It's really striking me, going all the way back to the beginning of Chibnall's Era (I'm currently watching Arachnids in the U.K.), how much this Era cares about how it talks about family and adoption and unconventional families and the like.
There is a stark contrast between Ryan talking about his father and protesting that his father doesn't get to use the words "proper family" to describe their relationship when his Nan (and Graham, as the season comes to show their growing relationship/understanding) was the one to actually show care and raise him and take care of him when his father didn't show up and Ruby referring to her biological mother- who gave her up at birth- as her "real mum" above Carla Sunday, the woman who raised her and loved her and was the one that was there for her. (The Timeless Child complicates the themes of adoption in this era, what with how the Doctor's own adopted backstory is complicated by themes of colonialism and other matters, and I think that's actually a good and interesting angle to explore in contrast to the Sinclair/O'Brien storyline, without treating adopted families aa if they don't matter- if anything, the Doctor's messy feelings on the subject only hammer in how complicated it can be to wrestle with adoption and nature v. Nurture and exploitation and the like without invalidating experiences entirely, as I think is done so often with the treatment of Carla Sunday in alternate timelines/Ruby's elevation of her biological mother as her "real mom" over the woman who took her in. There is a difference that the Chibnall era makes between child-stealing/colonialism and adoption with the contrasting character arcs/themes/circumstances that RTD2 absolutely lacks nuance on.)
I think it really shows both the complicated feelings of being someone is adopted as Chris Chibnall is while also the appreciation and respect for adoption and the fact that "real" family is the family that chose you, biological (Grace and Ryan) or not (Ryan and Graham).

since i'm already sharing Thoughts about the new episode i might as well say that i'm uh. pretty concerned about how Omega will be written next episode because RTD really seems to like lifting villains from classic who, taking some of their aesthetics, and then simplifying their character/motives to "wants to destroy the world". like it's happened with the Master (which to be fair is at least sorta in line with how they've always been written), it happened with Rassilon, it's happened with Sutekh (again, a little understandable), now it's happened with the Rani, and i doubt Omega will be any different which is a shame! because i genuinely think Omega is the best written of any Time Lord "villain" characters. he's meant to be a tragic figure who was betrayed by the same people who honor him as a hero, his whole story in classic who of a man who gave everything for the betterment of his people only to be consigned to nonexistence only hanging on through his own belief is startlingly good even before going through how the EU expanded his character and i'm sure 100% of that nuance is about to be lost given how full next episode will be.

I have loved you in quiet ways, in unspoken words and stolen glances, in the spaces between then and now.
And if love is a constant thing, then you have always been my favorite part of forever.

It’s not good, but really fascinated by the almost religious(?) qualities people pin on how they see future of artificial inteligence.
I see people express everything from apocalyptic ends and boring it as making an evil god, to it letting people exist in a non physical immortal form after death.

It’s been a minute since I posted about Rosey, Luke, and little Emersyn. So incase anyone was wondering what it’s like when she thinks she wants to start playing hockey… It goes a little like the little one’s below.
She didn’t like how it isn’t same as when she plays with her daddy, uncles, and occasionally a few of the devils. She really doesn’t like how doesn’t score as easily in her games whereas she brags about scoring on Marky…. (no one break her heart by telling her the truth, she IS related to jhugh after all.) In her first tournament she throws a tantrum (sounds familiar) during 3rd period after having another shot blocked. Then proceeds to lie on the ice limp as a noodle. Everyone who showed up to support her, which was nearly half the devils, Jim and Ellen, Jack (her biggest fan) ,and Quinn via FaceTime thought the whole thing was the funniest thing ever. So of course it just made disciplining her actions harder later.
Luke had her finish the season. She took a break from playing hockey with teams for a year or two and practiced privately. When she returned to playing travel hockey her out look was much brighter. Having her well developed skills from not only her training sessions but her skates in the summer with her dad and uncles made her nearly untouchable on the ice.
Well.
Until her uncle met someone who had an all-star daughter of her own and started helping her one on one.
this is not edited - this is a raw thought that I had and I put it out there. if this is your first blurb of mine you’re reading please do not base my writing ability off of this. please take a look my masterlist linked in my bio or look through the tag cay writes tagged 🙂‍↕️

the adventure zone balance is one of those stories that legit only gets Better upon every relisten (like substantially for a bit , i’d argue ..) . every detail you’ve missed before is caught one by one and each one makes the story even more impressive and makes you go “wow . that rat bastard .” (talking about griffin mcelroy)

Headcanon with no proof below the break
Early in The Timeless Child’s life the resentment and negativity from Tecteun, their adoptive mother, experimenting, torturing, and outright killing them to crack the gene for regeneration built up so severely in The Timeless Child’s mind that they bi-generated an entirely separate person to cast their feelings out (Hence why bi-generation wound up being a myth in the first place). The Timeless Child was able to endure and move on by excising their most negative aspects from their mind. Tecteun would not allow the split generation to be killed because it was the only other truly immortal child, yet the bi-generation required mind wipes and severe methods of mind control to keep it sane as the worst personality aspects of The Timeless Child made manifest.
The split-off half developed a love-hate relationship with The Timeless Child as time went on. At times loving the future Doctor as if they were one, other times loathing them like they were inherently better than it ever could be. Despite the efforts of the Time Lords the bi-gen never fully stabilized.
When it came time for their future incarnations to choose a moniker, The Timeless Child chose “The Doctor” as a reflection of its intent to do well. The other half though? The one who on some deep level felt and remembered the abuse that The Doctor cast off during their bi-generation? It chose a name reflecting its desire to never be subjugated again. It never wanted to be a slave no matter what heinous, abhorrent deed needed to be done. It demanded that from hence forth it only be known forevermore as “The Master”.
