Ah, sorry this is possibly a bit late, haha...

I can pass along the tech we've been working with if you'd like some additional angles to try to come at it from. Ours work off of an existing framework of this world, so there are doubtless inefficiencies when activating them from others.

We built ours off of devices called Agarthan Conduits, developed kind of outside and before our time (long time loops, things getting overwritten but not fully, so on). They're designed to route the World Tree at heart of Agartha - it's branches span infinitely across time and space, so the design we worked on largely just pushed it to reach further to access points outside of, ah, permutations of this universe, communicating with the coordinate system used by some other devices I'd come across on here to determine the new points to connect to. So there is the limitation of it needing to route its way through the twigs to find the destination.

And I. Can't read coordinates especially well, aha... Even with the Buzzing, they shift too quickly for me to make out more than incomplete patterns. I can't fully translate them myself, or write them by scratch, I'm afraid.

We went with a magically-charged gold to handle the connections for the physical components and inscribing the spellwork for it; it's worked as a reliable power supply for opening the passageways and facilitating the jump. It does need recharging periodically, but we've estimated the charge to last a few years with moderate use.

We have a... possibly unlimited supply of the original Agarthan Conduits that have the default range limitations - the, uh, supply never seems to deplete - and I have a few of the modified design on-hand - some by themselves, some already mounted to burner phones. For emergencies.

i don't know. that's what Duke Barma and Duchess Rainsworth were trying to tell them. all this Abyss, past-life, magic stuff has been kept pretty far from the general public for a long time, though. Chains are an open secret, but most people don't know more much than the fact they exist. and that includes the government.

so there's a lot of convincing to do to make the "he was possessed by another guy" argument work. but it's sort of all we've got.
