How come Rooster Teeth's other shows do not get as much hate as RWBY does?
There are SEVEN Reasons why RWBY gets all this hate.
Hbomberguy lying. Prior to Hbomberguy's hate video? RWBY videos were ranking in tens and hundreds of thousands of views. Videos were mostly accurate. Then Hbomberguy made a 3-hour hate video that could be debunked with 5-10 minutes of google search. Everyone began hating RWBY because the bald neck-bearded man who made hate videos encouraged people to hate the writers and the show by spreading misinformation. And the people who did do the google searches were drowned out by mob mentality of ignorance, the mob ignorance that is hbomberguy's audience. And so that misinformation spread like wildfire. And from his hate video, others were inspired. MangaKamen was the next, who kept screaming that he was a victim of the RWBY Fandom and encouraged people to pay him to make anti-rwby hate videos in which he made his BS. As a result, anti-rwby videos swarmed youtube, drowning out the positivity. And hatred grows on Youtube and Twitter. And you don't want to wade through several tons of hate videos just to reach a good RWBY Video or channel. So Hbomberguy created an atmosphere of hate that drowns out positivity.
2. Money Hatred is a popular business. Just ask the various hate groups funded by JK Rowling's video game Hogwarts Legacy. Ask the GOP who fleece their constituents for money. Ask the youtubers who make hate video after video, not only pulling in youtube ad revenue, but also promoting a patreon so that their followers can pay them to hate further. Judgmental Critter has been called out by many for using RWBY over all her "other content" in making money. type in RWBY without using a channel blocker extension on your phone or youtube browser. All you'll see is that hate. Celtic Phoenix demanded money to make a fixit fanfic in which he promotes the patriarchy and toxic masculinity. Hate, lies money....all created through hating on RWBY.
3. Misogyny You knew this would be brought up. I will die on the hill that the reason so many neckbeards hate RWBY is because: It took a very fanservice concept (girls fighting monsters) and gave them stories, personalities, development, and Bechdel-passing relationships, while it took two male power fantasies (gritty edgelord who uses prolific violence and morally grey actions to pursue a noble goal, and tactical mastermind who makes difficult sacrifices for The Mission) and made them failures. It gave women the roles typically held by men. It eliminated mansplaining and made MEN, instead of women, the target of "Reason why you suck" speeches. It made women equal to men in brains and brawn. It took toxic masculinity and shat on it. Many men and women who defend the patriarchy and spit at feminism were furious at RWBY being a genuinely feminist show. So much so, they spread lies and attacked the writers and VAs. Vexed Viewer harassed Barbara Dunkelman. TheFloofArtist harassed both Barbara Dunkelman AND Arryn Zech, by spamming gore and snuff fanart towards the VAs. Judgmental Critter harassed Arryn Troche. Fatman Falling stalked and harassed a girl who talked on Twitter about liking RWBY. Hbomberguy repeatedly harassed miles and kerry. EruptionFang publicly lied and said that Miles and Kerry were bullied by fans into providing "crotch snot". Four female protagonists. The men are just side characters to serve the women's roles. When people say that their "fanfiction is better than the show" You won't see female protagonists by themselves. No, you'll see them as arm candy to a white male savior protagonist who tells women that they suck and saves the day with the power of toxic masculinity while straightwashing every woman in sight. White Male OCs....doesn't quite work well in the later volumes, which is why many people hate the post-beacon era, because the non-school setting focuses on women and takes away chances for the white straight male self-insert.
4. Being an asshole/Victim Complex For RWBY Haters, the ability to lie, hate, harm, and all the while claim they are victims. It brings out the worst in people online. The horrible pleasure people take in destroying what a small company has worked so hard to make. The desire to rant and complain and insult a show and its fandom while calling yourself a fan as some sort of shield to defend oneself from being called a hater in the same breath as telling people to stop watching RWBY or saying"rwby bad". The insistence that you cannot enjoy a show unless you tear it apart and refuse to give a fair respectful positive take. Look on youtube comments and you will see RWBY Critics harassing RWBY Fans. Look on Twitter, and see men and women attacking the animators and writers. Now putting words in dead man's mouth is nothing new, just ask GOP. But the RWBY Haters deify Monty because Hbomberguy used said dead man, who Hbomb insulted while alive, in order to be awful. That's why rwby haters use the word "toxic positivity". They want to make it seem that their victims are the evil ones, to silence them from speaking up. Its why "Valid criticism" is BS. Its an excuse used to spread hatred and call that hatred "criticism". MangaKamen makes yearly videos insulting RWBY. ONE PERSON insulted him...ONE. He screamed bloody murder and accused the entire fandom. The word "toxic positivity" means that anyone defending RWBY is unable to take criticism, and that anyone speaking up is toxic. While "valid criticism" means that the worst lies against RWBY and the fandom can be seen as legitimate, which again allows people to be their worst selves. Men and women alike have the power to be this inhumane. Worst part is that you don't even have to be conservative to be this evil. Have you noticed how much RWDE and R/RWBYCritics love to be "holier than thou" with their attitudes and act as if they are "saving others from RWBY" and its fandom?
