a lot of fandom exchange/events etiquette seems very strongly agreed upon by people whose entire lives are devoted to fandom rather than juggling it as a hobby alongside school/work/childcare etc, which makes sense because i don't think anyone else would have the time to be this passionate about the rigidity of those rules, and man it shows
#txt#the amt of times i see mistakes conflated with a lack of effort instead of just... busy people not having the#time to be super duper precise and devoted is like. wild.#there is also a lack of patience for certain disability presentations which i hesitate to say because i do think in a lot#of cases the reason so many people in the exchange community have free time is due to getting disability benefits instead of working#which is great! it's awesome to get a sense of stability through these things! but then why is there no understanding or consideration#for other people being impeded by similar in some of the common frustrations i see pop up#it's just weird idk#two things can be true at once in that these things hold a lot of importance that should not be devalued the way fandom oftentimes is#And i don't think this is as serious as some people act like it is#i'm glad i got into exchanges through people who were already experienced so i didn't make the grave#mistake of... making a mistake..... lol.#anyway i don't think i have the time/reliability for exchanges rn and that's fine#idk if i'd feel that way if the unspoken rules tm were more lax but either way - i will simply not sign up for them when this busy#that is the responsible thing to do! not sign up for obligations you know in advance you cannot meet#but participating when i do have just enough of a gap to do so and therefore not being attentive solely to that exchange#and making it my entire life#is... allowed.............................#the same goes for people who think they will have the time/capability but then end up dealing with an unpredicted obstacle#as real people do
