Probably one of my oddest contributions to the Thomas Fandom is USAR Light Mikado Mike.
Seriously this sprite is surprisingly popular, mainly as Churchill and Dr. Syn have still yet to get sprites, I've seen this become Jock a few times which I think is fun.
The whole reason why Mike is even an American is S734 is due to his portrayal by EE93, the voice and mannerisms were just so distinct, like his voices that was officially given were fun, the weirdly Gordon Ramsey sound from Tim Whitnall was fun but I figured that the brash American voice was rather fun.
So lore surrounding him, Mike doesn't show up with Rex and Bert (Otherwise known as Wallace in S734) he's the eighth engine purchased for the Arlesdale, he was contract built for Hanson Moore, one of the more railway interested investors, and he was the first brand new steam engine built for the railway, everyone else up until that point had been pre-owned. Mr. Moore really went all out on the livery, Red, White and Blue, and a nameplate reading Scarlet Fire, the other engines thought Mike's overall appearance was gaudy, and trying to get peoples attention, and Rex nearly exploded from laughing so hard after Mike's first passenger train, when afterwards he claimed he hated them, and would prefer goods work, Ragnar said that you could practically hear Mr. Moore shrink when Mike said that.
Mike loves the heavy Ballast work due to the fact that Ragnar and Rex are Atlantics (Will explain them in their own post) and Wallace was rather old, it was down to Franka and Braid (Basset Lowke Pacific) to work those heavy trains, but when Mike came along he took to them like old Roosevelt to a horse, he loves the job, mainly as it shows everyone how strong he is, and well he's right he is the strongest one.
In terms of his relationships with the others, they find him rather funny, if a bit brash and argumentative and glad that he showed up to haul Ballast.
Wretch and Sprocket (Blisters) like Mike, even if he finds the two slightly unsettling but nice to talk to.
Wallace doesn't quite know how to feel about Mike, or Michael as he calls him, a privilege reserved only for those who Mike deeply respects, like the Small Control or Mr. Moore, so the fact he doesn't throw old Wallace a look of death shows he respects the old codger, but old Wally as Mike calls him, doesn't like how Mike treats the passengers.
Ragnar finds the 'Big Yank' as he calls him rather cumbersome but respects his self assuredness and strength. 'Well placed confidence he has' is what he says about him.
Rex loves ripping into Mike, as he knows he has the ego to recover, but even then his remarks are only paint deep, he has a lot of respect for Mike, but finds it very funny that he just can't with passengers.
Franka's relationship with Mike is really odd, the two argue like they need to live, the others would always yell 'GET A SHED!' even Rex who loves to argue with him, practically broke over an argument about lubrication oil, and he practically screamed at them to just get together needless to say the two have been dating for awhile.
Braid, she tries to actively avoid interacting with Mike, mainly as she knows that if she engages in conversation, she'll realise that she hasn't move for an hour.
Jock, they treat Mike like a big brother, did something stupid with a ballast wagon, accidently stole Ragnar's beard wax, old Mike has you covered.
Old Big Scarlet is for lack of a better term the big brash glue that holds the crew together, mainly as he does the heavy lifting most of them can't.

Ok, time for my most beloved bit of my personal headcanon.
Back in the 90s there was a children's sitcom on ITV called Mike and Angelo.
Tumblr media
In fact, it ran all the way from 1989 to 2000, so from when I was five to sixteen, which is perfect.
It featured a series of young boys (and one girl) named Mike, and an alien named Angelo. Angelo arrives from the planet Ptarg in an interdimensional spacecraft that disguises itself as a wardrobe.
The similarities to the TARDIS are obvious, although once it's landed the wardrobe acts more like a portal or teleporter than a spaceship.
Originally, Angelo is played by Tyler Butterworth.
Tumblr media
However, in the first episode of the third series, Angelo is struck down by a mysterious illness and almost dies, only to regenerate in a very Doctor Who-like fashion. The new Angelo is played by Tim Whitnall and stays for the next ten series.
Tumblr media
It's clear that Doctor Who was a big influence on Mike and Angelo, even if Angelo is more a troublesome scamp than an adventurer, and has all kinds of peculiar abilities.
But wait, there's more!
Tyler Butterworth is the son of Peter Butterworth, know to DW fans for playing the original, TV incarnation of the Meddling Monk.
Tumblr media
I'm therefore convinced that Angelo is the Monk's son. Presumably at some point he settled down on Ptarg for a bit and started a family, with Angelo inheriting his regenerative abilities from his father.
Angelo's dad actually turns up in a later episode with the second Angelo, played by none other than Ron Moody.
Tumblr media
Hence my unshakable belief that Ron Moody played an incarnation of the Monk, after Peter Butterworth and before Graeme Garden, Rufus Hound and Gemma Whelan.