5. Homophobia. Bumbleby is basically Korrasami but better. It introduces the interest in each other sooner. It has the women talk to each other and support each other. Both the writers and animators and even Voice Actresses all support Bumbleby. Its completely opposite from ATLA where the VAs supported the toxic ship that is Zutara. But? Two women can spend entire seasons together, people will call them "just friends" but a man expresses interest in a woman and talks to her for several minutes? "Its true love". Even better, Coeur Al Aran, who admits to never watching RWBY and makes fixit fanfics that replace women with men as protags and straightwashes everything? He saw adam cut off yang's arm, and decided to make an adam fanfic where adam sleeps with yang and blake is abusive to adam. The hatred of adam and jaune fanfic writers towards bumbleby is so toxic, those who write jaunexteam rwby or adam fanfics have mostly been found to be homophobic/misogynistic. Despite all of Yang and Blake's interactions, people insist that Sun is "entiteld" to Blake, and that Yang and Blake's relationship came out of nowhere...or is "woke and pandering". Also, if you've seen that hentai artists on twitter LOVE to make fanart of a male self-insert with lesbians.... Its a sick fetish of theirs, and its not just RWBY that suffers this, but Honkai Star Rail suffered that from HimeHingHoi or some artist who drew a white male self-insert knocking up two lesbians.
6. Headcanons- "Your show isn't doing what I imagined it to be doing, and since its not doing what I think its supposed to be doing, that makes it bad" Adam introduced trying to kill civilians in the black trailer and in season 2 tells Cinder that he will persuade the White Fang to keep dying for her cause. People are angry that in V3 he is an irredeemable mass murdering psycho. Ironwood introduced as a man who merges huntsmen system into his own private army, gets ozpin fired by going behind oz's back, and weaponizes the human soul into an android that he uses the vytal festival to test. And despite having two seats of power, does nothing to help others. People furious that he became a paranoid dictator. Ruby and Yang: Introduced as sisters, confirmed as half-sisters by monty. We see that Taiyang is the father of both. QrowxSummer shippers: Livid that the writers repeatedly state that Qrow is not and never will be Ruby's father, and so they pretend to be illiterate and not able to tell the difference between step-sisters and half-sisters because they're so delusionally obsessed that the writers should lie to them for a garbage theory and ship. Just because somebody watches the show, doesn't mean that the writers should do what they demand of them. Blacksun shippers love to claim that the writers were bullied into Bumbleby, but said writers and VAs said Bumbleby was planned from the start. RWBY Critics were bloodthirsty when Barbara basically put blacksun and jaunexblake and jaunexyang headcanons 6 feet under into the grave. Just because the show doesn't do what you think it should? Does not mean its bad. So many haters are ridiculously self-entitled.
7. Corruption and Revision- "I fell in love with what RWBY Could Have Been" People didn't want a show about female lgbt protagonists. They wanted a show where they can fetishize women being damsels in distress needing a straight white male character to guide them. RWBY gives a giant middle finger to the straight white male protagonist and to the patriarchy and to straight-shipping. So when they say "the fanfiction is better" or they promote a rewrite, or they say "the porn is better"... it all comes down to their straight white male OCs... it comes down to their revenge fantasies against female characters (one loser made a wrestler OC comic where his Male OC beat up women)... It comes down to their fixit-fanfics that put men on a pedestal and put women under the bootheel of the men they glorify. Their idea of "wasted potential" or "ruined potential" involves tearing apart what makes RWBY great, and remaking it in their sick twisted image. Just look to the GOP for real life example, or Galactic Empire for fictional example.
And here you have your answer. The Seven Reasons RWBY Haters exist.
Edit: Just had a chat with a nice lady on Reddit, and she gave me another way of thinking about things.
"Media that's come out of patriarchal societies (so, the overwhelming majority of all media) tends centers the perspective of males by default. Ditto cisheteronormativy, ethonationalism, ableism, etc., resulting in predominantly cisgender heterosexual neurotypical protagonists belonging to the ethnic majority.
And if you grow up as a cis straight white boy in America, you don't even notice.
And if you grow up as anyone else, then your options are either to learn how to empathize with characters who don't look like you, or, to pass on this whole "Media" thing altogether.
So while I can sit through 5 seasons of Better Call Saul and still call it some of the best television I've ever seen, a man who's never learned how to empathize with characters from backgrounds different from his own can't even approach something like She-Ra.
It's incredibly noticeable when boys- for instance- refuse to play TLOU2 after the inciting incident, or people angry at those who think Persona games should bring back female player characters.
