I have been trying, in Go, to create a library somewhere halfway between C# LINQ and C++ <algorithm> because LINQ and <algorithm> are fucking astounding and Go doesn't have either.

And Jesus but in doing this, I have learned why Go has neither. This is not a language that respects library developers. Like... At all.

You can do this if you are willing to eat an absolutely terrible runtime performance cost by using reflection everywhere* but in fact I am not.

But in C#, when I'd do something like

List<T> tlist = getList(); List<U> ulist = list.Select(fromTtoU)ToList();

that is just straight up impossible in Go without reflection.

Because Go doesn't have generic methods.

You cannot do

class List&lt;T>{ List&lt;U>Select(); } because here, LIST is only generic on <T>, not <U>. To have Select return a list of U, you would need your list to be generic on <T,U>

That is, the list creator would have to know, creating the list, what kind of selection you would later want to do on it.

Fucking insane.

*risking, also, any number of runtime panics because you won't know if a selection lambda actually, you know, selects, without running the program)

it kind of seems like a "younger" version of medium, if you know what that is -- where the writing is in general a bit more "serious" and like "takes on culture" and stuff like that but i mean.... to the best of my knowledge you can like post whatever you want LOL

there's like a "tlist" feature for short form stuff that looks really similar to twitter, and then like a "longform" feature for like "proper blog posts" which i would assume ppl could use for longer fics -- but i'm not super sold on it yet and i feel like fanfic is very untapped as a genre on substack rn (i think... fandom in general is...). so... yeah! i would give it a look if ur curious! :)

What did I read this month? As ever, it's mostly going to be Dream SMP, but I wander outside the fandom ocassionally, and we've got some QSMP and 3rd Life this month! It's so funny.

Everyone except Rendog, who he remembers very strongly as his enemy. This one started as a character study and you can tell, it's very deliberate and mediative with the characters, and it's just slowly growing through the questions of what they do now, and what they do with these relationships they have to people they care so much about and also those people don't remember it.

Benchtrio are Borrowers, and Tubbo gets caught by Emduo! Man, this starts with Tubbo falling into oil and not being able to climb out (he's eventually rescued by Emduo), and it's honestly terrifying. I really felt like I was a tiny creature clinging to a spoon. It continues to play with the fact that Tubbo is just so TINY and defenceless.

MASSIVE sprawling superhero epic digging into power issues, morality, villainy, cohersion, sexism and other 'isms, marching towards an inevitable end. It all ends in tragedy, but oh my god the journey there is so rich and beautifully drawn. Each fic in the series is a different spot on the timeline and you see characters from so many different POVs, as events come into greater focus and you realize what the fuck HAPPENED to break people like that. This is very much a fic to read while spamming the sobbing emoji in the chat with a friend, but oh man I have to see how it all comes together and if ANY of my guys make it out. I don't know if any of my guys make it out! :SOB:

I'm not gonna spoil it but what happens when Joel's dogs show up looking for their master is SO GOOD and SO BAD at the same time.

And They Were Ghosthunters | TNT Duo AU by commaclear Fandom: DSMP Rating: Mature Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings Relationship: Alexis | Quackity/Wilbur Soot Tags: Humor, Hurt/Comfort, Fish out of Water, Alternate Universe - Angels and Demons, Happy Ending Length: 21/21 chapters, 46,984 words

Wilbur Soot is a demon who's tired of being bored in Hell and decided to go to Earth, where he gets a job on a Ghost Hunting show run by a guy named Quackity. Surely he has lots of oppurtunity for sin here! Two problems though: Quackity is really cute and might actually be a genuinely good person and Wilbur is falling for him, and Love is toxic to demons. This one is legitimately so very funny and such a fast read. I sat down to read the first two chapters and then i looked up and I'd read 46k.

Okay so the summary for this one was:

Suspected of betraying the Hero Guild, Apprentice hero Tommy (A.K.A. Blindspot) is put under Security Protocol Catbag: a locked-on noise cancelling mask equipped with truth gas. His mentor, Dream, calls it a necessary teaching tool.

Meanwhile, SBI wants to know why their least favorite loudmouth little Hero has suddenly stopped talking.

And I read that and I was like "supinetothestars is going to get me back into reading tommy-centric superheros", and it's happened. It's so good, the characters are so thoughtful (and feel way more like canon characterizations vs fanon), and they run up against each other in really interesting ways. Wilbur is a paranoid bastard in a way that feels realistic and canon! The superpowers are interesting and interestingly played out (tommy's power is he can make himself unnoticeable!) and the relationships are adhering to tropes enough that they're like, oooooo, what happens next, I have a delightful suspicion, but they are pulled off well enough that they still feel fresh. It's really good.