Introducing Cyan! One of my engine Original characters! Her basis is basically Duncan’s basis which is the Douglas narrow gauge engine. She was built in 1917. And was brought to sodor in 1918. Her voice is Tim Whitnall’s voice which is the voice for Timothy the oil burning engine. Originally her basis was going to be Thomas’s basis. And her design was inspired by Lady and Duncan. But then I chose the Douglas engine. So lets welcome Cyan shall we? ✨✨✨💙🚂🛤

Kisekae Insights #21: Fifi and Roary addendum
Hey everyone. In case you haven’t read already, I have a full-time job now, so I don’t know if I’ll be as prolific in making content than in the past. However, I am still determined to cover Gokaiger, Decade and Soulbound eventually, so I aim to make two instalments of Kisekae Insights per month. When we get to those instalments, they will most likely be split up into multiple parts, so I might be releasing more than two instalments in a month. I started this series as a result of the coronavirus lockdown – even with further lockdowns resulting in me having to work from home, I don’t know if I can be as prolific as I have been last year, given that I need to be in work mode for five days a week and that I still have my personal project to finish off. Nevertheless, I will continue to do my best and I hope you will continue to support me as always.
The main purpose of this instalment is to set the record straight on voice actors for Fifi and the Flowertots and Roary the Racing Car like I did with Angelina Ballerina a few instalments ago. Unlike Angelina Ballerina, however, this list was easy to determine because the cast is (largely) the same in both the UK and US versions. My original plan for this was to update the original instalment with this new information, but then I decided that it would be better to release it as a filler instalment.
Fifi and the Flowertots voice actors:
Jane Horrocks – Fifi Forget-me-not, Primrose
Maria Darling – Violet, Pip Gooseberry, Poppy (UK)/Poppady (US), Webby
Marc Silk – Bumble (UK)/Fuzzbuzz (US), Slugsy
Tim Whitnall – Stingo, Aunt Tulip, Hornetto, Grubby, Flutterby
Nick Wilson – Diggly
Joanna Ruiz – Buttercup
Janet James – Daisy
Nick Wilson is better known as a producer, scriptwriter and a consultant for children’s media according to his LinkedIn account.
Roary the Racing Car voice actors:
Peter Kay (UK)/Kerry Shale (US) – Big Chris, Tin Top, Big Christine
Maria Darling – Roary, Cici (UK)/Zizzy (US), Marsha, Mama Mia, Breeze
Marc Silk – Maxi, Hellie, Drifter (UK)/Dragga (US), Flash (UK)/Furz (US), Nick, Dinkie
Tim Whitnall – Mr Carburettor, Farmer Green
Dominic Frisby – Rusty, FB (UK)/Trucksy (US), Plugger (UK)/Lugga (US), James, Loada, PC Pete, Molecom
Craig Lowndes – Conrod
Sir Stirling Moss (UK)/Sam Hornish Jr. (US) – Narrator
Big Chris was absent in the Roary tribute episodes in Gokaiger and Decade and as such, Kerry Shale was credited as Tin Top’s voice. The reason is because Peter Kay had cancelled his tour and all his other work in November 2017 due to “unforeseen family circumstances”. I thought it was going to be permanent, but given how he seemingly started to come back to the limelight a few months after, I ended up giving him a cameo in the final episode of Gokaiger before giving him a full appearance in the Roary tribute episode in Soulbound Series 3 (October 2019).
Fifi and Roary are somewhat obscure series; the fact that they used to have websites was enough for them not to fall into even deeper obscurity. A decade ago, not very many episodes were uploaded onto YouTube, but now, the two shows have official channels and episodes keep being reuploaded daily with no indication of episode numbers. Trying to attain an accurate episode list has been a nightmare, though it can be said that at least 104 episodes were made for both series between 2005 and 2008 (assuming each series took about a year to produce).
In regards to Fifi, I find it interesting that it got a third series, but it was only 13 episodes long. Buttercup, Daisy and Flutterby were new characters in the series and I think they deserved more screentime, but hey, the fact that I’ve done this project means that I’ve fulfilled that wish already (hypothetically speaking).
So what happened to the production company, Chapman Entertainment? After creating Little Charley Bear and Raa Raa the Noisy Lion, Chapman was placed into administration in November 2012 and acquired by DreamWorks Animation in September 2013. Founder Keith Chapman, who created Bob the Builder in 1998, would go on to create PAW Patrol and Mighty Express. At this point, Fifi and Roary are obscure enough that I could say I own the rights to both series and nobody would care. In fact, I like to pretend that I do, like this project isn’t full of copyright infringements already.
At this point, both the official websites for Fifi and Roary have been discontinued and are now essentially impossible to access via archives due to the discontinuation of Adobe Flash. Low-quality wiki information seems to be all that remains now, but hilariously, the wiki for Fifi and the Flowertots seems to be no more.
I’m always appreciative of the few fans who like my posts or even reach out to me on things relating to obscure shows or content, whether it be Fifi and the Flowertots, Sea Princesses or anything else. As I have stated before, content for these shows is hard to come by and as such, people like me have had to step up and be the change we want to see in the world. For example, if I didn’t take the plunge last year during lockdown, I wouldn’t have been able to translate and review the Sea Princesses book series.
Anyway, that’s it for now. I’ll move onto something new in the next instalment.

