famously difficult-to-please anatomy prof pulled me aside at the end of class to tell me she didn't even need to collect my homework bc it was 5s in all categories (best grade she gives) and that im a great artist and i work hard :))) i am winning at art school!!!

#i love this prof unironically bc yes she'll rip you to shreds but that makes the compliments SO MUCH BETTER #this is vindicating too because i spent 9 literal hours on that homework. LMAO #personal #for extra context i took another class with this prof last year and over like 20 assignments i NEVER got full 5s. this woman is TOUGH

bisexuality and maybe even polyamory win: the automated thai > english translation has no clue what to do with this gender neutral thai word, so it translates two lines from the same singer to mean that he wants a boyfriend in one sentence and a girlfriend in the immediate next

#out of all the extremely predictable endlessly occuring translation oddities i keep seeing this is an easy favorite!#throw a passage of text into the translation box and watch it get hit with the queerification beam. Powered By Google (of all things)#see also outputs like. 'the little sister did a good job. he is very pretty'#where 'little sister' was originally a gender neutral term for a person younger than the speaker and 'he' a gender neutral pronoun #and in context they very obviously refer to the same person. congratulations! you have been assigned It's Complicated by big tech #*#i've been thinking about gender and sexuality in translation #because you take these concepts (incredibly complicated incredibly cultural incredibly personal incredibly human things)#and then you try to capture them in the words of a language (an impossible task in and of itself)#and THEN you take those imperfect representations and do statistically supported computer translation on them #or even actual human translation. that's tough enough #and. like. the mona lisa is not an actual human woman but she has the shape of one.#but if i made you a crayon drawing of her would you still recognize him?#how many layers of abstraction before the ship of theseus is now a skateboard?

ayy finally someone else who also thinks Gordon got mistreated at black mesa. Like, he's a 27 yr old with a PhD in theoretical physics. u essentially have to be a one-in-a-million genius to do that.

And they put this guy on lab tech duty?? the fuck? Something's fucky about this company I tell ya.

Also just the fact he was so much younger than the other scientists like. I feel like other people were almost jealous that he got in so much earlier than they did, or felt like Black Mesa was "just hiring anybody" at that point. felt he didn't deserve to be there.

Pretty much the only scientists (that gordon hung around) that didn't act that way towards him were Eli and Kleiner. Barney and Gordon actually bonded over both of them feeling like they're looked at weirdly by other employees, though I will say Barney and the other guards get the brunt of the disrespect, along with Maintenance workers. (LITERAL blue collar workers in the security team's case)

#asks are neat #gordon freeman #Also I imagine some people thought. someone that is Mute shouldn't work in a place like Black Mesa.#Despite the fact that Gordon can easily be accommodated for and doesn't NEED a ton of communication with his assigned jobs #Ableism mention #for those last tags #I dunno I think quite a few scientists are rude. Not all of them absolutely not. but some are pretty stuck up #and refuse to think a 27 year old has the same skill level as them #Gordon had a tough time even before the rescas. but he'd take the borderline teasing over the horrors of the rescas any day

Locked myself in the paper writing dungeon for the past 5 hours or so(well and the entire academic dungeon for the past day as a whole) and now I am back out in the sunlight !!!!

I'm dying though, I was joking to my friend earlier about how I was def gonna end up submitting the final paper for our class at some absurd time. So he threw out a very specific arbitrary time, and guys. Guess what. Guess what time I submitted the paper, completely by accident. Guess what time, guys.