Double Down by Onelituli Fandom: DSMP Rating: Mature Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings, Major Character Death Relationship: Dream & Tommyinnit & Tubbo, Ranboo & Tommyinnit & Tubbo, Dream & Sapnap & George, Tags: Alternate Universe - Imawa no Kuni no Alice | Alice in Borderland Setting, Rated for Language and Dark Themes, Mystery, Flashbacks, Slow Build, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Heavy Angst, Grief/Mourning, No Villains just Antagonists, Bittersweet Ending Length: 11/13 chapters, 67,663 words

Oh man how even to explain this one. The Dream SMP ensemble is imprisoned in this post-apocolyptic setting where they have to compete in challenges to win cards. The higher the suit of the card, the harder the challenge. And people will die, they are dying, the challenges are killing them. They don't know why they're here or who is making them do this, but all they can do is try and make it together despite a structure that keeps trying to turn them against each other and destroy them. This is structured with lots of flashbacks and mysteries, and the mystery of what HAPPENED to these people is ever-present. And how on earth they possibly make it out of this challenge with even one person alive. This one is such a mystery, I don't know what's HAPPENING but I want to KNOW. And that's it for this month! hi i just want to say that i love almost every single thing you post! i think a lot of the fandom is looking at taylor as an obstacle rather than a stepping stone for buck. the writers have a BEAUTIFUL opportunity here to show buck's growth and unless they write this story to its fullest potential, then it's going to be sort of a let down (and wouldn't make sense to general viewers who don't analyze every single little thing lol). i fully trust the writers and everyone to give us what they want, and 911 does a beautiful job at what i call "planting seeds." it just needs more time

Aww, thanks! Seriously, I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read my little blog entries about the weewoo show. And yes, I agree. Taylor is a part of Buck's story, just like Abby and Ali were. She's here to teach him something. There are mistakes I would rather see Buck make with her than with Eddie. Plus, I love a bad girl with trust issues generally, just not as a love interest for Buck. I wouldn't mind if she stuck around and they were friends after the breakup (someone else pointed out recently that Buck realizing a break-up can end in a friendship would probably make him more confident about approaching Eddie, and I agree, though I think Eddie will do the approaching for various reasons). MW is on my sh*tlist but if I can seperate Ryan from Eddie, I can certainly seperate MW from Taylor.

SSH.NET is a Secure Shell (SSH-2) library for.NET, optimized for parallelism. This project was inspired by Sharp.SSH library which was ported from java and it seems like was not supported for quite some time. This library is a complete rewrite, without any third party dependencies, using parallelism to achieve the best.

This is quite a common task for Linux system administrators, when it is needed to execute some command or a local Bash script from a one Linux workstation or a server on another remote Linux machine over SSH.

Much more often it is required to send multiple commands on a remote server, for example, to collect some data for inventory and get back the result.

There are a lot of different ways of how it can be done, but i will show the most popular of them.

SSH: Run Bash Script on Remote Server

The equally common situation, when there is some Bash script on a Linux machine and it needs to connect from it over SSH to another Linux machine and run this script there.

The idea is to connect to a remote Linux server over SSH, let the script do the required operations and return back to local, without need not to upload this script to a remote server.

Certainly this can be done and moreover quite easily.

Using the Windows 10 OpenSSH client

Important

The Windows OpenSSH client requires that your SSH client host OS is Windows 10 version 1803(17134). Also, the Windows 10 IoT Core device must be running RS5 Windows Insider Preview release 17723 or greater.

The OpenSSH Client was added to Windows 10 in 1803 (build 17134) as an optional feature. To install the client, you can search for Manage Optional Features in Windows 10 settings. If the OpenSSH Client is not listed in the list of installed features, then choose Add a feature.

Next select OpenSSH Client in the list and click Install.

To login with a username and password use the following command:

Where host is either the IP address of the Windows IoT Core device or the device name.

The first time you connect you see a message like the following:

Type yes and press enter.

If you need to login as DefaultAccount rather than as administrator, you will need to generate a key and use the key to login. From the desktop that you intend to connect to your IoT Device from, open a PowerShell window and change to your personal data folder (e.g cd ~)

Register the key with ssh-agent (optional, for single sign-on experience). Note that ssh-add must be performed from a folder that is ACL'd to you as the signed-in user (BuiltinAdministrators and the NT_AUTHORITYSystem user are also ok). By default cd ~ from PowerShell should be sufficient as shown below.

Tip

If you receive a message that the ssh-agent service is disabled you can enable it with sc.exe config ssh-agent start=auto

To enable single sign, append the public key to the Windows IoT Core device authorized_keys file. Or if you only have one key you copy the public key file to the remote authorized_keys file.

If the key is not registered with ssh-agent, it must be specified on the command line to login:

If the private key is registered with ssh-agent, then you only need to specify DefaultAccount@host:

The first time you connect you see a message like the following:

Type yes and press enter.

You should now be connected as DefaultAccount

To use single sign-on with the administrator account, append your public key to c:dataProgramDatasshadministrators_authorized_keys on the Windows IoT Core device.

You will also need to set the ACL for administrators_authorized_keys to match the ACL of ssh_host_dsa_key in the same directory.

