This hummingbird has only been found on a single road in southern Mexico. And not even the entire road - just 25km of it!

Are there more hidden in the mountains nearby? We don't really know. Until more are found, they are listed as Critically Endangered, just in case. The population is probably less than 1,500 and declining, especially since there is continual habitat loss in the area.

today's bird is the fiery-throated hummingbird!

- somehow i couldn't find many facts about this guy, other than the fact that it's the only member of its genus (Panterpe)

- but does it really need facts i mean JUST LOOK HOW PRETTY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Uncharismatic Fact of the Day

Hummingbirds are generally known for their diminutive size- with exception, of course, of the northern giant hummingbird! Officially distinguished from its cousin, the southern giant hummingbird, in 2024, this species weighs in at 20 to 30 grams (0.7 to 1 oz), at least twice the size of the next largest species!
