Triptyk (@triptyk.my) is the latest project by industry stalwart Angel Ng (@angelngji), located in a pre-war shoplot on Jalan Tuba (around the Kampung Attap area). Founded by Angel and development consultant and architect Ahmed Zareh., Triptyk is a “food and beverage collective” that is made up of three concepts: two restaurants and a bar, which is also called Triptyk. The bar is a low to zero-proof bar, and also practises zero waste and sustainable practises. Highlights from the menu include the Jacky Joseph, a highball-style drink woth Jameson Black Barrel, jackfruit tea and soda, and the Hafu, using shitake mushroom vermouth, miso tequila and Jameson seaweed bitters. There’s also classic low ABV cocktails on the menu like the Bamboo, Amaretto Sour and Garibaldi, as well as local rice wines and tuak. But don’t let the no- low-concept fool you. A look at the backbar reveals some pretty awesome spirits as well, so if you’re looking for something, well, stronger, you can get it here as well. The interior is very minimalist, meant to pay tribute to the pre-war history of the space, and true to its goal of sustainability, every ‘new’ addition to the building is salvaged and repurposed from other renovation sites. Angel once told me she had a vision for a low-ABV bar concept that curates great drinks for those who want to have a good time with great tasting drinks but don’t necessarily want a lot of alcohol at the same time. Acclaimed Swedish author Per Olov Enquist dies aged 85

Per Olov Enquist, one of Sweden's most acclaimed authors who wrote "The Visit of the Royal Physician," has died aged 85, his family told Swedish media on Sunday.

The patriarch of 20th century Scandinavian literature, Enquist is known for powerful stories that weave his own melancholic life into the dark side of history.

In his novels, plays and essays, he drew heavily on his own experience as an oppressed child in a strictly religious home, an athlete, a journalist and a destructive alcoholic.

Born in 1934 in Hjoggbole in Sweden's far north, his books -- including "The Crystal Eye" (1961), "The Parable Book" (2013), "The Magnetist's Fifth Winter" (1964) and "The March of the Musicians" (1978) -- have been translated into a dozen languages.

He won the 2001 August Prize, Swedish literature's top honour, for "The Visit of the Royal Physician", which earned him broad international fame and tells the story of a romance between the physician of the mad Danish King Christian VII and the queen.

Enquist, known in Sweden by his initials P.O., won a second August award with his impressive autobiography "A Different Life" (2008), its name an homage to "A Life" by August Strindberg, the father of modern Swedish literature.

"P.O. Enquist's importance for Swedish cultural life since the 1960s can't be exaggerated. He was the model for the socially-engaged poet who influenced generations of younger writers. It is empty and unthinkable that he is gone," wrote Bjorn Wiman, the culture editor of the Dagens Nyheter newspaper.

Vygotskijs teori: Är barns fantasi fattigare än vuxnas?

De senaste veckorna har Vygotskijs teori om huruvida barns fantasi är fattigare än vuxnas ockuperat mina tankar. När jag först läste detta reagerade jag starkt emot, nu håller jag med honom och ser klara samband mellan hans uttalande och fantasins uttryck i konsten. I hans bok ”Fantasi och kreativitet i barndomen” påstår han att fantasin baseras på tidigare erfarenheter, intryck och information. Då vuxna har upplevt mer blir deras fantasi automatiskt mer berikad och komplex. Dock tror jag att allas fantasi oavsett ålder kan vara väldigt djup och nyanserad, istället för att säga att vuxnas fantasi är ”bättre” vill jag påstå att individens fantasiförmåga tar sig olika uttryck beroende på personens ålder och mognad. Vygotskij skev att vår fantasi är både kreativ och kombinatorisk. Som ung kan man använda fantasin för att hitta lösningar på frågor man inte har svaret på genom att fabricera en egen sanning utifrån sådant man redan upplevt. Som vuxen kan man styra sin fantasi på ett helt annat sätt, kristallisera den och lättare skapa något baserad på den. Ett exempel på detta är nedanstående, Ett av mina absoluta favoritverk är Boschs ”Garden of earthly delights”. En mörk surrealistisk skönhet. Jag dras till hans bildspråk då han använder mycket symbolik och gestaltar sina verk på ett intressant och ganska sinnesrubbat sätt. Jag uppfattar hans verk som väldigt fantasifulla men när man börjar analysera hans triptyk utifrån Vygotskijs teori ser man fort att alla delar i tavlan är influerade eller i många fall exakt återskapade versioner av objekt han haft i sin närhet. Tittar man noga så är det proportionerna, färgschemat och kompositionen som ger den overkliga känslan. Tar man ut de enskilda objekten ur bilden är de inte alla förvrängda. Man ser blanda annat en uggla som sitter på toppen av en sammanställning av kroppsdelar och växter. Det som ger intrycket av att det är en fantasifull tavla är att han valt att sätta de ”vanliga” objekten på onaturliga ställen. Hade t.ex ugglan varit huvudnumret utan en fångande omgivning hade det bara varit en vanlig realistisk avbildning. Genom att på ett konstruktivt sätt analysera sin omgivning kunde han med hjälp av sin mognare fantasi avspegla en känsla som ett barn hade haft svårare att få till.

I originally wrote it in swedish (I cant speak this language, but I was traveling there so it felt right expressing myself in a way that fitted the environment). I added a english translation.