The way forward is more representation, all the time, forever. And you can tell a lot about a person by how much the preceding sentence contorted their face into a contempting scowl"

So, why do some people who love Crimson Flower always go on about how the English translation is pure evil? Because they always say that "oh, Treehouse hated Edelgard," but they never do a side-by-side comparison of why the English translaton is significantly more pro-Dimitri and anti-Edelgard (notice who they leave out in that) than the Japanese script.
From what I've seen, it seems to come from early fandom interpretations of 3H saying that it was "mistranslated to make Edelgard look worse" that came from people who, uh. Primarily didn't actually speak Japanese, or otherwise had a fairly severe misunderstanding of it.
You'll see this with pretty much every big-name event that is claimed to have been "mistranslated" in general. The AM parley, the Continue To Kill no u, Faerghus Toxic Masculinity, and "the Dream Interview calls her an antagonist not a villain" are the Big 4 of this thing happening, and all four of them have been thoroughly debunked as nonsense by people who actually speak and understand Japanese. That's probably why the actual MAJORITY of events that get the "this was mistranslated to make Edelgard look worse" card don't actually have that side-by-side comparison you mention (since there's WAY more smaller things that they say this about, for example Dimitri was TOTALLY JOKING with Edelgard during Gronder 1 and TOTALLY WASN'T freaked the fuck out at her "jokes"), because the people who claim this are 0-4 on being correct about this for four of the most important examples of this supposedly happening.
So they'll kinda just say anything is Totally A Mistranslation in the hopes that the English-speaking fandom who for the most part don't speak Japanese will believe them, and through that believe them on what the game is "actually" trying to say. With that being, of course, that Edelgard was completely and utterly right about literally actually factually every single thing she has ever said in the game ever and literally actually factually every single other person who disagrees with her is completely and utterly wrong (unless what they're saying is, of course, in alignment with what Edelgard is saying).
And if anyone who actually knows what they're talking about comes in and corrects them - even nicely! - they'll either go on about how everyone is coming after them (read: people who understand Japanese are correcting someone who doesn't understand Japanese about something that exclusively revolves around understanding Japanese), or they'll accuse that person of being a liar/sexist/homophobic POS who just wants the poor little gay bean that is Edelgard to be pure and utter evil since they totally view all gay women to be pure and utter evil.
All this, from what I can gather, is mostly to serve as a justification as to why they like Edelgard since they view liking her as a villain to be a genuine mark of bad character, for some reason. They want to believe that she's the progressive figure who does everything for the little guy for one reason or another, and so grab for any excuse they can give her they can think of to make their interpretation of her not seem so unfounded against all of the evidence Edelgard provides the player that she really is just an imperialist who doesn't really give a shit about her people if doing so gives even the slightest bump to her goal of forceful unification. All because daring to like villains is just soooo baaaaad lmao

literally about to make it my life goal to debunk porn addiction because i’m really seeing how people online are normalizing it as a concept while completely obliviously acknowledging that their fears of addiction come from shame about jerkin it. why is this becoming such a normal, actually talked about like it’s real thing? i KNOW it’s linked to incel ideology/toxic masculinity/religion or a cocktail of the 3, but the concept of Porn Addiction is generating so much fear and panic, into young boys especially, who should be comfortably exploring their sexuality and interests instead of worrying about developing a fake addiction.
porn addiction is not real, but you are probably addicted to shame and fear

Okay wait I need to tell yall about this dream I just had.
Basically the Fnaf corporation decided to change their target audience to adults, but not by adding boobs to everything or something. Oddly it was by making each anmatronic also function as a therapist, that for some fucking reason also specialised in debunking toxic masculinity??
So theyd be these big burly men sitting in a pizzearea ranting about all their misery and woes to fricking Freddy Fazbear , and for some reason it genuinely worked?? like the company stock tripled because of it.
I..Have no idea what the meaning of this is

Hi BPP. I have a question running through my mind lately, and I think it’s a little bit stupid, a little bit legit. I read your thoughts and like your opinions. I think you’re one of the best people who could answer, if not the most appropriate one. Sorry if it sounds dumb, tho.
I’ve been into kpop for a while, now. I can’t say i know the way it works, i can’t say i’m a master of it. But i notice things. I notice the big big impact fanservice has in the industry, for example. It’s literally fundamental. There are a few few companies with sex-mixed groups. Put them apart, the majority are same sex groups. Because with opposite genders in the same group there could be problems, unease, relationships etc.
Then they push same sex fantasies with fanservice and amplified skinship (already present in Korea). And until this point, everything is normal. I mean, we know things work this way.
But here i already notice a controversy. Homophobia is present and rooted in Korea and in the industry, but still they push gay narratives/don’t do anything to debunk them. So they try to “feed” everyone, people who like gay scenarios/moments included.
Then i think about girl groups. Twice, black pink. There’s a lot of explicit touching, explicit affirmations (i like you, your body is stunning, let’s go on a date, you make me blush etc). There’s in bts too, the guys did some nasty things too on cameras, i know. But with girl groups, you can easily notice it’s made up for the cameras but it still happens, and unless i’m missing it, i never saw someone hating or heavily hating on members because of it. Because of some easily misunderstanable sentences/acts.
