Pink flashing legacy edition

This happened in my heavily modded game (14,7gb) with the new legacy edition.

I summoned around 25 sims until the pink flashing started.

Safe to say it is not fixed AT ALL

ok but hear me out........ the upcoming ts4 pack with the tattoo table......

that converted for ts2, but functional..... same animations as the bv massage table (+ the tattoo gun accessory attached to the artist-sim's hand??? they don't even need to be properly holding it imo, just having the accessory there would be cool i think). the client changes into undies instead of towel, loses comfort/energy(/hunger/hygiene? lmao) and gains fun and maybe social too? so the table advertises for those. change appearance dialog comes up (in the case of facial tattoos) but otherwise tattoos are still applied with overlays as usual (oh to have a 'buy clothes'-style dialog window for tats...... 😢). the tattoo artist gains creativity skill + arts&crafts enthusiasm as they work. custom memory for the client sim if it's their first tattoo (or a repeatable one could be cool too?) 🤔🤔🤔 functional tattoo table.....

I'm seeing a lot of people lately going on about how hopeful they are for a sims 2 re-release and xyz reasons why they think one is coming...

Now I'm not normally such a negative-nancy but I really truly doubt EA are doing that. They don't care about us, point blank. At least, they definitely would not just do it out of the goodness of their hearts. They would only remotely consider it if they could make a boat load of money doing it and in that scenario I can't see a world where they don't somehow make it worse absolutely ruin our beloved game.

Quite frankly I'm okay with continuing to jump through all the hoops we do on modern machines to get to play. I actually kind of don't want a re-release or EA's grubby little mitts anywhere near the most important thing in my life. I just don't trust them.

hellow, new update, for now this is gonna look a bit more like a random thoughts / gameplay simblr...

ts2 is running amazing on fedora 41 - i'm legit not getting ANY pink even with a full stress test of high lot imposters, a TON of high-poly cc, etc! LITERALLY my dream!

but, unfortunately, i haven't got simpe, milkshape, etc. to run yet. which i've been procrastinating for some time due to lack of tutorials but also laziness, i'm liking my new schedule and i can finally enjoy this game the way will wright intended 🩷

A FINAL UPDATE FOR MY PINK SOUP EXPERIMENTATION

at this point, i have tested sims 2 on the latest windows 11 on various other PCs in my house, with both AMD and NVIDIA graphics cards. there's barely any difference. i still am experiencing major crashing and pink soup issues on systems with an RTX 3060, RX 580, GTX 1660 Ti, and of course my 7900 XTX. dxvk, new drivers, literally everything great minds like @osab and @brandinotbroke and many others have suggested has done nothing.

BUT!

at their suggestion, i tried Linux. Fedora 41 as i said above.

AND ALL MY PROBLEMS HAVE GONE AWAY.

other games are now running smoothly too with 0 errors and crashing; of course i don't have access to the same apps and ease of comfort as i did on windows, but hot damn, i can play sims 2! with and without cc! again!!

i am also not the only one, funnily enough! in our tests this massive pink flashing issue seems to affect not just my PC, but many others who have both NVIDIA or AMD graphics cards. the only link we have found... is windows 11.

with Linux it just all goes away!

so tl;dr;

IF YOU ARE HAVING PINK FLASHING ISSUES ON YOUR WINDOWS 11, IT IS LIKELY NOT YOUR PC, IT IS AN ISSUE WITH THE LATEST WINDOWS UPDATE!

so do NOT go out buying yourself an RTX GPU or a new CPU, it is just NOT going to help! don't bother with trying to reinstall windows because literally it has done nothing for me.

our current theory is that something is screwed with the latest update. in directx, in texture memory allocation - literally do not know. all we know is that a different OS just - fixes it. literally and figuratively like magic.

if you're willing to learn how to install Linux and potentially a new SSD, go for it! hopefully in a few days me or someone else will have a tutorial out.

I actually opened up my game for the first time in forever! and did something! and it was fun! ok! bye!

on another note, why is it that every light is SO BRIGHT in this game?? I remember some of the lights being very bright back in 2017 when I actually played (yes, there was a time in my life I wasn't stuck in simpe) but now I swear to god all lamps are unwordly bright? I do have both cinema secrets and awlbf installed, but I'm not sure they are the cause? so now I have to go through both maxis' and the custom lamps I have, because I can't stand the exploding white light they all give hahha.. but I have never actually edited lamps before (help). will I ever actually get to play this game? no one knows.

Just gonna throw this mod idea out there because I keep thinking about it...

I've been slowly implementing preferred sub hobbies for sims based on Pleasantsims random hobbies. Basically if a sims true hobby is sports, then you randomize sports hobbies and then basketball is their favorite, or if their true hobby is art then maybe pottery is their hobby, etc etc.

I was just thinking it would be cool to have a mod that checks their true hobby and then randomly assigns them one in their inventory, like the trait system or favorite color system.

How I got my Sims 2 game working on my new Windows 11 laptop, step by step.

OKAY. Gadies and Lentlemen.

