thinking about something @ocelly said a while back about writing and editing using different parts of the brain/serving different parts of the creative process- and fundamentally that mindset has been invaluable to me.
unfortunately, my brain has been coasting in editing/refining/polishing mode for a while now and I really need it to shift gears into creative/generative/productive mode. don't get me wrong, I genuinely love the editing process! I'd forgotten how much fun it can be to tease out the right words/meaning from something. I really would have been a very happy copyeditor in another universe.
But there's a whole laundry list of shit that I need done, not polished, and the problem with engaging Editing Brain is that it's hard to convince it that I can live without absolute perfection for a while. You can't polish an empty document, asshole! Get the words on the page first and then worry about the details later.

ngl its a limited way of interacting with media if you can only engage with it thru the lens of projection. not saying this is a 'lesser' form of engagement or its 'wrong'—im not going to act obtuse, to some extent, we all project our lived experiences onto the media we like so we form a deeper attachment to it. thats completely normal, thats what art is supposed to work but eventually, you'll hit a wall with a piece of media you wont able able to slot in your own lived experience with the story or characters. sometimes. the choices that you (the viewer) would make, will be incompatible with the choices that blorbo (the character) would make. which thats fine, sometimes the characters can't be extensions of you (the viewer) and thats fine.

reminder that if you live in north america, do not plant lily of the valley, orange daylilies, bradford pears, japanese barberry, or english ivy.
they are invasive, they will choke out everything else and spread like crazy, and they are evil. find a native solution! even a non-native, but non-invasive solution is better; but native plants will greatly benefit local pollinators and not destroy your garden beds!
(there are a litany of other invasive plants that make my fall to my knees and shake my fists to the sky in home depot when I see them for sale, but these are my Main Personal Enemies.)

i love when i go on a worldbuilding tangent with a character and just add a whole new goofy dimension to their character. Like ok. i have an OC who is a sort of undead mummy thing. he got mummified by victorian occultists and the reanimation rituals didnt kick in until some teenagers found him by total accident in a warehouse in like, the 90s. Anyway the important part is he can spiritually bond with cars

It’s never fun when you have to throw a project in the bin for things out with your control… here’s the tooled pieces before the accident (yes that round headed knife is sharp- it cuts leather like butter… and will take fingers too.)
Tried a new tool (not the knife), that’s supposed to have been a step up from my previous, cause you know leather tools are EXPENSIVE and instead of making my holes for stitching, it got stuck in my project and Actually tore my 6-7 oz thick tooling leather in the process and it completely shredded the 3-4 oz it was stuck to.
My cheap beginner Tandy ones do not do this. I’ve hand sewn 13 oz leather after using them to make my holes, and NEVER have I had to actually torque and twist my leather to get those punches out. A light pull is all it takes.
I then tried them on 3-4oz only and they also got stuck and refused to let go of the leather.
Like???
So yeah- bought a more expensive tool ages back, finally had the gumption to try it and it screwed me over.
Whomp whomp.
Will revisit this one later, but I’m working on a different project now.

Was having so much fun replaying p3p that I forgot that this game is bad lol
#the klock keeps ticking#i gotta get my ranting gear on its happening again#just got to the part where its revealed that shadow experiments happened at the school 10 years prior#and yeah its as badly written as I remember lol#like first off it really is just kinda like ‘ah yes the kirijo group experimented on kids and created the dark hour and we’re being#recruited to clean up their mess’ and the only one who seems to care is yukari but then like#oooh she cant be mad after all cuz her dad was in on it or whatever#and my favorite fucking guy Ikutski is there with a smile like ah yes yes the fucked up shit ah well anyways lets keep fighting lol#and its like briefly mentioned so fucking casually that mitsurus family involved her in this shit and forced her to awaken to a persona#when she was like 8 and you know. now she has to act as a tool to clean up their mess#and it’s like hold up now. why arent we talking about this aaaaaaa just gonna drop that bomb and leave#my favorite fucking part though is like afterwards all the little scenes we get of the characters processing this information#none really seeming to care all that much about the fucked up part theyre just like ‘damn the dark hour is gonna end’#and we get some of that iconic p3 dialogue where characters just look into the camera and explain their trauma before walking away#akihiko just goes up to shinji to be like ‘hey lol remember that we’re both orphans and thats how we know each other and also my sister#anyway Keep Looking Forward™️ bye’ and then fuuka looks into the camera like#‘yes btw my parents have an inferiority complex and thats why they abuse me which is why i dont mind being manipulated’#like she just. says that its so funny this game was written by a toaster#its so frustrating cuz the conflict could be so interesting but they handle it soooo boring and ignore all the parts that shouldnt be#oh mitsuru dont worry ill write you a better game to be in#come to the fat lesbian party where we kill the kirijo group with hammers

Oh and to be clear with my beastieball team building I have gone into the game basically completely blind so I am just working off of what I've seen within the game for hypothetical team building
#rat rambles#I Really need to look into the various ocean beasties more I know very little abt how they play#Im also starting to feel like what I rly need is a much more pure tank sort of unit#because while stalling can back me in a corner rn I also am sometimes able to stall enough to back back out of the corner#so if I could do that more consistently and with less need for constant pivots that could be something#and in situations in which youre underleveled stalling power is usually more valuable than firepower#since y'know. your firepower isn't very powerful and if you dont have stalling power then you just sort of instantly die#but firepower still is very important you just need to be able to stay alive while you chip#I think rly my favorite thing so far has been learning how the battle ais tick and trying to manipulate it through observation#which is again why my team has been a very pivot heavy team as its often about cycling through guys with different weaknesses to keep the#opponents attention off of my main chip damage in any given fight#so yknow thank god I haven't encountered another trap team yet#again this isnt ideal for me since my guys very much do not benefit from the conatant pivoting#well ok one of the weakness trio does but the other two very much do not like not being able to set up#in particular nikola my moth guy who is a valuable pivot tool and does ok damage but is definitely the standout as the most replaceable#mostly because he is basically completely incapable of utilizing any of his gimmicks since he spends so little time on the field#which the only reason I kept him on the team during the initial planning phase of the team was that I figured he could synergize with#gossmann (the dragonfly) and ideally be a decent set up dps#but he ultimately just never gets the room to set up so he ends up being the least interesting to use#because even though my other picky dps struggles a bit with the constant switching they at least get to use their gimmicks#they only need to get into the front row while nikola needs to have room to use set up moves#which he almost never does#I do like him tho dont get me wrong I just think if I need to bring someone new in to remedy some of my issues hes getting the boot#I think I mostly just rly need someone who doesn't need any set up and isnt position picky#just someone to bring some consistency that this team is desperately needing