The same goes for boy groups. I’m thinking of ateez. On of the members (i’m not into them so i don’t know his name) loudly read a comment saying “marry (insert another member’s name)”. And he said “you want me to marry *? You know it’s illegal here”. Then i’m thinking of enyphen, again, i’m not into them, but i saw this clip of two members going live and reading comments about them being a couple/being romantically involved. Shipping.
I’m sorry this is gonna be a long one, but before making my point i need to say these things.
Then we have Somi. She explicitly said she has a lot of women flirting with her, and she said she wants to conquer women too. She said she likes Han SoHee and dmed her on insta, but she didn’t reply. She even kissed Hyuna in a video posted on the internet less than a month ago.
Then we have Bibi. She kisses girl fans during her concerts and pictures of it are shared everywhere. She’s still famous, all of these people i’m mentioning are famous, are known, are in the korean spotlight, more or less. And their careers are not fucked up. Sometimes it’s fanservice, some others it’s who they are. Somi really likes women too, imo, and Bibi as well.
I get that for women it might be easier. There’s a group (a big group) of people who prefers gay interactions between women than gay interactions between men. They find it pleasing, and it’s an homophobic, toxic masculinity and women fetishization related preference.
But still, most people are fine with it. Yeah someone probably criticized it, probably hated on them because of these behaviours, but at the end of the day everything is fine for them.
I’m thinking about J-Hope too, who has gay friends and publicly shares pictures with them. He even visited a gay club and, again, probably some people criticized him for it and i’m just not on that side of the internet and the fandom, but at the end of the day his career is not gonna end because of it. Most People are fine with that too. He wears nail polish, tae does too. Can you imagine Jm or Jk doing that publicly? The hate they’d get? Maybe i’m wrong and it wouldn’t be like that; but that’s how i feel.
Then i think about Holland. His coming out had a huge impact on his career, his life. The aggressions he was victim of; his music not being so followed and famous, probably also because of said coming out.
I think about every kpop artist who is closeted and can’t say it. I think about Jikook, about Jimin who had to “play” with colors, lyrics, temporary tattoos and playful interviews (such as the “I think he likes men-> I don’t like you” one) in order to silently whisper that he’s not straight. That there’s more he can’t show.
And then Jikook in general. They could never afford to do what ateez and enhypen did. Never, bpp. We know that. So why?
Why is there this difference, why is it so… difficult for me to get how this works. Why can they do it, but Jikook can’t? But bts can’t? Why is there a limit for some idols, and some others are almost completely free? What am I missing?
I hope my question is clear, bpp. I really do, because i feel like i made a mess here all over the place. I’m sorry about it, thank you for reading this, if you did.
I appreciate you🫶
***
Hi Anon,
Don’t apologize.
So if I’m reading this right, you’re asking why the reaction to jikook showing queer expression is so much more negative than you see it for anyone else / other duos and groups?
Or, maybe quoting you is better:
“And then Jikook in general. They could never afford to do what ateez and enhypen did. Never, bpp. We know that. So why?”
I’m not sure if what I’ll say will make sense, and this might seem silly, but I think one reason jikook/BTS appear to have fewer liberties on things like explicit/overt shows of love/attraction between them, even under the umbrella of ‘fan service’ and compared to other groups, is because BTS is the biggest group in the world. Just by virtue of the group’s prominence, BTS being very closely tied with several government appointments and massive brands in Korea (Samsung and Hyundai)… there’s a greater expectation of conformity for them compared to other groups. There’s just more at stake for them.
I mean, do you recall the lead up to the enlistment news? How people were picking them apart, people who didn’t think they should be exempt where digging into their old footage trying to find anything to turn public opinion against the group. It was kinda crazy. In that sort of environment and in any case, the prudent thing would be to wait till after military service to expect more freedom in expression for a boy group. And perhaps that’s what we’ll see with jikook and BTS in general come 2026.
But also, the thing is, jikook have still been quite loud… in some ways even louder than Somi’s declarations (but certainly not Holland’s and the cost to him and any openly gay artist is apparent to see). GCF in Tokyo is so loud, it couldn’t be louder if JK got a megaphone, climbed to the top of the Eiffel Tower and screamed that he loves Jimin in the four cardinal directions. No matter what anybody says about GCF in Tokyo, that video itself is very clear and it says it all.
Then there’s the gesture of Jimin flying from Paris to Korea just to spend some time with Jungkook on his birthday, and then more recently, flying to NYC to be with JK during Seven debut. There’s the way their families treat them both. There’s that OT7 live where Jimin kept one half of his body literally glued to Jungkook’s on the couch, hooking his arms to keep their thighs together that not even air could pass between them. Then there’s fucking Rosebowl, pardon my French.
