no because obviously they werent going to show the entirety of hsm3. so why did they pick the scene where gabriella's saying she wants to stay and troy's telling her to go. and why'd they stick a rina cue over it. if it wasn't meant to directly parallel ricky and gina's issues at that point in time!!!

knowing the immense time/location/financial crunch s4 was under only reinforces the fact that i think the finale was really supposed to be about gina deciding to go or not, not … her keeping secrets and assuming he'll be okay with it even though it's exactly what both of their last partners did to them and they know how much that hurts first-hand … but for lack of time or whatever they just cut out all of her introspective stuff and made it seem like she was 100% in on the new zealand plan. but originally that's not how it was supposed to go im absolutely convinced of it.

like imagine –

gina gets the job offer at the end of 4x06 and accepts immediately assuming it's in SLC. ricky knows about this.

quinn breaks the NZ news the morning of opening night and she has to go to school early to sort out things because now the press conference has been moved up and in all the craziness she doesn't tell anyone except miss jenn

and then freaks out when she sees ricky and cant tell him and also she doesnt want to go on this trip anyway (and she needs a new contract so shes not obligated to)

and it's obviously eating her alive (cut to scenes in the girls' dressing room between the trio + emmy because we were robbed of those too)

but anyway ricky can tell theres something off and he assumes it's that he hasnt said ily yet LOL

terri breaks the news to ricky etc

cut to ricky going back to the dressing room and telling the guys what happened and then boys are back happens w red and carlos in the wings watching and they're all going through shit but there for each other as they should be (can you tell i miss the group dynamics lol)

ricky tells gina he knows about her leaving right at the end of intermission and she tells him it was last minute

gina and ricky talk about it in between scenes/during scenes and hes trying to be a good boyfriend and get her to go but she's obviously visibly conflicted

basically, there's no "i was hoping he'd fight for me but now my choice is clear" bs because like. she knows why hes doing that. because she knows him and knows his history and knows his thoughts right now. what the hell.

and pretty much all the big scenes stay the way they are?? just that ricky isnt completely heartbroken because it's sudden news to them both and he knows she's also having a fierce internal debate with herself???

the ej scene is ej telling gina it's a shit situation but it's not her fault and also shes allowed to take agency in her life and he wishes he stood up to his dad sooner and now she has the opportunity to do so because the one useful thing i learned from my dad is that nothing's final without a contract in hand *wink*

i just. i know this show is over the top and campy and dramatic but this was an unnecessarily A Lot idk