If you see a REMOTE HOST IDENTIFICATION CHANGED message after making changes to the Windows 10 IoT Core device, then edit C:Users<username>.sshknown_hosts and remove the host that has changed.

In order to connect to your device using SSH, you'll first need to download an SSH client, such as PuTTY.

In order to connect to your device, you need to first get the IP address of the device. After booting your Windows IoT Core device, an IP address will be shown on the screen attached to the device:

Now launch PuTTY and enter the IP address in the Host Name text box and make sure the SSH radio button is selected. Then click Open.

If you're connecting to your device for the first time from your computer, you may see the following security alert. Just click Yes to continue.

If the connection was successful, you should see login as: on the screen, prompting you to login. Enter Administrator and press enter. Then enter the default password p@ssw0rd as the password and press enter.

If you were able to login successfully, you should see something like this:

It is highly recommended that you update the default password for the Administrator account.

To do this, enter the following command in the PuTTY console, replacing [new password] with a strong password:

Configure your Windows IoT Core device

To be able to deploy applications from Visual Studio 2017, you will need to make sure the Visual Studio Remote Debugger is running on your Windows IoT Core device. The remote debugger should launch automatically at machine boot time. To double check, use the tlist command to list all the running processes from PowerShell. There should be two instances of msvsmon.exe running on the device.

It is possible for the Visual Studio Remote Debugger to time out after long periods of inactivity. If Visual Studio cannot connect to your Windows IoT Core device, try rebooting the device.

If you want, you can also rename your device. To change the 'computer name', use the setcomputername utility:

You will need to reboot the device for the change to take effect. You can use the shutdown command as follows:

no I don’t feel like I can’t speak my true opinions. let’s break this down.

i think it’s always important to recognise the kind of comment you want to make & your expectations around the responses to them.

subjective comments: arguments around subjective views will never reach a conclusion because it’s subjective. eg. you prize a correct edge & jumping technique. that won’t convince a zhenya fan who loves her musicality enough to disregard those flaws. both these viewpoints are okay to have bc they’re subjective. you’re allowed to simply like a skater while fully acknowledging they’re not perfect (eg. kaetlyn) or without any reason (sometimes you just viscerally like/dislike them!). some people like having friends with differing viewpoints, others might only want a tlist that speaks positively of their fave and you kind of just have to accept that the latter may unfollow you. I always perceived of my tlist to be the former type and while I can’t control what others do, I really hope that’s the impression I give off, even if I sometimes may speak jokingly/hyperbolically abt eg. liking LGC. 

either way, I guarantee you’ll find other people who share your view even if they may (sometimes) be smaller in number. isn’t that better than pretending to like someone you don’t, just to fit in?

i don’t always share what I feel publicly precisely because some of it is subjective & will start pointless discourse. that’s just risk calculation. you can’t control what other people say or do, you can only control your own environment. block or mute people if you need to or save certain comments for more private, controlled environments where you trust the people involved. people who attack others are not right, but they’ll always be there. if you’re noticing that you’re consistently getting attacked despite taking those measures, either you have some really sad persistent antis or it might be worth self-examining to see if you’re doing any of the stuff below (which would - sometimes justifiably - cause people to call you out).  my policy is also to never post anything I wouldn’t say to a skater’s face and/or would be ashamed for them to read

veiled subjective comments: cause lot of discourse because it’s framed as an ‘objective’ comment but actually just thinly veiled dislike and it’s usually hypocritical or cherry-picking evidence (eg. ‘hanyu’s way too old to be winning more medals’ and never applies the same criticism to eg. kolyada). I think it’s understandable why those sorts of comments piss people off, even if arguing is kind of futile so I usually ignore them (but sometimes I can’t resist poking at the gaping holes in their “logical” arguments)

‘loaded comments’: it’s obnoxious when people engage in ‘loaded’ topics/questions (eg. X deserved to win, X was over/underscored) that go against the general narrative without substance to back up their claims or engaging with existing arguments (eg. people claiming alina won fairly w/o addressing the PCS inflation surrounding her all season. there are valid arguments to be made to offset that, but if you don’t address them, you come across as more ignorant than persuasive).  If you can’t engage properly (eg. if someone’s pulling out stats and data to argue why X is underscored and you're like ‘no X is overscored’ w/o substantive arguments of your own), it’s better not to start the fire/engage or at least start the fire in the comfort of your own home - privately - if all you wanted to do was bask in its warm glow and not have to deal with people angry that you’re starting a fire in the forest, if you’ll allow me to painfully extend the metaphor. public twitter is not a ‘private’ place.  critical comments: constructive/critical takes are generally not personal attacks so you shouldn’t feel afraid to post that, but there’s a line where criticism (even valid criticism of eg. scoring) becomes nasty. And if you’re downright wishing for other skaters to fall or being happy abt skaters’ injuries so your faves can win, that’s gross behaviour and you should expect to be called out for it if you post it publicly (and just generally just really unsportsmanlike thinking)