Like, even with all the scrutiny, jikook have still been able to say what they actually want about what they each mean to each other. Jimin is usually private and careful with how he speaks in general, he’s not the kind of person to talk the way Somi did about anything, really. So expecting a similar level and style of communication/queer expression, for jikook compared to these other people, really isn’t fair to Jimin or Jungkook to begin with, I think.
It’s totally okay if as a fan you’d like to see more open, simple and consistent expressions of queerness the way we have it in OnlyOneOf, Ateez, Bibi, etc. Those groups are made in some ways precisely to scratch that itch. It’s good the way they talk about queer attraction draws you in or resonates with you, but I’m not sure it’s fair to expect other people, in this case jikook and/or BTS, to express their relationship and queer feelings the same way.
If you’re approaching this solely from the point of concern for jikook, I totally get it. Korea is very homophobic. But within their immediate team, I hope and trust they are surrounded by more good people than bad, people who will aim to protect the queer members. There’s no use worrying about this for long, since they’ll just have to learn to take care of themselves.
I could’ve totally missed your question or what you’re actually asking, Anon. If so let me know. But the above is also what I think.

I always saw his stalking and toxic behavior here as retaliation, cause someone dared to spork the Edelstan holy grail that is Cap's fic, speak on how Edelgard's the villain (something that the devs have said an umpteen times) and debunk the famous Edelstan takes like teacher theory and whatnot. Just think it's a waste of energy to spend all that time trying to own the haters to the point of stalking them and sending threats via TVtropes. But hey, considering the discord server he comes from where this behavior is celebrated, for him and his ilk it's just another day I guess.
Hey, does anyone remember when we were making a meme out of "brutal retaliatory masculine violence"? That one didn't have quite the legs of "not just kills but murders" and "make womb for himself" but it was still entertaining. I feel like it would be relevant here, especially given the broader context.
That part I get; it's the pattern of who specifically he chooses to go after on Tumblr (as opposed to only on the Discord server) that I don't quite understand. Maybe it's because BWIIDT's post was critical of Dorothea, which is misogynist because she's not on the list of female characters it's not misogynist to criticize (like Rhea). I find this doubly funny as I feel like I'm one of the few people in my circle who actually likes Dorothea and has even praised her in the past - not as much as I like Manuela of course, but for many of the same reasons. If you were to listen to that server, you'd think that I never talked about female characters at all.

Digital Communities: Where Power, Identity, and Resilience Collide
(And Why Dismissing "Snowflakes" Misses the Point)
Tumblr media
Let’s talk about digital spaces—the vibrant, chaotic arenas where connection and conflict coexist. These communities aren’t just social hubs; they’re battlegrounds where power dynamics, identity politics, and systemic inequities play out in real time. Buckle up. This isn’t just a think piece—it’s a call to rethink how we navigate (and reshape) the digital world.
The Allure of Toxic Communities: Belonging at a Cost
Tumblr media
Digital communities often emerge from societal fractures. Take the “manosphere,” a network of male-centric groups preying on young men’s anxieties about economic instability and shifting gender roles (Rich & Bujalka, 2023). Influencers like Andrew Tate weaponize these fears, framing feminism as a threat while selling pseudoscientific “solutions”—from supplements to pyramid-scheme forums (Rich & Bujalka, 2023). It’s a lucrative fear economy, trading belonging for radicalization.
But here’s the twist: this isn’t new. Gaming culture’s 2014 GamerGate controversy revealed similar patterns, where masculinized spaces resisted inclusivity through harassment campaigns (Maloney et al., 2019). Yet, progress is happening. Platforms like Reddit’s r/gaming now host clashes between reactionary and progressive voices, mirroring broader societal shifts (Maloney et al., 2019). Toxicity persists, but so does resistance.
Gendered Hostility: The Digital Divide Isn’t Just About Access
Tumblr media
Online harassment isn’t random—it’s systemic. In Australia, 65% of young women endure online violence, from doxxing to rape threats (Thompson, 2023). For transgender individuals, rates soar to 54% in UK universities (Haslop et al., 2021). This isn’t just “mean comments”; it’s a tool of oppression, silencing marginalized voices and reinforcing a gendered digital divide.
Platforms amplify this. Reddit’s legacy of “geek masculinity” and algorithmic biases prioritize engagement over safety (Maloney et al., 2019). When unsolicited “dick pics” are dismissed as “boys being boys,” or harassment is trivialized as “free speech,” we normalize harm. The result? A generation forced to self-censor or disengage entirely (Thompson, 2023; Haslop et al., 2021).
Debunking the “Snowflake” Myth: Resilience ≠ Silence
Tumblr media
Let’s dismantle the “snowflake” stereotype. Mocking young people as “hypersensitive” ignores reality: 73% of UK students tolerate politicized abuse as “normal” rather than report it (Haslop et al., 2021). This isn’t fragility—it’s desensitization. When platforms and peers dismiss abuse, victims internalize it as inevitable.