This was Mike and Angelo!
It ran on ITV between 1989 and 2000. Originally Angelo, the alien, was played by Tyler Butterworth, and in the first episode of the third series he became sick and regenerated into Tim Whitnall, who played him for remainder.
He also arrived in a spaceship/portal which disguised itself as a wardrobe. Very Doctor Who influenced!
Since you know about obscure and non-US TV shows I'm hoping you can help me. In the 92-93 era on HK television, there was a British Sitcom that was about an alien living with a boy and his family. It was similar to My favorite martian but it was a current show. At the end of a season the alien dies. Cliffhanger! The first episode of the next season has the alien recover, and he pops up cast as a different actor. Any idea what this was?
posting it so hopefully someone knows the show you're looking for ^^

The Jewish Chronicle - June 14, 1996
Review of ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’ - a BBC radio dramatisation of the life of Brian Epstein. (you can listen to it HERE)
RADIO // Helen Jacobus is unimpressed by a sloppy dramatisation of the life of Beatles manager Brian Epstein
A play in the life
The life of Brian was not what it should have been.
Nor was his death.
Frances McNeil’s play, With A Little Help From My Friends (BBC Radio 4, last night), dramatised the mystery of Brian Epstein, the man who managed the Beatles, made them famous, and died aged 32, in 1967, from an overdose of drugs.
The play opened shortly before his death, on the eve of the last Beatles world tour in 1966, when Epstein (Jonathan Keeble) was the worse for wear from a combination of chemical and alcohol abuse.
With a little help from some old Beatles tracks, the narrative flashed back to the old days in the Cavern, in Liverpool, when Epstein was struggling to make John, Paul, George and Pete Best, Ringo’s predecessor, famous.
His faith in “the boys” was touchingly unshakable, even though he was informed that “four-piece bands are out.”
But McNeil didn’t throw any new light on Epstein’s mental decline - was it really because the Beatles ceased touring after 1966 and didn’t need him any more?
References to Epstein’s homosexuality and Jewishness cropped up frequently in the hit-and-miss, if pacey, dialogue - the implication being that that he didn’t receive an MBE because of homophobia and anti-Semitism in the British establishment.
Apart from the credible portrayal of Epstein - Keeble did sound like him - this drama-doc was let down by weak research and characterisation.
The wooden acting of Tim Whitnall as John Lennon did not help to convince that the two had had an affair, as was strongly suggested in the script.
To be fair to Whitnall, his lines did not give him much of a chance. Despite giving a fair imitation of John’s Liverpool accent, the language - a mixture of Lennon’s flippancy and McNeil’s dramatic licence - made this the most difficult role to play. More unforgivable, was the characterisation of Epstein’s parents, Queenie (Anne Beach) and Harry (Christopher Scott) - in reality, well-heeled Orthodox Jews from Liverpool - as actors on day-release from “Coronation Street.” Someone, somewhere should have to answer for such sloppiness.

Every Disney connection with Thomas The Tank Engine The Sing Along songs were undoubtedly inspired by that of Disney's. Not to mention that every narrator ( including Britt Allcroft ) partook in Disney media at some point in their career.  The same can be said vise versa. Neil Crone, Tim Whitnall, Martin T. Sherman, Rob Rackstraw, John Hasler, Christopher Ragland, John Schwab, Jamie Thomason, Teresa Gallagher and Hugh Bonneville are all people who worked on Thomas & Friends at point in their life. The show in question once broadcasted on Disney Junior. Vampirina reuses the title of the season 6 episode Twin Trouble. In Wander Over Yonder : The Fancy Party,  the crash sound from Thomas and Friends can be heard in the scene where Wander bursts through the door still holding the bathroom door. Bertie's horn is used in the " By The Beautiful Sea " Sing Along Music Video when lyrics " So he'd get his ford " are sung. And as much as I'd hate to include this : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBvWyyyu1to Even Railway Series publishers Egmont Group along with Random House, Phidal Publishing  engaged with the big cooperation. And Captain Baxter was modified with an American chimney, cowcatcher, lamp, whistle, and flags to represent Randy Stevenot in Muppets Most Wanted. And of course let's not forget their involvement in trains. So it's no wonder Disney wanted to buy the right to Thomas.
And before I forget. James & Mike.

