Which of garashir would you rather get pregnant?

MY ANSWER GOT REALLY LONG, SORRY.

See, I think Garak would be more interesting on the whole if he were pregnant because I think it would cause him to experience every emotion in the known universe and then some all at the same time.

If Julian Bashir were pregnant, he’d have insane body dysmorphia, and he’d most likely just terminate the pregnancy as soon as possible. But that’s the thing, I don’t like Bashir is all that likely to continue carrying a pregnancy to term, unless there were extenuating circumstances (if he got the O’Brien’s baby, for example!) but even then… Bashir would be more likely to ask for help and support and get through it with friends watching him closely to look after him.

(Not that he’d be… great about asking for that help, like, it’d take him being forced to realise he needs medical leave and can’t continue working because his brain is pulling itself apart, but once he hit that breaking point, he’d reach out and he’d… he’d be okay. He’d struggle, but he’d get there. He’d get through it, he’d survive and recover and heal.)

… But Garak…? Garak is swinging wildly between wanting to kill himself and being overwhelmed because he thought he’d never get to experience this, that he’d never get to have a child or a family or anything of the sort. So he’s having mood swings like crazy, and he is fucking allergic to reaching out for support or help, he would genuinely, genuinely rather die and take the damned child with him than have to admit that being pregnant is a struggle for him.

Bashir might carry a baby to term if it were Garaks’ kid. But he’d still hit a breaking point and need to ask for support because it would trigger him into like… severe dissociation.

With Garak, it doesn’t even really matter that much who gets him pregnant because it fucks with his head the exact same way regardless. The only distinction would be that if Bashir got him pregnant, BASHIR would be watching Garak like a hawk and intervening to prevent Garaks’ mental health from spiralling too far.

They both have way too much trauma related to bodily autonomy and their own childhoods and what parenting means to them and it would fuck with their heads so, so, so bad. Mental health would absolutely fucking tank for both of them, it would be a complete mess.

… I guess my answer is Garak, simply because he would be more traumatised and fucked up by the experience, whereas Bashir would mostly paddle along until being able to terminate it and be shaken up by the whole thing, but not to the extent of feeling compelled to kill himself and/or others twenty times a day in between hysterical crying fits and bouts of near religious euphoria.

… However, I must also account for my love of torturing Bashir specifically, as well as my love for Bashir being bred. If I could place him in a situation where he could not terminate the pregnancy or access his usual support structures, it would be Bashir.

Hmm… Honestly, Garak probably also has the higher chance of being able to find genuine joy in a pregnancy if he can be kept relatively stable during it, where as I feel like Bashir would NOT enjoy being pregnant under almost any circumstance…

You know, pregnancy is genuinely a huge squick for me and I usually try to avoid thinking about it as much as possible, but with these two… There’s just so many different aspects of their psyche that can be explored through pregnancy… It would bring out so much of them that they normally try to keep suppressed…

I'm glad you like the headcanon, she's everything to me tbh. You can safely assume any time I talk about Ratio that this conception of her is in my mind.

ramblings under the cut (CW: vague mentions of intersexism and transmisogyny)

About her being intersex, I usually have two sets of headcanons: one where she has nCAH and the other hyperandrogenic PCOS. Part of why I have this headcanon is projection ofc; but it's also because I like the idea of Ratio in her goal to cure the disease of ignorance, she desires to destroy the false concept of the sex binary. It makes the goal very personal to her, being affected by intersexism, in addition to the altruism.

I think Ratio struggled a lot in her transition journey, because she felt like she had to give up a lot of the things she liked about her body and herself and had to conform to beauty standards she didn't like in her attempts to achieve the Ideal Woman status. I think she used to do extensive voice training, wear full beat makeup, and tried to avoid putting on muscle to give the thin and dainty vibe. Even though she likes her deep voice, a full face is a sensory nightmare for her, and trying to keep her body mass down was unhealthy for her...that's what she thought she needed to do. Her oddly British accent (odd for a character Greek and Roman inspired) is from imitating women she thought of as elegant and refined. She used to wear pumps in her classroom and offices even though she hated how they hurt her feet, because that's what other women wear to work.

And I imagine the Ratio we have in the present is one who is secure in her gender identity that she does not feel the need to overperform femininity. She knows that she does need to be accepted by others to know her own worth. Her body is toned and built, she speaks with a deep voice, wears clothes that are comfortable for her (cutouts for ventilation and a nice pair of sandals), puts on red eyeliner and calls it a look. And you can tell she loves it because of all those statues lmao.

My bed isn't big at all. The answer is that I am just very tiny and like to sleep in small spaces, wahaha! Anyway, here's an old pic. Some are missing because a few are hanging out on my guy's bed, and I hadn't bought all of them yet at this point.
