as a break from playing Tales of Zestiria (which I've yet to finish), I decided to play some more chill, relaxing games. namely Dead Cells (totally "relaxing"), Islanders, and Dorfromantik (which is in early access). well, I'm only talking about two of these three.
my go-to chill games are ones that I can take my time to think and micro-manage. and oh boy does Islanders and Dorfromantik make me think.
but as it says on their respective Steam pages, you won't find any 4X strategy or resource management or combat or some cinematic story (I will say that some of the graphics can get real pretty).
now here's my piece on them:
let's start with Islanders.

it's a super great minimal city builder. I love the aesthetic and the style. it's got some really slick building rules where the buildings interact with each other and you gotta get the plus-minus leaning way over the plus. I like Islanders as something to play when I just wanna lean back, chill with some music in the background and play something stress-free.
will recommend for those who want something that you can coast through while chilling out.
now Dorfromantik is a different beast.

the style is just as lovable. especially the trees and the houses. the little boats and trains move on the rivers and tracks. it's great. while Dorfromantik might seem like simple tile placement, once you get into a deep run (which I would say is about 9000+ points), you're gonna get really focused. not only do you have to pay attention to all six sides of a piece for that perfect, "chef's kiss"-like placement, you have to keep in mind the pieces you have left, the tasks you have open, and the parts you need to close.
Dorfromantik gives me both a greater feeling of satisfaction, but also a greater frustration. the randomized tiles just irks me, at times giving me the opposite of what I need. and those river/track tile mix are the bane of my existence. makes me feel like I'm bad at the game, tho that may definitely be the case.
will recommend for those who love overthinking every single tile placement.
either way, both are great games and if you have even an inkling (haha, get it?) of interest in these types of games, go for it.

Whenever I don't feel like making game clearing progress I've been playing this game called Dorfromantik by Toukana Interactive.

It's a relaxing tile placement city builder where you try to go for a high score and complete challenges to get more tiles to keep on playing. I like seeing your city go from a single tile to this sprawling large landscape with rivers, forrests, and settlements. I get a kick out of city builders like this :)
It's a fun game. The zen feel of the game mixed with the ambience is just a nice chill time and jd reccomend it to anyone looking for a new puzzle game tk just vibe with. It's only 15 bucks too so it isn't that pricy. I very much reccomend it

Dorfromantik: In Tea’s Words
After a long, hard day at the café, I come home to cosy up in front of my computer. What better way to spend an evening than blankets on, brightness down, and playing my favourite simple city builder...
Dorfromantik is an Early Access game, developed by Toukana Interactive. Much like Townscaper and ISLANDERS, it is making a name for itself in this genre of scenic, city-building strategy games. With its distinct focus on style and soundtrack, layered onto easy-to-grasp game mechanics, Dorfromantik is the perfect game to pick up and play when you want to relax.

The core premise involves building and expanding your world through the use of hexagonal tiles. Each tile can have a range of structures on it: for example, houses, trees, or fields. Rotate and place your tiles in order to construct different areas and fulfil ‘quests’, which require a certain number of these structures. For example, you may unearth a quest in your stack of tiles that needs 10+ houses to be completed. Simply join this tile to ten or more other houses to complete it, and earn yourself some points! Easy to learn, hard to master… As you become more adept at the game, you may want to work towards “perfect” tiles: tiles which are matched on all sides by the correct biomes. It’s a game that requires a lot of patience, forcing us to slow down and think carefully.
Still being in Early Access, there are some features yet to be released; the biggest complaint of an airhead like me is the lack of an undo feature, though this is set to come out in a future update. In spite of this, the game more than delivers on what it promises. Not only is the experience relaxing, but it is incredibly rewarding. The choice of sound effects give you a rush of accomplishment when you hear the tell-tale sound of a completed quest or perfect tile. The soundtrack has enough variety that it doesn’t become boring, but each track is recognisable enough to stand apart from one another. The art style, combined with the addition of different colour palettes which appear randomly in your game, creates a great sense of scale to your world as it grows.
Dorfromantik isn’t short on achievements either, for those of you that love to achievement hunt like me! Even during development, it already has 80+ unlocks, with more likely to come with the addition of more tile types in future updates.
Anyone looking for a way to unwind from a busy day, but not looking to escape into a story-heavy world, will no doubt find the same comfort in this game that I do!
Well, I best be off! What? No, of course I’m going to be working! Yes… definitely…