I have seen plenty of these around, but I wanted to share my process!

So I bought an MSI creator laptop. The specs are as follows:

CPU: 13th gen Intel i7-13700H

RAM: 16 GB DDR5

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 laptop GPU

Step One: Fresh install. I used the EA App to install the UC version on my new laptop.

Step Two: Download and install RPC launcher. This will automatically apply the 4gb patch. Run as administrator, but not in any kind of compatibility which renders the 4gb patch useless.

Step Three: Download and install Graphics Rule Maker. I used all of the recommended settings, aside from texture memory which I set at 2048 mb for reasons that will become clear later.

Step Four: Memory allocation fix (empty standby list). Explanation here.

Step Five: Setting virtual memory. I used instructions from this post at MTS - My virtual memory paging file is now minimum of 25000 and maximum of 30000. You'll need to adjust to your system's own specs.

Step Six: In game settings. Shadows Off. Neighbours Off. Lighting Medium. RPC Settings. Apply 4GB patch. Automatically Clean Cache. Lot Imposters Optimized. Sim/Object Shadows Classic. I also have lot view ocean reflections ticked.

If your game works like this with no flashing and crashing, awesome. Mine did not. I firstly tried several different texture memory sizes, but they had 0 impact.

I believe the next step is only for NVIDIA cards, but may be wrong.

Step Seven: DXVK. The most recent version from, here. There are plenty of instructions on how to install out there. But make sure you install the 32bit version. I have these two following lines in my DXVK.conf file (and do make sure it is saved as a conf file, NOT a txt or similar).

d3d9.maxAvailableMemory=2048

d3d9.presentInterval=0

The first line corresponds to the texture memory mentioned earlier. DXVK installs won't recognise more than that and having it higher can cause crashes apparently. The second line... No idea what it does but it was mentioned in several guides and reddit posts.

I don't know if the newer versions of DXVK allow fullscreen mode as the older ones did not, but I play in borderless mode anyway which works.

I also delete my thumbnails folder every so often.

I hope this helps someone, this silly old game can be cantankerous but I was determined to get it running again!

Unpopular opinion mayhaps, but I always thought that the actual reason Tank crashed Johnny's birthday party wasn't just so he could antagonize him, but that it had more to do with Ripp than with Johnny.

Because Ripp has friends and Tank doesn't, because Ripp can sneak out, and hang out with these friends and go to parties and Tank can't. Because in his mind he has a strict code of what he's allowed to do and what he's not allowed, and shouldn't absolutely do, as it is implied in the gba game

This is a direct result of Buzz's militaristic education, of course, which consequently prompted Tank's desire to please his father and his fear to disappoint him.

However, even though he wants to please his father, I believe that he actually doesn't enjoy nor does he look forward to all the training that Buzz's makes him go through. No, I rather think he secretly hates it (though he will never admit it out loud, at least a young Tank, that's it) and that he's already aware of the fact that that he didn't had a normal childhood and isn't having a normal adolescence either.

So he resents Ripp and he's jealous of him because he's able to break the rules, not only that; he's determined to break them. And Tank isn't; he probably feels like he's in too deep already.

So yeah, my headcanon is that he crashed the party to fetch Ripp and take him home with him. Because if he doesn't get to have fun his brother shouldn't either. He also wants to fight Johnny, of course, but like I said I don't think fighting him was his main motivation here

its been a little while since i last posted or played sims (well just a couple of months, but for me that's a lot 😆). i've been super addicted to another game, crusader kings 3, and its pretty much all i've been doing with my evenings for the last two months (well, that and wedding planning - its getting close now eeeek). crusader kings 3 is an amaaaazing game, but the sims itch is starting to creep back in now.

i actually opened my game for the first time again this evening. i was tempted to get stuck straight back in to my sul sul legacy, but tbh the desire to finally put the effort into setting up a medieval save is proving too much to ignore 😅 i know I'll be so happy when I've done it, but still... its so intimidating.

I got a copy of Sims 2 Legacy Collection 🥳

I loaded it and it works smoothly, UI in live mode is too small for my liking though. As I understand it doesn't properly scale on 1080p resolution, I have a 1200p though, because my monitor is 16:10, but I guess I also have an issue with UI scaling. UI in CAS is very big, so the problem is with live mode and build/buy mode

Now that I have the game I want to play it ☺️ Does this mean I will become ts4/ts3/ts2 simblr? 😅 🙈

Maybe there's something wrong with me, but I can't play without a challenge 🙈 So I want to play a small non legacy challenge with almost 100% vanilla game. And if I will have fun with it I plan on adding mods and cc to make game more cartoony and bug free and maybe even play a legacy 🫣

I can't seem to find an interesting non legacy challenge though. I am totally out of the loop when it comes to Sims 2. I don't even remember last time I played it. I started playing Sims 3 when it came out in 2009 and I assume that's when I stopped playing Sims 2, but I don't really remember 🤔

If you know of any interesting (but not too hard) non legacy challenges in Sims 2, please, let me know 👀
