This is probably gonna be a weird one, so here goes:

I'm not ace and (probably) not aro, but I haven't had any luck in with non-platonic relationships (largely due to my own social anxiety). I'm 19 and I haven't gone on a date or kissed anybody.

I used to feel really ashamed/lesser bc of that, still struggle with that sometimes (societal standards are a hell of a drug) but what's helped me largely feel better about this is talking to and being around aspec folks :)

Seeing people talking about allonormativity and amatonormativity, that worth isn't defined by relationships, that I'm not "childish" or "falling behind", has helped me so much, as well as just being around other people who haven't had any romantic/sexual experiences.

I beat myself up for "failing" these social standards, but by that standard most of my close friends have failed too! But I would never be so cruel to think any of the shit I've thought about myself about someone else, especially not one of my beloved friends. If anyone told one of my friends anything like that, I'd kill them! So if the standards are nonsense, why am I being so cruel to myself?

Being surrounded by aspec people always makes me feel at home (maybe partly bc my childhood friend group turned out to be me and 3 aroaces, so being the token allo is just the dynamic I'm used to lol)

Aspec people are not just part of the queer community, they are important and valued and crucial for conversations of queer theory.

Anyway I don't know what I'm doing here and this is probably super weird (sorry), I just wanted to share and say how grateful I am. For aspec people existing, for the aspec people in my life, for every person who's ever written a Tumblr post pushing back against allonormativity/amatonormativity: thank you from the bottom of my heart

This is so well said, Anon. I think media makes people think everyone who wants to is hitting these kinds of milestones before they're done high school, but it's actually a lot more common than most people realise to get around to them as adults.

Similarly I think a lot of people are harder on themselves than others, but we deserve kindness for ourselves too.

Actually thinking of that tma post (the one I just reblogged, I'll link it later I'm on mobile rn) in terms of neurodivergency made me think of the old "are asexuals immune to sirens" debate on here. Bc. Neither the tma entities nor sirens are real so the creator gets to decide how they work and I think it can be really interesting both ways depending on What Your Story Is About.

bc what it comes down to is: are the entities and/or sirens trying to catch YOU, or are they trying to cast the widest possible net?

iirc the original siren post was arguing that, because sirens are preying on the Horniness Of Sailors, asexuals should be able to hear them without being affected; and the response was that in the Odyssey, the sirens aren't (just) offering sex, they're offering knowledge or whatever, because that's what Odysseus, the one hearing them, is least able to resist.

And, listen, I don't need to tell YOU the appeal of sirens as a device by which characters can be bullied into revealing their deepest most secret desires, we've all ready pjo. But I do think there is ALSO interesting worldbuilding and story potential in horniness-based sirens!!

Like. From a worldbuilding perspective. If I'm making the rules, maybe my sirens can't read minds—or maybe they can, but sensing desires and/or altering their illusory forms takes enough energy that it just isn't efficient to make a brand new lure for every individual prey item. And they ARE preying on sailors, mostly men, mostly men who have been at sea with other men getting dirtier and dirtier for months—a clean, inviting, sexy lady is a pretty smart lure to go for, if you're trying to appeal to the Highest Number of Individuals.

Which, like, listen: I'm a simple (queer aspec) man, I LIKE a scene where the one or two people on the ship who aren't attracted to women have to scramble to save everybody else's straight/allo ass. And then what? If your ship makes it back to port, do they tell people what happened? Does it become common practice to bring somebody who doesn't want to fuck women on every long voyage? That's fun! How sapient are your sirens? Enough to notice that this is a problem, and get curious about why their hunting strategy isn't working on this One Guy? If sirens have a different concept of gender and sexuality than their prey, how long does it take them to figure out what the fuck is going on? That's fun too!!

So a couple years ago i had 2 friends. At the time, i was identifying as bi, my one friend (i’ll call her L) was identifying as aro/ace and another friend was also identifying as bi (i’ll call her B). Anyways, so one day B reaches out to me like hey, you experience romantic attraction right? And i was like yes? and so she’s like yeah so i’m trying to figure out if i’m aromantic can you like. explain how you tell if the feeling you’re experiencing is romantic or not.