I said I was gonna do the cranes :p I missed out Harvey and Merrick cause ... spacing  And Harvey's half engine so he doesn't 100% count. Merrick? Whoops. Well I can finally get back onto my schedule now! Still quite a few pieces to go, but I'm slowly progressing through the list.  Kevin: The goodest boy :3 And my second favourite character overall, my favourite non-rail character (I'm SO sorry Captain) Cranky: What a convenient name XD Carly: Well it's Lucy Montgomery so that automatically makes her cool (Grizel and Archie from DD) Is she scouse? I'm SURE she's scouse.  Rocky: I've seen people call him a 'plot device' but? So what? Sodor does kinda NEED a breakdown crane or two. Judy and Jerome: They're cool too XD Jerome is Tim Whitnall so that's also automatically cool (Zigzoo!) Although actually Jerome sounds SLIGHTLY like Stink.

Comedy icon Eric Morecambe remembered in Stockton Heath play
Originally published in the Warrington Guardian A FIRST time theatre director was stunned when his production received the blessing of the play’s Olivier award-winning scriptwriter. Stockton Heath resident Chris McClelland was putting together his take on Tim Whitnall’s play Morecambe when he received the message of encouragement in the post. The theatre hit, a biographical one-man show about the life of legendary comedian Eric Morecambe, was chosen by Chris for his directorial debut with Stockton Heath Methodist Dramatic Society. The 60-year-old said: “This doesn’t happen very often, but we had a message and a card from the writer of the play when we were doing the first night of the performance. “We were really pleased. I’ve never known it to happen before with amateur productions.” Earning an Olivier award and several five-star reviews during its original run, the play captured Chris’s interest due to fond childhood memories of watching Morecambe and Wise on TV. He added: “As soon as I saw that the title had become available I was intrigued straight away. We got hold of the script and it’s just brilliant. It’s a well told story and a well written play. I’m not surprised it won awards.” But there were some challenges to overcome when putting the production together. Chris said: “The main problem is finding someone who is brave enough to take on that role, given people’s familiarity with Eric Morecambe. That one man plays around 27 different characters in the show, so you have to give the actor the support to develop that role. It’s managing those nuances really.” That is why Chris was delighted when actor David Matthews went for the audition and completely fit the bill. He fills the shoes of Eric Morecambe in the play’s only role. Chris added: “He’s an expert. To learn 50 plus pages and pull that off each night is an achievement. If you come along to the festival night you’ll see a really stand-out performance.” And as if the endorsement from the play’s writer and the production’s director was not enough, David recently received the blessing of Eric Morecambe’s son Gary. Chris said: “They were very supportive and encouraging. I think they’re really excited to see a group like ours take on this challenging play which turns out to be a great bit of entertainment.” http://www.warringtonguardian.co.uk/leisure/interviews/15378115.Comedy_icon_Eric_Morecambe_remembered_in_Stockton_Heath_play/

Sunday 13th August 2023, a review of the play "LENA" from The Review Hub. yesterday.
The reviewer mistakenly said that Lena was nine years old when she was actually ten
They also claimed that Lena shared a stage with CHER, when in fact she appeared on the SHARE show.
To be fair, a lot of reviewers have copied and pasted mistakes like this. However below is an answer given by this reviewer to a question in a December 2013 interview:
What is your piece of advice would you give for anyone who is new to blogging/reviewing?
It depends what you want your blog to become. If it's just a personal record of your theatre highlights then pick your style and theme and stick to it. Get yourself a good blog name and an unique online identity. I've found that by being more specialised (Glasgow and Scottish theatre) has been better than diversifying; it's better to be really well informed in one area than spread yourself thin. If you want your blog to be something more, then a certain amount of discipline is required: always be professional, double and triple check your facts; check your spelling, grammar and syntax; being professional from the start is what has made my own blog grow, big companies want you to maintain a professional and most of all, objective stance; theatre reviews are a very specific type of writing and it pays to stick to what the industry standards are. Find your voice and be prepared to defend what you write; treat everyone with courtesy and respect and always hand in copy within the agreed deadlines and finally, post regularly, the more content you have the more readers you get.