The irony? Those labeling others “snowflakes” often weaponize free speech to justify cruelty. But research shows the psychological toll is undeniable: anxiety, depression, and even suicidal ideation follow chronic harassment (Thompson, 2023; Pham, 2025). Resilience isn’t silence; it’s survival.
Building Safer Spaces: It’s Going to Take All of Us
Tumblr media
Solutions require layers:
Policy: Australia’s Online Safety Act (2021) mandates rapid removal of abusive content.
Platform Accountability: TikTok and Facebook’s anti-harassment pledges must translate to action.
Education: Universities should teach digital consent and critical platform literacy (Haslop et al., 2021; Pham, 2025).
But here’s what excites me: grassroots momentum. From feminist Discord servers to LGBTQ+ TikTok coalitions, marginalized users are reclaiming space. They’re proof that digital communities can foster resilience—not just trauma.
Final Take: Nuance Over Nihilism
The digital world isn’t a utopia or dystopia—it’s a reflection of us. Dismantling toxicity demands empathy for those navigating abuse and accountability for systems enabling it. Let’s move beyond lazy “snowflake” discourse and recognize the courage it takes to exist online as a marginalized person.
The future of digital communities isn’t predetermined. It’s ours to shape—with nuance, urgency, and unapologetic enthusiasm.
Stay critical. Stay kind. And keep pushing for better.

#REALTALK (NOT) Let's talk about SOFTWARE!
Hey y’all I’m SOOOOOOOO excited to announce, the REALTALK girls did NOT post a video this week!!!!!! YAYYYYYYYYYYY! I went on to Instagram to check their socials to confirm that they were in fact NOT going to post, but instead found myself trapped in the endless rabbit hole of reels. THE DOOM SCROLLING GOT ME. During my thumb workout I came across this meme.
Tumblr media
I didn’t quite get it, but I remember my friend Rebecca saying that women in CompSci always stick together. I did; however, wonder why such opinions and stereotypes emerged? So, I did some digging and was absolutely APPALLED by the stats I found on this website. Only around 23% of Tech jobs are held by WOMEN!!! One of the constantly growing industries has an extreme male bias, and I wanted to know why? I sat for a moment and thought, WELL! people like the REALTALK girls don’t help when trying to uplift women and break gender stereotypes. Stereotypes that insecure men will try to manipulate and exploit to degrade women just to try and reinforce their own toxic masculinity.
I wondered how these biases affect the way our software has come to exist (AS IT SEEMES THE MAJORITY OF PROGRAMMERS ARE MEN WHIPPING UP THEIR CODE BASED CONCOCTIONS). After an internet dive I found this TedTalk by Elise Hu, discussing a concept she calls the technological gaze. From what I understood this is the idea of how algorithms have developed notions of beauty standards, which surprise surprise adhere to unattainable beauty standards. The usage of AI photoshop isn’t easy to catch, leading women to feel it necessary to get bodily surgeries to ‘IMPROVE’ the way they look and adhere to the beauty standards of today.
Tumblr media
No offense, but I don’t want to live in a world where everyone looks like Kylie Jenner and her duck lips. I mean part of the reason the algorithms win is because mass corporations use celebrity influencers to push products onto consumers to get them hooked on continually buying products. EVEN IF IT MEANS TELLING A 9-YEAR-OLD THAT THEY’RE LIPS ARE TOO SMALL. Like what!?!?!?!?!?!?!??! This video from Good Morning America goes into the psychological issues associated with beauty trends being push onto impressionable youth, in relation to the recent skincare fad. And don’t get me started about how when we really look into it and reflect back on the percent of women in tech, its not surprising to find out it is men writing and imputing their bias’ and preferences into the software, which are developing these beauty standards.
I strongly wonder why such misogyny entered into the world of tech? I did some more research after pondering how the world is supposed to get better when it seems everyone wants to go back to the days of Mesopotamia, where a man could punch a pregnant woman and if she died then the state wouldn’t kill the man who struck her, but rather murder his daughter. Cause the Code of Hammurabi made sense right!?!?!? I found this article, which discusses how women have been INSTRUMENTAL in the development of technology. In fact, women were the first computers during WW1. Women in computing have ensured that the design and development of software reflect a range of human experience, particularly when it comes to visual knowledge. Their contributions have helped create software that doesn’t just process data, but processes and presents it in ways that are culturally aware, user-centered, and inclusive. Yet, we are blind sided to believe that’s not how it actually is?!?!?!? FUCK THE PATRIARCHY! And you can learn more about how women today are changing the tech industry in this Forbes article.
I could go on about this forever, so I’ll stop this now. I know today wasn’t a typical debunk, but I hope y’all learned that the stereotype of women in tech has been one that was forced and imposed upon women due to patriarchal structures. And let me just say this, I may find the REALTALK girls lying, irritating, ignorant, bird brains, but I’d never hate them for being women. Anyways always remember to question everything and #STAYVIGILANT.