I BLANKED. solid 5 mins of like UHHHH because i Do Not Know (because, spoiler alert, i’m aro/ace) and i wound up pointing her towards L, like here go talk to her about the Lack of Attraction thing, and B came out as aro/ace a few days later.

fast forwards to to today. I am aro/ace, B is bi, and L is lesbian. Out of the 2 aro/aces in my friend group i, the token allo person, am the ONLY ARO/ACE OF THE 3 OF US. Irony.

To me the issue is that it's not written sensitively. It's like seeing a fic that's supposed to be representation for my disability except none of the actual problems I face are being discussed. It's tokenism at best. At worst, it's erasure because it presents a stereotyped version that isn't at all a reflection of why it matters to identify as aspec.

If that ace isn't navigating issues of enthusiastic consent and if that aro isn't navigating issues of being expected to want a relationship, I don't want to hear it from an alloromantic author. And how dare an alloromantic author write an aro who falls in love in the end? Just don't. It's insensitive as hell. It's the same as writing a disabled character and then fixing their disability at the end. That's not representation, it's erasure.

And allo authors, unless that canonically aspec character is canonically demi, DO NOT write them as demi if you're not aspec. Seriously. Because I can't see any way where that isn't going to be erasure. If you don't know what it's like to realize that you are ace or demi you aren't going to have the ability to write it sensitively.

Honestly, Tim is entranced by women throughout his Post-Crisis tenure (Ariana, Shiva, Lynx, Steph, etc.) + he receives a lot of attention in return, but he never wants to initiate anything sexual with them. Even when they want to. Part of this should be attributed out-of-universe to DC standards of celibacy for those heroes who were meant to be role models to kids. But in-universe, it seems like Tim likes girls romantically but has zero interest in non-kissing sexual activity with those girls. Maybe that could be put down to him just not feeling ready, but I like to think he's ace.

Now onto guys... Tim is really not interested in men in canon before he comes out as bi in Rebirth. Yet he is obsessed with Dick Grayson in his early years + he does get obsessed with Kon in the 2000s, + I think both of these are compelling pieces of evidence toward Tim's biromanticism. Specifically, Tim seems interested in Kon not during their Young Justice run (1998-2003), but from the moment Winick has Tim + Kon get dressed in a closet together as a wink-wink nudge-nudge to the audience (Titans/YJ: Graduation Day (2003)). Before the 2010s, since asexuality wasn't much known about, some fans said that Tim was gay b/c he didn't want to fuck women. (Yeah, I know. It's dumb.) Regardless, after this moment, he has a far more meaningful relationship with Kon, going so far as to get obsessed with 'fixing' his death via unethical clone experimentations. Part of this could be attributed to Tim's grief, but since a recent comic (I cannot remember which) made it canon that Tim had a latent crush on Kon back then, I think it's fair to read romantic interest into these actions. Other fans point to Tim's interactions with Lonnie + Ives, but I'm going to be honest + say I read all of them + they seemed like average straight boy x straight boy interactions to me. So, in conclusion, Tim's like a 1 on the Kinsey Scale (outdated, but you get the meme) but the few men he crushes on (Dick, Kon), he gets obsessive about.

And he isn't interested in having sex with anyone.

Onto your next point -> I support you in saying everyone's aspec. Dick as demisexual + straight = completely agree, I am shaking your hand right now, you are unfathomably correct. Though I see Jay as gay, I've already read your detailing of aroace Jason + support you in that. Damian, I haven't thought about at all but I can see him as aspec, sure. Thumbs up. Cass I think is allo + bisexual b/c she's canonically sexually attracted to Black Wind, + I think she's attracted to Steph as well. Some fans cast her as a lesbian instead which... I won't go into how fandom moralises lesbianism as the 'best' sexuality b/c it doesn't feature men, but I'll just say that I think it's important that Black Wind is the first person/body she's attracted to. And that the fandom's erasure of this feels a little racist to me. Finally, I believe Bruce is bisexual (heavy preference for women, same as Tim), but unlike Tim, I cannot believe Bruce is aspec. If only b/c of how frequently he is overcome by sexual attraction to random women he barely knows. Of course, he definitely has a complicated relationship with his sexuality b/c of the whole Brucie Wayne situation, but I don't think the issue he gets tangled up about is thinking he's aspec.

Re LRB. Tim is ace to me. From canon (1989-2025) he seems like he’s biromantic asexual with a preference for women but a tendency to only obsess over men. He’s got that duality. 👍
