slows down when he starts speaking and glances around them up at the dappled canopy above then back at him slowly. "I'm glad you were able to escape a bit and come with me, Devlin. Tis the perfect day to do so in my book...And the blackberries were my other goal, to be honest. I'd envisioned turning them into a pie or something if we can manage to pick enough and not devour them first." It makes her laugh at him suddenly holding one out to her, but she takes it all the same; sucking it out form between his fingers with a low hum of appreciation. @pyrokineticwarrior

Devlin's heart ached as he listened to Queen Ellyn's words, feeling the weight of her pain and frustration. Her cold demeanor only made him realize the extent of his mistakes and the depth of her hurt. He took a step closer, his voice trembling with emotion.
"No, Ellyn, that's not it," Devlin pleaded, his voice choked with tears. "I haven't been avoiding you because I don't care. It's the opposite. I love you, and I've been avoiding you because I was scared. Scared that I would never be worthy of you, that my past would always haunt me."
He moved closer, desperately needing her to understand the turmoil within him. "When I became a soldier, it wasn't just for glory or personal gain. It was because I needed to save people, to protect them, to get rid of the guilt that consumed me. I'm not proud of my past, Ellyn. I've done things I can never undo, and I thought distancing myself from you would keep you safe from my darkness."
Tears welled up in Devlin's eyes, streaming down his face as he bared his soul to her. "But I was wrong. I see now that I've hurt you even more by pushing you away. I should have been there for you, supporting you through everything. I should have shown you how much you mean to me."
His voice cracked with raw emotion as he continued, "Ellyn, I can't bear the thought of losing you. I can't imagine a life without you by my side. Please, forgive me. Let me rectify my mistakes. Let me prove to you that I'm capable of being the knight you deserve, the one who will protect and cherish you. I... I need you."
Devlin's tears fell freely now, his heart laid bare before her. He had bared his soul, hoping against hope that she would understand his fears and find it in her heart to give him another chance.
@lady-llewellyn
They had been celebrating her niece's sixth birthday for most of the evening. It wasn't nearly as extravagant as other formal affairs but it was quite a party even if the child had gone to bed well over an hour ago and the adults were left to enjoy themselves. And really, it also provided enough of a distraction for her, too. It was far easier to get absorbed in the party planning and her family occupying her free time between other queenly duties. In fact, it was a boon really and kept her from dwelling too much as of late.
However, when she sees him, it's a struggle not to make any moves for his attention. After all, it's been weeks since that battle with the Dark Elves and he'd yet to reach out to her. Though the pain still lingered and twisted in her heart; she had hoped he would say something to her. Yet, here they were, over a month later and still Devlin avoided her as much as she avoided him. Though seeing him there across the room from the corner of her eye made her struggle to maintain her composure. How fortunate that he wasn't bothered by anything at all!
When she couldn't take it anymore and he seemed engrossed in his conversation, she sought to slip out into the night; hoping beyond hope that a brisk walk would help clear her head and reign her emotions from spilling out. And she's fairly certain it's working out well enough; not even hearing much else above the fading music in the background before her own heartbeat is thundering in her ears. Hells, she only stops when she's reached the fountain away from prying eyes where she can try to compose herself; hands shaking at her sides while the heartache surges within and mingles with her anger. How dare he act so nonchalant!
Her eyes are closed, head tilting back a bit as she takes a deep breath--a few more until there's a slight crunch of gravel and his voice. The way he says her name almost feels like he actually cares. It brings back memories she's stubbornly tried to forget and shortens her breath before she sighs. The Fae Queen summons every ounce of her control and stays turned away from him, gaze moving over the silvery moonlight reflected in the waters before them; voice cold. "It was not my intention to avoid you, knight. Though perhaps you only recognize it as such since I'm only mirroring your own behavior, no? Mayhaps you're seeking congratulations again on your victory, Devlin...Why else would you follow me here? There are no other battles on the horizon just yet, but, I'm sure once there is then I'll have need of you."
Ellyn turned on her heel to leave then, giving him her back fully and clasping her hands in front of herself before they could become fists on their own. Dragon scales ripple along the delicate curve of her neck and shoulder; dancing along her collarbone and disappearing under her dress. Or, at least from when he could see maybe even a faint outline along her jaw and high on her cheek. Her composure is cracking and she's damn near grinding her teeth before she squares her shoulders with a little roll and huffs. "These past weeks you've made yourself abundantly clear, Devlin--you're free. Be the knight you wish to be and don't worry about me. Thank you for your personal attention and services but they're no longer needed. I'm eliminating the royal guard position and will be handling my own protection. After all, you've proven to me that I can handle everything myself and that I need no one at all. Feel free to enjoy the rest of the party and your stay in the barracks while you pursue glory as a warrior. Besides, I've noticed that's where you're happiest and most comfortable..."
She hates admitting that she's even taken such notice and liberties with her free time. But, gods help her, the anxiety has eaten at her like nothing else. The Fae Queen had even gone to check on him after the battle was won and saw him celebrating with the other men from afar. Before that though? It's a troublesome blur of heartbreaking pain and mental exhaustion. From the mere second their tryst ended in a searingly beautiful moment and the few breaths of respite before he was in motion to go to war on her behalf? She barely remembers much more than him helping her get dressed and his plea for her blessing as he left her there on her own. In all that time, he never came back for her or sought her out and it had her shaking with restrained emotions anew while they were out in the privacy of the garden! It takes everything in her not to fall apart right there because, after all, it wouldn't matter to him. Hells, it hadn't mattered at all this whole time anyway. @pyrokineticwarrior