IMO, a lot of cishet men hate Astarion because he doesn't tick the boxes of toxic masculinity - that kind of "masculinity" which is widely promoted by misogynists on social medias nowadays, and which is promoted as "the only masculinity straight women are really attracted to" 🙄
But the thing is that so many women (straight, bi, pan) are attracted to Astarion that it completely debunks their sexist discourse, and they hate it.
It will always be weird to me how straight men hate Astarion 😂
some say he is too feminine which makes me wonder what exactly are those „feminine“ traits of his? Being bitchy and whiny? Yeah thanks a lot for associating his „negative“ traits with women. If it’s because of his mannerisms and way of speaking, it would be even more weird, because how else is an arrogant, medieval man from noble background supposed to speak?? Like Halsin?? 😭 that’s how vampires have been portrayed in media since forever.
If anything Wyll would be the stereotypically „feminine“ one, since he is super empathetic, sweet, dances, and reads romance books. The guy literally twirls you when you kiss while Astarion grabs your ass lmaooo
Astarion is a guy who seeks power and control, thrives on dark humour and dissing other people…these men should love him! 😂
Anyway people are allowed to dislike characters since it’s literally just a game, but why do they feel the need to mention it every time completely unprovoked?? Like you’ll see a normal video of Astarion and they’ll always say shit like „He is so overrated I literally stake him as soon as-„ STFU no one asked 😩
I feel like there’s a bunch of grammar mistakes in here lol. English isn’t my first language sorry

i mean, spielbergs project collecting testimony from oct 7th survivors is like the best way i can imagine of separating the actual reality of what happened from the atrocity propaganda of the israeli and us governments so even if thats obviously not why he's doing it im not gonna look a gift horse in the mouth. and hayao miyazaki produced grave of the fireflies which is all about how sad it is that japan got nuked without any mention of why, so if spielberg should die so should he. especially because his dad literally sold planes to the mf nazis. anyway good for arnie but hes still a homophobe so idc.
The gazan slaughter is as much a physical as it is an online battle where the opinion keeps shifting. Fortunately most of everyone has stopped eating up israelian propaganda since so much of it has been debunked, but a proeminent figure like Spielberg doing so is going to be used as propaganda. Even if he only did it to defend the interest of the October 7 victims (because I might support Palestine, but I do not support the killing of innocent people and Oct7 was a tragedy) it WILL be used by Israel for propaganda because Israel has been using everything under their hand to shift public opinion in their favour. Spielberg knows this very much. And for that he can go fuck himself
Grave of the Fireflies was, despite what Takahata says, a strongly anti war movie. By focusing on individual suffering and the repercussion of war, it shows what war is supposed to do in the first place, which is protect its citizen. Grave of the Fireflies is as much of a movie about how sad japan got nuked than Oppenheimer is about how great making a bomb is.
Miyazaki isnt responsible for his fathers crimes. Schwarzeneggers dad was an entire nazi himself. Just because I love wat Schwarzenegger represented in the 80s (a strong figure perpetuating toxic masculinity) doesnt mean I stand for what he stands completely. Especially since he has said that October 7 was a tragedy that was UNPROMPTED, compeltely ignoring the horrifying settling Israel has been doing since 46. He has also recordef a video against anti semitism. He has also said he is a friend of Israel. He is a stupid shit. I still love what he represents to me. Alot of Celebrities have showed their shameful support for Israel online. Not gonna say they all deserve to die. But Spielberg is going too far. He is litteraly doing propaganda for Israel.

Unraveling the Stigma: The Rise of Male Psychologists in Cape Town
The field of psychology has long been perceived as a domain predominantly occupied by women. However, in recent years, a noticeable shift has occurred, challenging this perception as more men embrace careers as psychologists. Cape Town, a city renowned for its diversity and progressive mindset, has become a focal point for this trend. In this article, we will explore the emergence of male psychologists in Cape Town and the positive impact they are making on mental health services.
Breaking Stereotypes and Embracing Diversity:
Historically, the mental health profession has struggled to attract male practitioners, partly due to societal stereotypes and stigmas. The traditional portrayal of psychologists as gentle, empathetic listeners did not always align with the societal expectations of masculinity. However, in Cape Town, a new generation of male psychologists is debunking these stereotypes, emphasizing that compassion, empathy, and understanding know no gender boundaries.
These male psychologists are not only changing public perceptions but also challenging long-standing gender norms. By diversifying the profession, they create an environment where individuals can find therapists they feel most comfortable sharing their emotions and struggles with, regardless of gender.
Addressing Male-Specific Mental Health Concerns:
The presence of male psychologists is essential in addressing mental health concerns that predominantly affect men. Men, like women, experience unique challenges and emotional struggles, but they may be less inclined to seek help due to societal pressure to appear strong and self-reliant. Having male psychologists in Cape Town provides a safe space for men to open up about their emotions and mental health challenges without fear of judgment.
