I’ve been seeing a bunch of posts comparing Lucanis’ relationship with Spite to Anders and Justice. I just wanted to toss some of my thoughts out. Warnings for vague discussions of Veilguard :)
In canon we have three companions who are possessed by spirits. Wynne, when you get to know her better, tells you she thinks she’s possessed by a spirit of faith. During the time you know her, she’s very devout in her beliefs. She believes in the warden and their mission. She believes in the Circle’s ability to teach mages to control their magic (as naive as that is). So, it’s safe to say the spirit within her was able to keep to its purpose; faith.
The same can be said for Spite. During the game, Spite is able to fulfill his purpose. He can be catty, he can quite literally murder a ton of people, and he’s able to enact revenge on people who fuck with him and Lucanis. Lucanis and Spite start off rocky but during the game, are able to find an understanding. Lucanis can keep him ‘under control’ because he’s not pushing Spite to stay quiet and not fulfill his initial propose.
That brings me to Anders and Justice. They quite literally live in arguably the most cursed location in Thedas. Kirkwall is literally built on the blood of slaves. They’re constantly surrounded by suffering of the people Anders cares about and those Justice swore to save. There’s abuses happening out in the open. How could that possibly not tear Justice apart? To be forced to sit back and do the bare minimum in the face of injustice and oppression?
I don’t think Justice turned into a demon. I don’t think Anders was corrupted or unable to control Justice. But I do think that the fact that they weren’t allowed to do more tore them up inside. Justice’s literal nature had to be locked away so they wouldn’t be discovered. He had to hold himself back for so long. They tried and tried and tried for YEARS to make a change in a nonviolent way, all the while Justice must have ached with what was happening around them!
I don’t even have a real point to this post. Just tossing some of my feelings out there as I see people making ‘controlling your demons’ memes 😂

I realize Silco is a villain, he’s straight up a *bad guy*…. But why did they design him to be so hot?? 😩

For my fenders/justfenders besties, I’m thinking about Justice and Fenris being jealous of each other.
Justice is jealous because Fenris gets to interact with Anders body in a way Justice will never be able to. Plus, he’s able to protect Anders from Templars far better than Justice can because Justice tends to be a last minute resort when things are dire. Plus that spirit is ROMANTIC and is jealous that Fenris gets to have the space to surprise Anders or present him with romantic gestures when he can’t!
Fenris on the other hand is jealous because Justice gets to be intimate in a way Fenris will never be able to experience. He gets to experience Anders softness and kindness just by sharing headspace with him. And he protects Anders from his inner demons when Fenris can’t seem to reach him.
I like to think that they eventually come to a mutual understanding and respect for each other and their place in Anders life, and seeing the way they both care for Anders makes them realize their affections towards each other as well. When these two finally team up, oh boy, Anders is in for an awakening 🤣 he’s gonna be loved and cared for whether he’s ready for it or not!

I was playing through The Darkspawn Chronicles tonight and now I can’t stop thinking about a certain interaction.
When you’re in the marketplace, you can try to attack Herren and Wade. BUT, Herren stops you by transforming into a desire demon and then muttering about how ‘you’ve ruined everything!’ Before teleporting away with Wade.
(Now I understand the wiki says that’s not *actually* canon… but fuck that 🤣)
My brain is taking this concept and rotating it around like it’s in the microwave. What does this mean for the world? Like demons are capable of just *being* out of the Fade living life? We already know spirits can hitch a ride in someone’s body without them being turned into an abomination, but now we have an actual demon, wearing someone’s face, just living as a merchant with their husband.
I have no idea where I’m going with this only that I find the entire concept fascinating.