Devlin's heart raced as Ellyn straddled his leg, her touch sending shivers down his spine. He couldn't help but be captivated by her, feeling a deep connection between them that went beyond words. Her suggestion of participating in the sacred rites during the Beltane revel filled him with both excitement and reverence.
Devlin's hands found their way to Ellyn's waist, pulling her closer as the music and his own heartbeat pulsed around them. "To be able to share in such a significant celebration, to witness the power of the Fae and be part of their ancient traditions, it is a privilege I really cannot express in words. I will give myself completely to the revel, and in doing so, I hope to bring you happiness beyond measure."
He leaned in, his lips brushing against her ear as he whispered, "you have awakened a fire within me, Ellyn, a fire that burns for you and the enchantment and mystery of the Fae realm. I am yours, completely and willingly."
Devlin pulled her close and leaned forward at the same time, and kissed her softly. Truly, his heart was aflame with desire and anticipation for the revel that awaited them. He tugged at her dress and even dared to unclasp her bra, for a moment forgetting where they stood in society.
@lady-llewellyn
Ellyn had a weakness for running her fingers through his lovely hair; enjoying the way the strands felt between her fingers and thoroughly living for the content look that spreads across his face at the same time. Were he anyone else and not a thorough dog lover, she'd say he reminds her of this tabby cat she had once that was so very spoiled by her pets.
The Fae Queen snickers softly when he seems excited at her off to take him to a revel and the comparison to anything Dionysus managed to pull together. In truth, she was quite sure one of her predecessors' revels might have inspired the Greek God himself. But, that was a hard thing to prove so she didn't bring it up.
She steps in a little closer as his voice drops and the music becomes too loud to hear him very well. Luckily, her gaze zeroes in on his lips and she can read them just fine. Straddling his leg as the bass line picks up, she arches in and rubs herself against him as her fingernails gently scratch his scalp before she grips his nape. "The biggest revel is in the spring--Beltane. It's our celebration of the season and partially to bless the crops and Folk with increased fertility. I could bring you to that one, Devlin. Maybe even let you participate in the sacred rites with me for all to see, no?" @pyrokineticwarrior

"Y-your highness... Are you sure? I mean, I've always admired you from afar, but to be exclusively yours... It's more than I could have ever dreamed of." He paused for a moment, gathering his thoughts. If i means leaving his post as a castle guard, then he'll gladly do it. "What do I need to do? Tell me, and I'll do everything in my power to make it happen."
Devlin's frowned gaze locked with Ellyn's. He wanted to understand what she meant by being just hers, to know the depth of her feelings and what it would entail for their relationship. He didn't know if he was worthy, no- he wasn't going to jump to conclusions. Jumping always got him in pain.
"What do you mean by being exclusively yours, Ellyn? I want to understand your expectations and desires."
@lady-llewellyn
Her gaze drops from his as he speaks like that; a small frown tugging at her lips with his formality. Before he could apologize much more she reached out and lightly covered his mouth with her hand and licked her own lips. Golden orbs sought his as her gesture shifted and she cupped his jaw gently. "I am not offended at all, Devlin...Please continue to admire me and yearn for me. It surely means you don't notice me doing the same for you."
Her voice softens as she steps in closer, thumb swiping over his cheek a bit more. The Fae Queen looks a little nervous after showing her hand and admitting how she feels about him, too. "Devlin, I cherish every moment we have together and only want more. Would you give up being a castle guard to be exclusively mine?" @pyrokineticwarrior