These psychologists are trained to understand and address issues such as toxic masculinity, anger management, and emotional suppression that can be barriers to men seeking help. By providing specialized care, male psychologists contribute to improved mental well-being and healthier relationships for men in Cape Town.
Supporting Vulnerable Populations:
Cape Town, like many cities, has populations that are particularly vulnerable to mental health issues, such as men from lower-income backgrounds, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and marginalized groups. Male psychologists with diverse backgrounds and experiences are better equipped to understand and empathize with the unique challenges faced by these communities.
Their presence in mental health clinics, community centers, and counseling services helps bridge the gap between marginalized individuals and accessible mental health care. By offering culturally sensitive and inclusive therapy, male psychologists contribute to a more holistic approach to mental health in Cape Town.
Encouraging Men's Participation in Therapy:
The presence of male psychologists plays a vital role in encouraging men's participation in therapy. Research has shown that men may be more likely to attend counseling when the therapist is of the same gender. Male psychologists in Cape Town are working to create a welcoming and non-judgmental atmosphere, fostering trust between therapist and client.
Additionally, male psychologists are involved in outreach programs that aim to destigmatize mental health seeking behavior among men. By participating in community events, workshops, and educational seminars, they raise awareness about the importance of mental health and the benefits of seeking professional help when needed.

Almost all of this thread is wrong. That isn't how oppression works.
If you look at who is affected by systemic prejudice, the answer is everyone, because systemic prejudice influences all of society and has for all of history. This also makes it a useless answer; if we're talking about how everyone is affected we aren't talking about who is actually being targeted for harm and why.
Example: White supremacy harms people who aren't white, but also punishes white people for not supporting racism. While both groups are impacted by white supremacy, the effects they feel couldn't be more different. Non-white people face levels of harm that white people do not.
Instead of looking at it broadly, look at who is marginalized and who is empowered.
Example: Misogyny targets women. It does not target men. While men can be affected by misogyny, they are never the direct targets of misogynistic attacks and are empowered to use those very same attacks to enforce sexism. Any harm they experience is indirect, by definition, because it's not targeting them.
People who benefit from systemic prejudice are empowered and protected from harm. If they are harmed it's considered a violation that must be corrected.
People who are targeted by systemic prejudice are marginalized. They have power taken from them and they are rendered both vulnerable and visible so that they can be attacked to maintain the social order. If they suffer harm it's part of the natural order of things.
These are two very different experiences. Treating them the same doesn't help the discussion, it hinders it.
A few more misconceptions in this thread that deserve debunking:
Systemic prejudices aren't bad because they're mean and very big. They're bad because they're systems of harm that empower one group by making another group vulnerable to attack. Describing it as mean and very big instead isn't useful or accurate, and serves only to distract from the actual harm being done.
A white person who's mistaken as a black person is not being targeted by racism, nor are they experiencing racism as black people experience it. Racism is not a single racist comment or a single racist action. It is life in a society that devalues you and harms you because you don't have white skin. It is a hundred kinds of violence, large and small, visited upon you at all times because of the color of your skin.
Cis men don't experience misogyny, full stop. A cis man being bullied by other cis men to embrace misogyny is not the same as the misogynistic violence that women face. One is a member of a privileged group being pressured to conform, while the other is a member of a marginalized group facing direct violence.
Ace people were being excluded by bigoted people who didn't feel that ace people experienced any kind of prejudice. It didn't have anything to do with people discussing how transphobia is hatred directed specifically at trans people being unwilling to open the door for aces.
The important thing to note here: Every group has a different experience with these systems, sometimes very different. You cannot equate the way men experience sexism to the way women experience sexism and expect to produce any meaningful results.
---
I don't think anyone in this thread is being disingenuous, but most of what's said upthread is inaccurate and simplistic; a view of systemic prejudice that doesn't do anything other than obfuscate who actually faces the brunt of that harm.
The comparison to AllLivesMatter is apt. Redefining misogyny to say that it affects men doesn't help discuss the issues men face, it just distracts from discussion of how misogyny harms women. If you want to talk about the issues men face because of sexism, there's plenty of room to do that and a lot of people are having that discussion. That's why you see so many guys talking about the harm of toxic masculinity and the need to support women and actively oppose sexism.
Put differently: Recentering the discussion around oppressive systems on the groups who aren't directly targeted for harm by making broad appeals (to how it 'affects all of us') doesn't provide any benefit. All it does is create a chilling effect on discussion by making it harder to talk about the actual victims and the harm they face.
I think it's far better for us to look at what harm is being done, who is targeted for harm, and how to protect those people to bring about an end to that harm.
experiencing misogyny isn't what makes someone a woman, womanhood isn't like "the ability to experience misogyny" being a woman is identifying as a woman.
Everyone experiences misogyny. People tend to forget that when it comes to trans men, who are direct targets of misogyny, and yet of course, not women.
