New street cleaners for the borough

  We have employed 10 extra street cleaners to keep the roads and pavements clear of litter and waste.

The appointments are part of our commitment to making sure we help to deliver what local people want – clean and green neighbourhoods where people want to live, work and do business in.

Councillor Barbara Brownridge, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Co-operatives, said: “One of the things that comes up time and again when we talk to residents is that they want to see streets that are rubbish-free.

The street cleaners will be deployed across the borough – targeting hotspots and the main corridors  – in two shifts of five.

The teams work on a street by street basis and as well as removing litter and waste, they will also tidy up the area by removing weeds from the cracks in pavements, for example.
