Tech Slide Trick Tips with Ed #1 Standup FS 360 Slide

Hi guys, we haven't died, the three main contributors to this blog (Steve, Andriy, Ed) just started school/work so we've been, you know, doing stuff. Anyway I'm gonna start writing some trick tips for you guys since I get endless facebook messages asking how to do things. The first is a standup frontside 360, it's my go-to trick in a line. I'm going to assume you already know how to frontside 180 revert, since those are easy. You might be wondering "But Ed, shouldn't I learn how to switch backside 180 revert too?" I'm gonna say not really, because I didn't know how to switch backside when I learned front 3's. OK here we go. 1. Get speed. You wanna be going moderately fast to do this, so make sure your wheels will slide easily at the speed you're going. (To make sure, sometimes I do a little check slide) 2. Wind up. Rotate your upper body uphill and point both of your arms uphill. 3. Compress. Bend your knees, probably more than you think you should. It's okay if you start off down low, when you get more comfortable with the trick you'll be more and more upright. 4. Decompress and throw your shoulders. As you decompress, throw your arms and kick out the rotation. Your shoulders should spin ahead of your feet. Failure to do this makes the trick harder to do and lagging upper body looks REALLY bad. The speed and steez of the trick is reliant on how you throw your shoulders and arms around. 5. Let your feet catch up to your body and compress again. When your feet have spun 360, and your shoulders are square with the board again, bend your knees again. This will keep you from flying off your board and smacking your dome. It'll take a few tries but you'll get it. Eventually you'll be skipping steps and making the trick your own, this is just a guideline for learning it, once you've learned it, you'll find what works best for you, your style, and how you want to approach skateboarding. - Ed