A smile tugged at the corners of his lips, mirroring Ellyn's. "My queen, you always find a way to enchant me," he admitted, his voice filled with affection. "To be by your side and guard you during a leisurely ride sounds like a delightful respite indeed."
He nodded in agreement, understanding the impracticality of wearing heavy armor for such an outing. "You're right, the armor would hinder the enjoyment of the ride. I shall exchange it for something lighter and more suitable."
As they ventured into the woods, the sunlight filtered through the canopy, casting a dappled pattern on the forest floor. The soft rustling of leaves and the distant chirping of birds filled the air, creating a serene ambiance. Devlin took a deep breath, inhaling the crisp, fresh scent of nature.
"This is perfect, my mind has never felt so clear. I seldom take breaks like these. Although, I am still on duty and I am aware I must still protect you, I'll admit, this is quite fun. Reminds me of my youth at the village- we had a forest similar to this not too far away. I'd pick so many fruits." He looked at the branches of a bush, and picked a small blackberry. "Ah- ripe and tart. Would you like to try it?" He offered to feed it to Ellyn. Royalty have been fed like this for centuries, but he simply wanted to invoke this gesture out of his sheer care and adoration for Ellyn as a woman he secretly loved.
@lady-llewellyn
Ellyn was glad to feel the warmth of his hand as it closed over hers; heart skipping a beat briefly. Still, his excuse that follows threatens to sour her mood entirely. After taking a moment to consider ways around his woefully depressing perception, she had an idea. Ellyn stepped to the side and came around to face him better, trailing her hand up to caress his cheek gently. "Then be at my side. Accompany me and guard me whilst I take a wee ride through the woods. Surely, such a task is worthwhile for my favorite guard, is it not?"
The Fae Queen smiled wider as she brought her hand up higher to trace his eyebrows lightly. She was rather proud of her idea, really. Plus, she could turn a little jaunt through the woods into something much longer if she chose the right path. There were still plenty of blackberry bushes flourishing and heavy with fruit. It'd be a good excuse to have him stop and relax a bit more. Her gaze finds his and sparkles with mirth. "You might have to leave the heavy armor behind though. It'd be horribly uncomfortable fro the ride." @pyrokineticwarrior

Devlin's heart skipped a beat as Ellyn's fingers brushed through his hair, and he couldn't help but feel a surge of warmth at her close proximity. She was saying something about Fae revel, and he only heard about such a thing before, never before delving deep in the subject. Now he was curious.
"Your majesty, you've piqued my curiosity now," he responded, his voice filled with playful anticipation. "I would be honored to experience a Fae revel with you. I have no doubt that it would be an extraordinary affair, rivaling even Dionysus himself."
He matched her gaze with an intensity of his own, his voice lowering slightly amidst the pulsating music. "I can only imagine the enchantment and revelry that takes place in the Fae realm. I have a feeling it would be an experience like no other. When will you be taking me?"
@lady-llewellyn
The Fae Queen was a little shocked at his excitement but found Devlin's enthusiasm a bit more infectious than she'd admit out loud. It also bolstered her own desire to seek some fun after a horrible start to her new year. Or, at least that's the goal. Besides, she hadn't been out with the demigod for weeks and hoped the club would be a lovely place to start since it was warded to Hell against fights, attacks, and other sundry nonsense. Neutral-ish in the ways that mattered and a space where she could let loose a bit more than usual.
It was nice to get lost in the music with him; dancing the night away to damn near every song that played. Some were faster than others, but, she'd planned for that in advance when choosing her favorite red dress. He'd garnered more of her attention when he leaned in to say that and snickered; draping her arm over his shoulder and sliding in a wee bit closer. So what if her fingers glided through his hair before settling at his nape and peering up at him from beneath her eyelashes. "Remind me to take you to a Fae revel, handsome. I think that can more than compete with Dion's partying."
